Dragons Den Swim Meet – UWC East
The UWC East Dragons Den Swim Meet took place over the weekend, with 52 Merlions swimmers competing in challenging hot conditions. The event brought together 618 swimmers from 16 international schools and clubs across South Asia, creating a highly competitive and exciting atmosphere.
The Merlions delivered an outstanding performance across the three days, highlighted by strong individual and team results. Our swimmers achieved an impressive medal haul, with the following athletes reaching the podium:

Ryan O – 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze

Dragons Den Swim Meet – UWC East
Our relay teams were equally impressive, particularly in the 11–12 age group, where both the girls’ and boys’ teams placed in all six relay events, including the mixed relays.
A standout moment of the meet came in the Boys 11–12 4 x 50m Medley Relay. The team of Ives I, Marcus W, Monty D, and Nick S delivered a remarkable swim, breaking a long-standing meet record that had remained unbeaten since 2017.
Overall, the boys’ team finished in 2nd place, while the girls secured a strong 4th place finish. A special mention goes to Louisa S, who was crowned the 15 & Over Girls’ High Point Scorer of the meet.
It was a fantastic weekend of racing, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We congratulate all swimmers on their efforts and extend our sincere thanks to the parents for their continued support in making all the event the Merlions attend a success.

Bangkok Patana Football 7s
Last week saw our U13 girls and boys head over to Bangkok Patana School for their annual 7s tournament. While many of their friends and classmates were enjoying a long weekend, our players were hard at work competing in baking temperatures and demanding conditions.
Our girls started the tournament brilliantly on Friday morning, playing some excellent football through the thirds and dominating possession throughout their opening fixtures. There was a minor setback against a strong STA BK side, although the result was far more a case of running out of time than being outplayed. The response from the group was outstanding, with the girls going on to dominate each of the remaining games they played with confidence, composure and togetherness.
Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the weekend was the girls’ reaction to setbacks. They remained composed under pressure despite some clumsy refereeing decisions and aggressive, highly defensive opposition play. The boys enjoyed a similarly excellent tournament under the supreme tutelage of Mr Sellers. They played some brilliant football throughout the weekend, cleverly adapting their style depending on the challenge in front of them. At times they played with incisive passing and dribbling combinations, while in other moments they showed maturity by going more direct and using some excellent hold-up play from the strikers.
In the final against a powerful and attacking Rugby School side, the boys retained possession superbly and weathered early pressure through some outstanding defending and goalkeeping. As confidence grew, the boys began to express themselves more freely and ultimately ran out clear winners.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend of competitive football and a real source of pride to return home not only with both trophies, but knowing the players represented the school with aplomb both on and off the pitch.
A special thank you must go to all of the players, parents, Mr Sellers and Nurse Laura for making it such a memorable weekend. Finally, we would also like to wish a fond farewell to those students who will be moving on from Tanglin this summer.
