hen we appreciate Tahoe Donner’s open spaces, it is easy to imagine we are seeing untrammeled nature. The historian and the ecologist know the truth: every square foot of Tahoe Donner’s 7,000-plus acres has been shaped and reshaped by a century and a half of human industry and activity. Consider Euer Valley. Beginning a few years after the Civil War, and continuing as recently as 2014, Euer Valley was home to a working cattle ranch. The valley also once hosted extensive timber operations, including a lumber mill and two narrowgauge rail lines at its east end. Last fall, I wrote about Tahoe Donner’s enduring relationship with the Truckee River Watershed Council, a local organization dedicated to protecting our regional watershed. That watershed encompasses an untold number of springs, meadows and wetlands, along with dozens of tributary streams and creeks feeding into the Truckee River, several of which originate in or flow through Tahoe Donner. Recognizing that Tahoe Donner and the Watershed Council have a shared interest in restoring and protecting our community’s natural environment, in 2024 the board directed staff to develop a formal long-term partnership agreement with the Watershed Council. I am proud to report that Tahoe Donner and the Watershed Council have now formed a 20-year recreation and restoration improvement partnership. Our first joint project will begin this summer with the Euer Valley Phase 1 Project on the western end of Tahoe Donner's Euer Valley property. In addition to restoring and protecting the South Fork of Prosser Creek and its surrounding wetlands, this project will provide a boardwalk and bridge at Coyote Crossing, ensuring safe and environmentally

responsible four-season recreational access within the valley. With construction anticipated to begin this summer, members should expect temporary trail and road closures around the project site. The total cost for Phase 1 is approximately $3.0 million. However, even before formalizing our partnership, Tahoe Donner had been working with the Watershed Council to secure more than $2.5 million in grant and public funding to support the project, reducing Tahoe Donner’s expenditure to less than $500,000. As the Phase 1 project name implies, this summer's work is only the first phase of what we envision as a multi-phase, multiyear project to enhance recreational access within Euer Valley and to restore the valley to its natural condition. To learn more about the Watershed Council and the critical work they do in the Truckee region, I hope to see you at one of the upcoming River Talks that Tahoe Donner is hosting for the Watershed Council on July 9 and October 8. In the future, we look forward to completing Euer Valley’s restoration and to undertaking other important projects in partnership with the Watershed Council. With the Watershed Council’s environmental expertise and their successful track record securing external funding, we could not ask for a better partner to help us fulfill our community’s stewardship responsibilities. Spring Into Summer Fun! Summer is nearly upon us, but Tahoe Donner is already buzzing with activity. With beautiful sunny skies and many amenities open, make the most of the shoulder season before summer programming is in full swing. The brand-new patio and bar at the Beach Club Marina is the place to be for lakeside lounging, featuring a fresh cocktail menu, fire pits and umbrellas for added comfort, and, as always, prime views of Donner Lake and the Sierra Nevada. Don’t miss the patio opening festivities June 14 and 15, with live music and drink specials from 3-5PM. Racket enthusiasts can hit the courts for a lively game of tennis or pickleball before the summer heat and crowds take over. Reserve your court in advance on courtreserve.com. It’s fair weather on the fairways at Tahoe Donner Golf Course. Think cool, gentle breezes and bluebird skies “fore” these early-season rounds. Then, enjoy a relaxing lunch and a refreshing drink afterwards on the patio at The Pavilion. The trails are calling, it’s time to go! Gear up at Bikeworks for all your two-wheel trail adventures. Offering a full selection of rental full-suspension and hard-tail

mountain bikes, ebikes and even traila-bikes for kids, get the whole family exploring the Tahoe Donner Trail System. Then, stop by Alder Creek Cafe for a great selection of grab-and-go options to enjoy on the patio or on the trails! Beginning June 18, thirsty adventurers can enjoy happy hour from 3-5PM daily at the Trailside Bar.

