Checklist for New Families The steps below will guide you in preparing for your child’s transition to TAS.

PRIOR TO THE END OF 2026 Review School Dates: Familiarise yourself with the Term dates and note details of your child’s orientation events. Attend Orientation Event (Prep and Year 7): Introduce yourself to your child’s classroom or homeroom teacher at orientation, on the first day, or via the Parent Orbit app. Outside School Hours Care (OSHC): If you require outside school hours care for your child in Prep to Year 6, submit a OSHC Enrolment Form. Social Media: You may like to follow TAS on social media and keep up to date with information delivered via email. Facebook: @TASCairns Instagram: @tascairns

IN 2027 BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS Parent Communication: Once you receive your welcome email, set up your login credentials and log into both Parent Lounge (desktop) and Parent Orbit App (mobile) on your devices. Health and Medical Information: Update medical details, emergency contacts, and image consent settings via Parent Lounge or Parent Orbit app. My Student Account (MSA): Set up MSA for tuckshop orders and to manage your child’s ID card balance for payments. Uniform and Expectations: Familiarise yourself with the Uniform Guide and visit the TAS Uniform Shop to try on and purchase uniforms. Stationery: Order the required stationery for students in Year 7 to 12. (Stationery is provided to students in Prep - Year 6) Other items: Purchase other required items such as lunchbox/esky, water bottle, library bag and school shoes. Transport: Familiarise yourself with transport options, including bus services and drop-off/pick-up routines. Timetable: Familiarise yourself with daily timetables and bell times. Co-curricular: Explore and sign-up for cocurricular clubs and activities. Note: some clubs and activities won’t be available for sign up until after school commences. Label Belongings: Ensure your child’s uniforms, lunch box, hat and bag are clearly labelled. First Day: Prepare for your child’s first day of school.

Orientation Events & Information Prep to Year 6 Orientation activities will take place for new TAS Primary students during normal school hours in the first week of Term 1, 2027, at their respective campus. Prep students who are new to TAS are also invited to attend an orientation day in November 2026. If applicable, you will receive an invitation to register via email. Students currently attending a TAS ELC will not attend this session, as they participate in the Prep Readiness Program.

Year 7 to Year 12 New students in Years 8 to 12, as well as all Year 7 students, will attend a half-day orientation session on Monday, 25 January 2027, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at TAS White Rock Campus. During this session, students will be shown their lockers, provided with their timetable, laptop and textbooks, and given a guided tour of the school. You will receive email communication in midJanuary 2027 with more details about the orientation activities planned for your child to ensure a smooth transition to TAS.

YEAR 7 LAUNCHPAD DAY Year 7 students are invited to attend a Launchpad Day to experience a day in the life of a Year 7 student. Launchpad Day is held on Wednesday 2 December 2026. If applicable, you will receive an invitation to register via email.

Mid-Year Enrolments Students who enrol at TAS at other times during the year are warmly welcomed by their teacher or Year Level coordinator and paired with a student buddy to help them settle into the TAS community.

Principal’s Welcome Events We are delighted to invite parents and carers to their respective Principal’s Welcome events. These special occasions provide a wonderful opportunity for each campus community to connect in a relaxed setting and celebrate the start of the new school year. Preparing for School Uniform

Labelling

The TAS uniform fosters a strong sense of belonging and promotes a positive identity that supports learning, confidence and personal growth.

It is very important that students label all their belongings, including each uniform item. Unlabelled items, if lost, cannot be returned to their owner.

DAY UNIFORM

Some suggestions for labelling include stickon or iron-on labels, laundry markers and embroidery.

Prep to Year 2, students wear the sports uniform every day. Students in Year 3 to 12 must wear their day uniform each day, except on designated sport days, when the sports uniform may be worn for the entire school day, including travel to and from school For TAS Secondary, the designated sport uniform day is Wednesday each week. TAS Primary families will be advised of their designated sport uniform day via email in January 2027.

SPORTS UNIFORM Students in Years 3-12 who have Health and Physical Education lessons are required to arrive in their day uniform and change into their sports uniform for the lesson only.

HOUSE UNIFORM The house uniform must be worn for interhouse events, including travel to and from school.

