Editor’s Note If you have ever been in love, you can probably recall the moment when you knew you loved — or were starting to fall in love with — your partner. For me, that defining moment happened 11 years ago on Valentine’s Day, and even though I am hardly a romantic, a February doesn’t pass without some serious nostalgia for the early days of my relationship with my thenboyfriend, now-husband, Nate.
Every time I recall that moment in my mind, I picture my dress and Nate’s tie, I hear the song that we danced to — “New Coat of Paint” by Tom Waits — and I feel the magic and excitement that swept over me as we paused, mid-song, to confess our love to one another. As gratifying as it is to reminisce about those magical romantic moments, nostalgia can be a slippery slope, a reminder of an irretrievable time and place. This is especially true when our relationships fall into a rut — when our sense of possibility and wonder is consumed by the reality of day-to-day life. realproducersmag.com
That present-day reality, be it in your marriage or in your career, may not seem as dreamy as it was years ago, but rather than dwelling on this faulty comparison, I’ve learned to temper my expectations. I’ve also learned to take responsibility for my rut-making: If my day-to-day reality is devoid of romance and excitement — if there’s no spark or spontaneity — then it’s time for a dress and a tie and a “new coat of paint.” We can’t ever relive those special defining moments of the past, but as Tom Waits reminds us, we can create new ones: “Here amidst the shuffle of an overflowing day Our love needs a transfusion, let’s shoot it full of wine Fishin’ for a good time starts with throwin’ in your line.” As you read the defining moments in this month’s stories — and reflect upon your own personal and professional milestones — I hope you find your new coat of paint and reignite the romance and excitement of yesteryear. NAGY-STREET consistently committed to clients
REALTOR® and Associate Broker Kim Nagy-Street has 27 years of real estate experience. However, even if she didn’t know it at the time, her ties to the industry — and love for homes — span back to her childhood, and all the time she spent observing, learning and helping as her parents, Gerald and Loretta Nagy, bought, sold, renovated and rented homes.

pursue a career in real estate,” Kim said. “He gave me the confidence and push I needed — while I was making great money, I was intrigued by the limitless potential of real estate and knew I wanted something long-term.” When Kim entered the industry at the age of 22, she became frustrated by how difficult it was to create opportunities with buyers and sellers. “Who wants to trust the largest purchase or sale of their life with a new young agent?” she said. Despite her 20 • February 2021
initial challenges, Kim pressed on and remained determined to succeed. She worked hard to generate opportunities and earn clients’ trust … and, slowly but surely, the sales started to roll in. Soon after, Kim’s career took off. In 1997, Kim reached $5 million in sales. By 2010, she had excelled to $15 million, then, a few years later, to $30 million. In 2017, she hit $40 million, and she’s been producing at that level ever since, resulting in a career volume of $600 million. Kim has been with KW Domain for @realproducers
— most become friends for life,” she said. “Nothing is more exciting than to see my clients’ lives grow and change throughout the years.” As owner and team leader of the Kim Nagy Group, Kim is most passionate about helping others reach their fullest potential and overcome limiting beliefs. A few years ago, Kim’s sister, Nicole Nagy, left her successful nursing career to join the Kim Nagy Group at KW Domain and follow in her older sister’s footsteps. Kim’s “small and mighty team” of six — Lead Buyer’s Agent Nicole; Buyer’s Agents Stacy Walden Eberhardt, Caitlin Winston and Kathryn Paulon; Director of Sales Stacy Hauck-Moore; and Social Media Specialist Anna Leonard — are united in their dedication to their clients and to one another. “We are truly a group that wants everyone to win, and we always build each other up,” Kim said. The Kim Nagy Group is on track to sell over $50 million this year and is always hiring real estate professionals based on their cultural fit. Kim grew up in Dearborn, where her life was fairly normal until she lost her mother to cancer. This tragedy thrust Kim — who was only 16 — into immediate adulthood, leaving her to raise and care for her 6-year-old sister and support her father as well. “I had no choice — I was doing the cooking, the laundry … but most of all, I was there taking care of my baby sister, best friend and now an agent on my team.”
