Securing Funding to Get Local People into Local Jobs PERFORMANCE ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS
In the lead up to the 2021 State Election, TasCOSS was pleased to provide members and supporters with the opportunity to attend a special pre-election forum, featuring Premier Peter Gutwein, Tasmanian Labor Party Leader Rebecca White and Tasmanian Greens Leader Cassy O’Connor, and ask questions of our political leaders around workforce concerns for our industry moving forward.
As a result of TasCOSS's strong advocacy and business case, the Premier made a funding commitment of $3.3 million dollars over three years. This funding from the Tasmanian Government underpins the first stage of the Community Services Industry Plan's implementation, which will enable community services organisations access to workforce and training initiatives to address the current skills shortage and create 4,000 new jobs by 2024.
Energy Affordability Initiatives Benefiting Consumers As a result of our submissions and advocacy on behalf of consumers and in partnership with the community services industry, several energy affordability initiatives were announced over the past 12 months, including: Additional funding for the No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) Tasmania Energy Saver Loan and Subsidy Scheme. The relaunching of the Tasmanian Energy Efficiency Loans Scheme (TEELS). A $125 winter bill supplement for concession customers. The extension of the winter bill supplement to embedded network customers. An energy advocate role funded by the three utility companies (Aurora Energy, Hydro Tasmania and TasNetworks).
New FindHelpTAS Website Broadens Access The new FindHelpTAS website (findhelptas.org.au) provides a central, free, online directory of services that support the health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s communities, offering the ability to search for services ranging from LGBTIQ+ specialist services and emergency accommodation through to drug and alcohol rehabilitation support and family violence counselling. FindHelpTAS boasts service listings from 400 community service organisations across the state with the database of services growing every day. The new FindHelpTAS website has an easy-to-navigate interface that works on any device and the ability to search in your council area, region, suburb or postcode, or using the handy map.
