NOTES

How many times have you said you are married to your work? In this month’s issue, we celebrate couples in real estate who have taken that to a literal level. According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 1.4 million businesses in the U.S. are run by a husband-and-wife team. With this number steadily rising, it’s clear that modern couples are finding ways to work together and have an incredibly fulfilling career and marriage.

For us, we strive to find an overall balance between our work and personal lives. In our tech-centered world, this can be a major juggling act and sometimes it doesn’t fall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. As a result, flexibility and teamwork is critical to our success. We also leverage each other’s unique strengths. For example, one of us is very grounding, and one of us is socially gifted, which benefits our business and meets our agreed-upon goals. Above all, having respect for each other and putting our marriage first is the key to making it all work! Thank you to everyone who came to last month’s CASINO NIGHT at The Community House in Birmingham. It was an evening of food, drinks, mingling and casino games. couples in real estate

“ ”

There isn’t anyone I would trust more as a life and business partner.

Q&A with Levan Wood & Erica Bogedin What advice do you have for a couple looking to go into business together?

LEVAN WOOD & ERICA BOGEDIN Written By: Jane K. Asher, Ph.D Photo Credit: Eugen Muntean Photos taken at Toll Brothers Ridgeview of Novi

Couple: Levan Wood & Erica Bogedin Years Together (in Life): 2 Years Together (in Real Estate): 2 Business: RE/MAX Eclipse Career Volume as a Couple: $64 million Crossing Paths and Coupling Up

Levan and Erica met at a broker open house in Royal Oak, but there wasn’t much of an initial spark. They continued to bump into each other at networking events and holiday parties, eventually exchanged contact information and began texting each other on a semi-regular basis. Then, in the evening on Christmas, Erica happened to be passing by Levan’s house, so he invited her and her younger brother over to his house. Erica accepted his invitation, and that night — amidst the glow of the holiday — Levan and Erica discovered a magical connection that sparked their romance. “The rest is 14 • February 2020

history, and we’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since that night,” Erica said. A Fantastic Fit in Business and in Life

After a few months of dating, it was clear to both of them that Erica would be a great fit at RE/MAX Eclipse and that the two of them would thrive together in real estate. “We have a similar work ethic and almost always agree on what actions to take in real estate deals,” Levan said. “The only logical move was to work together — that has proven true, and Erica’s contributions have been invaluable.” In 2017, Levan was named RE/MAX Broker Owner of the Year for Southeast Michigan, and from 2017-2019, both Erica and Levan have sold their way into the RE/MAX 100% Club. Their like-minded approach, in addition to Erica’s service-first mindset, has generated their success and growth as real estate partners. “Erica is the most loving and caring woman I have met,” he said. “There isn’t anyone I would trust more as a life and business partner.”

If you are thinking about it, go for it. You can’t imagine or foresee how the dynamics will work. Dive in! If it doesn’t work, make adjustments until it does or until you realize it’s not the right path — take action. What has been your most difficult challenge in business and/or in life? How did you overcome it?

There are two challenges that are in the same vein of thought: believing in ourselves enough to take on some big hairy goals and believing in others more than they believe in themselves. We don’t think we will ever be fully free of these challenges, but we certainly try to overcome them by regularly starting each day with a positive message either through reading or listening to something inspirational. Most days, we listen to a podcast or some sort of YouTube audio program as we drive around. We’re a conglomeration of our thoughts and feelings, so we make it a priority to only take in positive messages.

when needed — even if it’s just getting home to take care of our dog Barnaby when one of us is working late. Another secret, of course, is love. If things get a little hairy, it’s good to remember how much we love and respect each other — remembering that always seems to smooth things out.

During the summer season, our favorite thing to do is lazily float or slowly cruise around the lake on the pontoon with Barnaby. When the weather shifts and gets cooler, we love going to the arcade to play pinball, doing puzzles on our family room table, eating lots of pizza and occasionally going to the gym.

We both also enjoy going to networking events and self-development seminars together.

sion. We attend most events with our three girls and really enjoy the time we spend with all the great people in our community,” Amanda said.

couples in real estate Written By: Jane K. Asher, Ph.D

Q&A with Jeff & Amanda Kashat What advice do you have for a couple looking to go into business together?