Kids can dive into all sorts of wet and wild fun at the Rec Center Rec Pool. Whether you’ve got a splisher, a splasher or a swim lapper, the Trout Creek Rec Center pools are open and inviting. Don’t miss the first Wibit Wednesday on June 25, from 5-7PM, featuring a floating water park and obstacle course!

The Pavilion at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub will be offering a full menu beginning June 13, with daily social hour from 3-5PM. Happy hour in The Pub continues through June 12 from 5-6PM, with $8 house wine and well cocktails, $7 draft beer and 25% off The Pub menu. It’s pizza night every night beginning midJune. Pizza on the Hill is moving to sevennight-a-week operations beginning Tuesday, June 17, from 4-8PM! KNOW YOUR EVACUATION ZONE In order to understand whether your area is under an evacuation warning or order, you need to know your Zone Name. Authorities will use Zone Names in emergency alerts, media releases and social media to notify residents what areas are under an evacuation warning or order. 1. Go to protect.genasys.com 2. Clubs 4-Wheelers Club

We did a historical mine scouting trip to Death Valley that pivoted due to all the closed roads. The road to the Skidoo Mine was closed, Titus Canyon was closed, and the last third of Cottonwood Canyon was closed. We instead took the opportunity to hike some of the many slot canyons, exploring Sidewinder Canyon, Golden Canyon, Mosaic Canyon and Marble Canyon. This visit to the park, we stayed 30 miles away in cooler Beatty, Nevada, as unlike Furnace Creek, the RV Park had hookups to run ACs. The other benefit of staying in Beatty is that the gas was $3.50/ gallon versus $6.19 in Furnace Creek, and there are friendly burros that like to visit. We had a wonderful time.

American Mah Jongg Club The Mah Jongg Club is moving to a new location and date for the summer! Thursday, May 29, was our last day at Pizza on the Hill. We are returning to our original Tuesday schedule, from 1–4PM. Our new location will be in the Tennis Lounge, the indoor room at the back of the Tennis + Pickleball Center. Men’s Golf Club And so it begins! The 2025 golf season is now underway, and it is not too late to join the club and get in on the action. Quilt Club We have already reached the month of the Summer Solstice, when the sun shines the longest of the year. Flowering gardens are everywhere: in colorful pots, window boxes or in nature, where our beautiful local wildflowers abound.

9-Holers Women’s Golf Club Having now completed our pre-season clinics, the Mental Game of Golf and Fitness for Golf, our next event is our orientation and pizza night on June 2 to kick off golf opening week. Opening day is expected to be Thursday, June 5. We follow that up with a New Golfers on Course clinic and regular afternoon play on June 10 and a Bunkers Clinic and twilight play on June 16, where you can bring a guest for evening golf and a potluck. 10

Boat Launch Policies

Shuttle Service

All motorized/trailered vessels launching on Donner Lake must first pass an invasive species inspection. Truckee Police Department offers a selfinspection option for boats that do not require decontamination. Learn more about the Watercraft Inspection Program at truckeepolice.gov/support-services/ watercraft-inspection-program. The boat launch is for Tahoe Donner members only. Vessels launched at Beach Club Marina must be registered with Tahoe Donner. Vessel registration, proof of insurance and a release of liability waiver are required. Check online for more information. You must have a minimum of two people to launch a vessel, with one observing the ramp and launch zone for pedestrians and other hazards. Everyone on board your vessel will be charged the Daily Access Fee.

A shuttle service from the Truckee High School parking lot to the Beach Club Marina will be provided during the summer. There is no pickup or drop off time – just constant loops. The shuttle cannot transport kayaks or stand-up paddleboards. Drop these items off at the marina before taking the shuttle. No pets are allowed at the marina or on the shuttle bus.

Parking The fenced parking lot at the Beach Club Marina will be for members only, enforced seven days a week. Members should be prepared to show a valid Member ID when parking in the lot.

Cardboard Regatta Saturday, Aug. 2 | 1PM Teams of two create boats out of cardboard and duct tape for this race to the buoy and back. Build boats in advance and bring them to the beach at 12PM. Race starts at 1PM.

