Our bulls are not pushed to maximize yearling data. Instead they are managed to grow out over winter so as to provide a bull that will give you multiple years in the breeding field.

Due to our 6th year of drought in this area we had to get creative in our feeding regime. The bulls were fed a mix of dry hay, slough hay and kochia. We topped off their daily ration with approx. 15# of Masterfeeds Target Pellet. We feel the bulls are in very sound breeding condition and ready for action!

We have made every effort to provide you, our customer, with the best bull for your money. We calve on the range, in April and May. This provides a 2 year old bull that will cover more cows and save you money. We also have a fall program where we calve from Sept 1 to Oct 15. These bulls are basically big January yearlings and provide another age option.

No bulls are sold before the sale so you’re picking from the entire calf crop. Due to their age, these bulls have gone through extra rounds of culling to ensure that they are as problem free as possible.

The JYF aged bulls are designed with you in mind. It is extremely important to us that you get the best bull to meet your requirements. We will assist in any way we can, including at the auction. If you are not totally satisfied with your selection, you will not own him

Management Rating

We have been chute scoring docility at weaning since the system came out. We have found it useful, but that it did not adequately describe a bull’s demeanor at sale time.

Bulls change as they get older and their testosterone levels increase. We see differences when working them to measure Yearling data, as well as sale preparation activities like picturing and video. In an effort to better describe a bull’s disposition before they find out what they are made for; we have come up with the JYF Management Rating.

We have scored them multiple times, on our own and talked about the scores together. We assure you that we have taken every opportunity along the way to weed out a potential problem bull. This rating is simply another way to differentiate one bull from another.

1 - Petable without halter breaking.

2 - Easily handled no matter the situation.

3 - Easy going. Very easily halter broke.

4 - Quieter than average, but slightly restless and maybe stubborn during processing.

5 - Typical temperament. Manageable but nervous and impatient. Exits chute briskly.

6 - Restless and always moving away in the pen.

7 - Easily managed with other cattle, not so easily alone.

8 - Heads up with a big flight zone. Seems to be the first to run.

9 - May exhibit attack behavior when handled alone.

10 - Always very aggressive, pronounced attack behavior.

Herd Health Program

PRIOR TO BREEDING - All cows and bulls are vaccinated with modified-live vaccine for: IBR, BVD (types 1 &2) PI3, BRSV.

Calves are vaccinated with modified-live vaccine for: IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia.

PRIOR TO WEANING – All calves vaccinated (boostered) with modified-live vaccines for: IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia. Bulls, cows and calves treated with pour-on parasite control.

PRIOR TO SALE - All bulls are semen tested and given the first treatment of Fusogard. All cows are tested for Johne’s disease. We have a zero tolerance policy for positive tests. These animals and their offspring are removed from the breeding herd to ensure the future health of your herd.

Mentor has been admired by astute cattlemen from Agribition to the Denver Stock Show for his amazing natural softness and depth of body. Combine that with his free and easy movement and you have a herdsire that is going to leave his mark on the breed. Mentor has a 106 ribeye ratio combined with a 136 marbling ratio. He has an above average scrotal that measured 43cm at the Denver Stock Show in January.

Mentor’s dam was purchased in the last Pinnacle View Female Sale. She has had 4 calves in a row and sports a milk EPD of +35. JYF reserves the right for owner’s use semen at the new buyer’s convenience.

Grey Wolf is a natural calf out of Jed’s mother 306D. She is a Wulfs Zephyr daughter that consistently has calves that start small and get stout. Jackson is a deep bodied black bull purchased by Ryan and Beth Hofer that we will keep using in our program. Grey wolf has a ribeye ratio of 105 with a marbling ratio of 119. He is an excellent choice to add muscle and keep females from. His excellent disposition makes him a visitor favorite.

Sire - JYF Jackson 513J
201 as Calf with Jennings

Masterplan is a straight topped performance bull. He is thick from end to end. His dam Augusta has landed 3 bulls in our Denver pens over the years plus Masterplan this year to give her 4.

Maestro is a bull that can correct a lot of foot issues. He walks on almost perfect foot structure. He will add some bone as well. His dam comes from Highland Stock Farms and has been crowned Grand Champion Female at CWA. Jackson walks the pastures for Ryan & Beth Hofer.

Maestro has a very calm demeanor and is a pleasure to worth with.

Meatman is out of another heavy milking JYF Chunk female. His excellent muscle shape got him into our Denver pen this year. He should sire some progeny of either sex that will excel in the most discriminating program.

Sculpting History Sculpting History

Withgrit,precisionandabarn-fullofinspiration, SaskatchewanartistShayKellerbringsanewrodeoeratolifewith Calgary Stampede’s first-ever breakaway roping bronze.

STORYBYKRISTENSUBLETTE

Shay Keller had wrapped up his run of bronze trophies in 2024 for the Calgary Stampede until a surprise call came in the spring of 2025. But the request wasn’t for another steer wrestling or tie-down roping bronze. They needed something new: a first-ever trophy for the debut of breakaway roping at one of rodeo’s most prestigious events.

Since 1930, the Calgary Stampede has awarded bronze sculptures to rodeo and chuchvagon champions. These coveted trophies are more than prizes; they’re symbols of excel1ence and tradition in the Western arena. In 1972, the Stampede introduced an artist competition to select bronze creators for five year terms.

Now, more than 50 years later, that legacy continues with a groundbreaking addition: breakaway roping

has officially joined the ranks. With its meteoric rise in popularity, brcakmvay roping was long overdue for recognition at one of the sport’s most respected rodeos. Calgary knew it needed a new bronze to honor this powerful moment, and they knevv exactly who to call. Shay Keller, of Rockglen, Saskatchewan, Canada, has spent the last 14 years perfecting his craft. He’s always been drawn to creativity, sketching throughout his school years.

But his life changed forever during college when he donated a pencil drawing to a fundraiser. That piece caught the eye of renowned sculptor Bob Burkhart, who invited Keller to study sculpture atone of his clinics in Bozeman, Montana.

ABOVE: Keller’s cloy model takes shape for the Calgary Stampede’s bronze trophy.

Keller jumped at the chance. Under Burkharter’s and Jeff Wolf’s guidance, