ildfire is never far from the minds of California residents, and recent fires throughout our region are an important reminder of the responsibility we share to prepare our community. We also know from member feedback that wildfire prevention and preparedness consistently rank among your highest priorities. For Tahoe Donner, this work is not a single project or annual initiative; it is a long-term commitment woven into how we manage our land, invest your assessment dollars and plan. Forestry Program Manager Ben Gwerder, likes to describe it as an ultramarathon, not a sprint. Tahoe Donner maintains its commitment to forest health and fire resiliency on association-owned land, with a goal of treating 300 acres annually. Members are an equally important part of that effort, completing defensible space work on approximately another 300 acres each year. Together, that means roughly 600 acres are treated annually to improve defensible space, forest health and community wildfire resilience. We are also looking ahead. Through an update to Tahoe Donner’s Land Management Plan, we are developing a Timber Harvest Plan that will expand and increase restorative and regenerative forestry projects for the next seven years and position them for grant funding, thereby increasing the pace and scale of this work while offsetting costs to members. We are pursuing additional grant-funded work on the south side of Tahoe Donner and continuing restoration work in Euer Valley, including efforts to create healthier, more resilient meadows and forests. Beyond our boundaries, major projects by the U.S. Forest Service and Truckee Fire Protection District—
including work in the Alder Creek/Highway 89 North corridor and areas adjacent to Tahoe Donner just above Safeway and near Coyote Moon—provide another important layer of protection for our community. Our work also extends beyond the forest itself. Tahoe Donner is partnering with the Town of Truckee on its communitywide evacuation study, including additional analysis focused specifically on Tahoe Donner. Member feedback collected through focus groups and surveys this summer will help inform that work, with additional engagement opportunities ahead. Finally, we continue to explore innovative approaches to one of the most difficult challenges facing mountain communities: homeowners’ insurance. Building on Tahoe Donner’s groundbreaking parametric insurance coverage for our open space, we are working with insurance experts to explore whether the extensive on-theground data documenting our wildfire mitigation efforts could help insurers better understand risk at the individual-property level. Our hope is that this work can ultimately contribute to more affordable and sustainable insurance options for homeowners and get many of you off the Fair Plan. From forest management and defensible space to evacuation planning and insurance, there is a tremendous amount of work happening on behalf of our community. Much of it is possible because of strong partnerships with members, local agencies and regional experts and because of the membership dollars Tahoe Donner invests year after year to protect the community and landscape we all value. While we’re still reveling in the beauty and bliss of late summer and early autumn in Truckee Tahoe, the ski season is just around the corner! And with that comes a variety of youth programming to help your kids develop a strong foundation for winter sports. There is a mountain for everyone in the Tahoe Basin, from highadrenaline hot doggers and dynamic downhillers to endurance athletes and leisurely explorers. But Downhill Ski Resort sets itself apart as “the best place to begin,” maintaining its time-honored reputation through forgiving terrain, family-focused programming and convenient amenities. Downhill continues to take pride in its wide-open beginner runs and friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere that has welcomed generations of families starting out on their winter sports journey. Now, with a brand-new ski lodge, Downhill’s youth programs 4
have incorporated the all-new indoor learning center experience. This dedicated just-for-kids space includes cubbies for personal belongings; private, kid-sized restrooms; lunch and activity tables; and, for full-day kids lessons, an included lunch with its own food and beverage service counter. The center creates a novel, school-like experience that helps kids look forward to learning days. Parents and guardians can also look forward to some great accommodations. The lodge provides shuttle service to and from the parking lot and main entrance, wall-to-wall windows, workspaces, an expanded menu and an enhanced dining and bar area for a comfortable and convenient place to post up on ski days. TDXC offers youth programs for kids as young as 5 and include a trail pass for each session. Be sure to check age and ability requirements before enrolling.
PREPARATION STARTS AT HOME + AHEAD OF TIME Similar to a day at school, at-home preparation is important for a positive experience. Families can start with a healthy and wholesome dinner and an early bedtime the night before their children’s learning days. In the mornings, schedule ample time to get dressed, eat a hearty breakfast, apply sunscreen and travel to the ski areas. It’s never a good idea to rush; always check weather and road conditions before leaving the house and plan accordingly to ensure you arrive safely and on time. Checklists can be helpful in remembering everything you need for your day on the snow. Consider the following:
Dec. 11 through April 11, so kids can get additional skiing or riding in outside of their sessions. • Cross country ski rentals are included with TDXC youth program fees. Ahead of programming, stop by the tech and rental shop inside Alder Creek Adventure Center to get outfitted with classic or skate skis, boots and poles. • If your family already has equipment, take time before the season starts to check that skis, ski poles and snowboard sizes are still appropriate (kids grow significantly from season to season!) and that boots still fit correctly. • Before leaving the house make sure helmets, goggles or sunglasses, skis, snowboards, poles (if needed) and boots are packed. Pro Tip: Routinely teach your kids how to check their ski and snowboard equipment, stow it in the car, unload it and carry it safely to the ski area. This helps them exercise independence and learn to be responsible for their gear!
DOWNHILL LEARNING DAYS: WHAT TO EXPECT Learning to ski or snowboard has never been more fun and conveniently organized for families! With an easily accessible onmountain learning area, enthusiastic instructors and the campuslike feel of the indoor learning center, kids look forward to their weekly ski and ride sessions with enthusiasm and excitement. More importantly, they have endless opportunities to practice independence and make new friends while honing their downhill skills.

