ACM20121 Certificate II in Animal Care
Course Description
Kick start your career in the animal care industry with this entry-level course. This qualification will qualify you to provide care for animals in kennels, catteries, animal shelters, sanctuaries and veterinary clinics.
This course will give you an introduction to the animal care industry and teach you how to conduct animal care work practices in an ethical and humane manner. Learn how to complete animal care hygiene routines, feed and water animals, provide basic first aid, and assist in the health care of animals.
You'll also gain essential workplace skills in effective workplace communication, workplace health and safety, and environmentally sustainable work practices.
Successful completion of this course will qualify you to seek work as an assistant dog groomer, veterinary assistant or animal shelter attendant. You'll also be well positioned to continue with further studies in this area.
Use this course to pathway to higher qualifications in veterinary nursing.

This program is offered via face to face delivery for 4 Terms at the Ashmore campus.

First Day: Students to meet in the courtyard outside cafeteria A block on Ground Level, please see campus map.
Students may also be required to attend the Animal Welfare League at Coombabah to complete assessment tasks. These dates will be communicated with the students at orientation.
Selection Criteria
• This program is offered to year 10 and 11 students currently enrolled in and attending State, Private or Independent. School in Queensland.
Resources Required
Under Workplace Health and Safety legislation students are legally required to wear appropriate clothing in class and around the Trades area at all times.
You will need to have the following:
• Stationery such as pens, pencils, notebook and eraser.
• Students are required to purchase a black and blue polo shirt (with TAFE logo on it), for approximately $50.00. (Information and order forms will be handed out at Orientation).
• Students need to wear black protective waterproof work shoes and long, black, work pants/ trousers for practical days.
• Access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.
Note: This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations if you do not have access to it.

Work Experience
Work experience is an important part of this course and provides students with an opportunity to further their learning whilst undertaking tasks relevant to their studies. Work experience can also help form career building relationships. Practical days are included and further information will be provided at orientation.
Course Funding
This program is a VET in School (VETiS) funded program so there is no cost to eligible students.
What is VET in School (VETiS) funding?
The VET investment budget provides funding for students to complete one VETiS qualification listed on the Priority Skills List while attending a Queensland secondary school (in Years 10, 11 and 12).
Qualifications are primarily at certificate I and II level and are those that have been identified by industry as leading to employment.
Prior to enrolment, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast checks all student eligibility for VETiS funding. If it is deemed that a student has previously used their VETiS funding they will be contacted and offered a position with the full fee for service price.