six years, and her office ranks #1 in MLS for volume. More important than her sales are the relationships Kim builds and the referrals she and her team earn every day. Kim feels most rewarded when she hands keys to a buyer or when she helps a seller move on to their next chapter in life. “My clients are, by far, the favorite part of real estate realproducersmag.com
Kim has been married to her husband, Doug Street, for over 25 years. Doug recently retired from 30+ years as co-owner of an automotive design and engineering company. Like Kim, Doug — who has been a licensed builder since the early ‘90s — has a passion for designing, building and renovating homes. He is now focused on a second career in residential investment properties where he works closely with Kim. “A top agent and a hands-on builder make for a good team,” Doug said.
Kim and Doug have renovated many homes over the years, and they recently moved into a new construction home that they designed and built. In addition, Doug and Kim own several rental properties and will be breaking ground early next year on a 10-unit apartment building near downtown Royal Oak. Their hard work and success have afforded them the opportunity to enjoy their love of domestic and international travel, including recent trips to Eastern Europe, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia. They also enjoy golfing, cooking and entertaining at their new home. “We really enjoy our Royal Oak neighborhood — our great neighbors have kept us on the same street for 27 years now,” Kim said. Kim reads a lot of self-help books, but her favorite genre is mystery, especially anything by Patricia Cornwell. Through her real estate business, as well as in her personal life, Kim also actively supports many local charities. Kim is very grateful for the guidance and support she has received from family, friends and the many real estate professionals she has worked alongside throughout her career, including Larry Campbell, her first broker at Century 21. “I always admired Larry’s positive drive and success,” she said. Because Kim knows that building a client base — or any kind of relationship — requires daily work and attention, she drives her business with consistency. More importantly, she has built — and sustained — a fulfilling real estate career by remaining focused on what matters the most. “Always do the right thing, even when no one is looking — it doesn’t pay to always win at the cost of others,” she said. “Put your clients’ interests first, and treat them like family. ... that’s how success happens.

Lombardo HOMES
BUILDING A FAMILY OF HOMES FOR EVERY STAGE OF LIFE evaluate a family’s circumstances to account for future life changes.
In the early 1960s, Cosimo Lombardo sold his electronics company in Canada and moved to Michigan so he could establish a building company to support his wife, Antoinette, and future family. Today, his legacy and company — Lombardo Homes — lives on through his oldest son and owner, Anthony Lombardo, daughters, Anna Lisa and Cathy Lombardo, and youngest son, Sebastian Lombardo.
$500,000, we have a home perfect for a first-time homebuyer, a customer who’s on their second or third move-up home, or an empty nester looking to downsize into a condominium.” Additionally, through Lombardo Apartment Communities, the company serves clients who prefer apartment living or aren’t quite ready to purchase their first home, as well as homeowners who have to move out of their existing homes before their new build is complete.
“Lombardo Homes takes the time to truly understand how you live in your home,” Melissa said. “Lombardo Homes knows they’ve done their job right when our customers are even more satisfied with their new home one year from closing than they were on the day they moved in.”
What started over 60 years ago as a company specializing in attached and courtyard condominiums now builds apartments, single-family homes, condominiums and luxury custom homes that span all of southeast Michigan, as well as a range of prices. “Lombardo Companies offers homes for every stage of life — we’re one of the few homebuilders who do that,” said Vice President of Marketing Melissa Cervin, who’s been with the company for nine years. “With new single-family homes and condominiums ranging from the $170’s to over
Lombardo clients — who have the option of building on their own lot or in a Lombardo Homes community — enjoy high-quality, new construction homes as a result of the company’s trademarked process: The Discovery Event by Lombardo Homes. Through this collaborative, home-discovery process, the Lombardo team closely works with homebuyers to identify their unique needs and build a home that not only complements their lifestyle but also continues to serve their needs as their family continues to grow. By working with the client to understand their family size, dynamic and lifestyle, Lombardo Homes can recommend floor plans to fit a family’s needs, explore options to maximize space and functionality throughout a home, and even
From the sales and construction teams — who Melissa describes as the “superstars on the front lines” — to the main office personnel, Lombardo’s approximately 150 employees work to make a customer’s dream home a reality. “Lombardo Homes has a great company culture — it’s the perfect balance of family-owned business infused with corporate culture best practices,” Melissa said. “The Lombardo family is a part of the day-to-day business and can be found bustling around the office just like the rest of our team members.”

