Dear Parents,
It was an exceptional Term 2 for Tanglin Gymnastics, with a remarkable breadth of opportunities and experiences for our gymnasts, from FOBISIA Gymnastics to our own Gymnastics Showcase events. The highlight, of course, was SEASAC Gymnastics, where our athletes excelled on the regional stage. We are excited to build on the success of this event and use it as a template to host competitions on ‘home turf’ in the years ahead.
Following my recent announcement regarding Joy Koh’s departure at the end of this academic year, I am delighted to share that Liane Baker has been appointed Director of Gymnastics from 2026–27. Liane’s incredible passion for the sport is matched by her deep understanding of the Tanglin Gymnastics programme, and we were particularly excited by her clear vision for its continued growth and success. With experience as a national-level gymnast and a background in Junior School teaching, Liane is ideally placed to lead the continued development of our programme. Please do join me in congratulating Liane on her appointment, and I know you will offer her your full support as she prepares to take on this important role.
As we look ahead, there is much to be excited about. ACSIS and Roar and Soar competitions promise another fantastic opportunity for our gymnasts, before we round off the year with our Tanglin Gymnastics End-of-Year Performance, which celebrates the journey and achievements of all involved.
We hope you enjoy the updates in this newsletter and look forward to a fantastic term ahead for all of our gymnasts.

SEASAC Gymnastics Championships 2026
12–14 March 2026 | Berrick Sports Hall, Tanglin
Tanglin proudly hosted the SEASAC Gymnastics Championships on campus for the first time, welcoming 189 athletes from 10 schools across 4 countries. Over three days, gymnasts competed in WAG Levels 5–9 and MAG Levels 3–Pre-FIG, delivering strong performances and many personal bests.
The event kicked off with a fun “TV & Film” themed Welcome Dinner, where students dressed as their favourite characters and enjoyed games and prizes.
Throughout the competition, the SEASAC spirit stood out, with athletes supporting and celebrating each other. A special moment came when graduating gymnasts were honoured, recognising their dedication and impact.
One highlight was Tanglin’s Year 13 gymnast Chiara Cavalli, who ended her final championships with Level 7 Team Gold, Floor Gold, and the AllAround title.

The Tanglin Lions Sports Awards, held on Wednesday, 25 March at the Moot, celebrated outstanding athletes across Tanglin Trust School. While many varsity and junior varsity athletes were from 6th Form, gymnastics (an early specialisation sport) featured several younger students, making their achievements even more impressive We are incredibly proud of all our gymnasts for their dedication and for representing Tanglin so well.
The Sportsboy of the Year award was presented to Henry, a Year 7 student who has impressed with his maturity, determination, and strong work ethic. Beyond his performance, Henry stands out for his kindness, positivity, and willingness to support his teammates. His efforts have translated into success, highlighted by his achievement as Level 4 All-Around Champion at the SEASAC Championships
The Sportsgirl of the Year award went to Chiara, whose impact on the gymnastics programme has been exceptional Having been part of the team since Nursery, she leaves behind a remarkable legacy. As captain, she has embodied kindness, selflessness, and leadership, always putting her teammates first. Following a challenging injury last year, her return this season has been extraordinary - winning the floor title, securing the all-around championship, and leading Tanglin to team gold
We also proudly recognise our MAG Level 4 FOBISIA Champions, WAG Level 7 FOBISIA & SEASAC Champions, and WAG Level 8 FOBISIA Champions It was a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of our gymnasts alongside the wider Tanglin sporting community.

This competition is a celebration of your child’s gymnastics journey this academic year. It provides the opportunity to perform their set routines from the Australian Level Programme (ALP). We will use the competition results to help allocate groups for Term 1 next academic year, in addition to other assessments throughout the year and the coach’s professional judgement. The competition is one element of our overall assessment process.
Your child will learn and practise their routines in class leading up to the competition.
Judges will award 1, 2, or 3 points per skill based on performance.
Scores will be totalled, and children will receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold award according to their overall score.
Each child will take home their scorecard and medal on the day.
Your child is already practising their routines in class, but if they would like to continue to learn the routines at home, please click these links to access our video library and be sure to look at the correct level for your child (Level 1).

The student bathrooms closest to the back entrance of the gym have recently been updated to accommodate our younger students. Each toilet cubicle has a step and a smaller toilet seat, and each sink basin has a step, making it easier for children to reach the soap and taps.
Please note that school policy prohibits adults from entering student bathrooms unless there is an emergency; in that case, staff should be notified immediately. If your child needs help getting changed, please take them to the accessible changing toilet located next to the adult bathrooms.
At Tanglin, we take child safeguarding very seriously, and we need your support to keep Tanglin a safe and nurturing place for everyone. Our students have told us that many of them find it uncomfortable and embarrassing when adults they don’t know take photos or videos of them in their sports/gym clothes or swimwear. Please help us create a safe atmosphere for our students by following these protocols:
Avoid taking photos and videos of children through the glass. In a busy gym, it is likely that other children will be in your video frame, so our advice is to refrain from taking any photos and videos at all.
Avoid taking videos of competitive gymnasts, even though their skills are impressive.
Please click this link to a short video for safeguarding information for parents. Here is the link to the full policy.
We would appreciate it if you could share this information with your child’s caregivers, such as helpers and grandparents, to ensure everyone receives the same message.