From a quick fix to a custom build, experienced Bikeworks mechanics are ready for anything and can complete most repairs within 24 hours. Have an e-bike? Bikeworks can work on all of the mechanical parts of the bike – including building new bikes out of the box – but we do not offer any service on the electrical portions, such as head units, batteries, motors or wiring.

Tahoe Donner mountain bike camps are open to kids ages 10-14 who can ride a bike for 1.5 hours at a time. Tour de TD Saturday, July 12 | 9AM This event is for mountain bikers and hikers. Each participant tries to make it to as many checkpoints as possible while collecting colored wristbands at each one. Checkpoints will be spread throughout the Tahoe Donner Trail System. Maps indicating checkpoint locations will be handed out at 9AM at the Alder Creek Adventure Center (ACAC). Return to ACAC by 1PM and present your wristbands to earn your finisher’s medal. The Alder Creek Cafe will be open afterward for food and drinks so you can celebrate your adventure! It is the ultimate playground for hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers and equestrians to explore. There are many ways to enjoy and experience these easily accessible trails and many more ways to be directly involved in their care and maintenance by practicing trail etiquette and participating in stewardship days. Your Responsibilities

Yielding Etiquette

With thousands of users, horses and dogs, it is important that we all work together and observe basic trail rules and etiquette to keep the backcountry safe and enjoyable for everyone. Fostering a spirit of appreciation, compassion, stewardship and community is vital to ensuring its continued enjoyment. The next time you’re out on the trails, please keep the following in mind.

Expect to come across fellow recreationists each time you head out on the trails. Although common sense goes a long way when using busy routes, all trail users should observe the following yield etiquette. Adaptive trail management practices limit certain user groups to designated trails. Only access designated trails as part of the appropriate group and follow all other yielding etiquette.

Share the Trail Tahoe Donner trails are designed and maintained for various users and some are for specific user groups. Please respect all signage indicating designated groups, and expect to see all user types and abilities on trails.

Engage With Your Surroundings Stay present and be prepared for wildlife encounters, changing weather and unexpected trail conditions.

Uphill Traffic Has Right of Way Horseback Riders Have Right of Way Equestrian traffic has the right of way, but riders should be prepared for inexperienced trail users who are unfamiliar with how to act around horses. Horseback riders should avoid high-traffic and multi-use trails whenever possible.

Hikers + Trail Runners Must Yield for Horseback Riders

Follow yielding rules, safe speeds and “Leave No Trace” practices.

If you encounter a horse, foot traffic should step to the downhill side of the trail to let horses pass. Always announce your presence when approaching those on horseback to avoid scaring the animals.

Observe Trail Etiquette

Kindly communicate with other trail users, especially when approaching from behind. Negotiate safe passes.

Manage Your Animal Whether it’s a dog or horse, you have a responsibility to the animal and other trail users to maintain control at all times. Dog owners must pick up after their pet and dispose of waste in a trash can; leaving dog waste bags on trails is littering!

Respect Our Neighbors Stay on Tahoe Donner property at all times. Property boundaries are posted; please observe them.

Reduce Impacts Only use designated trails. Cutting switchbacks, taking shortcuts or creating new trails is damaging to fragile ecosystems. Stay off muddy trails; letting them dry before use keeps them narrow and helps reduce erosion.

If you encounter a horse, bikers should stop, get off bikes and step to the downhill side of the trail to let horses or hikers pass. Always announce your presence when approaching people and horses on the trail. Note: Class 1 electric bicycles (e-bikes) are allowed on any trails designated for bicycle use. Class 2 and 3 e-bikes and electric OneWheel devices are prohibited on all trails and service access roads.

Dogs Yield to All Trail Users Dogs must be on leash at all Tahoe Donner amenities and common areas, including parking lots and streets, as well as on the Nature Loop, East Perimeter Trail, Alder Creek Trail and Hillside Trail. Dogs under voice control are permitted off leash on Tahoe Donner trails, except for those specified above. Do not let dogs approach others and keep them out of sensitive areas. Please pick up after your pet.