Customer experience is also a cornerstone of Lombardo’s company culture, as well as the driving force of many of their internal decisions. By surveying each homeowner four times throughout their build experience, sharing the results in real-time with all employees and having the management team review the feedback on a weekly basis, Lombardo strives to deliver the best possible experiences to their customers. As a result of their stellar customer service and high-quality craftsmanship, Lombardo consistently ranks among the top 100 builders in the nation according to Builder Magazine. The company’s commitment to their customers is enhanced by their ongoing support of the community and local charities. Lombardo has participated in several St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraisers, in which many team members shave their heads to raise money for a cure for childhood cancer. Additionally, the company has supported the Make-AWish Foundation — a portion of one of their donations funded a “Frozen”themed bedroom makeover for one lucky little girl. Lombardo Homes also donated the land for Lombardo Park in Shelby Township, contributed to the completion of the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township, and deeded the land for and financially contributed to the Michigan War Dog Memorial in Lyon Township. Lombardo even sponsors several community events, such as fireworks, farmers’ markets, concerts in the park and Christmas tree-lighting ceremonies. Lombardo has a lot of love for the real estate community, and it shows through their incentives and relationship building. One major incentive is the company’s tiered bonus system that financially rewards real estate agents — above and beyond commission — based on the number of Lombardo homes that they sell in a given year. “We are real estate agent friendly!” Melissa said. “We understand how vital real estate agents are to our day-to-day business and realproducersmag.com
welcome them into our sales centers anytime.” From presentations at office meetings to hosting agent meetings at their model homes to one-on-one time with agents over coffee or lunch, Lombardo welcomes the opportunity to get to know local real estate agents and build relationships with them. “We’ve partnered with Real Producers because we know they are integral to the real estate community, thus giving us a platform where we can continue to network and expand our real estate relationships,” Melissa said. “We enjoy the events we’re able to attend as a Real Producers Preferred Partner, but we never turn down an opportunity to host an event or to meet and greet the real estate professionals who are so vital to our business.” As a forward-looking company, Lombardo continually evaluates and updates its floor plan lineup, as well as their available options, so that they meet homebuyers’ needs and wants. Lombardo recently added interactive floor plans, an exterior color tool and an interior room visualizer to enhance the overall build process, allowing customers to see their designs and color selections on digital renderings. “We’re proud of our portfolio and our ability to offer a wide range of homes, and we intend to continue to diversify our portfolio as time goes on,” Melissa said. “We are always evaluating land opportunities across southeast Michigan so we can find those perfect locations for new Lombardo Homes communities in the township and school district our customers desire — being able to build what people want where they want is crucial to us … and to our customers.” To learn more about Lombardo Homes, visit lombardohomes.com.

BARB
Zarantonello THE ART OF REAL ESTATE
rising star By Robbyn Moore Photos by Jessica Laine Photography Photos taken at Cranbrook Custom Homes, The Heights in Rochester
28 • February 2021
@realproducers
Barb Zarantonello’s journey to real estate success has been filled with a broad range of life experiences. Her years of working as an artist and personal trainer were the catalysts to becoming a one-ofa-kind agent to her clients. Her positive approach to life and the desire to make the most of every day were key factors that led her to becoming a rising star. As a Canadian native, Barb grew up in Oshawa, Ontario. After college, she worked in the Toronto area as an artist doing technical illustrations and house portraits. In 1994, Barb moved her art business to Michigan, where she would hand-deliver flyers to real estate offices, hoping to generate interest in her house portrait creations. “Over the years, I’ve been hired to draw hundreds of homes,” Barb said. “A lot of my work has been for real estate agents or builders. At the time, it never occurred to me that 23 years later, I would be going to those same offices as an agent myself.” In addition to her illustration work, Barb has been a personal trainer for 22 years. She still trains a few of her early-morning clients; however, four year ago, Barb felt it was time for a change. “I’ve always enjoyed being self-employed, and I thrive when I’m working one-on-one with clients,” Barb explained. “So when I finally decided to take the plunge into real estate, it immediately felt like home!” For Barb, what made real estate so attractive was the opportunity to help others navigate through a major life event. “Each transaction brings new excitement and energy, and I enjoy the relationship that’s formed in the process,” she said. “I am passionate about everything I do, and with real estate, I definitely feel I’m in the right place.” Having a design and photography background has been a great advantage to Barb, especially when she’s helping her sellers prepare and stage their home. “It’s important to detail each home before listing it, so it shows at its absolute best,” she said. “For buyers, it’s equally rewarding when I’m helping them search for a new home. A true relationship is built during the house-hunting process. Nothing’s better than seeing my clients smile when they step into a home they love or handing them the keys at the closing table.”

