Reminder...
It is the responsibility of all Taplin personnel to put an end to the gossip. Going forward, if you encounter information circulating that seems like gossip, or you have a direct concern regarding a fellow employee, these issues need to be brought to the immediate attention of your supervisor and Human Resources (HR).

THE MOST EXPENSIVE SENTENCE IN THE FIELD Most field instructions land maybe two of five things a task brief actually needs. The rest gets assumed. That’s where rework comes from and where dollars get flushed down the toilet.
Every critical task brief needs five things: 1. Objective - Give them an outcome, not the activity. “Pour the footing” is an activity. “Get the footing poured and inspected by Thursday so formwork strips Friday morning” is an objective. One of those gives your lead a reason to make good decisions. The other justs tells them to get busy. 2.Scope - What’s included and what isn’t. If you don’t define the edges of a Taplin Social Media Are you on Facebook task, someone else will, and they’ll usually draw the line somewhere you LinkedIn? Instagram? Be didn’t expect. sure to click/scan the Taplin social media links below 3.Sequence - What order this needs to happen in, and why. If step three and follow us for all the can’t start until step one is confirmed, say that before they find out midlatest company news and project features! pour. 4.Standard - What does “done” actually look like? What’s the tolerance? What conditions have to be met before this is considered finished? This is also where safety requirements live, as part of what “done right” means on this specific task. 5.Deadline - Don’t just give them the date, give them the consequences of the date. If the rebar delivery depends on the excavation being signed off by Wednesday, say that. A deadline with context gets treated differently than a date on a schedule.

TEAM TAPLIN SPOTLIGHT Lynda Rogers Recruiting and Retention Manager My name is Lynda Rogers (Smith), and I joined Taplin Companies in 2018. For nearly twenty years prior, I worked as an office and branch manager for several temporary staffing agencies. I staffed positions in manufacturing, greenhouses, foundries, truck driving, heavy equipment operation, and clerical work. One of my clients was ReConserve, which we occasionally take waste to. I first saw the job posting on LinkedIn, explored the company website, and applied. I still remember what I wore to my interview with Steve and how impressed I was by the office. My first day feels like it was yesterday. I was given a list of divisions, along with brief descriptions of each one and the equipment they use. I spent a lot of time researching that equipment so I could better understand it when phone screening candidates. Outside of work, I spend most of my free time with my family. We enjoy playing marbles on a homemade board my husband got as a gift from his late uncle Lee and Aunt Carol. My kids keep me busy with sports, and I also help care for my mother. I am a proud chicken lady with a hen we rescued from the streets of Battle Creek, and we also have a duck. We enjoy flea markets, camping, old car shows, and concerts. When it comes to football we are a house divided as I am a Steeler’s fan and my husband is a lions fan. My twins, Lily and Conner, are 12 and heading into 7th grade. My oldest daughter, Cassie, is 24 and graduated from Olivet College. She is the competitive cheer coach for Pennfield Middle School and gets to coach her little sister. My husband served in the Army. My bucket list includes taking my family to Disney, visiting Hawaii someday, and traveling to Scotland so my husband can see his heritage. A fun fact about me is that I was named after Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman. When I was little, I was brought on stage at an Oak Ridge Boys concert and held by William Lee Golden while they sang “Thank God for Kids.” According to Ancestory.com, I am also related to David Crockett. What I love most about Taplin is the camaraderie. It truly feels like an extension of my family. I respect that we lead by example here, and management would never ask anyone to do something they would not do themselves. If you have a question, it does not matter who you ask because someone will help you find the answer. You are genuinely wanted here, and you are encouraged to succeed. I hope my children find a career that they love as much as I do.

In my previous jobs, I was often asked for my opinion, but it was not always truly valued. At Taplin, when you are asked, it is because people really want your input and respect your perspective. I enjoy our family calls and the transparency here. I come to work not only because of our great insurance and my wonderful coworkers, including Will and Arko, but also because I feel appreciated. I know Taplin makes a difference, and I am proud to help find hardworking individuals who support that mission. I plan to be here for another twenty years, and I look forward to the projects and growth ahead.
