From underwater exploration at SeaWorld Orlando to blasting off into orbit at LEGOLAND Florida, Orlando’s theme parks are rolling out an exciting lineup of new rides, refreshed favorites, and major enhancements. Here’s what Central Florida’s biggest attractions have in store for us this year.
LEGOLAND GALACTICOASTER OPENS FEB. 27 LEGOLAND® Florida Resort is getting ready for an epic launch of a brand-new, groundbreaking roller coaster for the first time since 2011, and it’s going to be galactic! Not only will the Galacticoaster be indoors (yay!), but when it opens, you can expect to be immersed in a LEGO® galaxy in a way that’s never been done before. You’ll be able to scan your RFID wristband and design your own space vehicle with more than 625 different combinations! The digital creation will then be merged with the physical thrills of a ride, blasting you through an intergalactic LEGO solar system filled with special effects, synchronized lighting, and surprise appearances from classic LEGO Space icons … and maybe even a space cow!
NEW at MINILAND USA:
NEW YORK: Dinosaurs have invaded, and they look like they are filming a dinosaur movie in the city. The park’s LEGO Master Model Builders tell us it’s your job to use your imagination and fill in the rest of the story. Starting the year off in Feb., Frozen Ever After in EPCOT will get cool, new, updated Audio-Animatronics figures. Then Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom Park both reopen with new magic in spring 2026. Look for new special effects on both attractions, plus new ride vehicles, and enhanced blaster function at Space Ranger Spin! At Disney Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens in summer 2026 (the current version closes permanently on March 2, 2026). In summer 2026, Bluey and Bingo arrive at the Conservation Station at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to dance and play, with animals native to Bluey’s home country of Australia awaiting in an outdoor exploration area.
Level99 will open at Disney Springs West Side in 2026, offering 60+ themed challenge rooms, duels, and art hunts that will test your mental and physical prowess.
Also debuting on Memorial Day weekend at EPCOT, Soarin' Across America offers all-new scenic vistas across the United States as part of “Disney Celebrates America” for the country’s 250th anniversary, with a variety of experiences throughout the Walt Disney Company, culminating on July 4, 2026.
NEW ALONG INTERNATIONAL DRIVE NEW at Pointe Orlando
Museum of Ice Cream will scoop up fun in a 2-story space at Pointe Orlando in 2026. Museum of Ice Cream offers colorful exhibits, unique sweet treats, and a world-famous sprinkle pool.
NEW at ICON Park
Iconic entertainment is coming from Blue Man Group in a custom-built 500-seat venue, located beneath the Orlando Eye. The signature blend of art, live music, and comedy will debut sometime in 2026. Coming soon are Ripley's Crazy Golf, an indoor, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf experience, and Build-A-Bear Workshop with a multi-level flagship store featuring a classic “make-yourown” experience, plus interactive and personalized elements.
PopStroke
Hoping to debut soon near ICON Park is a 5-acre complex with two 18-hole mini golf courses and two restaurants. For those eager to experience PopStroke, head to either Orlando area location already open: Hamlin and Waterford Lakes!
Sloth World
Coming to that slow stretch of I-Drive between Universal Blvd and Sand Lake Road comes Sloth World! WHAT's NEW IN TAMPA BAY IN 2026
ZOOTAMPA: FLORIDA WATERS OPENING THIS SPRING From the streams and rivers to the brackish waters near our coasts and the clear waters of the Keys, ZooTampa’s Florida Waters exhibit will take you on a journey through the waterways of our state, immersing you in the world of the animals that call them home. And the crown jewel is the Straz Family Manatee Rescue that has undergone a massive renovation. Florida Waters is ZooTampa’s largest expansion to date, featuring three new habitats: Manatee Rescue, Otter Oasis, and Reptile and Amphibian Discovery. There will even be a new 10,000-gallon tropical fish tank. We got a sneak peek during construction, and the space is pretty incredible. The Zoo will also host its first Manatee Festival, a conservation and education event, in May. zootampa.org
NEW ANIMALS AT CLEARWATER MARINE AQUARIUM BIG things are happening at Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) in 2026! The aquarium recently welcomed two bottlenose dolphins and several other animals from the Miami Seaquarium to their new home at CMA. The two female bottlenose dolphins, Star and Squirt, will join three resident bottlenose dolphins and six rough-toothed dolphin residents in the Ruth & J.O. Stone Dolphin Complex. CMA will also welcome a brand-new sea lion exhibit. The Pinellas County Board of Commissioners finalized a funding agreement from the Tourist Development Council grant to make it possible to upgrade the facility and continue to care for all of the animals while elevating your experience as a guest. cmaquarium.org

BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA BAY: LIONS & HYENA RIDGE OPENING THIS SPRING Busch Gardens is getting back to its roots with animals and conservation. What to do when the kids are itching for PLAY? Head to Orlando Science Center, of course! The perfect combination of contained and engaging, we love how all four floors of OSC, including KidsTown, made just for them, let kids lead the way — from climbing, splashing, building, and pretending and more. Let’s explore our very own science exploration station!
Ways to Play
KidsTown is the main attraction for families with young children within Orlando Science Center. Step through the giant teal archway into a world buzzing with child-sized activity designed specifically for children up through age seven. The orange grove is always a favorite, where little ones can “pick” oranges from trees, gather them in baskets, and sort them into crates. Here, you’ll also find a pint-sized Super Market, complete with a kid-sized checkout station, where kids can “grocery shop” and pretend to be grown-ups. It’s immersive, energetic, and wonderful for social development. Water lovers gravitate to Drip Drop Splash, a hands-on water play zone where kids can redirect streams, test funnels, and experiment on their own. While the design keeps splashing to a minimum, a backup shirt isn’t a bad idea. For the youngest visitors, Toddler Town provides a quieter, soft-surface space meant for early developmental play, perfect for crawlers and new walkers. GOOD TO KNOW: Kids Town has family friendly companion restrooms, complete with a friendly environment for kids that are potty training.
Beyond KidsTown: Next Stops on Your Play Route
Once you venture beyond KidsTown, the Science Center becomes a full map of discovery, with stops designed for every age and stage. Puzzle stations and challenges make great “rest stops” in your day — a chance for older kids to slow down, think strategically, and reset before moving on. Downstairs, right underneath KidsTown, is the Life Exhibit with real live animals and tranquil spaces. For kids ready to stretch their imagination on a larger scale, head upstairs to DinoDigs, where towering fossils, dig pits, and wide-open space offer a natural transition point after the high-energy play of KidsTown. And the Space Playground is right next door with hands-on space themed exhibits my son loves. Upstairs there’s The Makerspace, for older kids, where you can build, experiment, and tinker with real tools and STEM challenges. Designed for early elementary ages and up, it’s a great next destination after time in KidsTown, with rotating activities that keep every visit fresh.

The Quickest Cinnamon Rolls We like to start every holiday morning off with cinnamon rolls, and Valentine's day is no exception! Here's a hack that'll save you some time in the morning: 1. Open your cinnamon rolls and place them upside down in your air fryer. 2. Bake at 320 degrees for 6 minutes. 3. Flip and bake your rolls for another 6 minutes. 4. Remove from the air fryer and top with icing. Enjoy!
These mini pop tarts taste nothing like the ones that come out of the box but are just as delicious and easy to prepare.
DIRECTIONS:
Store-bought pie crust cut into 24 equal rectangles to make 12 mini pop tarts
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
1 egg, beaten 1/2 cup raspberry preserves, divided
2. Roll out your pie crust and cut into rectangles. 3. Spoon 1-2 teaspoons of preserves onto each rectangle. 4. Cover the preserves with another pie crust rectangle. 5. Seal edges with a fork, poking some holes on the top crust.
1 cup of confectioner's sugar
6. Brush the entire pop tart (including edges) with egg wash.
2 tablespoons of half and half (or milk of choice)
7. Bake for 12 minutes and let them cool.
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
9. Spread icing onto pop tarts, sprinkle on your crushed freeze dried raspberries and enjoy!
1/2 cup freeze-dried raspberries, crushed to sprinkle
8. Combine sugar, half and half and vanilla extract.
Store in an airtight container for no more than two days.