Growing up, Barb learned the importance of having a strong work ethic from her parents, and like her parents, she has always given 100% in everything she does. “My parents were both very hardworking,” Barb explained. “My mother in particular was a bundle of energy – I definitely inherited that from her.” Since launching her real estate career and joining Real Living Kee Realty four years ago, Barb has maintained a consistent five-star rating among her clients and earned top sales and awards within the industry. She has been recognized by Real Living Kee Realty as “2017 Rookie of the Year” and by Real Living Real Estate as “2018 National Rising Star.” She also earned the Real Living Real Estate “2020 Diamond Medallion” sales award. Barb has a career volume of over $24 million and is an active member of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®. 30 • February 2021
Without hesitation, Barb said her favorite part of her work day is client interaction. “It’s wonderful meeting so many different types of people,” she said. “We start as strangers, then clients and soon, we become friends. As a real estate agent, it’s an honor to be a part of one of the biggest financial transactions of my clients’ lives.” Coming from a business that was very structured and scheduled, Barb initially found the unpredictability of the real estate world to be a bit of a challenge. “I still try to build structure into my day, but I quickly adapted to — and now really enjoy — the ups and downs and crazy unknowns that come with each day,” she said. In her free time, Barb enjoys traveling, gardening and gathering with friends; however, her artwork is still a big part of her life. “Most of my commissions are for house portraits and pet portraits,” she said. Additionally, with each real estate closing, Barb makes a donation to Big Family of Michigan, a nonprofit organization that supports and serves the needs of foster children as well as abused and institutionalized children.
Barb and her husband Bob have a blended family with five children — Danielle, Jeff, Joey, Jordan and Alexandra — ranging in ages 23-31. Barb is also a proud military mom. Her son Jeff is a Marine veteran who served three tours in Afghanistan from 2009-2013. It’s in Barb’s DNA to do her personal best in both her professional and personal life. Having integrity, being loyal and working hard to achieve her goals are just a few of her many strengths that have led her to a happy and content life. “I would not be able to feel successful if I didn’t put in my best effort,” she shared. “I want to be remembered as a person who went above and beyond for others. The ultimate goal for me is to provide each client with impeccable service, excellent communications and an overall great experience.”

EMILY
COLVIN
SERVING AGENTS AT AN ALL-STAR LEVEL behind-the-scenes all-star
How would you describe your job in one word?
What is one thing about you that others might find surprising or interesting?
Position/Title: Market Center Administrator Office/Company: Keller Williams Paint Creek
Fulfilling
and Somerset
Why do you think you excel at your job?
Professionally: Within my 15 years with KW, I was also a director of operations for a team, and we went from $0 to $30 million within two years. Personally: My husband and I, along with some friends from high school, went to Paris last year for the World Cup — we are big soccer fans.
How long have you been working with the person who nominated you? One year How long have you been working in the real estate industry? Fifteen years What did you do before you began working in your current position?
I have worked for KW for 15 years. Before taking this position, I was working for Keller Williams International supporting market center administrators across the country.