JEFF & AMANDA

It’s not easy working together as a couple, but it’s very rewarding! You will have lots of ups and downs, but you have to learn to leave work at work. We try our best to maximize what we accomplish each day by splitting up our tasks. Also, communication is key. Teamwork makes the dream work! What has been your most difficult challenge in business and/or in life? How did you overcome it?

Our work schedule has been the most difficult for us. As parents to three young children, we have to work on opposite time schedules. What is your secret to working together?

K A S H AT

The secret to working together for us is easy: We have opposite personalities, so we complement each other well. Both of us try to be the best examples for our three little girls — there’s nobody better to trust and work with than your significant other.

Couple: Jeff & Amanda Kashat Years Together (in Life): 12 Years Together (in Real Estate): 3 Business: The Kashat Team, Keller Williams Showcase Career Volume as a Couple: $24 million

What is the most rewarding part of working together?

The most rewarding part is being able to spend time with each other — we get to have lunch dates together every day. Also, it’s rewarding that we can be there for each other when there is a problem. We always try to put each other in a better mood and motivate one another because, at the end of the day, we know everything we do is to better our family, and we get to help people with one of their biggest investments.

Love at First Date

Jeff and Amanda met through mutual friends who thought they would be a good match. As it turns out, their friends were right because Jeff and Amanda hit it off and instantly fell in love. On their first date, Jeff took Amanda out on his boat on Cass Lake and impressed Amanda with his wakeboarding skills. Amanda was also impressed with what a gentleman Jeff was. “He treated me like a princess,” Amanda said. “You know the saying, happy wife (or girlfriend), happy life!” Jeff remembers thinking that Amanda was really sweet — and cute — and knowing that she had a kind and honest heart. Amanda got pregnant six months after they got married, so their “partying days” were cut short, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. “Our kids — we now have three daughters who are nine, seven and four years old — have changed us and our lives,” Amanda said. “It’s pretty hectic in our house, but they are honestly such a blessing.” Jeff and Amanda’s daughters are also their biggest fans. “They are always telling people about us, and I’ve seen them hand out our cards to strangers at the grocery store — future Kashat team in the making,” Amanda said. We like to spend time with family and friends. We usually end up doing what the kids want: going to the movies, bowling, playing in the park, shopping, having playdates with friends or, on a rare occasion, just relaxing at home. Jeff loves to work on his Jeep when he is lucky enough to have some free time. Describe your ideal workday together.

Our ideal workday is usually from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Amanda, and 8 a.m. with their agent. At the time, Amanda was a stay-at-home mom, and Jeff was managing commercial real estate with his father. One day, Jeff, who was growing increasingly interested in residential real estate, went to visit their new friend and agent and ended up transferring his license and starting a business at Keller Williams Showcase. About a year later, Amanda received her license, and together, they founded The Kashat Team. For the past three years, The Kashat’s have mobilized their strong relationship to build meaningful relationships with their clients. “Our reputation means a lot to us — we like to build relationships with our clients that last a lifetime, and we get most of our business from referrals,” Jeff said. The Kashat Team is VA certified, and have been recognized as Real Estate All-Stars by Hour Magazine, in addition to being top producers and rising stars at their office. In 2019, the Kashat’s were awarded Sponsor of the Year by The West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission. “We are proud supporters of The West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commis-

to whenever the last appointment ends for Jeff. Throughout the day, we go to daily meetings or classes held by the office, and Jeff teaches a class on how to hold a successful open house. Then we check emails, review paperwork, make phone calls, work on social media and have a quick lunch where we chat and network with people. Honestly, each day is different depending on if we have listing appointments, showings or negotiations. Describe your ideal date night.

Our ideal date is usually going to a local restaurant. We like to sit at the bar and chat with people, and then we usually go see a movie. What are some things you both have in common in the industry?

We are both very honest. We also end up becoming close friends with a lot of our clients. What are some things that you do differently from one another? Jeff: I’m outgoing and like to talk. Amanda: I’m calm, laidback and love catering to clients.

