Art, community and the power of young people
“I wish this was “ by Candy Chang
When I was young…
Intolerance stems from a lack of understanding Community based art projects provide a platform for different people to share experiences
We cannot fully understand the experiences of any other person. Therefore, at some point, we all become ‘out of touch’ with young people simply because their experiences are different to our own.
This is why it is vital to listen to and genuinely support young people.
“You Made Me Feel so beautiful”
When I was young‌ I lived with undiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder. The disorder made me think that my parents were plotting to kill me.
When I was young…. I came out to my best friend and she said “I don’t believe you.”
When I was young‌ I was sexually assaulted by a staff member in my second week of university. I had to spend the rest of my degree seeing him on campus and pretending that nothing had happened because I was so ashamed.
How can we improve?
