As winter settles into its stride, we want to take a moment to welcome you and share a broader look at what’s shaping life at Tamarack Resort—from the realities of this season to the momentum that continues to carry us forward.
This winter has arrived a little differently than many of us are used to. Snow came later and built more gradually, and that timing matters in a ski season. At comparable points in recent years, snowfall totals are lower than normal, influencing early terrain openings and how visits were planned. These conditions are being felt across the region and are outside anyone’s control, and we believe it’s important to be straightforward about that. What matters just as much is how Tamarack has shown up in response. Guests continue to spend meaningful time across the resort, and feedback remains consistently positive—particularly around service, staff, and the overall experience. That tells us something important: how people feel when they’re here still matters, regardless of conditions.
Over the course of the season, many of the most meaningful moments have come from simple conversations—on the lift, in the Village, or around the resort—with homeowners, Members, and guests. Time and again, those conversations include appreciation for our team. Their care, professionalism, and attention to detail continue to define the Tamarack experience, and we couldn’t be prouder of the people who bring this place to life each day.
February also brings a renewed spotlight on winter culture itself. With skiing once again taking center stage globally, we’re reminded of the discipline, passion, and joy that define the sport. That same spirit lives within our Sports School, where instructors and coaches help build confidence, progression, and a lifelong love of skiing and riding—from first turns to advanced coaching.
Beyond the slopes, winter at Tamarack is about gathering and connection. We look forward to welcoming you to signature moments across the resort—from ski races on Tango to Apres Ski at 7 Devils, and the return of SNOWFORT in early March. These shared experiences—on the mountain, in the Village, and at Mid Mountain Lodge—are what turn ordinary days into lasting memories.
Looking beyond winter, there is much to be excited about. This summer marks an important milestone with the opening of the Tamarack Marina on Lake Cascade, adding a new gathering place and another layer to life at the resort. Golf will once again be a cornerstone of the experience, with Osprey Meadows earning national recognition—ranked among the top resort and residential golf courses in the country by Golfweek.

HOMEOWNER PROFILE THE KUMBROCH FAMILY

When we sat down with Uwe Kumbroch, it was clear that Tamarack had quietly transformed from a place he admired from afar into the heart of his family’s everyday life. Originally from Hawaii, Uwe and his wife followed their growing family to Idaho, settling near Lake Cascade just as Tamarack was entering a new chapter. Watching the resort evolve sparked their curiosity— and eventually led them to make the leap from lake living to a one-bedroom snowfront condo in Calvi at Tamarack Resort. What began as a weekend retreat quickly became home. From the sense of community to the ease of having everything right outside their door, Tamarack has reshaped how they spend their time together. We caught up with Uwe to hear more about that journey and why Tamarack has become such a meaningful part of their lives.
Q: WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM, AND WHAT LED YOU TO IDAHO?
UWE: I’m originally from Hawaii and lived there most of my life. When my daughter moved to Idaho with her husband and had a baby, suddenly I was a grandpa. I kept saying I wasn’t old enough, and my wife kept saying, “Oh yes you are—and we’re moving to Idaho.”
Q: HOW DID TAMARACK FIRST ENTER THE PICTURE?
UWE: We moved permanently during COVID and bought a house across Lake Cascade—literally right across from Tamarack’s Marina. From there, we watched Tamarack evolve and grow, and that really sparked our interest.
Q: WHAT ULTIMATELY MADE YOU DECIDE TO BUY AT TAMARACK?
UWE: After watching the changes happening at the resort, we decided to sell our lake house and look seriously at buying here. We looked at nearly everything for sale at Tamarack. My wife found the place we ended up buying—I kept saying no at first, but eventually I came around. And I’m very glad I did—happy wife, happy life!
Q:
WAS THIS
MEANT TO BE A FULL-TIME MOVE OR A WEEKEND HOME?
UWE: Originally, we thought it would just be a weekend place. But once we started using it, everything shifted. Now we’re here about five days a week, and our place in Boise has become the weekender instead.
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT LIVING AT TAMARACK?
UWE: It’s difficult to put into words, but the sense of community here is unlike anything I’ve experienced. Owners, employees, Club Members—everyone is different, but there’s a shared feeling of belonging and pride in being here. For us, it’s enough just to be at Tamarack.
Q: HOW DO THE AMENITIES FACTOR INTO YOUR EXPERIENCE?
UWE: The amenities are excellent—the Club, the golf course, the marina, the ski slopes, the Village. What makes the difference is that everything is right here. When we lived on the lake, we had to drive into McCall for most things. Here, it’s all part of daily life.



