As another summer begins to wind down at Tamarack, it is rewarding to look back at just how much our community experienced together this season. From the mountain to Lake Cascade, this has been a summer defined by resilience, new experiences, and plenty of reasons to be excited about the future. By many measures, it was the best summer in Tamarack’s history. On the mountain, our bike park had an exceptional season. Welcoming riders back for everything from casual days on the mountain to major race weekends, showcasing the 2,800 vertical feet and more than 41 miles of downhill trails that make Tamarack such a special place to ride. Down at Lake Cascade, the opening of our new marina was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the summer. Seeing boats fill the slips, families enjoying the beach, and homeowners and guests spending their days on the water has been incredibly rewarding. The marina has quickly become an integral part of the Tamarack experience, completing the lake component of the four-season vision we have talked about for many years and adding another dimension to what it means to spend a summer here. Our youngest guests had plenty of adventures of their own. Basecamp and our family programming gave kids opportunities to explore, learn, make new friends, and experience Tamarack in their own way. From camps and outdoor activities to everything happening around the Kids Zone, seeing families make Tamarack part of their summer traditions continues to be one of the most rewarding aspects of the season. Osprey Meadows Golf Course entered its second full season with strong national momentum, hosting its first USGA qualifier this summer and earning recognition from Golfweek as the highest-ranked resort and residential course in Idaho. Combined with a packed calendar of dining, events, weddings, and group business throughout the Village, there was always something happening at Tamarack this summer. That momentum has extended beyond our property as well: Travel + Leisure recently named Tamarack the number one resort in the West, expanding awareness of what our homeowners, Members, and guests have known for years. While summer may be winding down, there is still plenty ahead. On September 26th, Top of Tamarack returns with participants hiking, running, and biking up the mountain in support of mental health recovery and suicide awareness, followed that afternoon by our sixth annual Oktoberfest in the Village. Then, on October 17th, we are especially excited to debut our inaugural Fall Fest—a brand-new Tamarack tradition celebrating the season as the colors change and autumn settles into the mountains (not to mention loads of delicious local ciders). The timing also coincides with the valley’s annual sheep migration, a longstanding Idaho ranching tradition that brings flocks down from their highcountry summer pastures and adds its own bit of seasonal charm to the weekend. Thank you to our homeowners, Members, guests, employees, and community for making this summer such a memorable one. TEA M PROFILE Q&A: WITH PAT BERG, DIRECTOR OF FAMILY ACTIVITIES Q: WHERE ARE YOU FROM, AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO IDAHO? PAT: I’m originally from Hazen, North Dakota. My wife and I came to Idaho in 2001 when she was teaching in Nampa, and I was working in education as well. Over the years, I taught special education, PE and health, while also coaching and serving as an athletic director. I coached mostly baseball and basketball. Q: BASEBALL OR BASKETBALL—WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE TO COACH? PAT: I wouldn’t say I was better at one than the other, but baseball was more challenging to coach, and I think that made me enjoy it a little more. Q: HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR WAY FROM EDUCATION TO TAMARACK? PAT: My background and original plan was actually to work in recreation, either for a resort or a municipality. Someone apparently had other plans, because I ended up spending 25 years in education! But eventually I found my way back to recreation. My wife and I helped start the charter school here in 2020, and she is now the principal at Barbara Morgan. I started working full-time at Tamarack about three years ago. Q: HOW HAS YOUR ROLE AT TAMARACK EVOLVED? PAT: I started as Director of Family Activities, helping create Basecamp, the Kids Zone and activities around resort events. From there, I took on childcare for both guests and employees, and my responsibilities have continued to grow. Today, I oversee guided services, the Outfitters ticket desk and ground transportation. I usually just describe it as “guest-facing services,” because that’s really what it all comes down to. We’re here to help people enjoy their time at Tamarack. Q: THAT IS A WIDE ARRAY OF JOBS! YOU MUST BE PRETTY DYNAMIC. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING? PAT: Anything that gets me outside. I enjoy mountain biking, camping and exploring, and I try to golf whenever I can. Q: IS THERE A BOOK OR MOVIE YOU’D RECOMMEND TO OUR READERS? PAT: The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. The basic idea is recognizing that you can’t control other people and learning how to respond to that. HOMEOW NER PROFILE Q&A: ROSE AND GORDO SLACK Q: TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELVES. WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM? ROSE: I’m originally from Pennsylvania, and Gordo is from Buffalo, New York. We actually met a little later—when we were 34 and 36—on a ski trip to Whistler. At the time, Gordo was living in New Hampshire and I was in San Francisco. We had similar friend groups and eventually started dating long-distance, and then eventually Gordo moved out to San Francisco to be with me. Q: GOOD MAN! GORDO: Exactly—go West, young man! Q: HOW DID YOU END UP IN IDAHO? GORDO: I had two job opportunities at the time—one based out of Connecticut and another in the Northwest out of Boise. We decided to come to Idaho sight unseen. Rose had never been here, and the only time I had visited was on a camping trip when I was 11. We considered Portland as well, but it was so cold and rainy. We had two young boys who were involved in sports, and Idaho just felt like the right place for our family. Our sons, Clayton, 23, and Preston, 21, both ended up attending the University of Idaho, and they even worked at the Osprey Meadows Golf Course last summer. Q: HOW DID YOU DISCOVER TAMARACK? ROSE: We moved to Idaho in July and loved to ski, so we started exploring all the different mountains. When we first saw Tamarack, there was so much construction and Tyvek everywhere that we actually thought the resort was just being built! Our neighbors eventually told us more about Tamarack and suggested we rent a cottage here over Christmas. We did, and it was incredible. They showed us around, and about two weeks later, we had a townhouse at Tamarack. GORDO: We remember thinking, the mountain is never going away, and the lake is never going away. Those were the things we knew would always make this place special.

I’m a mountain biker, we both love skiing and spending time on the lake, and now that the golf course is back open, the whole family has been getting into golf. ROSE: I love the yoga classes and really enjoy all the different activities available through the resort. If Tamarack offers something—you can find us actively participating. Q: WHAT DOES THE CLUB ADD TO YOUR EXPERIENCE? ROSE: We love The Club and the experiences and activities that come with it. It adds another layer to being part of Tamarack and gives us even more opportunities to enjoy the resort and spend time with the community here. Q: AFTER 14 YEARS AT TAMARACK, WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK? ROSE: Some of our best friends and some of the best memories of our entire lives have come from the Tamarack community. My friends down in the Valley are envious of the social life we have here—the activities, the friendships, the incredible staff at Tamarack and how much people genuinely care about one another. We plan to retire here. We just purchased our second property, something bigger where we can spend every season, and are currently renting out our first property. After 14 years, Tamarack has become much more than somewhere we come to ski or vacation. It’s our community.
