McDaniel to remain in jail, denied immunity By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer
Matthew Clate McDaniel will remain in jail until his trial on murder charges and was denied immunity under stand your McDaniel ground provision of Alabama law. Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Tom Young denied a motion to set aside the bond revocation stemming from a January traffic incident where McDaniel was found guilty of traffic violations in a written order Friday. “After hearing and considering the arguments of counsel and taking it under advisement, defendant’s motion is hereby denied,â€? Young’s order reads. Young heard arguments on a bond revocation for McDaniel Feb. 28 and denied McDaniel’s motion to set aside an order revoking bond. While severe weather ravaged parts of Alabama Monday night, leaving behind widespread damage, thousands without power and at least one reported death, Tallapoosa County escaped Mother Nature’s wrath. Local schools dismissed early, road and power crews were on standby and shelters were ready to be opened, but as it turned out Tallapoosa County only experienced a few periods of heavy rain and a little thunder and lightning. A Dadeville man has been arrested in an eight-state child sexual exploitation investigation. Bobby Guy of Dadeville was arrested for violating the Sex Offender Guy Registration and Notification Act, also known as SORNA, which is part of a comprehensive federal law that requires states to maintain a system for monitoring and tracking convicted sex offenders following their release into the community. Along with Guy, 11 other individuals were arrested and four children were rescued or identified as victims of child sexual exploitation. Operation Southern Impact II, which focused on individuals who sexually exploit children by using the internet, was a joint effort consisting of 10 Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Forces tasked with combating the sexual exploitation of children. The Lake Martin area did not hear any sirens Monday evening as storms crossed the state. Some of the sirens have fallen into disrepair due to lighting and other issues. But county authorities started a year ago alerting residents another way – Tallapoosa Alert, a mass notification system to help keep residents safe and informed with reliable notifications during emergencies and other events.