FORMAL UNIFORM The formal uniform is worn by students in Year 10-12 for special events and when representing TAS.

New families are encouraged to visit the White Rock shop initially to view the full range and ensure correct fittings.

IN PERSON

The Uniform Shop will be closed from Friday, 4 December 2026, and reopen on Friday 15 January 2027.

Visit the TAS Uniform Shop at the White Rock Campus (4–54 Sheehy Road, White Rock, QLD). Students can also make purchases using their student ID card through My Student Account (MSA). For families who do not frequently visit the White Rock Campus, orders can be placed and collected via Kewarra Beach Campus reception. Opening hours: Opening hours vary depending on the time of year. Please visit the TAS website for the current hours. Parking: Parking is available inside the school grounds, accessible via the main school entrance on Sheehy Road.

ONLINE CLICK-AND-COLLECT

Each year in January, the TAS Uniform Shop offers extended operating hours with extra staff on-site to help families get fitted and organised quickly. In preparation for the 2027 school year, the TAS Uniform Shop will be located at 4–54 Sheehy Road, White Rock, and will be opening the following hours: Friday, 15 January: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm Saturday 16 January: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Monday, 18 January: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Tuesday 19 January: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Wednesday 20 January: 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm Thursday 21 January: CLOSED Friday 22 January: CLOSED

Preparing for School Stationery PREP – YEAR 6

SUPPLIERS

Students in Prep to Year 6 are provided with all required stationery and book resources, including a pencil case in Prep and Year 3. If a pencil case is lost or damaged, or if a student is starting in a year level other than Prep or Year 3, pencil cases can be purchased from either Primary Campus Reception, or families may provide their own.

You can purchase your stationery from any supplier; however, Harleys Educational is our preferred supplier.

Families are required to provide a library bag, which can also be purchased from either Primary Reception.

They have provided the following information for parents who wish to get a head start on ordering stationery: •

Pay when you collect your order, or pre-pay when you place your order.

•

Early-bird pricing is valid for orders placed by the outlined deadline.

•

MasterCard, Visa, ZipPay or AfterPay are available payment methods via online orders.

•

Cash, MasterCard, Visa or ZipPay are available for in-store orders.

•

If delivery is required, prices start from $15 per pre-pack (including GST).

•

Harleys will send an SMS & email when an order is received as well as when an order is ready for collection or delivery.

YEAR 7 – YEAR 12 Students in Years 7 to 12 are required to purchase their own stationery as requirements differ based on subject. The Year 7–12 Stationery Lists are available on Parent Lounge via School Links --> Getting Started/Back to School --> Stationery Lists, or through the Parent Orbit app. Please note that stationery lists for the 2027 school year are available from December 2026.

Paying School Fees Each January, families receive their annual school fee account. You can choose to pay the full amount upfront or set up a self-managed payment plan that spreads the cost across the year. Both options are quick and easy to manage through Parent Lounge or the Parent Orbit app. If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact the Accounts Department ar@tas.qld.edu.au.

Other Requirements As there are no fridges available for student use, families are asked to pack lunches in a small esky or insulated lunchbox to keep food fresh throughout the day. Students are also required to bring a clearly labelled water bottle, which they can refill at the water stations located around campus.

Student ID Students from Year 3 to Year 12 will receive a student ID card. These cards identify your child as a student of TAS and can be used as formal ID. They are issued following official school photographs, which take place in Term 1. At the Kewarra Beach campus, students in Prep to Year 2 are also issued a student ID card for purchases at the Tuckshop. At the White Rock campus, Prep to Year 2 students are not routinely issued ID cards, as Tuckshop access is not available to these year levels. However, cards are held at the school office if required, for example for bus travel. Credit can be loaded onto the card via My Student Account, which can be used at the Uniform Shop, the Tuckshop and on the school bus.

Preparing for School Transport

Bike & Scooter Storage

Students have a range of transport options available to them. Families are encouraged to choose the option that best suits their circumstances, ensuring that students arrive at school safely and on time each day.

Students must dismount upon entering the school grounds. Racks are provided inside the school grounds to store bikes and scooters during the day. Each student must bring their own lock to secure their property.

