BUILDING BOLD CAMPAIGN REPORT 2025

Tampa Prep students now study, collaborate, and explore in cutting-edge science labs and informal spaces throughout the school, all within a more secure campus. It is an incredible leap forward for the learning environment here, one that will make a profound difference for students now and into the future. Thank you to the many donors who made Building BOLD possible.
With great pride and heartfelt gratitude, we share the enclosed report celebrating the extraordinary progress of Tampa Prep’s Building Bold capital campaign. What began as a bold dream has become a transformative reality—thanks to your unwavering belief in what’s possible. Your support is not just building buildings; it’s building futures. Together, we are shaping a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
Because of your generosity, what once lived only on paper and in renderings has taken shape in vibrant, tangible ways. Our students now have more space, tools, and inspiration to stretch their minds, strengthen their character, and pursue excellence in every direction. Together, we have made that possible, raising a record $17.5 million to invest in our school community.
We know that every gift represents a personal commitment, and we do not take that lightly. Thank you on behalf of the Campaign Cabinet and everyone at Tampa Prep for believing in our students, our mission, and our future.
1974
Tampa Prep opens with 40 students using a converted barn on the University of Tampa campus as a classroom.
1977
The student body grows to over 200 students. Headmaster George Wolfenden creates the motto, “A Higher Purpose Than Self.”
1985
Tampa Prep opens a new building (still on the University of Tampa campus) with 325 students attending classes.
1991
The Middle School opens, welcoming the first groups of 7th & 8th graders.
Tampa Prep purchases 11 acres at Cass Street and North Boulevard, to become our permanent home.
2000
We break ground at 727 W. Cass St. for a 150,000-square-foot campus.
The new building is completed— including the Colwill Swimming and Diving Center, Peifer Library, Smith Black Box and Walter Athletic Complex.
The Upper School classrooms are transformed into Active Learning Environments.
Ground breaks on the new Genshaft & Greenbaum Building of Learning and Discovery (BOLD), bringing university level state-of-the-art science labs and classrooms to Prep students and solidifying Tampa Prep’s place among the impressive educational corridor in downtown Tampa.
What better way to celebrate 50 years than with the completion of a project that will serve our community well into the future!
The Middle School hubs & classrooms are transformed into Active Learning Environments.
Campus renovations & additions include Plummer Hall (formerly the Student Center), Schlemmer Engineering & Robotics Center and College Counseling suite.
The original plan for BOLD revitalized existing spaces while introducing new construction designed to inspire joyful discovery. Today, these ideas have become reality.
There’s now a clear “front door” at Tampa Prep. Guests begin their visit in the Beverly Bailey Atrium , which blends Tampa Prep’s warm and welcoming culture with important improvements to campus safety.
In addition, the newly named Smith Family Courtyard is secure and provides an enlarged space for students to convene whether they are studying before or after school, eating lunch, or just hanging out with friends.
The Krystyn-Fueyo Learning Stair is an extension of Tampa Prep’s commitment to active learning—an open, inviting space for class and club meetings, guest speakers, or lunch with friends.
The Mahaffey Student Health & Learning Lounge (SHeLL) brings student services together in a central location to support every aspect of a student’s well-being. It is home to the Dutkowsky Center for Academic Success (CAS), our academic support counselors, school psychologist, infirmary, and health coordinator. The former admin suite is now a hub for students checking in and out, looking for a bit of extra support, or in need of a quiet place to study.
From now on, all new Terrapins will begin their Tampa Prep journey at the Fenlon Center for Admission . The school is honored to join alumnus Steve Trundle ‘86 in this recognition of Joe Fenlon’s continuing positive influence on generations of students as a teacher, coach, and administrator.
Jeff and Judy Mitchell, along with their daughter Taylor ‘12, honored Head of School Kevin Plummer by naming the Mitchell Head of School Suite. Jeff is a past trustee and Judy chaired the New Building Task Force that guided this project to success so recognizing excellence in leadership was incredibly appropriate and meaningful.
Connecting the renovated space to the new building is the Couchman Family Hub, named by the Phillips family in honor of faculty emeritus David Couchman, his wife Irene and their children, Kimberly ‘98, Amanda ‘04 and Paul ‘07.

This campaign is by far the most ambitious Tampa Prep has ever taken on and I’m deeply grateful for the generosity of our community, which has truly risen to a new level through this effort. Building Bold was more than a fundraising campaign— it was a call to action to think bigger, act braver, and dream beyond the limits of what Tampa Prep can be. You answered that call, and because of you, we are already seeing how bold ideas can shape bright futures. Unveiling the Genshaft & Greenbaum Building of Learning and Discovery as we celebrated 50 years of innovation, creativity, excellence and more could not be more appropriate or inspiring.
Thank you to everyone who played a role in this transformational project. Your committment to Tampa Prep will impact generations of Terrapins to come.
