________________ TASIS Dorado is a licensed 501(c)(3) non-profit, independent school and certified by the local governmental agency, the “Consejo de Educación de Puerto Rico.” It is also accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and by the “Comisión Acreditadora de Instituciones Educativas” (CADIE). TASIS Dorado is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the Caribbean Association of Independent Schools. The Middle States Association (MSA) of Colleges and Schools awarded TASIS Dorado a Program of Distinction Award for its Early Childhood Education Program (PPK to 1st Grade) in 2016.
OUR COMMUNITY ________________________________________________________ The TASIS School in Dorado, Puerto Rico is an independent, college-preparatory day school that has English as its primary language of instruction. Founded in 2002 and located 21 miles west of San Juan International Airport (SJU), the school serves 890 children from PPK to 12th grade. Approximately 71% of our students are born and raised in Puerto Rico and the majority speak Spanish at home; 23% are from the mainland U.S. and 6% are international. All students graduate with proficiency in English, Spanish and either French or Italian or a computer programming language. TASIS Dorado is affiliated with the TASIS Schools in Europe. Through its rigorous academics, robust creative arts and athletic programs, and superb teachers, the school forms engaged citizens and innovative thinkers. The school aspires to transform students’
lives through a love of learning, beauty, truth, goodness, and wisdom.
Distance Learning during lockdown and social distancing • COVID-19 In response to the COVID-19 outbreak and per government order, the school was closed on March 16, 2020. TASIS launched a distance learning program on March 18, 2020, designed to engage our students remotely while maintaining our institution’s rigorous academic standards and expectations. Distance learning schedules provided students with academic time equal to when they were on campus, but all extracurricular activities were canceled. Opportunities for members of the Class of 2021 to sit for standardized exams were extremely limited. When students may safely return to campus, we will offer a blend of virtual and inperson learning instruction.

The majority of students are active members in at least one of several campus organizations including: National Association of Student Councils, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, International Thespian Society, National Computer Science Honor Society, Model United Nations Federation Puerto Rican Chapter, Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance, LAMEPI, Math and Science Competition Teams, Community Service clubs, Visual & Performing Arts clubs, and Environmental clubs. TASIS Dorado has one of the most competitive and comprehensive athletic programs in Puerto Rico, with over 60 percent of the entire student body actively participating in a remarkable 54 athletic teams. At the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels students can compete in the LAMEPI and PRHSAA leagues in: Volleyball, Basketball, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field.
COMMUNITY SERVICE ________________________________________________________ TASIS Dorado is surrounded by a highly diverse community, spanning wealth and poverty. TASIS Dorado students recognize their civic and moral responsibilities to their peers, as well as the world beyond their campus. Many of our clubs and student organizations serve the broader community through ongoing involvement and partnerships, as well as donating thousands of dollars annually.
CURRICULUM & SPECIAL PROGRAMS ________________________________________________________ TASIS Dorado offers a rigorous college-preparatory program that prepares students for universities and colleges in the United States, Puerto Rico and worldwide. Students are expected to master skills and content, become more inquisitive and analytical, develop research skills, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Students are expected to write extensively throughout their years at TASIS Dorado. In 2016, the school opened an MIT-certified STEAM Fab Lab, equipped with a CNC machine, laser cutter, 3D printers and scanners. Our students thrive in today’s digitally-driven world and are wellprepared for a rapidly evolving future. In 2019, an Innovation Sciences Department was launched, which aims to make students proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Design and Applied Technology (DAT). Coding is offered beginning in Middle School and the program culminates with advanced computer science classes in high school.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) PROGRAM*
A total of 29 College Board-approved AP courses are offered: Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, 2 & C (Electricity/ Magnetism and Mechanics), Calculus AB & BC, Statistics, Economics (Micro & Macro), Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, Environmental Science, English Language and Composition, English Literature, Capstone Seminar & Research, French Language, Italian Language, Spanish Literature,
Spanish Language & Culture, Studio Art, Music Theory, United States History, European History, World History, Human Geography, Psychology, and Government. *Certain entrance requirements must be met in order to enroll in AP courses. Students who take AP courses are required to take the corresponding exam upon completion of the course. They are strongly advised to limit their AP course enrollment as follows: 10th grade (1); 11th grade (2); 12th grade (3). Only students in the enriched track would have the option to begin the AP track in 9th grade and, therefore, be likely to exceed the recommended maximum of 6.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS EARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL
TASIS Dorado grants graduation credit to middle school students who take high school courses. These courses must have the same expectations, curriculum and final exams as the equivalent courses taught in high school. a. The following middle school courses have been identified for high school credit: (1) Algebra I (2) Geometry (3) Physics (4) World Language levels 1 and 2 (French 1, French 2, Italian 1, etc.) b. Students who pass these courses will automatically be granted high school credit. These grades will be reflected on the student’s high school transcript and included in the cumulative GPA calculation.

A required program for all high school students, Exploration week is offered during the first five days of the second semester. Exploration Week has two components: an integrated, academic mini-course with emphasis on experiential learning/ apprenticeship with an expert practitioner; and a service learning opportunity to develop virtuous character and leadership skills. Students engage in four, day-long sessions of academic seminars and a full day of service learning on Day 5. Each seminar incorporates a project as a completion requirement. Students are assessed on various aspects of their participation, including effort, attitude, attendance, a response journal and a project for their final grade of Pass or Fail.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 24 credits is required for graduation, including English (4 credits), Spanish (4 credits), Mathematics (4 credits), Sciences (3 credits in lab sciences), Social Studies (4 credits), Foreign Language or Innovation Science (2 credits or proficiency), Electives (2 credits, .50 of which must be in the Visual or Performing Arts) and Physical Education (.75 credits, plus .25 in Health). All high school students must complete the Exploration Week Program all four years and at least two semesters of College Education. Students may take additional credits. There is a community service requirement for graduation of 100 hours.

Cumulative GPA is calculated using all courses taken during Introduction to Finance and Economics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics Sciences: Physics, AP Physics I, II and C, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, AP the student’s high school years. Enriched Mathematics courses Biology, AP Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Zoology/Genetics, Research are taken a year ahead of the regular curriculum. They receive a & Engineering History and Social Science: World History I, World History II, AP five-point bonus at the end of each semester. Advanced Placement World History, US History, AP US History, History of Puerto Rico, AP Psychology, courses are weighted in determining GPA.