What’s the one thing you admire most about your significant other? Jeff: I admire that Amanda is always motivating me

and knows how to calm me down when I’m having a stressful day. Amanda: I admire that Jeff always stops what he is doing to help other agents when they ask. www.realproducersmag.com • 19

Dawne and Mike both obtained their real estate licenses in 2000, after which Dawne began her career in real estate, and Mike worked as a property manager for Beztak Properties. Dawne suggested that they team up and work together, and in 2010, Mike decided to “retire” and join Dawne at Century 21 Town & Country. Initially, Mike thought he’d just assist with Dawne’s business, but he quickly found himself in a different situation than he anticipated. Mike retired from Beztak on a Friday, took Saturday off and held his first open house that Sunday. That weekend marked the start of their full-time collaboration, and Mike and Dawne have been partners in real estate ever since. They joined Century 21 Curran & Oberski in May of 2019. Sharing the Blessings of Their Success Throughout their careers at Century 21, Mike and Dawne have earned multiple Master Ruby Awards and Quality Service Awards. They were also recognized as Co-Optimists of the Year by the Royal Oak Optimist Club in 2005, and Mike received a City of Royal Oak Volunteer Recognition Award in 2018.

“Achieving Success by Helping Others”

Written By: Robbyn Moore

or more than 17 years, Nadia Mekled has been helping families find and build their dream homes. She has watched neighborhoods develop into communities where children can grow up along with the landscaping and has formed friendships to last a lifetime. Nadia is a Senior Sales Manager for Toll Brothers – a leading luxury home building company that started with two brothers and a single home. “When I drive through the communities that I’ve helped build, a sense of pride, accomplishment and pleasure comes over me,” explains Nadia. “I get so much joy in the journey of building a new home. And I’m always emotional on the day of closing. It really is a big deal in the lives of these families, and I’m a part of that every step of the way. Truly, it’s why I do what I do.”

26 • February 2020

Born and raised in Canada, Nadia received a double major in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Western Ontario. “I have always had a strong connection to people and helping others,” says Nadia who learned from her mother the importance of making an impact on others and following her heart. “My daughters, Amber and Sophia have also made me the best version of myself. They are true examples of courage, strength and bravery – together, we are the three musketeers.” Giving back is Nadia’s true passion, which aligns perfectly with Toll Brothers’ core set of values. This includes being the best, doing the right thing, taking care of each other, delighting the customer, creating value, and honoring the company’s history. “I truly believe in these values both personally and professionally,” says Nadia. Additionally, Toll Brothers is a huge supporter for cancer research and has an annual gala every year where they raise over $1 million to help fund research. “I can honestly say my proudest moments with the company are when I attend the annual cancer galas in Pennsylvania at the corporate headquarters. The vibe and feeling in the room are so emotional and inspiring.”

While Toll Brothers is a publicly-traded company, it has never lost its feeling of a family-owned business. It’s not uncommon for the CEO to send a message to an employee if they are sick or going through a difficult time in their life. “Taking care of each other is one of the company’s core values, and it makes a difference in our day-to-day work,” shares Nadia. Furthermore, when the housing market took a dive several years ago, the stability and strength of the company allowed for the opportunity to still move forward and concentrate on its clients. “During that time, our leaders focused on new ways to stay strong in the market, and we persevered through it all.” “Taking care of each other also goes beyond our internal teams,” says Nadia. “We value our REALTORS® and appreciate the partnerships we have with them. We will do whatever we can to support their needs. And we love rewarding our agents for any clients they bring our way.”

She’s also a huge fan of fashion and enjoys attending fashion shows, supporting local designers, and finding the perfect pair of shoes in the latest designs. Nadia is also involved with various charitable organizations such as the Covenant House, New Hope Center, Make a Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. “I want to be remembered for giving back to my community and having a good heart,” says Nadia. “I love connecting with people and helping them. Whether it’s finding a dream home, or helping at a local homeless shelter, it’s important to make connections with others – and when that happens, I truly feel successful.”

When Nadia is not working, she loves to spend time with her husband and visiting her daughters in Chicago or downtown Detroit. www.realproducersmag.com • 27

Roger and Gwen met in junior high school — their love blossomed in art class after Gwen stole Roger from her best friend Cindy. “The rest is history, and we’ve been together ever since,” Gwen said. “We are still friends with Cindy, too, by the way!” she added. From Teenage Sweethearts to Tenacious Team Leaders

an engineer, was working for a company that was bought out by another company. “They gave me a three-hour notice and a box, and just like that, I was out of a job,” Roger said. Fortunately, he already had his real estate license and some experience hosting open houses and setting up inspections for Gwen. “Then one day after I lost my job, Gwen invited me to the office, and I never left,” he said. “Soon, our business grew and that convinced her that I should stay...we are really the Yin and Yang in business.” Roger and Gwen’s greatest accomplishment in real estate is holding a number three seat for their brand in the region for both volume and units — and doing so with only three agents on their team. Roger and Gwen’s third agent, Marshall Ultch, joined The Integrity Team as a brand new agent in 2010. “After we worked with Marshall and his wife Lori to buy their first