I truly care about my agents’ businesses. I want them to succeed at the highest level. I know that I can support their success by ensuring that the brokerage’s back end is running smoothly, that agents are getting paid quickly, and that they know how to utilize and implement our technology to make their lives easier. My goal is to help them streamline their business operations.
What does your typical workday look like?
I work for the brokerage, and my job is similar to that of a director of operations for a team. I handle all the operations for the brokerage. On a daily basis, I process closings, pay out commission checks and conduct one-on-ones with agents to see how we can support and grow their business. I dive into the office financials on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to make sure our office is profitable. I take this practice and share it with our agents, which provides them a system for tracking their profitability. I also help our agents integrate Keller Williams’ new technology platform into their business. With new systems and technology comes training, so I coordinate and develop training calendars to support our agents’ businesses. Of course, I definitely do not do this all alone — I have an amazing team.
36 • February 2021
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
When our agents are stuck on something, and I can see it from another angle, it’s rewarding to help move them forward and reach their goals. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
We have 218 agents, and everyone runs their business and communicates differently. I would say the most challenging aspect of my job is making sure that my team and I are using the best form of communication for each of our agents.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
I love soccer. Pre-COVID, I was playing on three soccer teams — I am patiently waiting for it to open back up. I am married with two boys, and we recently started kayaking on the weekends. How do you feel about being nominated as a Behind-the-Scenes All-Star?
I feel honored and grateful to be working with some amazing people. Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself, your job or the person who nominated you?
I believe Tom and I work well together because we lead in very similar ways. He cares about our agents and their businesses as much as I do — we both know when our agents succeed, everyone succeeds.
@realproducers
“Emily Colvin is the engine that runs our machine here at Keller Williams Paint Creek and Somerset,” Tom Delia said. “Since she joined the office three years ago, the Market Center has accomplished feats that our office has never seen in our history — we continue to break production records month after month, and we have been able to substantially grow our office.” According to Tom, these accomplishments have been made possible by Emily’s ability to serve their agents at an “all-star level” and create an environment that attracts “extremely talented” professionals. Tom says that Emily is a true “servant leader” who is always willing to take time out of her extremely busy schedule to assist others in any way she can. “No matter the circumstance or no matter the difficulty of the situation, Emily is always coming from
a contribution mindset and willing to work through any and all obstacles to ensure that our agents are provided with the best level of service imaginable,” Tom said. “In working in real estate for the past five years, I have had the pleasure to work and partner with hundreds of people, and I can truly say that I have not partnered with anyone with the level of professionalism and care that Emily exhibits daily,” he said. “We are extremely blessed to have Emily running our organization, and she deserves to have every recognition possible for being who she is!” Do you work with someone who truly makes a difference in the industry, in your business or at your office? Email Terra Csotty at terra. csotty@realproducersmag.com to nominate them to be featured as a Behind-the-Scenes All-Star in an upcoming issue.

Tonya Newberry AN ALL-AROUND REAL ESTATE CHAMPION
agent spotlight By Robbyn Moore Photos by Stylish Detroit Photos taken at Toll Brothers at Montcaret in Northville
Tonya Newberry’s passion points are client service, building lasting relationships and giving back to those in need. Her unwavering commitment to her clients is a hallmark in her everyday work, and her ability to foster relationships with other real estate agents is unparalleled. Tonya’s approach to business is met with a fierce determination — an attribute she gained from years as an elite and collegiate gymnast — and an advocacy for helping others. 40 • February 2021