Last year, we shared some yummy red-themed lunches, so we're switching things up with some PINK inspo this Valentine's: Include fun pink foods in your lunchbox, like pink beet hummus, limited edition Cheerios, Le Blanc strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and dragon fruit. Add pink color to icing with freeze-dried strawberries. Line lunchboxes with pink, red and white doilies (available at Dollar Tree). You can even write little notes on them!

Another easy idea for some extra love in the lunchbox is to add heart shapes any way you can. We've been doing it for years with fruit and veggie cutters and of course, cookie cutters that we use for our sandwiches. Here are some ideas: Create a heart-shaped pizza on an English muffin with heart-shaped pepperoni. Use the small heart-shaped veggie cutter to cut off the wax from your Babybel cheese! Bake chocolate chip banana muffins in a heartshaped baking pan.
The SWEETEST THING: The Florida Strawberry by Laura Byrne
Here’s another fun fact: Most of the strawberries grown in Florida are grown within a 20mile radius of Plant City by about 100 growers. And it’s a true family affair, with some families who have been growing the berries for five generations. If you're new in town, you'll learn there is even a festival dedicated to this fabulous berry. The annual Florida Strawberry Festival runs Feb. 26 through March 8. It’s a not-to-miss event featuring nearly 20 live concerts, food, rides, demonstrations and, of course, all things strawberry! The Florida strawberry is an important part of what puts Tampa Bay on the map along with our beaches and attractions. And since it’s pretty delicious too, we wanted to find out how to get the most out of our Florida strawberries in our own kitchen. We recently caught up with Sue Harrell, also known as Strawberry Sue, with the Florida Strawberry Growers Association, to share her expert advice on how to best store and prepare your farm fresh berries.

How to prepare strawberries:
• Look for Florida strawberries!
• No need to bring out other equipment when you are ready to serve strawberries. Use the convenient clamshell container they came in as a colander. The clamshell has perforations that make it perfect for a quick rinse and drain.
• When shopping for strawberries, select those that are firm, plump and fragrant and have a bright glossyred appearance. Their fringed caps should be bright green and look fresh, too. • At the point of purchase, berries should be firm, but not crunchy. Avoid bruised or shriveled berries or those having a dull appearance.
How to store strawberries: • To help berries retain flavor, texture and nutrients, avoid washing or removing their caps until ready to serve. • Cool berries as soon as possible and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

• Strawberries taste best at room temperature. Remove the berries from the refrigerator an hour or two before serving. • Remove the green caps with a light twisting motion or with the point of a paring knife. It’s as easy as a twist of the wrist. • Like most fresh produce, strawberries are best when eaten fresh. Enjoy Florida strawberries within three to four days of purchase. • A dash of balsamic vinegar, lemon juice or orange juice will bring out the flavor of strawberries.