home, Marshall joined our team, and the three of us never looked back,” Gwen said. “Marshall — a top producer in his own right — has a passion for real estate.” The Ripinski’s also view their success as a testament to their fantastic behind-the-scenes support team comprised of Executive Assistant, Amanda Halula, Closing Coordinator, Jennifer Green and Marketing Strategist, Darian Roseman. Gwen and Roger are very proud of their team and of the fantastic culture and cohesiveness that defines them. Every day — at home and at the office — Roger and Gwen look forward to being together and energizing one another. Q&A with Roger & Gwen Daubenmeyer What advice do you have for a couple looking to go into business together?

Be respectful. Leverage each other’s strengths. Maintain your independence. You have to work to keep the romance going or it can be a drag being with your business partner 24/7. What has been your most difficult challenge in business and/or in life? How did you overcome it?

Finding time to be a couple outside of real estate without the business interrupting. Keeping the romance going. It’s so hard to just be a couple. We still struggle with this, but taking a week’s vacation together every six months is helpful. What is your secret to working together?

Maintain your independence — you know what happened to “Bennifer,” right? Give each other space and grace. Have transparent conversations. Both

should be involved with the money — what comes in and what goes out. What is the most rewarding part of working together? Gwen: Being able to do things togeth-

er in off-hours or spontaneously. Roger: Having a real understanding of each other’s highs and lows, as well as the hours involved in this business. When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

We enjoy being able to coordinate our schedules for travel and activities. We immensely enjoy the lake, our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and vacations with family. Describe your ideal workday together.

We spend time in the morning having coffee with each other, looking out at the lake and planning our individual days. We have different roles on our team: Gwen works primarily with sellers, and Roger works primarily with buyers, so it’s easy to stay in our own lanes. When our paths cross, we take time to share wins and frustrations, offer advice *when asked* and lend an ear when needed. We try to have dinner together every day. Describe your ideal date night.

Our ideal date night is spent at home.

details. I’ll dream it, plan it, structure it, get bored and want to move on to the next thing. He will dig into the details and get it done. Roger: She’s structured, focused and goal-driven. I’m more relaxed and free-wheeling. What’s the one thing you admire most about your significant other? Gwen: His sense of humor. He makes

us laugh every day. He also perseveres with projects long after I’m over it and want to burn something down. Roger: She is the vision-caster, strategist and focused on the future. She is able to direct our clients with a clear path. Is there anything else you’d like to share about one another, your relationship or your business?

It really is the best of both worlds. We like to have fun — like all the time — but we really get stuff done, too...so it gets intense sometimes. Do you know those couples who have never had an argument? We are not that couple. LOL. We’re both opinionated, but we’ve learned how to have conversations and respect when the other has a valid point. We have our separate roles on our team but really support each other. No matter what happens, we have each other’s backs (and passwords and log-ins). www.realproducersmag.com • 33

When Charlie and Jessica first got into the business, they earned a top-producing new agent award, and throughout the years, they’ve received multiple production awards for sales volume and total units sold, in addition to being ranked within the top 5% of agents in Metro Detroit by Hour Detroit. Charlie and Jessica are excited for the future of their business and are extremely grateful for the love and support of their family, friends and clients. “We know that 2020 is going to be our best year yet, and we can’t wait to celebrate with the people in our lives,” Jessica said.

What is your secret to working together? There really is no secret — we are best friends, so we love working together! What is the most rewarding part of working together? Charlie: We love spending time together and being

able to talk about our current deals, ask for advice or suggestions, and brainstorm ways to continue growing our business. Jessica: With the number of hours we both work, it’s really convenient that we do it together! When other busy agents ask us how we handle working together, we question how their spouses handle them working 70+ hours a week on their own! The days are long, but it never really feels like work for us because we’re together.