Tonya’s tenacity to tackle challenges began at a young age, where she was disciplined in both her academic and gymnastic careers. At the age of 14, she was The Ohio State University all-around champion and competed on the elite level for the Junior Olympics. After a back injury left her partially paralyzed, she was told she could never do gymnastics again. However,
it was Tonya’s willpower that pushed her adversity aside and found strength to not only recover but also thrive. “I pushed through therapy and decided I was not going to give up,” she recalled. “I had a desire to be better and stronger.” Tonya’s dreams were realized when she received a full-ride athletic scholarship to The University of New Mexico, where she graduated with @realproducers

honors and a double major in marketing and international management. After college, Tonya’s ambitious personality landed her a coveted position at Electronic Data Systems Corporation, working as a computer programmer and system engineer. “I went through an intense training program and then went on to work 50+ realproducersmag.com
hours a week as well as coaching gymnastics in the evenings and weekends,” Tonya said. “For 10 years, I gave 110% — it’s made me who I am today.” Tonya started her real estate career when her husband Christian, who is a lender, was getting his real estate license. “Since we were renovating and building homes at the time, I decided to get my real estate license as well,” Tonya said. “With my enthusiasm for building and renovating, along with
my craving for more person-to-person interaction, my decision to make a career in real estate was a natural transition for me.” Since becoming a licensed real estate agent in 2000, Tonya has twice been named REALTOR® of the Year, noted in the top 1% of REALTORS® in the U.S., honored as an Hour Detroit Real Oakland County Real Producers • 41
Estate All-Star, earned a Real Estate One President’s Circle of Excellence and placed in the top 10 for Max Broock’s Birmingham office of 250 agents. Tonya has been with Max Broock in Birmingham since 2007 and a top-producing agent for over 20 years. To date, she has sold more than 600 units and has a personal career volume of over $125 million — $20 million of which was generated last year. In addition to Tonya’s top-producing status, she has embraced her passion to give back to the community and organizations that need support. “I feel it’s important to serve others whenever and however it’s needed,” Tonya said. “The happiness in my life and success in my career are found in my ability to help others.” Organizations that Tonya supports include Special Olympics Michigan, Soldiers’ Angels, The Rainbow Connection, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Heart Association, Pies for Charity, Judson Center and Front Line Appreciation Group Metro Detroit. Tonya, Christian and their four children — Justin, Arya, Paris and Skye — are all “foodies” and enjoy trying new restaurants and new recipes at home. They are travel enthusiasts and find happiness with a trip “up north” or down to the Florida Keys. Additionally, they have a Yorkie named Buster, who is 12 years old and has the biggest personality in the family. Real estate has given Tonya the opportunity to set her own goals and grow her own business. “My growth — along with helping others buy, sell, build or renovate — is the most rewarding aspect of what I do,” she shared. Tonya’s years of competitive gymnastics easily translate to her work as a real estate professional: She’s a great teammate, ensuring her fellow agents are in lockstep throughout the transaction, and a driven sales agent who works hard to score the perfect house for her clients. “I’m a dealmaker and a peacemaker,” Tonya said. “Having integrity and being honest goes a long way. I can maintain a good rapport with other agents while still keeping my client’s best interest top of mind.” With the ability to be her own coach, Tonya is always looking for ways to grow. She creates and exceeds her own goals and finds solutions to overcome challenges. Her sheer will of determination and strong mindset makes her an all-around champion in life and real estate. 42 • February 2021

CRAIG WARD A T R U E C OAC H O F R E A L E S TAT E
44 • February 2021
@realproducers
Seven years ago, Craig A. Ward entered the real estate world and quickly rose to the top with his game-winning mindset and allegiance to coaching and mentoring. He is a REALTOR®, real estate coach and business partner at TRUE Realty. Craig, who is also known as Wardo, has dedicated over 25 years of his life to coaching hockey at all levels and developing young players into successful athletes. His determination to be successful on the ice easily transferred to his drive off the ice as a true leader within the real estate industry.