Drop-off & Pick-up Areas

Student Drivers

Students must be dropped off and picked up within the school grounds at designated zones only.

Student drivers may park inside the school grounds via the main entry on Sheehy Road.

Early Learning families must sign their child in and out each day, and Prep families are encouraged to walk their child to and from the classroom.

WHITE ROCK CAMPUS For Prep to Year 12 at White Rock Campus, all families must use the main entry via Sheehy Road, which provides access to the covered stop-drop-and-go zone, the bus zone, and parent parking within the school grounds. Early Learning Centre families may use street parking available on Leftwich Street.

KEWARRA BEACH CAMPUS At the Kewarra Beach Campus, all families, including those attending the Early Learning Centre, must use the single entry via Poolwood Road. This entry provides access to the covered stop-drop-and-go zone, the bus zone, and parent parking.

A dedicated student car park is provided, and parking in parent or visitor areas is not permitted.

Public Bus Service Mission Link Bus Services offer a shuttle bus service that commences at Mission Beach, to Cairns Airport and includes drop-off to TAS White Rock Campus. More information on the Mission Link Bus Service can be found on the school website: www.tas.qld.edu.au/transport/

TAS Bus Service TAS is proud to partner with Down Under Tours to provide families with a safe, reliable and convenient daily bus service. Bus routes and stops are updated each year, with the 2027 services available to view and book from early January 2027.

TAS BUS SERVICE FEES Families can select from flexible fee options to suit their needs: •

Full-time: $1,350 per year, per student. Suitable for students who catch the bus to and from school every day.

•

Part-time: $840 per year, per student. Valid for up to 10 one-way trips per fortnight.

•

Casual fee: $8.50 per one-way trip, per student.

HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING VIA ROLLCALL APP Bookings are managed through RollCall, a secure and user-friendly app that features real-time GPS tracking, notifications for delays or changes, and easy management of bookings. 1.

Getting Started The First Day Starting at a new school is an exciting milestone, and we want your child’s first day at TAS to be a positive and welcoming experience. Families will receive specific details about where to go, what to bring, and any orientation activities ahead of time. Staff will be on hand to greet new students, help them find their way, and introduce them to classmates, so they feel supported from the very beginning. On the first day, students should arrive in full school uniform and bring their school bag, stationery, morning tea, lunch, and water bottle. Classroom and homeroom teachers will guide students through the daily routines, timetables, and expectations, helping them settle quickly into school life. Parents are encouraged to say goodbye promptly at drop-off to help their child adjust confidently. Rest assured, our caring staff will ensure your child feels safe and welcomed and will contact you if any issues arise. By the end of the first day, most students will have already begun to form new friendships and feel at home at TAS.

SCHOOL CALENDAR The TAS School Calendar is your go-to guide for everything happening across the school. From term dates and the Outdoor Education Program, to concerts and special events, it’s all in one place. As details can sometimes change, we recommend checking the School Calendar regularly to stay up to date. You can easily access the calendar anytime through Parent Lounge or the Parent Orbit app.

DAILY TIMETABLES Each day at TAS follows a structured timetable designed to provide a balance between learning, cocurricular activities, and wellbeing. Students move through a combination of core subjects, specialist lessons, and opportunities for recreation and social connection. Teachers guide students through the routine to ensure they feel confident and settled in their daily routine. Families can view their child’s timetable at any time through the Parent Orbit app or Parent Lounge. Please note that families with students in Prep–Year 6 can view specialist lessons and extracurricular activities only. This helps families stay informed about their child’s classes, specialist lessons and activities, making it easier to ensure they are prepared for each school day.

Getting Started Before & After School Supervision TAS offers Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) and Vacation Care for students in Prep to Year 6 at both campuses.

These services provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children outside of regular school hours. OSHC operates: •

Before school: 7:00 am – 8:30 am

After school: 3:15 pm – 5:45 pm.

•

Vacation Care is available during school holiday periods and runs from 7:00 am to 5:45 pm.

Places in OSHC and Vacation Care are in high demand and fill quickly. Families who wish to use the service must first complete an enrolment form. Getting Started Student Attendance

Tuckshop

We believe regular attendance is the foundation for both learning and wellbeing. Coming to school every day helps students build strong friendships, stay engaged in their classes, and make steady progress in their education. We encourage families to support their child’s full attendance.