Providing Affordability with Dignity: The Member Share Grocery Program by United Against Poverty
An innovative approach to food assistance, The Member Share Grocery Program (MSGP) through United Against Poverty is unlike traditional models, allowing for dignity in addition to affordability. The MSGP operates as a subsidized grocery program where members personally select the food and household items that best meet their needs. The program works on a simple principle: members pay a small handling fee per item, allowing them to save up to twothirds of their household food budget while maintaining the dignity of choice. This model creates a sustainable system that empowers individuals and families to manage their resources effectively while accessing essential items. Inside our MSGP facilities, members find a wide variety of products, including: • Fresh produce and seasonal fruits and vegetables • Refrigerated dairy products • Frozen meats and prepared foods • Pantry staples and canned goods • Bread and baked items • Personal care products • Household essentials The program focuses on providing nutritious, quality food options that support healthy eating habits for families facing financial challenges. With our refrigeration and freezer capacity, we can offer fresh and frozen items that are often unavailable through other assistance programs.
BEYOND TRADITIONAL CHARITY MODELS The Member Share Grocery Program represents a deliberate choice to move beyond traditional charity models. United Against Poverty developed this approach based on several core principles:
DIGNITY THROUGH CHOICE Everyone deserves the dignity of choosing what foods they bring home to their families. The ability to select items based on personal preferences, dietary needs, cultural traditions, and cooking capabilities preserves a sense of autonomy that is often lost in traditional food assistance programs.
EMPOWERMENT OVER DEPENDENCY By asking members to contribute a small handling fee rather than providing items for free, the MSGP creates a partnership rather than a dependency relationship. This small investment helps members maintain a sense of self-sufficiency and responsibility while still receiving substantial assistance.
SUSTAINABLE SUPPORT The handling fees help offset operational costs, enabling the program to serve more people and maintain a consistent, high-quality product selection. This
creates a sustainable model that can provide long-term support to the community.
PATHWAY TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY The MSGP is designed to be part of a broader approach to addressing poverty. The savings members experience free up resources for other necessities, education, or debt reduction. All these are steps toward greater financial stability. The program works alongside our other services, including the Success Training Employment Program (STEP), to create multiple pathways out of poverty.
COMMUNITY BUILDING The experience creates natural opportunities for social interaction, reducing the isolation often experienced during financial hardship. Members can connect with each other and with our staff, building supportive relationships and expanding their support networks.

This is exactly what happened to Kristen Grimmel, an Orlando mom of two, at just four years old. A trip to SeaWorld Orlando changed everything and set her on a journey that would eventually land her her dream job, as Curator of Dolphin Programs at SeaWorld! We’re learning more about her incredible work and even some insider tips for your next visit.
OPM: First, tell us about your family! KG: I have two little boys – Rowan, 6, and Ryder, 3. I met my amazing husband, Brent, in college, and over the past 21 years, he has been my greatest supporter, always encouraging me to pursue my career. We’ve shared 11 years of marriage and countless memories together. OPM: Now, let’s talk about your life away from home at SeaWorld Orlando! What exactly does a Curator of Dolphin Programs do? KG: I oversee the design and implementation of animal training programs that promote welfare, safety, and meaningful connections between animals and people. I lead a team of trainers to develop behavioral training plans that support husbandry, enrichment, interactive guest programs, and guest presentations with dolphins. I thrive on being involved in every aspect of the work, from training the animals, participating in the presentations, and coaching and inspiring the team. OPM: What inspired you to pursue a career working with dolphins? KG: My first experience at SeaWorld Orlando was at age four, when I was chosen to meet a dolphin on stage during the dolphin show. From that moment, I knew animal training was what I was meant to do. Growing up, I pursued internships and volunteer opportunities to gain hands-on experience, studied marine biology, and dedicated myself to building the skills needed to enter the field. After college, I was hired as an animal trainer at a few other facilities, where I built valuable experience before landing my dream job at SeaWorld. I began my career at SeaWorld Orlando in April 2013 as a Senior trainer and over the past 12 years, have advanced to the position of Curator of Animal Training. My heart is forever grateful for the time I’ve been able to share with these extraordinary animals and team. OPM: Your “secret” to making it all work! KG: My secret to having a full-time job and raising kids is structure, organization, and effort. Having structure in my life helps everything stay organized, so when I am at home, I can practice being present with
my children and enjoying quality time. When I give 100% at work, I feel a deep sense of accomplishment and joy, knowing that the team and animals I care for had a great day. Having a husband who helps cook, clean, and keep the house and my emotions in order helps, too! OPM: What’s the most fascinating thing you've learned or experienced while working with dolphins at SeaWorld? KG: The relationships we build with the dolphins are by far the most important and fascinating part of this job. The more time you spend with them, the more you discover how wonderfully different they are with their unique personalities – they’re fun, clever, and full of energy. When I’m training animals on new behaviors, the moment it clicks and they understand what I’m asking for is one of the most powerful and inspiring experiences. You can feel the excitement, the trust deepen, and the relationship grow even stronger. Another rewarding aspect is sharing these moments with an incredible team. I’m lucky to oversee 50 talented trainers, and watching them grow, learn, and pour their hearts into caring for these animals is truly fulfilling. OPM: Are there any insider tips that guests at SeaWorld should pay attention to when they're viewing the dolphins or during the dolphin show? KG: I would recommend spending time at all of the dolphin habitats – Key West Dolphin Cove, Dolphin Nursery, and Dolphin Stadium. This is a great opportunity to observe different social groups and their interactions. You may also see some of the playful youngsters with their toys at our underwater viewing areas. During the Dolphin Adventures presentation, watch for their agility and athleticism, learn about their unique adaptations, and experience the powerful connection between humans and animals. Girl Scout Troop 869 Makes Safety A Priority

