The 2018 iRead summer reading program wrapped up June 27, marking the culmination of four weeks of exciting events for participants that encouraged the children to continue to read and enjoy doing so. The program, sponsored by the Lake Martin Area United Way and held every Wednesday at Stephens Elementary School, averaged 251 students each week. As part of the program, participants were allowed to browse the mobile book libraries and pick out titles that appealed to them. They were then allowed to take these books home and enjoy reading them at their own pace. In addition to encouraging attendees to continue reading and learning throughout the summer, each week featured special programs designed to entertain and educate the participants. These special programs included the Wildlife Wonders Show and Petting Zoo, Abrakadoodle canvas painting, “Super Hero Science” from the See READING • Page 7