As with any new activity, getting started can be a daunting task for families. Both downhill and cross country skiing require advanced planning, appropriate gear and day-of preparation. The following guide can help you ensure a smooth transition from home to hill and get your family excited for the ski season ahead!

Parents can make friends, too! While “school is in session,” parents can relax, unwind and get to know each other at the newly renovated Downhill Ski Lodge, featuring breakfast and lunch from the Downhill Kitchen + Grill, ample indoor and outdoor seating, a full-service bar area and designated work stations with outlets and internet connection. Panoramic mountain views and a modern interior enhance the lodge experience, offering a comfortable and cozy basecamp for parents and guardians to hang out during their kids’ lessons.
Alternatively, parents and guardians can explore the mountain on their own – season passes are the best value for frequent skiers! Important: Parents and guardians should stay on-site and remain accessible at all times. Make sure to keep your cell phone charged and your ringer on in case you need to be contacted by staff.
ON-MOUNTAIN FUN + LEARNING For the TD Tykes program, each session is packed with activity and focused learning. Beginning skiers and snowboarders develop their skills in the cordoned-off learning area, with a slight downhill pitch and “magic carpet” conveyor belt to transport them back to the top of the run. Here, kids learn the basics, including proper positioning, comfort with their equipment and maneuvering through small obstacles such as a small tunnel or cones. Instructors stay close for safety and support while keeping the energy and enthusiasm high.
Children who demonstrate more comfort and proficiency take the Snowbird Chairlift to the beginner-friendly Snowbird Run, where they build confidence and control by following in a single-file line behind their instructor. This follow-the-leader style of instruction allows the group to maintain a safe speed and stay together. 6
About halfway through the season, it’s now time to head up Eagle Rock chairlift and earn the coveted “I Conquered Eagle Rock” sticker for their helmet. At the end of the season, their progress is rewarded with a group graduation ceremony, new “badges” (stickers) and newfound confidence with every milestone reached. It’s traditions like these that stay with children for a lifetime and make learning with Downhill Ski Resort so special for generations of ski and snowboard families. As young skiers progress beyond TD Tykes, Tahoe Donner offers a pathway of season-long programs designed to keep them learning, challenged and excited about spending winter on the mountain. Speedsters, for ages 4-6, helps independent young skiers and riders take their skills and confidence to the next level. From there, kids ages 7-13 can join the Recreational Ski + Snowboard Team, where small groups, individual attention and a season spent with familiar coaches and friends make progression fun. For those ready for a bigger challenge, the All-Mountain Team gives ages 7-17 the opportunity to explore the entire mountain, from powder days to the terrain park, with more than 30 days of coaching scheduled throughout the season. Young athletes drawn to competition can join the Ski Race Team, combining more than 30 days of coaching and racing with participation in the Tahoe League race series. With season passes included in these programs, kids can continue progressing year after year while building skills, friendships and the kind of winter memories that grow right alongside them.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT + EXPLORATION AT TDXC Cross country (XC) skiing provides an exceptional foundation for on-snow agility, endurance, strength and fitness at any age. Children who learn to XC ski add invaluable skills to their winter sports repertoire, gaining knowledge of the elements, of navigating trails and of traveling over long distances and across varied terrain. Beyond those physical benefits, XC gives kids the freedom to explore the outdoors, build independence and discover a winter sport they can enjoy for a lifetime. TDXC’s season-long, midweek after-school programs turn winter afternoons into opportunities for progression, adventure and new friendships. Young skiers can start by building foundational cross country skills through games, instruction and exploration before progressing into programs focused on biathlon or racing. With equipment and trail passes included, the programs also make it easy for families to get kids on snow consistently without a significant upfront investment in gear. For those who want to continue competitively, TDXC programs can also help prepare young athletes for the Alder Creek Middle School and Truckee High School cross country ski teams. Pro Tip: At any time during the winter season, children ages 5-12 who are curious about XC skiing can take part in Kids Club Group Lessons, offered on weekends and holidays at 10AM and 12PM. Starting at $84 for members, these group lesson packages include a trail pass and equipment rentals.
The Alder Creek Adventure Center offers a comfortable homebase for XC skiers and their families with lockers, restrooms and a cozy couch and fireplace. During the winter ski season, the Alder Creek Cafe offers fresh and healthy menu options, ideal for winter athletes.

