Career Taster Hospitality and Tourism
Program Description
This introductory program offers hands-on experience in Cookery, Hospitality, Tourism, and Events at the TAFE Queensland Robina campus.
This program will help you discover areas you are passionate about, identify fields that suit your interests, and build skills to strengthen your workplace knowledge. Learners begin with orientation, WHS, sustainability, and facility familiarisation.
Then, over the following weeks, develop practical skills in cookery, customer service, tourism, events, and hospitality. Participants will have opportunities to hear from industry guest speakers, to participate in a teaching team Q&A, and to take a potential local hotel tour.

Eligibility Criteria
To take part in the Career Taster program you must be 15 to 17 years old and either:
Be a Year 10 student currently enrolled in a mainstream Queensland school, or
Be enrolled in a Special Assistance School, or
Be disengaged from school.
Resources Required
• Black polo shirt or TAFE branded polo.
• Black long pants
• Enclosed non-slip shoes
• BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) to encourage collaborative learning and take advantage of the interactive learning environments at Robina Campus

Parking and Public Transport
• Visitor parking is available under the building on levels B1 and B2. Please note that parking spaces allocated to TAFE Queensland are clearly signed. Parking is available for pre-registered students.
• Short-term parking and drop-off are available via Laver Drive.
• The campus is located within walking distance of the Robina train station and many local bus stops.
• Cycling is a cost-effective option to get to class with best-practice end-of-trip facilities to encourage cycling to campus with secure bike storage.
Program Funding
The Career Taster Program is fully funded by the Queensland Government and is offered at no cost to eligible Year 10 students. It is also important to note that this program does not use any of your VET in Schools (VETiS) funding entitlement.