CELEBRATES A DECADE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT As a first-generation Latina, Victoria is grateful to be able to inspire others and open doors to new experiences, excellent education and big dreams for herself and her community. “I love that I get to show the Hispanic community back home that we are capable of so much more — there’s no telling how far we can go.”

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF GIVING

MEET VICTORIA, 2025 GRADUATE IMPACT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT “It opened a whole new set of doors for me,” Victoria said of being awarded the IMPACT Scholarship from the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund in 2021. “It opened a big new door to the world of private school for me, and it opened up a doorway for my community, showing all of us that we can go for bigger things.” This May, she graduated from Dominican University with a degree in education and will continue into her fifth year to earn her master’s degree. When she began the college application process, Victoria expected to attend a community college first and help her parents pay for it by working. She never considered the possibility of going to a private school until she learned about the IMPACT Scholarship. With her mom’s encouragement, she gave that application her best shot and succeeded beyond her expectations. Now, Victoria is on track to achieve her dream of teaching special education, or SPED. Victoria will have the education and ability to differentiate instruction for her students, who will have a variety of special needs, and provide them with strategies for learning, motivation and participation. “Without the support of the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund’s IMPACT Scholarship, I would not have had the option to attend Dominican and earn these degrees. I am really happy, and so grateful for this opportunity.” Dominican’s study abroad program in Spain was memorable for Victoria, where, in addition to her SPED curriculum, her worldview expanded. “I made so many friends, experiencing the different food, culture and music. My younger sister was the brave one who was the first in our family to study abroad, and her experience inspired me to look into a similar program through Dominican.” 36

Celebrating our 10th Anniversary is a special occasion for the volunteers of the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund Committee. It’s an opportunity to tell the stories of the local students who have been awarded scholarships, and the local nonprofits who have been awarded grants. It’s a time to say “well done” to the philanthropic foresight of the Giving Fund’s founders and the continuing financial support of Tahoe Donner members. And it’s well worth expressing “thank you, thank you, thank you” to the Tahoe Donner members who have provided the financial gifts that made the past ten years of philanthropy possible. Our committee’s mission is to inspire generosity and charitable giving among Tahoe Donner members in order to support deserving programs and youth in the greater Truckee community. During our first decade, the Giving Fund awarded $1,490,000 in local scholarships and $400,000 in local nonprofit grants, for a total of $1,890,000 in community support. In some ways, that’s a lot, but in other ways, it’s not. So many needs remain in our local area, so maintaining and accelerating our fundraising momentum is mission-critical. Capital and Financial Policies Update Initiative The board of directors and Finance Committee reviewed and provided feedback on the proposed Capital and Financial policies updates, focusing on the following:

Truckee River Watershed Council (TRWC) and Tahoe Donner Association (TDA) Recreation and Restoration Improvement Partnership Agreements The board received proposed partnership agreements with TRWC. The board motioned to approve the Administration Resolution 2025 – 3, which authorizes the General Manager, on behalf of the Tahoe Donner Association, to execute the partnership agreements. Motion passed 5-0.

Wildfire Preparedness Campaign Introduction The board received a presentation on the 2025 Wildfire Preparedness Campaign as information.

Koenes mentioned the prevalent topic of insurance. Architectural Standards (ASC) Siding Rule Change The board received proposed changes to the Siding Rule. The Architectural Standards Committee was asked to consider board feedback and present alternatives at the next regular board meeting.

2025 Board of Directors Election: Election by Acclamation The Inspector of Elections presented the board with reasons and recommendations for declaring an Election by Acclamation. The board motioned to declare Benjamin Levine and Jay Wertheim elected by acclamation in Tahoe Donner’s 2025 Board of Directors Election. Motion passed 4-0 (Levine excused). Management Update The board received the following updates from management as information: • Downhill Ski Lodge Update • New Member Orientation Program Capital and Financial Policies Update Initiative The board of directors and the Finance Committee discussed the proposed draft updates to Tahoe Donner’s capital and financial policies, focusing on the Operating Fund Policy and follow-up from the April 21, 2025, Special Board meeting.
