At TASIS Dorado, we are entering a defining moment in our school’s evolution. As we expand our campus with two new centers dedicated to STEM and the Arts, we continue to advance globally recognized programs in STEM and Early Childhood while building on our distinction as a Green Ribbon School. Guided by THRIVE, our six-year strategic plan (2023–2029), these efforts advance student outcomes through targeted enhancements and position TASIS Dorado among leading international schools worldwide. At TASIS Dorado, we believe education calls for the pursuit of knowledge, the cultivation of character, and the development of a life of purpose. Founded in Puerto Rico by Federico “Friedel” Stubbe, in partnership with Fernando González, Louis R. Christiansen, and Maritere Matosantos, TASIS Dorado was envisioned as a place where academic excellence, global perspective, and strong values would come together to shape the lives of young people. That vision continues to guide us today as a community that is both internationally connected and distinctly Puerto Rican. TASIS Dorado is an independent, non-sectarian, coeducational, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) college-preparatory day school located in the seaside town of Dorado, Puerto Rico. Founded in 2002 on a picturesque 20-acre campus in Sabanera Dorado, TASIS Dorado serves students from PPK through Grade 12, with English as the primary language of instruction and a strong emphasis on multilingual learning. In 2015 and 2025, the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) awarded TASIS Dorado the Program of Distinction in Early Childhood Education for Grades PPK to 1. TASIS Dorado was the first school in Puerto Rico and the United States to receive this recognition. The Program of Distinction recognizes schools that demonstrate a strong dedication to early learning through a rich, child-centered philosophy and best practices that foster exploration, questioning, creativity, social-emotional development, and cognitive growth. Our full-day academic program uses engaging themes to build foundational literacy and math skills through play, small-group instruction, whole-class lessons, and teacher-guided hands-on learning centers. These daily experiences help students practice essential skills in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways. Activities are designed to spark imagination and creativity as children explore new topics and deepen their understanding of important concepts. Working independently and in small groups, students also develop valuable social skills, including cooperation, friendship building, and following routines. Our PPK and PK classes feature TASIS Dorado’s signature dual language program, which supports language acquisition in both Spanish and English. This approach prepares students for more formal Spanish language instruction in Kindergarten while fostering continued growth in both languages throughout their TASIS education.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADES ONE TO FIVE
We aim to provide a robust educational foundation while fostering a love of learning. E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Curriculum guides our elementary division program. Our English and Spanish Language Arts classes integrate rich content with the fundamentals of the Science of Reading. Teachers use research-proven, renowned resources to promote students’ growth as readers and writers in both languages. Like other TASIS Schools, we implement the Singapore Math approach, which helps students learn the language of math hands-on as they explore concepts concretely, pictorially, and abstractly. Additionally, in grades 3 to 5, we begin our enriched math class for selected students.

Building student character is as important to our mission as building strong academic skills. TASIS Dorado integrates character building through dedicated programs, including community service initiatives and the Responsive Classroom approach for elementary students. We also dedicate lessons to teach elementary students about core concepts such as caring, empathy, bravery, and resilience. Our counselors offer seminars on important social-emotional learning topics to support students’ good decision-making. Parents are regularly invited to presentations on topics that support healthy and strong families.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES SIX TO EIGHT
Middle School marks the beginning of an exciting and formative journey, as students discover their interests, develop independence, and prepare with confidence for Upper School. Students engage in experiences that spark curiosity and deepen their sense of purpose through rigorous, inquiry-based learning across core subjects, electives, clubs, Project-Based Learning, STEAM activities in the STEM Lab, Exploration Days, and educational travel opportunities to Space Camp at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and Washington, D.C. The Middle School Research Program empowers students to identify real-world challenges and pursue meaningful, evidence-based solutions in beekeeping, marine biology, and sustainable practices. Guided by TASIS Dorado’s Mission, Vision, THRIVE Strategic Plan, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, students develop research, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills while contributing to initiatives that make a positive impact. As students develop their talents and interests, advanced courses in Math, Science, and English Literature are available to qualified students preparing for Upper School and Advanced Placement coursework. Students may also earn academic distinctions, participate in honor societies, and, in Grade 7, become eligible for the National Junior Honor Society. Middle School culminates with an eighth-grade graduation ceremony recognizing character, leadership, community service, academic achievement, and the designation of Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and TASIS Dorado Scholar.

A TASIS Dorado Upper School education is rigorous, joyful, and deeply personal. YOUR CREATIVE VOICE VAPA |Visual & Performing Arts The Arts are a vital part of each student’s day as they learn to create and appreciate beauty. Starting in pre-school, our students study art, music, or theater every trimester. Students in Grade 5 combine all three in an amazing, yearlong, student-created performance.