2027 Fire Safety Property Inspection
To Take Place in the Spring of 2027 for All of Unit 8 (Lots 1-608) and Portions of Unit 2 (Lots 1-391) BY CYNTHIA CENDREDA
Tahoe Donner Land Management staff would like to thank all members who have brought their properties into compliance with defensible space standards and continue to maintain them each year. The association continues to make great strides in creating and sustaining a fire-safe community. With the increasing intensity of fire seasons each year and the growing concerns from members for the safety of their homes, Tahoe Donner utilizes various programs to ensure private properties are in compliance with state laws, local ordinances and association Covenants and Restrictions (C&Rs).
2027 Inspection Cycle Properties will be assessed in the spring of 2027 to provide the best and most accurate information for homeowners who need to complete maintenance that year. 8
If you would like to complete any work in the fall of 2026, please visit tahoedonner.com/defensible-space to review guidelines for compliance. Homeowners can also request an inspection at defensiblespacereport.org/tahoedonner. If you are planning to perform any work in anticipation of an upcoming inspection, please submit an initial inspection request to receive clearance or a maintenance checklist. It is also recommended that second homeowners or part-time residents visit their properties as soon as conditions allow in the spring of 2027 to get a head start. For the 2027 Inspection Cycle, all or portions of the following streets will be assessed: Basel Place, Bavarian Way, Bennett Flat Road, Chamonix Road, Falcon Point Place, Hansel Avenue, Hidden Circle, Julian Avenue, Kitzbuhel Road, K T Court, Lausanne Way,
Mougle Lane, Muhlebach Way, Munich Drive, Nordic Lane, Northwoods Boulevard, Saint Bernard Drive, Schussing Way, Sitzmark Way, Tundra Drive, Zurich Place.
How You Will be Notified As required by the association C&Rs, the information provided here serves as a written notice that inspections will occur in the spring of 2027 as soon as conditions allow, usually between the middle of May and the end of June. Members whose homes are within the inspection zone will also receive an email stating that their property will be inspected as part of the 2027 program cycle. Starting in spring 2027, compliant property owners will be notified as inspections occur across approximately 1,000 properties. A Notice of Non-Compliance with inspection results will be sent to property owners
requiring work to be completed by an established due date between the end of June and August 2027. Homeowners will be given 45 days to correct any issues or provide a copy of an agreement with a contractor covering the scope of work required.

