Tony Campolo, from Eastern University and world renowned speaker, visited Tabor Adelaide on Friday 14 June. He spoke in the afternoon to staff and in the evening to four hundred at the City Salvos. Throughout the day people were left in no doubt as to his passion, ability to confront the real issues and sense of humor. In his evening address he shared stories and opened up the beatitudes to inspire followers of Christ to live a prophetic, radical, surrendered life and addressed the challenges of living these out in our modern world. In doing so he was not afraid to admit his own failings and struggles. He spoke of how, every morning, he focuses on Jesus and throughout each day tries to turn faith into action and make a difference in the world. Tony Campolo’s visit was an inspiration to many!

02 | Liberamenté. “freely, with liberty” Pastors Conference A two day Pastors Conference is being conducted by Rev Pro David Wilkinson. From Dawkins to Hitchens, the new atheists present both a challenge and opportunity for the Christian faith. David Wilkinson will review the main attacks, develop how Christian apologetics can not only respond but regain the initiative, and suggest practical ideas for pastors to enable and equip local churches. David is the Principal of St John’s College, Durham University. Before joining Durham he completed a PhD in theoretical astrophysics and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. He has had a long interest in the dialogue of science and religion, especially as it impacts the physical sciences, and his current work involves the relationship of Christian theology to contemporary culture and its implications for reaching, missiology and apologetics. When: Thursday 25th July & Friday 26th July at Tabor Adelaide Cost: $100 or $60 per day, including lunch and refreshments. To register contact Sam Docherty on 08 8373 8777 or email: sdocherty@adelaide.tabor.edu.au
World Environment Day Wednesday June 5 was World Environment Day which was celebrated at Tabor Adelaide. Organisers of the event, CreationCare@Tabor (Tabor Adelaide Environmental Sustainability Committee) are to be congratulated on a successful event on raising awareness of the need to take a positive environmental action. There was a variety of food ranging from cheese pancakes; vegetable skewers, cakes and rhubarb crumble which were shared amongst the staff and the students. As everyone was hungry and the food was so yummy – there was minimal food waste which supported this year’s World Environment Day theme of Food Waste. This year’s theme of Food Waste was important to promote as 1/3 of all food produced around the world is being wasted or lost. Reducing food waste saves on water, land use and emissions. Not only that, it also good for your pocket. So think before you eat and help save our environment – Think, Eat, Save, it’s that easy!
03 | Liberamenté. “freely, with liberty” Perfectionism • Do you like deadlines? Is it the whooshing sound they make as they go flying past. • Do you procrastinate and do absolutely everything else except the one thing you are supposed to do? • Are you paralysed into a state of inaction when you are trying something new? It could be that you are a perfectionist or at least have perfectionist tendencies (let’s not be too quick to label). Andrew Ford is a Youth Work Lecturer at Tabor and a Qualified Life Coach. He has over 10 years experience of working with young people and students helping them to make positive changes in their lives. One of his passions is Positive Psychology and he will begin his Masters in Applied Positive Psychology later this year. He is also a recovering ‘Perfectionist’ and an aspiring ‘Good Enoughist’. Wednesday 24th July, 2013 9:30am - 12:30pm, Room 3 Book your seat: aford@adelaide.tabor.edu.au In Breaking the Power of Perfectionism we will explore the concept of perfectionism, clearly defining what it means and understanding the thinking behind it. We will look at the traits of perfectionism, the consequences of continuing in it and discover what it could be costing you in life. This will be a very practical workshop with plenty of exercises and a chance to learn from each other’s experiences. There will be many opportunities to pick up tips and tools to help you begin your journey beyond perfectionism. This is available to all current students and Alumni, benefiting not just your study life, but the whole of life.