Couple: Charlie & Jessica Siciliano Years Together (in Life): 7 Years Together (in Real Estate): 6 Business: The Siciliano Group, DOBI Career Volume as a Couple: $35 million+ The Random Virtual Connection that Roused a Real-Life Romance

Charlie and Jessica connected through some mutual friends on Instagram, long before the days of DMs (direct messages). They exchanged email addresses and went on their first date at Mr. B’s in Royal Oak, where they spent the night singing karaoke together. “We both fell in love the first night we met, and the rest is history!” Jessica said. “We always say, ‘when you know, you know!’” Risking Rent Money for a New Beginning in Real Estate

After suffering multiple on-duty injuries and enduring three 36 • February 2020

shoulder surgeries, Charlie retired from his career as a Detroit Police Officer. At the time, Jessica was working for a real estate attorney and had a second job in retail. Charlie and Jessica lived in a one-bedroom, 600-square-foot apartment in Birmingham, and they were struggling to make ends meet. One day as they were out walking their dogs through Poppleton Park, they admired the beautiful homes for sale and expressed their desire to live in their own dream home one day. Following their walk, they curiously Googled real estate agents’ average commission and discovered that a career in real estate had the potential to greatly improve their financial circumstances. Instead of paying their rent, they spent their last $1000 to complete the real estate licensing course. “A week later, we were licensed and had no idea that real estate would soon become the best thing that ever happened to us,” Charlie said.

You must be able to define your individual strengths and weaknesses and delegate the different aspects of your business as such. It’s really important to work together as a team but to also bring different things to the table, so you can fill any gaps. Give yourself time to learn, to grow, to make mistakes and to build your book of business. Real estate doesn’t give you instant gratification or make you money overnight. Your success is determined by your daily efforts, by being intentional and by staying consistent. Most importantly, never stop making time for one another and scheduling weekly date nights. What has been your most difficult challenge in business and/or in life? How did you overcome it?

Our biggest challenge in this business, especially when we get overwhelmingly busy with current clients and pending transactions, is being able to continue prospecting for new clients and looking ahead to fill our future business pipeline. This is something most agents would admit they struggle with. We have begun calendaring our daily lead generation and prospecting tasks, as well as any necessary follow-up, so it’s constantly in front of us. Seeing and being reminded of our task list every few hours on our phones and Apple watches really helps us not to fall behind and keep each other accountable.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

Spend time with our families and close friends, workout and maintain a healthy lifestyle, spend time with our border collies Vinny and Mocha, and travel. Describe your ideal workday together.

We get to the office by 8 a.m., have a cup of coffee while reviewing our business portfolio together, hammer down our list of appointments for the day and where we need to be, send any follow-up emails and catch up on any text messages or phone calls, and then take off on the road for our off-site meetings. We typically try to meet back up for lunch between noon and 1 p.m., recap and report any updates to each other during lunch and then either head back out on the road or work from the office on any lead generation we have scheduled in the afternoon. Preferably our evening showings or listing appointments begin around 5:30 p.m., we return to the office or our home office by 8 p.m., wrap up any negotiations or paperwork by 10 or 11p.m., and then wind down and spend a little time together relaxing.

happiness are our main priorities, and we take pride in treating every client with the same level of service whether it’s a $100,000 sale or a multi-million-dollar sale. Jessica: We both love going on listing appointments because we enjoy showcasing our talents and showing potential clients what distinguishes us from other agents — it’s exciting to show someone how passionate we are about real estate. What are some things that you do differently from one another? Charlie: I am the numbers guy. I study

the market daily and know all of the new active listings, pendings and solds so that I can educate our clients about any market changes. I am also very well-versed in investment properties and opportunities for clients looking to make a good return on their money. Jessica: I am the social media expert. I’m in charge of running our Facebook business page and Instagram account, and I absolutely love creating content to share and providing value to our viewers. What’s the one thing you admire most about your significant other? Charlie: She has the biggest heart

and is completely selfless. She makes everyone feel like #1 and always puts others’ needs ahead of her own. Jessica: His laid-back personality. He is definitely the Yin to my Yang and always makes me feel a sense of calm when I’m with him.

Describe your ideal date night.