Incredible things can happen when kids put their heads together. Five members of Girl Scout Troop 869 recently completed their Bronze Award project—the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior (fourth or fifth grader) can earn—by improving safety near Moss Park in Winter Springs. Their project resulted in a new pedestrian crosswalk and wildlife crossing sign at Dolphin Road and South Moss Road. We connected with two scouts and their Troop Leader to understand how this project impacted them and their community.
OPM: How did the Troop go about making this project happen? Troop Leader Angie: The girls first identified safety as a concern in their neighborhood, especially where kids play and wildlife crosses the road. They researched the issue, learned about how the city approves new crosswalks, and decided to petition for one. Each girl wrote a short speech and helped create displays to present at a public commissioners’ meeting with the mayor. They spoke in front of the board and were approved that night! Five months later, the crosswalk and wildlife crossing sign were in place. OPM: Why did they choose this project? Angie: The project started with the girls asking people in their community what they needed most. Many of them live near Moss Park, so safety was something that really mattered to them. OPM: What challenges did they face along the way? Angie: At first, the process seemed overwhelming—how could kids get a crosswalk installed? They learned to break a big project into smaller steps, from research to presentations. They also realized that making change sometimes means thinking creatively, like adding a wildlife crossing sign to help protect animals, too. Veronica: I learned that asking powerful people for something takes time, but they will most likely get to it. OPM: What impact has this project had? Angie: The community has been so supportive. Neighbors and city leaders have thanked the girls for helping make the area safer. Most of all, the girls learned that their voices matter—and that they can make real change where they live. Olivia: I learned a lot about my position in the community because I didn't know that I could do all these things. I didn't think I could make a crosswalk. I didn't know I could speak with the mayor at age 11. I felt like a leader and that I benefited my community, which made me feel very good. I think that kids should know how they can help the community, even at their age, and you don't have to be an adult to help your community, and you can do amazing things at this age. Veronica: I feel very proud of myself, and it made me feel like I accomplished something. Kids should know that helping their community has a positive impact and makes a lot of people happier.
ABOUT THE BRONZE AWARD
The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn. To achieve it, girls work together to identify a community issue, research possible solutions, and take lasting action to make a difference. Troop 869’s project not only made their neighborhood safer but also inspired others to see how even the smallest citizens can spark big change.