Rules + Guidelines Tahoe Donner residents should familiarize themselves with the complete rules and guidelines for defensible space inspection standards. Detailed guidelines can be found at tahoedonner.com/defensible-space. Don’t wait until 2027 or your compliance inspection year. Homeowners should perform regular maintenance to ensure that defensible space projects are manageable each year. Now is a great time to begin tackling big items like limbing up trees and clearing brush as the weather begins to cool and waste removal options are still available.

No branches can hang within 6 feet of the ground for trees greater than 15 feet in height. Excessively dense tree cover must be thinned, which generally applies to trees around 10 inches in diameter or less that are growing without proper spacing from one another or growing under the canopy of larger trees. Note: Staff will mark trees that need to be removed as homeowners need a permit to remove trees greater than 4 inches in diameter – measured 3 feet off the ground. You may begin removing trees less than 4 inches in diameter – measured 3 feet off the ground – at any time and can save a lot of time and money by doing so now.

Firewood, lumber or any flammable material should be stacked 30 feet from the structure on your property only. Old, unused or decomposed firewood must be removed. There should be no brush under trees or within 10 feet of the outer limb of the tree, as well as no brush within 10 feet of the structure or anything attached to the structure. From 11 feet to 30 feet, clumps of brush can have a maximum diameter of 5 feet, with a minimum of 20 feet of separation between clumps. From 31 feet to 100 feet, or the lot line (whichever comes first), clumps of brush can have a maximum diameter of 10 feet, with 15 feet of separation between clumps. Defensible space maintenance should be conducted yearly. The C&Rs require that each lot be maintained to prevent

Community Safety Reminders Fire Ban The Truckee Fire Protection District has implemented an ordinance to suspend backyard-type campfires and charcoal barbecues during fire season. Violation of this ordinance is also a Tahoe Donner violation with associated fines.

RESERVE STUDY FUND: This umbrella capital reserve saves for the maintenance, repair and replacement of the Association’s existing major components. It’s split into two sub-funds: REPAIR + REPLACEMENT FUND: Saves for corrective maintenance and repair, and the replacement of items that wear out within 30 years (e.g. paint, flooring, vehicles) LONG LIFE FUND: Saves for the repair and replacement of items that last longer than 30 years (e.g. roofs, foundation, and full facility replacement)