PREP–YEAR 2

ABSENCES We understand that occasionally students will need to be away. Illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or cultural observances are all reasonable reasons for absence. If the leave is less then nine days, please notify the school via the Parent Orbit app when your child is absent, and provide supporting information if requested.

ARRIVING LATE AND LEAVING EARLY Students arriving late or leaving early are asked to sign in or out at reception. Students are not permitted to leave school during the day without approval from a parent or carer.

EXTENDED LEAVE Any absences longer than nine days must have prior approval from the Principal. While we understand that extended leave is sometimes unavoidable, continued poor attendance can significantly affect learning and wellbeing and may result in the cancellation of enrolment.

White Rock Campus: Tuckshop orders for Prep to Year 2 students must be placed and paid for through My School Account (MSA). Kewarra Beach Campus: Prep to Year 2 students can order tuckshop over the counter or place their order through My School Account (MSA).

YEAR 3–6 Tuckshop orders and payments can be managed through MSA for classroom delivery. Students can use their student ID card to purchase items over the counter.

YEAR 7–12 Students or parents can place and pay for tuckshop orders via MSA and collect them from the tuckshop during Break times. Students can also purchase items over the counter using their ID card.

MY STUDENT ACCOUNT (MSA) MSA also allows parents to review purchases, add funds, and block certain items if required, for example, to support dietary needs or allergy management. To place an online click-and-collect order, please visit MSA: https://msa.tas.qld.edu.au/

Technology

Lost Property

Technology is integrated into learning to build creativity, collaboration, and digital confidence, ensuring students use it safely and effectively.

Lost property is kept for a short time at Kewarra Beach Reception, White Rock Primary Reception, or Secondary Student Services before being donated or discarded, so families are encouraged to check regularly.

ONE-TO-ONE LAPTOP PROGRAM Students from Year 2 to Year 12 are issued with a school-managed laptop preloaded with the required software, ensuring consistent access to learning. From Semester 2 of Year 4, students take their laptops home to build organisation and responsibility skills. Oncampus technical support is available. To encourage healthy screen time habits, internet access is restricted overnight: Year 7: 8:30 pm - 4:30 am Year 8: 9:00 pm - 4:30 am Year 9 - 10: 10:00 pm - 4:30 am Year 11 and 12 have no restriction.

Personal Devices TAS discourages students from bringing personal devices, such as mobile phones, to school. Students who need to contact their parent during the day can do so via the school phone at reception.

PRIMARY STUDENTS Students in Primary must hand their phones into reception before school each morning and collect them at the end of the day.

INTERNET AND PRINTING

SECONDARY STUDENTS

Students have access to the school’s secure, filtered Wi-Fi network, ensuring safe and responsbile online use. On-campus printing is available from student laptops.

Secondary students are required to keep their phones switched off and secured in their lockers and may not use them during the school day.

Once at School TAS offers a wide range of co-curricular opportunities for students to explore their interests, build skills, and connect beyond the classroom. TAS Music Music is integral to life at TAS, encouraging creativity, skill development, and community involvement. From private lessons to ensembles and choirs, there are opportunities for every student, from beginner to advanced.

DISCOVER MUSIC This program allows students in Year 3, 4 and 7 to trial an instrument in a supportive environment before committing to ongoing lessons. Invitations to participate are offered periodically via the Extracurricular Hub on the Parent Orbit app.

INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS Students can enrol in private or smallgroup lessons for strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, piano, or voice, taught by specialist tutors who foster both skill and a love of music.

ENSEMBLES & BANDS TAS offers ensembles for all levels, from beginners to advanced, providing regular rehearsal and performance opportunities that build musicianship, teamwork, and confidence.

CHOIRS Singing is at the heart of TAS Music, and choirs are open to students of all ages. With a focus on enjoyment, vocal development, and performance, choirs provide a welcoming space for students to explore music together. Students involved in TAS Music also have opportunities to perform at school events, community functions, and regional competitions, making music an enriching part of their school journey. Prep to Year 6 PRIMARY CLUBS PROGRAM The TAS Primary Clubs Program gives Prep to Year 6 students opportunities to explore interests, try new activities, and connect with friends in before or after school activities. Clubs, ranging from coding and chess to art, dance, and sport rotate each term, fostering curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.