No phones, a delicious steak dinner at one of our favorite steak houses and definitely some sort of chocolate cake for dessert. Then, because we’re homebodies at heart, we like to be back home by 10 p.m., get in our pajamas, cuddle up with our pups and watch a movie. What are some things you both have in common in the industry? Charlie: We both believe cus-

tall drink of water — and thinking how handsome he was with his gray hair,” Andrea said. “There was a magnetic attraction for me, and the strong connection was mutual.” David, who had been divorced for a few years and who hadn’t met anyone he deemed appropriate to meet his children, remembers feeling like Andrea was a special type of person he would be honored to have in his kids’ lives. After four years of cross-country dating, David and Andrea eloped in Detroit in the winter of 2014 and celebrated with a post-wedding “ice-skating lovefest” at Campus Martius. From Romance to Real Estate

When the Corp’s started their married life together in the U.S., David was very interested in real estate, but Andrea kept pushing him away from it and toward a job with benefits and a steady paycheck. “I knew the ups and downs of working on commission all too well, and I thought there was only room for one of us to be in the real estate business,” Andrea said. “Before long, I gave

At the time, Andrea was an operations manager for a top producer and had no interest in working with Dave, who was doing well on his own, especially considering he was not from the area and didn’t have any contacts — she wanted to preserve the sanctity of their marriage and maintain the boundary between their marriage and their careers. Despite vowing that they would never merge the two and work together, over time, it became apparent that it was in their family’s best interest to join forces and piggyback off one another’s strengths. In addition, both of Andrea’s daughters work in real estate, so their hope is to one day assemble a family team. Q&A with David & Andrea Corp What advice do you have for a couple looking to go into business together?

We will learn as we go and most likely will have more advice the longer we work together; however, we do know that we are both very serious about creating boundaries so that we can keep something special between us as husband and wife. Too much togetherness can be detrimental to a relationship. We have an office outside of our home, so there is always somewhere to go. We have also established a strategy for being together in the office on a limited basis at specific times, and then we stagger the rest of our office time so that we always have some space between us. We also have an unwritten rule at home that we don’t talk about real estate after a certain time. We haven’t decided what time that is, yet. We just kind of know when too much is too much. What is your secret to working together?

Marriage counseling — we could not be working

together without it! Our first priority is our marriage, and we found a great counselor who has helped us understand our relationship patterns and how to manage conflict. This has transferred to our business relationship in a very positive and meaningful way. What is the most rewarding part of working together? Andrea: Creating a business that is

integrated with our life and connected to each other. David: Sharing a mutual sense of meaning, purpose and success. When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

We play tennis on a Royal Oak Beer League, as well as on teams for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). We love cooking with our friends and trying all the new boutique restaurants in Detroit. Being at home and laughing with our kids is our favorite. Describe your ideal workday together.

Meeting to discuss priorities for half an hour in the morning. Checking in with each other via email and text during the day. Dave showing houses, scheduling appointments and lead generation. Andrea providing a superior client experience and working on

business ideas. Listing appointments together. Finish with a closing or two. Celebrate with tacos and margaritas at Condado in Royal Oak. Describe your ideal date night.

Fun cocktails at home. Cooking dinner together. A game of backgammon or two-handed euchre by the fire with our favorite music playing. Watching one of our series (our latest obsession is “Succession” on HBO). And early to bed. What are some things you both have in common in the industry?

We both really care about doing the best for our clients. It’s all about integrity and service. What are some things that you do differently from one another? Andrea: I like organizational struc-

ture and communicating via email to document everything. David: I pick up the phone to communicate and work best on the fly. What’s the one thing you admire most about your significant other? Andrea: How much Dave truly cares

about people and will go out of his way to help them —his generous spirit. David: Andrea’s ability to creatively express herself and inspire those around her. www.realproducersmag.com • 43

The beautifully outfitted showrooms allow customers the experience of a real, functioning kitchen. “Whether you are in the decision-making process or have already purchased your appliances, we provide product demonstrations, culinary classes and follow-up care,” says Ginger. “It’s the level of service you would expect when considering only the best for your kitchen.” Additionally, there is also a culinary training auditorium which is available for training, cooking demonstrations and corporate events.

ith its beginnings rooted back to 1928, Trevarrow, Inc. – a third-generation family business – has evolved into one of the leading distributors of the finest kitchen appliances in both Michigan and Ohio. The company’s longevity is attributed to its dedication in family, innovation, integrity and value in everything they do. This family-owned company has stood the test of time with excellence in product knowledge, customer care and business ethics. In addition to its distribution services, Trevarrow, Inc has taken its business to the next level by offering Wolf product demon-

strations in their Gallery of Culinary Art. They offer a Concierge Level of Service by opening their showroom as a space to freely explore new kitchen ideas. “When our clients are here, it’s all about hands-on planning and learning without pressure, only inspiration,” says Ginger Trevarrow, Director of Gallery Events. “We are thrilled to offer monthly culinary training – Cuisine du Jour – in our Auburn Hills showroom, which is presented by Michigan’s top chefs; chosen for their culinary expertise, sense of style and humor.”

