MILITIA

MILITIA PROPOSES A NEW UNIFORM: PLANETARY SURVIVAL

Q1 WHAT INSPIRED THIS COLLABORATION?

We wanted to lean into texture, decay, defence, something we felt was true to our brand philosophies, we are reclaiming defence-wear as an act of ecological resistance rather than agression.

Q2 WHY ADIDAS?

I take a lot of inspiration from sport, looking at the discipline between mind and body. Adidas, being experts in sports wear, felt like an authentic extention of our brand for MILITIA We look at combat wear a lot in our design process, our series “Weapons” for example, so this felt like a natural extention of concepts that we have already explored. Adidas brought to us their performance engineering, movement research, and technical innovation. we contribute out vegan-ethos and innovative design with ethical responsibility.

Q3 HOW WOULD YOU DESRIBE THE DESIGN LANGUAGE?

The aesthetic favors utility without intimidation, prioritizing ergonomics and adaptability over dominance. The silhouettes reference military and outdoor gear—we used shin-pads as part of the design for our new boot —but we softened and deconstructed the styling, paired with skin tight tube tops, revealing tights, the opposite of armour actually, we wanted to highlight the power we have in protecting the environment, there is no need to be defensive.

Q4 WHAT DOES “MILITIA’ MEAN TO YOU?

We have reframed the word. We want our audience and fans to act as guardians towards nature, defending and helping to save it, being conscious of our impact on the environment, specifically within the crazy world of fashion. This is why we pioneer for veganism, are always looking at ways we can reduce our environmental impact, and we want to stress this importance within our rombaut community. The project reclaims military and performance apparel as tools for safeguarding nature rather than enforcing power.

Q5 WHAT ROLE DOES NATURE AND DIRT PLAY IN THIS?

Nature is positioned as the primary territory to defend. We played around a lot with the set design, positioning and wanted the dirt to feel controlled, to emphasise the power we have in saving the environment. We are in control.

Q6 WHAT MATERIALS HAVE YOU USED IN THIS COLLECITON?

Bio-engineered textiles, recycled plastics, algae-based foams, and plant-derived leathers. We chose the materials for low environmental impact and durability, reinforcing the idea of long-term protection rather than short-term consumption.