There’s a unique sense of nostalgia that comes from the autumn season, this welcome period of transition back to school, to cooler weather, to hearty fall harvests and to the aspens showcasing an array of bright and bold earth tones before dropping their leaves.
It evokes such feelings of warmth, togetherness and excitement for the holiday celebrations ahead from Halloween and Thanksgiving through Christmas and the New Year. It’s an especially exciting time for children, who revel in all the festivities, savoring their families’ traditions and making cherished memories that last a lifetime. The kick-off event of the cozy season, Tahoe Donner’s annual Fall Festival brings together multi-generational families, friends and more for time-honored fall traditions and to celebrate community. Now in its fifteenth year, the festival continues to foster joy and merriment through an array of activities for all ages, including live music, a wild animal show, pony rides, arts and crafts for kids, tasty treats and much more! Read on to learn more about one of Tahoe Donner’s most popular and treasured gatherings. 12
NORTHWOODS CLUBHOUSE – THE HUB + HEART OF TAHOE DONNER Held on the lawn at the Northwoods Clubhouse, the festival takes place amidst the backdrop of serene Bennett Flat Meadow with easy access to the clubhouse amenities, including accessible parking, restrooms, the Gathering Room inside for respite and a playground for outdoor enjoyment. Come for the festival, stay for the relaxing and welcoming atmosphere of the clubhouse, the hub and heart of Tahoe Donner.
BARNYARD BUDDIES + WILD THINGS ANIMALS SHOW No harvest-themed festival is complete without the incorporation of barnyard and forest friends. Each year, Fall Festival hosts a petting zoo for kids to cuddle up with baby goats, bunnies and other small farm animals, while others can saddle up for gentle pony rides.
Fall Festival is the place for multigenerational families to explore adventurous activities together. Kids can fly high on the bungee trampoline, bop around in the bounce house and take on the inflatable obstacle course as parents and grandparents cheer them on. Or together, everyone can conquer the maze or even the climbing wall! There’s no limit to the fun and memories, as children grow into all the exciting activities. Of the offerings each year, Jesse Strzok, Assistant Director of Operations, says, “One of my favorite things about Fall Festival is seeing the same kids year after year get a little more coordinated, more brave and a little more bold about the bigger activities. One year, they’re slowly and carefully working their way up the climbing wall, and the next, they’re ripping up it as fast as they can. It’s the same thing with the bungee trampoline. Every year, the kids jump higher and higher, adding a flip, or several! It’s great!”
However, the headliner of the entire event might just be the Wild Things Animal Show, where audiences of all ages are introduced to an array of common and exotic animals that serve as ambassadors for wildlife education and conservation. The engaging and humor-filled show is led by animal specialists offering fun anecdotes and interesting wildlife facts. “This is my favorite part of Fall Festival!” says 10-year-old Hazel Fajkos, who attends each year. “I get to see all kinds of wild animals up close. One time, they showed us a kinkajou and a raccoon – they were so cute! But they don’t make great pets and should stay wild.”

Clubs 4-Wheelers Club This month, a group of TD 4-Wheelers attended the 74th Jeepers Jamboree on the legendary Rubicon Trail. It was an incredible four days of four-wheeling, food, entertainment, recreation and camaraderie. The Rubicon Trail ranks among the most challenging off-road routes in the United States. While it is a bucket-list destination for off-roaders worldwide, we are lucky to have it right in our backyard! To learn more about our club and rides, visit td4wheelers.org.
American Mah Jongg Club Attendance at the Tahoe Donner Mah Jongg Club is still going strong during the summer months. We usually have three to four tables filled, and sometimes five to six! If we have an uneven number attending, we usually rotate or play some tables of three. No RSVP is needed – just come! We always have room for experienced players. If you are new to the game and not able
to play at a comfortable pace, it is usually possible to get a table going for similar, slower-paced players. We play every Tuesday from 1-4PM at Alder Creek Adventure Center using the National Mah Jongg League rules. Gardening Club Nights begin to cool, so watch for early frost warnings. Start harvesting remaining crops and consider covering sensitive plants overnight. Divide and share any perennials that have outgrown their space, and collect native seeds. Plant hardy bulbs like daffodils, hyacinths and muscari for spring blooms. Deer love tulips, but they may be worth trying! Fire danger is likely elevated, so be sure to remove dry plant debris and pine needles, especially near the house. The Gardening Club typically meets from 4-5:30PM on the last Sunday of the month, April through October. Members are notified of meeting details via email once they sign up. Interested in joining us? Quilt Club September brings Labor Day Weekend, which unofficially signifies the end of Summer and a return to school for many young people. But it also gives us some of the nicest weather of the year to enjoy. So as much as I am sad to see summer coming 20
to a close, I am gearing up to enjoy this month to the fullest! We had a wonderful surprise when an enthusiastic young woman came to a meeting in July and showed us her “test” bubble quilt. I had never seen this type of quilt, and I enjoyed learning about it from her. Good job, Caroline! We hope to see you more often!