Q: YOU’RE NOT SKIERS—WHAT DRAWS YOU TO A MOUNTAIN RESORT?
UWE: Neither my wife nor I ski, and I’m from Hawaii, so that surprises people. But when you look outside—blue skies, snow machines, the energy of the mountain—it’s hard to imagine wanting to be anywhere else. Tamarack feels like home in a way other resort communities don’t.
Q: HOW HAS OWNING HERE IMPACTED YOUR FAMILY TIME?
UWE: It’s changed everything. When we lived on the lake, our kids and grandkids came up occasionally. Since buying at Tamarack, they’re here far more often. Last Christmas, we had twelve people over for dinner in our one-bedroom Calvi condo.
Q: HAS THAT INFLUENCED YOUR FUTURE PLANS?
UWE: Absolutely. We’re already looking at upgrading. Tamarack has become such a central part of our lives that we’re thinking long-term.
Q: IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE TAMARACK IN A SENTENCE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
UWE: It’s a place where people genuinely want to be—and that makes all the difference.

On Fridays, Members can take part in Ski with an Olympian, a unique on-snow experience with Erik Fisher that blends expert insight with personalized coaching from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

TEAM PROFILE
Q&A: WITH ERIK FISHER, SPORTS SCHOOL DIRECTOR

Erik Fisher’s story on skis began before he can remember. His parents tell him he started skiing at age three at Bogus Basin, but what Fisher does recall is an early impatience with moving slowly.
That restlessness led him into racing, eventually carrying him from Idaho to the World Cup circuit and two Olympic Games. Today, Fisher has brought that full-circle perspective back home as Sports School Director at Tamarack Resort—focused on building confident skiers, strong programs, and a connected mountain community.
Q: DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU WENT SKIING?
ERIK: Not really. My parents say I was three years old at Bogus Basin. What I do remember is ski school—and constantly leaving the group because I felt like everyone was moving too slow.
Q: IS THAT WHAT LED YOU INTO RACING?
ERIK: Yeah. My parents realized I needed something faster paced and got me into a race program. That really clicked for me.
Q: HOW DOES THAT EXPERIENCE SHOW UP AT TAMARACK TODAY?
ERIK: We’ve basically recreated that same pathway here—starting with sports school, then Trailblazers, and eventually onto the race team through McCall Winter Sports Club. It’s the same system that worked for me.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT MCCALL WINTER SPORTS CLUB.
ERIK: It’s a nonprofit ski team that’s been around for about 75 years under different names. We help kids chase their dreams—whether that’s building skills, skiing in college, or even going to the Olympics.
Q: HOW HAS THE PROGRAM GROWN SINCE YOU ARRIVED?
ERIK: I’ve been here six years. When I started, the program was solid, but we’ve grown from about 40 kids to around 150. We now have a race team, freeride team, backcountry team, and a development team for kids still figuring out what kind of skiing they love.
Q: WHAT’S YOUR MAIN FOCUS AS SPORTS SCHOOL DIRECTOR?
ERIK: Consistency. I want more instructors returning year after year—that’s what you see at the best sports schools in the country. I also want more coaches earning higher-level certifications.

Q: WHY DOES THAT MATTER AT A PLACE LIKE TAMARACK?
ERIK: This is a small community. Having coaches who are integrated here— who care about the guests and the kids—that’s really important. We’re not just teaching skiing; we’re serving families.
Q: WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE OLYMPICS. WHEN DID THAT FEEL POSSIBLE FOR YOU?
ERIK: I always thought about it. I’m pretty reserved, but I’ve always had a lot of internal confidence. At the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, I watched the giant slalom and thought, “I might be able to do that.”
Q: AND LOOKING BACK, WERE YOU RIGHT?
ERIK: It’s funny—because I was so far from that level at the time it’s absurd. But if I’d known how far away I really was, I might not have tried. It helps to be a little naïve. Everything is harder than you realize.
Q: WHEN DID YOU REALLY FEEL LIKE YOU’D MADE IT?
ERIK: My first year racing in Kitzbühel. It’s one of the biggest sporting events in Europe. I finished 11th, right behind my idol—and it was the best finish a rookie American had ever had. That was the first time it really felt real.
Q: HOW DID THE OLYMPICS THEMSELVES COMPARE?
ERIK: Only one person wins a ski race, so it’s tough. In team sports, half the people can be happy. In ski racing, everyone’s fighting for hundredths of a second. I’m hard on myself, so it was a learning experience.
Q: WHAT STANDS OUT ABOUT REPRESENTING THE U.S.?
ERIK: Americans bring a lot of pride and swagger. I tried to keep that in check. But it was funny—As much criticism as we get, people still wanted to be part of what we represented.
Q: WHAT MAKES TAMARACK RESORT SPECIAL AS A LEARNING MOUNTAIN?
ERIK: It’s the perfect family resort. It’s the right size, it’s safe, and kids can explore and learn without too much risk. At the same time, advanced skiers have plenty of gnarly terrain, both on and off piste.
Q: AND THE SKIING ITSELF?
ERIK: You can find powder and good lines weeks after a storm. Few lift lines, ski-in/ski-out homes, and an insane amount of amenities—it’s a special place.
Q: BEST ADVICE FOR A FIRST-TIME SKIER?
ERIK: Pizza… then French fry.
Q: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE DOING THIS WORK IN IDAHO?
ERIK: We work with kids from all over the valley and kids whose families live right here on the resort. They’re becoming the next generation of great American skiers. I’m an Idaho boy, so it feels good to give back to the state that gave me so much support.
