National Reconciliation Week In This Issue: National Reconciliation Week World Enviroment Day
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) was celebrated at Tabor Adelaide on the 20th to the 24th of May. NRW commemorates three significant milestones in the journey to reconciliation, the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum, the High Court Mabo decision and Kevin Rudd’s apology to the stolen generation.

This year’s theme was, ‘Let’s Talk Recognition’ focusing on promoting unity and how Australian’s can better recognise one another’s cultural background.

On Thursday the 23rd of May, Tabor Adelaide held a special Chapel Service and a free lunch featuring an open fire, marshmallow toasting, kangaroo and beef sausages with lemon myrtle tea. It was a day to reflect on the importance of recognition and the impact it has on the Indigenous population. Overall, NRW at Tabor Adelaide was a great opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions made by all Australians in our community.
02 | Liberamenté. “freely, with liberty” World Environment Day On Wednesday the 5th of June it was World Environment Day! CreationCare@Tabor (Tabor Adelaide Environmental Sustainability Committee) held a ‘Sustainable Lunch’. The aim of the day was to raise awareness to take positive environmental action. This year’s World Environment Day theme is food waste. 1/3 of all food produced around the world is being wasted or lost. Therefore, staff and students at Tabor Adelaide were encouraged to bring in a sustainable, ethical plate of food to share on the day. Tabor chef extraordinaire Mike fired up his barbecue and cooked pancakes and vegetable delights. Do something good for the environment; reduce food waste as it saves on water, land use and emissions! Reducing Food Waste is good for people, the planet and your pocket. So think before you eat and help save our environment – Think, Eat, Save, it’s that easy!
Teacher Education - Home Economics Tuesday, 28th May 2013 was the inaugural Regional Foods Formal Dinner hosted by the Teacher Education Food & Hospitality and Food Technology students at Tabor Adelaide. Guests, including students’ family and friends and the Teacher Education staff, were treated to a formal dining atmosphere with black-and-white theme being the; decorated tables with specially prepared name cards, menus and goodie bags. Students from the two subjects prepared, cooked, set up and served a memorable four-course, restaurant-quality dinner made specifically from South Australian produce. The home economics (food) subjects prepare Tabor Teacher Education (Secondary studies) students to be future Home Economics teachers, to teach and empower their future students. The skills and knowledge gained through these classes will help students make informed choices in their own food selection, as well as in future careers in the food and hospitality industry. Senior Lecturer, Tracey Tyczenko, praised her students for their dedication, hard work and commitment in preparing and successfully running this special occasion. Tabor Adelaide applauds Tracey for her amazing energy and skill in guiding students to plan, prepare and host such a lovely event.
03 | Liberamenté. “freely, with liberty” South Australian Living Artist Festival Tabor Adelaide is proud to announce its participation in the 2013 SALA Festival on Tuesday the 2nd to Wednesday the 24th August 2013. It is a 24-day celebration to promote and celebrate the many talented Visual artists in South Australia. Visit Tabor Adelaide during the SALA Festive season, where we will be showcasing South Australia’s visual artists’ talent and creativity. You will be able to discover emerging artists, established artists, visual art, sculptures, ceramics, photography, mixed media and much more. Make time this year to get out and into the heart of South Australia’s visual arts. Tabor Adelaide will be open Monday – Friday, 9-5pm from Tuesday August 2nd to Wednesday August 24. With free admission, help Tabor celebrate the love of local talent and the love of art.
Congratulations Lara Cooper, a Bachelor of Intercultural Studies student, recently won first prize at the Kernewek Lowender Art Prize in Kadina, Yorke Peninsula. Lara felt honored to win first prize and said, “With lots of great artwork on show it could be anybody’s game. It was a real privilege to also have the work then acquired for the permanent collection of Kernewek Lowender. I am very honored and one happy chicken!” Congratulations and well done from the staff and Students at Tabor Adelaide. Lara Cooper’s work will be exhibited at Tabor Adelaide during the SALA festival.
Marketing Department The Marketing department at Tabor Adelaide have been busy talking to future students at various schools and career expo events. Sue Giocobbe and Saskia Davidson have been talking to school leavers, mature age students and postgraduates who are interested in starting, changing or upgrading their careers. Sue and Saskia have enjoyed meeting people to discuss the unique career pathways Tabor Adelaide has to offer in VET and tertiary studies. Furthermore, it has given punters the opportunity to ask questions about Tabor Adelaide, enrolment procedures, specific course information and study options available.
