PROGRAM NOTES
Commissioned by Chad Heiny and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Percussion Ensemble, Captured by Industry for large percussion ensemble is a direct statement concerning the condition of life within the United States in the 21st century. It now appears that every organization, be it private or governmental, has been completely captured by corporate entities; hence, the seeming end of the great experiment and the freedoms promised 200 years ago by the founding fathers. We are witnessing the fall of the empire.
Most of the chord changes I’ve stolen from various movies, most of which were scored by Hans Zimmer; however, the melodies are my own. The idea presented in this work is that most of the population’s thoughts and actions are governed by social programming hidden within television, movies, and the internet.