HOW TO SIGN UP Sign-up usually occurs in Week 2 of each Term via the Extracurricular Hub in the Parent Orbit app and Parent Lounge. Please keep an eye out for communication from the school at the beginning of each term for details about available activities, sign-up dates, and the process.

Year 7 to Year 12 TAS TIME TAS Time is built into the Secondary timetable several times each week and gives students the flexibility to choose how they use this time. The program is designed to provide autonomy and balance. For example, students may decide to seek support from a specialist subject teacher if they have an assignment coming up, join a basketball game with friends, or simply enjoy some quiet reading time. This freedom helps students learn to manage their own priorities while still being supported within the school environment.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON CLUBS On Wednesday afternoons, students in Year 7 to 10 take part in a wide range of co-curricular activities. These sessions encourage students to step beyond the classroom and explore interests such as sport, outdoor education, service learning, creative arts, or cultural activities. Options vary each semester, giving students the chance to try new experiences, foster teamwork, and develop lifelong skills. Together, TAS Time and Wednesday Afternoon Clubs form an important part of the TAS experience, helping students balance academic study with personal growth, wellbeing, and community connection. Students in Years 11 and 12 participate in a program called Wednesday Rotations. Throughout the semester, they rotate through each of their academic subjects in extended 90-minute sessions. Once at School Co-curricular DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S (INTERNATIONAL) AWARD The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a globally recognised youth development program that encourages students in Year 9 to Year 12 to step outside their comfort zone, set personal goals, and build valuable life skills. Participants are challenged across four areas, Service, Skill, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey, and progress through three levels, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each requiring increasing commitment and responsibility.

ROUND SQUARE TAS is a proud member of Round Square, a global network of schools promoting collaboration, service, and experiential learning. Membership gives students opportunities to participate in international exchanges, leadership conferences, and service projects across six continents. Guided by six IDEALS, International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership, and Service, students develop resilience, cultural awareness, empathy, and confidence.

Activities might include volunteering, learning an instrument, trying a new sport, or completing a challenging hike. The program builds resilience, leadership, confidence, and community engagement, with TAS providing guidance and support throughout.

SWIMMING Swimming is a core part of primary education at TAS, with compulsory swimming lessons from Prep to Year 6, most weeks of the year. At the beginning of each term, families are advised which day their child’s swimming lessons will take place, helping them prepare with the appropriate swimwear and equipment. Students at White Rock Campus swim at the TAS Aquatic Centre, while Kewarra Beach students access an alternative aquatic facility. Each student receives a report on their swimming progress, helping families track their development and confidence in the water.

TAS Sport

Our extracurricular program offers diverse opportunities to explore passions, develop skills, and build friendships. From sport, music, and creative arts to service, leadership, and global experiences, these activities enrich students’ school journeys and foster lifelong qualities.

Sport helps students develop skills, teamwork, and an active lifestyle. TAS Sporting Clubs offer training and competition with professional coaching in a supportive environment.

Swimming LEARN TO SWIM Give your child the skills and confidence to enjoy the water safely. The TAS Aquatic Centre Learn-to-Swim Program runs after school across four 10-week terms each year (excluding public holidays) and caters to all ability levels, from beginners to developing swimmers.

TAS SWIMMING CLUB & SQUADS The TAS Swimming Club provides pathways beyond Learn-to-Swim, offering professional coaching and structured squads to develop technique, fitness, and competitive skills. Programs cater to all abilities, from general fitness to competition at local, regional, and state levels.

Families can register in person at a Sign-Up Day during early Term 1 or online via Parent Lounge or the Parent Orbit App.

TAS HOCKEY CLUB Open to students aged 5 to 18 years. The season runs from April to September. Training days vary by age group, and games are held on Fridays or Saturdays.

TAS NETBALL CLUB Open to students under 18 years. The netball season runs from March to September. Training takes place once per week, and games are on Tuesday evenings.