Women’s Golf Club The Tahoe Donner Women’s Golf Club has been making the most of another incredible season, filled with friendly competition, memorable events and plenty of laughs along the way. STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY:
TAHOE DONNER GIVING FUND SUPPORTS THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF NORTH LAKE TAHOE These scholarships help remove financial barriers so that every child can experience a safe place to learn, play and grow. The impact of the Boys and Girls Club extends far beyond the children who walk through its doors each day. Working parents gain peace of mind knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing environment before and after school. Students build friendships, discover new interests, receive homework assistance and develop important life skills. The entire community benefits when young people have positive role models and opportunities to thrive.
This month, we are proud to highlight one of our grant recipients, the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, an organization that has been changing young lives for decades under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Mindy Carbajal. For more than 20 years, Mindy has guided the Club with a clear vision and unwavering commitment to helping every child reach their full potential. The Club’s motto, “Great Futures Start Here,” is much more than a slogan; it is the foundation for everything the organization does. Every day, staff members and volunteers provide a 22
safe, supportive environment where young people can learn, grow, build friendships, and develop the confidence to succeed in both school and life. Serving youth throughout the North Lake Tahoe region, the Boys and Girls Club operates sites in Kings Beach, Truckee and Incline Village. During the school year, the Club welcomes an average of 405 students each day. Even during the summer months, when many families are balancing work schedules and childcare needs, average daily attendance remains strong at 371 students, demonstrating the Club’s vital role as a yearround resource for local families. One of the most inspiring aspects of the organization’s work is its commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. Today, 46 percent of the students attending the Boys and Girls Club receive scholarships, allowing hundreds of young people to benefit from the programs they might not otherwise be able to access.
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund Committee is chartered by the Tahoe Donner Board of Directors to carry out the mission of the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund: to inspire generosity and charitable giving among Tahoe Donner members to support deserving programs and youth in the greater Truckee Community. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is administered as an affiliate fund of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN 680416404. All contributions are voluntary, irrevocable, and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tahoe Donner Giving Fund grants and scholarships are made through the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation’s annual review process. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund Committee thanks our founding partner, Elements Mountain Company, who has supported the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund since its inception in 2014, and the anonymous Tahoe Donner member who has generously funded the IMPACT Scholarships each year since 2019.

National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrates the History, Heritage and Hopes of Hispanic American Communities

National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. It gives important recognition to the countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino individuals and communities to the development of the United States, while honoring their cultural influences that have enriched this land for centuries. From art, music and cuisine to economic growth and social and labor reform, Hispanic and Latino history and heritage are deeply embedded in the cultural and socio-economic framework of the U.S., helping shape this uniquely diverse nation. Dating back to 1968, Hispanic Heritage Week was first established under President Lyndon B. Johnson and later expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to 30 days spanning Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This timeframe is significant because many Latin American countries celebrate their independence from Spain within this period:

By aligning with these dates, National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the resilience and determination of Hispanic and Latin communities. It invites deep reflection on history and identity across all Hispanic and Latin American nations, acknowledging shared struggles for independence while celebrating the distinct ethnicities and cultures of each that thrive within the U.S.
UNIDOS, SOMOS MAS – TOGETHER, WE ARE MORE
Every year, the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) leads the process of selecting the annual theme and corresponding poster that federal agencies, organizations and schools use when observing National Hispanic Heritage Month. The 2026 theme is “UNIDOS, SOMOS MAS” or “TOGETHER, WE ARE MORE.” The official poster also states the following: “Celebrando nuestras familias, nuestra resiliencia, creatividad, fe y servicio. Honrando las diversas historias que fortalecen nuestra nación, invirtiendo en el futuro y creando una América más unida para todos.” “Celebrating family, resilience, creativity, faith and service. Honoring the diverse stories that strengthen our nation, investing in the future, building a stronger America for all.” Such themes and words help to inspire powerful sentiments of hope, belonging and pride within Hispanic and Latino American communities in the United States, but national observance also offers opportunities for all Americans to learn about and appreciate the richness of our interconnected legacy.
BUILDING A STRONGER TRUCKEE FOR ALL Through the Giving Fund, Tahoe Donner’s philanthropic arm, Tahoe Donner members support local students and nonprofit organizations making meaningful differences across the region. Over more than a decade, the Giving Fund has helped support: • 38 nonprofit organizations • 95 local scholarship recipients • $2.2 million invested in the greater Truckee community • Countless neighbors, families and young people across our region
La Fuerza Latina With the inherent challenges of living in a multi-ethnic and multilingual nation as immigrants or first-generation children, many Hispanics and Latinos face limiting circumstances in their pursuit of education and a higher quality of life. For high school students within these communities, barriers can be created by income, background, language and unequal access to educational resources. La Fuerza Latina, a local nonprofit founded by Truckee High School English Teacher Craig Rowe, is guided by the belief that “when the sun rises, it rises for everyone.” La Fuerza Latina’s mission and vision are to provide educational resources and