These performances occur regularly, beginning in PPK and continuing through Grade 4. Students develop confidence and a natural ability to speak and perform in front of an audience. Throughout the year, our fifth graders participate in TAP5, TASIS Dorado’s yearlong musical theater program, culminating in a full-scale production presented to the community at the Louis R. Christiansen Performing Arts Center.

WELLNESS & ATHLETICS CENTER The Wellness & Athletics Center (WAC) is a focal point of the TASIS Dorado experience, fulfilling the needs of student-athletes while serving the entire school community. Recognizing that health and wellness are integral to students’ intellectual lives, the WAC has quickly become a central gathering space that supports both wellness and athletic programs. Led by our Director of Athletics and Director of Wellness, the WAC has expanded TASIS Dorado’s offerings with pre-season training, year-round workouts, strength and conditioning programs, a growing coaching and training staff, additional clubs, extracurricular activities across all school levels, and the addition of CLAWS, our school mascot. The WAC also hosts three major tournaments in October, February, and March, adding excitement and school spirit to the campus.

Our College Counseling team guides Upper School students through every stage of the college selection and application process, beginning with academic planning in Grade 9 and continuing through admission. Counselors work closely with students and families to identify selective, best-fit colleges and universities in Puerto Rico, the United States, and abroad that align with each student’s interests, talents, and goals.

STANDARDIZED TESTING TASIS Dorado coordinates and administers a comprehensive range of standardized assessments, including MAP Growth, PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, AP Exams, Pruebas Estandarizadas Insight, Pruebas de Nivel Avanzado (PNA), and SAT School Day. SAT School Day is offered exclusively to TASIS Dorado students. The School also serves as a Saturday SAT test center open to all registered students. College Counselors provide students and families with testing information, timelines, and assistance with registration for the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL, as needed.

ADMISSIONS TASIS Dorado welcomes highly qualified and motivated students who seek a challenging college-preparatory experience. A full class of PPK students is admitted each year, and students are admitted to PK through Grade 11 as space permits.

EARLY CHILDHOOD ADMISSIONS | GRADES PPK-K TASIS Dorado admits students who can meet the expectations of a high-quality preschool program, leading to a kindergarten experience with a rigorous curriculum. While some PPK and PK students have English as their first language, most come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. Our PPK and PK students are engaged in a dual-language program with weekly instruction in English and Spanish. Students develop communication skills, including vocabulary, letter names, letter sounds, and listening skills in both languages. In Kindergarten, our students participate in a Spanish immersion class. Students experience daily literacy activities that further develop their reading and writing skills. Fully bilingual teachers are trained to support all students’ language needs. All applicants must be fully toilet-trained.
ADMISSIONS | GRADES 1-11 At TASIS Dorado, we are deeply committed to our selective admissions process, which cultivates a student body of motivated, high-achieving individuals who excel in academics, extracurricular pursuits, and social interactions. For grades 1 through 11, applicants must be proficient in English, as it is the primary language of instruction. Our curriculum is specifically designed to challenge and inspire students with strong academic abilities who are naturally curious and eager to learn. It aims to help them reach their full potential both inside and outside the classroom. From Grades K-2, students participate in a Spanish immersion program. It’s important to note that students whose native language is not English or who are new to English as the language of instruction will spend their school day in the regular classroom, fully immersed in the educational program. Starting in Grade 3, students whose native language is not Spanish may be placed in Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) or regular Spanish classes, depending on their proficiency level. Teachers provide support during this transitional period.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS | ALL GRADES At TASIS Dorado, we thoughtfully evaluate each applicant during the admission process, keeping the child’s and the school’s best interests in mind. Our decisions consider multiple aspects, such as testing results, academic records, and recommendations, ensuring our educational programs meet every prospective student’s needs and interests. The final admissions status for all applicants will be communicated in writing. This decision is based on the thorough review and discussion of each application by our experienced admissions committee, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation. Each applicant’s admission folder and its contents are strictly confidential and the sole property of TASIS Dorado, ensuring the privacy and security of your information. To determine the applicant’s readiness for success in TASIS Dorado, we require a Psychometric Evaluation by a licensed psychologist. The WPPSI (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence) is the required assessment for PK and Kinder students. Please note that students must have reached their 4th birthday before this evaluation can be administered. The WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 5th Edition) is also a required evaluation for admission to Grades 1 to 11. Subscores, observations, and recommendations should be included in the report, as well as any additional tests the psychologist may deem advisable. Applications for Grade 11 are considered based on the student’s ability to meet all TASIS Dorado graduation requirements.
LEAR NING AC C OMMODATION S TASIS Dorado is committed to supporting qualified students with documented disabilities through reasonable accommodations that provide access to the School’s college-preparatory program. As an independent school, TASIS Dorado does not provide special education programs, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), or comprehensive specialized services. Accommodations are based on current professional documentation, each student’s needs, and available School resources.