“We have searched out the very best appliance products and we support them with the very best in installation and service,” says Bruce Trevarrow, President. “REALTORS® can feel confident referring their clients to our showroom and know they will be well cared for from the point of first contact through installation, and many years to come. We are the right resource for a home buyer who found their dream home that may not have their dream kitchen.”

“Human capital is our most important asset but finding the right team members can sometimes be a challenge in this current job market,” says Amy Trevarrow Palma, Director of Human Resources. “The technical jobs can be the most difficult positions to fill because not only do we want proper aptitude, but also a passion for the business.” Amy shared the greatest success has come when they “grow their own” team members. “Even if it’s a longer process, it’s the right thing to do to stay in alignment with our core values.” “Every day we make a conscious effort to do the right thing for our clients,” shares Trevor Trevarrow, Director of Logistics. “Our grandfathers and father were hard-working, honest men and we can only hope to be half the person that each of them were. We’re so proud of our legacy and we’re committed to building on the foundation that was established well over 90 years ago!

Because Trevarrow, Inc. is a true wholesale distributor, they are often the best-kept secret in the appliance business. “We offer a totally different experience,” explains Bruce. “From our culinary presentations, to our team of installers and service technicians, we have the most comprehensive offering for clients who are building or remodeling their dream kitchen.”

When our clients are here, it’s all about hands-on planning and learning without pressure, only inspiration.

Additionally, Trevarrow, Inc. is implementing an engaging form of training for their dealer salespeople. “We don’t just stand in front of our sales team and unload facts and figures, www.realproducersmag.com • 45

TO IMPROVE YOUR

HE RT HEALTH February is American Heart Month. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, causing more than one in four deaths. While this statistic is dire, heart disease can be prevented and even reversed if people make healthy choices regarding diet, exercise, and maintaining good health conditions. The steadfast advice of watching your blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as not smoking, holds true and should be followed; however, these less conventional techniques can be used jointly to help make our hearts healthier and stronger. Get Enough Sleep. Getting enough good-quality sleep has innumerable benefits, from aiding in weight loss to improving your memory. Studies have shown a marked increase of heart disease in those who sleep less than six hours per night; experts say we need between seven and nine hours of sleep for ideal heart health. And, consistency is key; maintaining a reliable sleep schedule regulates the body’s internal clock and can help you fall asleep and awake more easily.

about can play a surprising role in heart health. Beyond just improving your smile, flossing daily reduces inflammation and improves gum health, which, in turn, can help prevent the introduction of harmful bacteria into the bloodstream and protect our hearts. Have a Good Laugh. As the old saying goes, “Laughter is the best

medicine.” Indeed, it can be one of the best natural “medicines” to improve heart health! Laughter has many emotional and physical benefits, including reducing stress, easing pain and depression symptoms, and boosting our immune system. It also has been shown to expand blood vessels by more than 20 percent, allowing for markedly better circulation and blood flow in the heart.

Still, all evidence points to the fact that not freely communicating with loved ones on this topic can lead to negative consequences for our emotional, physical, and social well-being. The good news is, though it may cause discomfort at first, only positives can come from opening ourselves up to dialogues around money. Where to begin?

ur finances are arguably one of, if not the most important, life-altering… and uncomfortable areas of our lives. Much like politics and religion, money can provoke a variety of emotions in us in a split second. Yet, unlike other deeply personal topics, we don’t find ourselves chomping at the bit to bring up our finances with friends in conversation. In fact, many Americans consider money to be the most difficult topic to broach with others, especially those with whom we’re in close relationships. But why?

O

Many theories have been proposed on this subject. For many, myself included, we were raised to believe money is an impolite topic, not for discussion outside of the most private of situations. For others, it’s what money symbolizes: power and control, security and independence. The fact remains, money is an emotionally complex subject, grounded deeply in our ideas of self-worth and security.

Family and Friends. It all starts at home. Researchers have found that growing up in a household where frank and open discussions around money occur results in adults with far less impulse spending and credit card debt. Further, by involving friends and family in your financial arena, you take advantage of the “village” of knowledge available to you and, consequently, are better prepared to tackle those important money decisions yourself.
