11054NAT Certificate II in Plumbing Services The Industry School Course Description Build the basic skills and knowledge you need to start your plumbing career. This entry-level course will put you on the path to gaining an apprenticeship in plumbing. In this course you will be given the practical skills and knowledge to use hand and power tools, carry out welding, read and interpret plans, and calculate quantities and other measurements. You will learn about working safely and effectively in the workplace and how to adhere to the industry's regulations and standards. This course has mandatory vocational placement, which means you will, attend 80 hours of vocational placement with a business. Successful completion of this course will give you the confidence to seek an apprenticeship in general plumbing or roof plumbing. You may also seek employment as a trade assistant. This program is offered to Year 10/11/12 students currently enrolled in and attending a State, Private or Independent School in Queensland. If you hold a current White card and or current first aid certificate please bring your Statement of Attainment on the first day Students must undertake 80 hours of mandatory vocational placement
Mandatory Information session Compulsory attendance by prospective students and parents/guardians, to information sessions conducted by TAFE Queensland. These sessions provide the opportunity to meet with educators and promote a better understanding of course requirements and vocational placement.
Vocational Placement (VPC) Vocational placement is a mandatory part of this course and provides students with an opportunity to further their learning whilst undertaking tasks relevant to their studies. Vocational placement can also help form careerbuilding relationships. Students must undertake a minimum of 80 hours vocational placement. More information will be provided to you during a mandatory information session before course commencement and again in the first few weeks of the course. Resources Required Under Workplace Health and Safety legislation students are legally required to wear appropriate protective clothing in class and around the Trades area at all times. You will need to have the following: • • • • • • • •
100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing – long sleeved shirts and pants Steel capped safety work boots, required from the first day. Safety glasses Stationery such as pens, pencils, notebooks and erasers. 4GB USB (minimum) Calculator Measuring tape Note: No Singlets can be worn to any of the classes.
If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Course Funding This program is a VET in School (VETiS) funded program so there is no cost to eligible students. The VET investment budget provides funding for students to complete one VETiS qualification listed on the Priority Skills List while attending a Queensland secondary school. Qualifications are primarily at certificate I and II level and are those that have been identified by industry as leading to employment. Prior to enrolment, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast checks all student eligibility for VETiS funding. If it is deemed that a student has previously used their VETiS funding they will be contacted and offered a position with the full fee for service price.