Craig was influenced by his high school hockey coach Skip Howey, who taught him the importance of goal-setting, self-discipline and dedication to his work. “My high school hockey coach also ran a multimillion-dollar company,” Craig explained. “His work ethic and direction to success was a great example for young athletes to emulate. He would often say how important it was to learn something new every single day, and that has stayed with me over the years – it gave me the tools to be open-minded in all areas of my life.” Craig is a majority partner in the company. He oversees the controller and nine agents, and manages all daily business activities. “I’m convinced coaching from a young age gave me the experience to build solid teams and the ability to motivate them to be successful,” Craig said. “Whether I’m coaching a hockey team, building up a real estate team or listening to a client, I am always looking for ways to bring out the best results.” Optimism is one of the hallmarks to Craig’s business approach. “I believe there is a solution for everything,” he said. “You have to adapt to every situation, good or bad, because there is a solution for everything — you just have to be willing to look for it. Find your options, make a choice and then commit to it.” Before entering the real estate industry, Craig worked for Jeep and Cadillac Brand teams as well as owning his own marketing company where he consulted for sports teams. “I had the passion for real estate, but, more importantly, I was ready to start helping people fulfill their dreams,” Craig shared. “In my role as a real estate coach and business partner, I

am truly listening to the needs of my clients and my teams, and I am always looking to provide solutions.” Craig’s experience with kids, parents and other coaches made him a natural fit to be a team leader in real estate. “Our value proposition is that we are the coaches of real estate,” Craig said. “We believe in buying or selling it right. We offer our expertise and how to maximize our clients’ dollars. We are a true team, and all our agents strive to be their very best.” Craig assists his team with the right tools necessary to succeed. His relentless approach to facing challenges is unwavering, even amidst changes in the economy and technology. “The biggest challenge in our business is communication,” he said. “There are so many platforms for buyers and sellers to gather information — much of which is misinformation. Therefore, it is crucial to build strong, trusting relationships where we can earn the respect from our clients and be a credible source of information.” Craig’s game plan for his agents — and ultimately their clients — is to see them succeed. “There is nothing more rewarding than leaving a closing table and seeing our clients smiling all the way to their car.” “I believe, to be a leader in this business, you need to listen and be available for your clients and your teams,” Craig advised. “This is a great business with a lot of freedom to grow; however, from a financial standpoint, it is important to analyze everything you do and keep your overhead low.”
46 • February 2021
Craig is a self-proclaimed “behind-the-scenes guy,” who measures success by making others happy and helping people reach their goals. When Craig is not at the rink or guiding his sales team, he can be found spending quality time with his family. It’s no surprise that his crew at home are all sports enthusiasts. Together, with his wife, Michelle, and their three kids — Blake, Macy and
Hailey — they enjoy hockey, golf, softball and baseball. “Whether I’m on the ice or in the office, stress is not an option,” Craig shared. “There is a solution for everything — you just have to find the right solution. Life is short. Enjoy it.”

FENG SHUI for Remote Workspaces
home matters By Shauna Osborne
One of the many lessons 2020 delivered was that far more people can do their jobs from home than previously thought. Coffee in hand, makeshift “offices” set up in spare bedrooms, dens, and garages, Zoom-ready style from the waist up…we made it happen. And though some employees have returned to their office workspaces by now, nearly a year in, many continue to work remotely and will do so for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, it’s useful to turn attention to refining our evolving workspaces for maximum productivity and a harmonious mentality, applying the principles of feng shui. 50 • February 2021
Feng shui is the “practice of arranging the pieces in living spaces in order to create balance with the natural world.” As the distinct concepts of “living spaces” and “working spaces” have become blurred over the last year, our home’s natural boundaries have been compromised, which, according to the tenets of feng shui, results in a lack of productivity. Bringing the home workspace into alignment promises to bring prosperous energy, along with increased balance, focus, and inspiration. So, where to begin? With the fundamental requirements for an industrious workspace: a flat surface (generally, a desk, counter, or table) with minimal visible distractions. First, assess the distractions in the work environment, positioning yourself facing a mentally nondisruptive space — having, for example, dirty dishes, noisy children, or piles of laundry in your field of vision is overly distracting. Avoid facing a wall, if possible, as this represents facing obstacles in feng shui; similarly, avoid sitting directly in line with a door, which puts you in the path of any negative energy traveling into the room, and position your desk away from the door but mostly facing it, which is referred to as a “commanding position” in