TAS TRIATHLON CLUB Open to students aged 9 to 18 years. The club runs year-round, supporting students who are keen to participate in triathlon training in a fun environment.

SeeSaw SeeSaw is a secure online platform used in primary school that enhances communication between educators and families. Families receive an invitation to join their class account during the first week of school.

Parent Orbit is TAS’s mobile hub for keeping families informed and engaged.

Parent Lounge is the desktop version of TAS’s parent portal, offering the same functions as the Parent Orbit app.

Through the app, parents can update student details, manage attendance, access events, schedules, notices, report cards, notifications, payments, and permission forms. Families are encouraged to use Parent Orbit as their main source of school communication and information.

We see families as partners in learning, not just participants in school life.

Feedback is valued as a way to strengthen the partnership between home and school. Parents are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns through formal surveys, direct communication with teachers and staff, or by contacting school leadership.

Genuine engagement goes beyond attending events or receiving updates. It means working alongside teachers to understand how your child learns, and finding small ways to extend that learning at home together. We support this partnership through regular conversations with teachers, practical strategies families can use at home, and opportunities to shape how we communicate and connect as a school community. Every family engages in their own way, and every way of engaging matters. We are committed to making that partnership accessible to all TAS families, however busy life is.

Parent-Teacher Contact Open communication between parents and teachers supports student success. Families are encouraged to contact teachers with questions or concerns, and teachers may reach out with updates. In addition to scheduled Parent-Teacher Interviews, appointments can be requested anytime. Parents can also email teachers easily via the Parent Orbit app by selecting Student --> Email Class Teacher.

Subject selection is a key part of the secondary school journey, allowing students to choose subjects that match their interests, strengths, and future pathways. Houses The House system builds school spirit, community, and connection. Every student is assigned a House on joining TAS, fostering a sense of belonging across year levels and campuses. Throughout the year, students engage in House activities such as sports carnivals, academic challenges, arts events, and service initiatives. School Life Outdoor Education TAS’s nationally recognised, award-winning Outdoor Education program encourages students to engage with the natural environment, developing resilience, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, confidence, independence, and an appreciation for the outdoors. The program includes camps, adventure-based learning, environmental studies, and team challenges, with each stage building progressively on prior skills. As a Nature Play accredited Early Learning Centre and Primary Outdoor Learning School, TAS offers unique experiences that inspire curiosity, strengthen peer connections, and provide valuable life skills beyond school.

THE PHASES OF THE OUTDOOR EDUCATION EXPERIENCE Dream Phase - “The idea becomes a goal.” Students are invited to imagine the adventure ahead. They research, ask questions and begin to visualise their experience. Preparation Phase - “The journey begins before we leave.” Physical, emotional and mental preparation helps students set goals, manage expectations, and build confidence. Policies and Procedures

Student health and wellbeing is a priority at TAS. Families are asked to provide up-todate medical information, including allergies, medications, and emergency contacts, via Parent Orbit or Parent Lounge.

TAS has comprehensive policies to ensure student safety, wellbeing, and success, covering attendance, behaviour, communication, health and safety, privacy, and technology use.

TAS is an allergy-aware school, and we work closely with families to support students with allergies and other medical needs.

These provide clear expectations for students, staff, and families and guide our community. Families can access key policies via Parent Orbit, Parent Lounge, or the school website

Families are encouraged to communicate any relevant health information with the School so appropriate plans and precautions can be put in place. In support of this we ask that parents be mindful when packing lunchboxes to avoid common allergens such as nuts. Each campus has a sick bay with trained staff to provide first aid and manage medical needs. Parents may be contacted to collect a child if necessary. TAS works with families to support individual health plans, ensuring students feel safe and supported, and promoting overall wellbeing.

TAS UCAT Pathways and Padea Study Program (PSP) TAS partners with external providers to offer specialised tutoring.

The Careers and Pathways team provides tailored guidance to help students identify strengths, interests, and aspirations, making informed decisions about subjects, tertiary study, apprenticeships, and employment.

TAS UCAT Pathways Course in partnership with Med Entry and Monash University supports students pursuing medical pathways with oncampus weekly UCAT preparation, providing expert guidance and practice.
