FROM THE COACH If you have followed Newport Harbor Football for a while, you know we’re in year #5 of transitioning from a legendary coach of 32 years. It’s been harder than I thought it would be. What continues to amaze me is the resilience of the players and the unconditional support of the community that makes up the players (parents, businesses, and school administration). Last year (2021) was remarkable. After a slow start, the team was able to put together a historical run, winning a CIF D6 Championship. We finished 7-8 overall, and 2-3 in the Sunset League. Winning the CIF was a huge accomplishment. Our numbers continue to get stronger as more neighborhood kids are opting into our program as they hear (and see) the fun and success that we’re building. Enter the 2022 season. We have a new hill to climb. It’s our time to turn the scale of the Sunset League where we’ve not finished in the top half of the standings since the 2016 season. We welcome you to join us as we take the challenge of taking Newport Harbor Football to the next level. NEWPORT HARBOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS PHILOSOPHY Newport Harbor High School educates the whole person. This was made VERY CLEAR to me, five years ago, as I was interviewing for the head coaching job. Wins and losses on the field are second to effort in the classroom and character in the community.. In support this mission, I have committed to our principal (Dr. Sean Boulton) that the football program will align to his (and the school’s) over-arching philosophy.

COACHES NEEDED More than 50% of our football budget is for Coaches. The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has stipends for up to nine (9) coaches and those stipends range from $4,950.00 for the season (for the head coach) to $1,200.00 for the season (for position coaches). Our needs, for the health of the program and the safety of the boys, is much greater than what these stipends offer.
We plan to have twenty-one coaches in our three-level program.