feng shui. This set-up signifies being open to receiving the visitors / business / positive energy entering the room rather than turning your back to it. Designate one area in the home as the space where work happens, rather than moving a laptop from one place to another, avoiding spaces our bodies associate with rest or relaxation (sofas and beds), which makes us more prone to drowse while working and / or less disposed to mentally release work stress at the end of the day. Incorporate natural light as much as possible. The work surface itself should be as clear and tidy as possible, with only necessities that add to your sense of ease, peace, and productivity, as feng shui suggests that a cluttered, messy workspace can impede creativity, blocking the flow of positive energy and prosperity into your room. A pen and paper, a glass of water, an air-purifying houseplant, and / or a family photo are all examples of positive additions to your work surface. Feng shui teaches that energy flows where our attention goes, so utilize these guiding principles to manifest the energy you desire for your home workspace. @realproducers

WABEEK CLUB ADDING LIFE INTO THE COUNTRY CLUB LIFESTYLE
The new owners at Wabeek Club have poured more than $7 million into renovations throughout their establishment, including the pool, banquet hall, dining room, fitness area and locker rooms. With a contemporary modern feel that’s comparable to an experience in Miami or LA — right in the heart of Oakland County — the club is taking the country out of country club and adding life into lifestyle. While the clean, new look attracts young professionals and families, the 180-acre golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye, have remained a timeless staple to the club’s legendary golf experience. “When we think back to the original 54 • February 2021
founders of Wabeek Club, it’s easy to understand the potential they envisioned when designing this pristine course,” Membership Director Laura Barrick said. “From rolling hills and towering trees, it’s a ‘Pure Michigan’ golf community at its finest.” The new investor group, led by Joe Barbat, envisioned and then created a warm, friendly environment where all club members could experience an elevated level of service at any touchpoint throughout the establishment. In 2019, a complete renovation to the 45,000-square-foot clubhouse added a modern twist to the original 1972 look and feel. The private event space can host intimate gatherings as
well as large groups up to 400 people with floorto-ceiling window views of the golf course and customizable menus. “Whether a member is looking for a casual lunch from the grill or an elegant, date night dinner, W Club spared no expense,” Laura shared. The impressive food and beverage service is available throughout its entire location, offering healthy menu choices during all seasons. “Coming later this winter, we will launch a new five-star restaurant called Tribu, with an executive chef who is a culinary master,” Laura said. The resort-like pool offers members a getaway feeling that rivals any luxury vacation without the hassle of leaving the neighborhood. Other additions include a year-round golf experience with two state-of-the-art TrackMan golf simulators and @realproducers
programs, and offer families endless opportunities to play basketball, volleyball and tennis. The 2,500-squarefoot fire-pit lounge area is available for added fun to any social occasion.
a new fleet of golf carts featuring GPS technology. “W Club has maintained its legendary pro-level greens that are challenging for all skill levels from beginner to advanced,” Laura said. “We’ve also invested in our staff of professionals who are PGA certified, courteous, knowledgeable and family-friendly.” The club offers weekly men’s and women’s leagues as well as junior golf camps and clinics. With a focus on healthy living, W Club has spa-centric locker rooms with a steam room and sauna, and fitness programs that include private training and group classes. Moreover, their multipurpose sports court and turf can host minicamps, social events and youth realproducersmag.com
“Over the years, W Club went from a member-owned club to a privatelyowned club,” Laura explained. “The recent change in management allowed us to update the space while still maintaining the integrity of the club that the original founders had envisioned when they designed the pristine course.” W Club hopes to become a top 10-rated private golf course in Michigan and further expand its youth programs, including adding a summer camp program. “We are confident we will continue to elevate ourselves as the premier club in the area and expand our membership to increase capacities for both memberships and events,” Laura said.
“Our club is the perfect setting for any networking opportunity as our members are all business owners, successful professionals and leaders in the community,” Laura shared. “W Club provides a social atmosphere that mixes a multidemographic group of likeminded and affluent individuals. We are very proud of this melting pot creation within our community of members.” W Club also offers corporate memberships as well as event space for small-to-large gatherings or open house events. Since 2019, the club has seen a significant growth in their membership, with golf membership at almost capacity and a tentative waitlist for the 2021 season. “There is something for everyone in the family here,” Laura said. “With all the activities we offer to our members, W Club is more than just a golf course — it’s a lifestyle.” For more information about Wabeek Club, call 248-855-0700 or visit wabeekcc.com.