opportunities that reduce barriers, reinforce community and shared responsibility, celebrate potential and create future leaders. La Fuerza Latina works with low-income and first-generation scholars, providing individualized guidance, mentorship and longterm support as they pursue college and career opportunities. In just over ten years of operation, La Fuerza Latina has helped over 100 students and alumni from low-income backgrounds and achieved a 99% college graduation rate. Many of these students become active and engaged members of their communities, attending Town Council meetings, participating in local civic initiatives or serving on the Nevada County Youth Commission. Through internships and leadership roles, students translate their education into meaningful careers, community impact and mentorship that not only uplift the Hispanic and Latino communities but also strengthen and enhance Truckee’s viability and vibrancy. Giving Fund Chair Toni Moore says of La Fuerza Latina, “their work has been invaluable, not just for our Hispanic students, but for the entire Truckee Community, of which they are an integral part and eager to serve. It’s been a privilege for the Giving Fund to support La Fuerza Latina for the past several years. Cheers for Chuy Fernando Estrada-Rizo, also known by family and friends as “Chuy,” is an exceptional example of a young person giving back to his community. In 2020, Chuy was one of four students who received a $50,000 IMPACT Scholarship from the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund. Chuy graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2024 with a degree in Human Biology. Chuy’s personal background includes caring for a family member who has required a myriad of health interventions and ongoing support. This experience inspired Chuy to pursue a career as a Craig Rowe, center, with some of his La Fuerza Latina students.

Many of the Giving Fund’s funding and academic scholarship recipients embody the virtues of strength, perseverance, resiliency and unity celebrated every year during National Hispanic Heritage Month. He plans to attend graduate school in 2027 to obtain the education, experience and credentials to become a physician assistant. Chuy states, “I am eager to grow into a physician’s assistant who makes long-term and meaningful contributions to improving health outcomes for people of all backgrounds, but especially for underserved populations. Australia Dave Huggins and Sonya (Retzlaff) visited Australia, including a viewing of the Wildlife Warriors Show in the Crocoseum of the Australia Zoo that features exciting saltwater crocodile feedings. Run by Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin, the zoo focuses on conservation. Dave and Sonya also took in a view of Brisbane’s Historic Deery’s Story Bridge Hotel and Restaurant with good friends and owners Kathryn and Richie Deery.

Tanabe, Japan Yucheng Fan got the Dual Pilgrim Certificate at Hongu Taisha in Japan after finishing both the Camino de Santiago Portugal Way in Spain and Kumano Kudo in Japan – the only two world heritage pilgrimage routes in the world.

Truckee Fire Protection District Measure T Fund Presentation The board received a presentation from Truckee Fire Protection District (TFPD) staff on the Measure T fund priorities, projects and initiatives that benefit the broader Tahoe Truckee community and improve fire resilience and defensible space against wildfire threats. Q2 2026 Treasurer’s Report The board received the Q2 2026 Treasurer’s Report. Unaudited 2026 June Financial Report The board received a presentation on the unaudited 2026 June financial report, including the 2026 recovery plan. They asked clarifying questions and moved to accept the unaudited 2026 June financial report. Motion passed 5-0.