An E-Scooter Emergency: Cooper’s Story by Ashley Marshall

Meghan Martin, M.D., reunites with Cooper, 14, for the first time since he was hospitalized after his e-scooter accident.
It was a call no parent wants to receive. When John’s phone rang, his son, 14-year-old Cooper, was out riding his e-scooter. “I heard moaning on the phone, then the call dropped,” John recalls. “I turned around immediately and headed to where he was supposed to be.” He found Cooper badly injured after a fall on a brick road. “He hit a bump, and it threw him off,” John says. “He had facial road rash, cuts on his hands, arms and chin.” The most serious injury, though, was internal. “The way he landed, the handlebar hit him perfectly in his liver,” says John. They rushed to a nearby emergency facility, where doctors quickly identified a severe liver laceration. That’s when Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital was contacted. Pediatric emergency medicine physician Meghan Martin, M.D., took the call. “Freestanding ERs don’t have the resources we do,” explains Martin. “They said, ‘We have a child with a liver laceration we’d like to transfer,’ and I said, ‘Absolutely.’”
not be apparent right away, but can progress over time and turn into sepsis. We have to strike a delicate balance: to identify and treat the injuries appropriately, but at the same time, to not subject children to extra radiation or invasive procedures unnecessarily.” Cooper’s vital signs were stable, but blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes, confirming the injury. Doctors monitored his clotting levels, concerned about the liver’s role in producing clotting factors. John stayed by his side, anxious and helpless. “It was the worst feeling in the world,” he says. Cooper remained hospitalized for seven days. “They ran bloodwork, did scans and monitored him closely,” says John. After a week, he was stable enough to go home, but faced another seven weeks of recovery — and six months before being fully healed. “It feels amazing to help kids and see them walk out without needing surgery,” Martin says. “Cooper’s excited about his future — football, school, even joining the Navy. It’s rewarding to be part of that.” As for the e-scooter? It’s officially retired after being Cooper’s one and only Christmas gift last year.
Cooper arrived to a ready team. The emergency center has seen an uptick in e-scooter and e-bike injuries. He was visibly in pain, with shoulder aches — a symptom of referred pain from liver trauma.
“I used to ride it myself,” John admits. “I’ve fallen too … not as bad, but enough to see how sketchy they are. I’m leaning toward a regular bike now.”

TBPM: Why is the new year a good time for kids and parents to start fresh? S&S: January is the perfect excuse for a refresh because it’s a natural “clean slate” after the holidays! It gives everyone a chance to hit the reset button, find homes for all the new gear and simplify those daily routines. Less stuff, less stress and more calm for the whole family. What's not to love about that? TBPM: Do we need to let things go to get organized? In other words, do you recommend a new year’s purge? S&S: Absolutely! Releasing the old is the first step to welcoming the new, so a New Year's purge is a great move to create both physical and mental space for fresh starts. By clearing out the clutter, you signal to yourself and your family that you're ready for a more streamlined, organized year ahead. TBPM: Nagging our children to pick up their rooms is exhausting. How can we set them up for success so it’s easy to keep their space neat and organized? S&S: The key to keeping kids organized is creating a simple system with clear boundaries for their belongings, so mess doesn't become an overwhelming pile. Some immediate steps parents can take: • Introduce the “One In, One Out” rule: For every new item that comes in, an old item in the same category must leave, which teaches mindfulness and prevents clutter from accumulating. • Use labeled bins for broad categories: Designate large, opaque and clearly labeled bins (with words and pictures) for broad categories like “Blocks” or “Art Supplies” to make cleanup simple and fast for the child.

TBPM: Do you have any hygiene game-changers for kids? S&S: Absolutely! Parents can: • Create a “Morning Launchpad” by setting up a designated caddy or bin with all essential items like their toothbrush, face wash, etc. near the sink or in their room. This eliminates the “I can't find it” excuse and streamlines their morning routine. • Install a Hamper System by placing clearly labeled, separate hampers in their bathroom or bedroom. Making the “put away” step the path of least resistance reinforces good habits and keeps wet towels and dirty clothes off the floor. TBPM: Share your tips for organizing a homework space for kids. S&S: The most effective homework space is one where your child feels comfortable and focused, so begin by choosing a spot that allows for deep concentration, whether it's a quiet corner in the kitchen or a dedicated desk. To ensure everything is at their fingertips and minimize distractions, create a "Tool Kit Station" — a portable caddy filled with all essential supplies like pencils, paper and scissors — that can be easily moved or stored when not in use. Lastly, keep the surface clear of nonschool related clutter to visually say that it’s time to focus. TBPM: We parents need help, too! What’s a good place to start? S&S: The “Drop Zone” area, typically near the entrance, makes a monumental difference in home organization by immediately containing incoming clutter like keys, mail and bags, preventing mess migration throughout the house.
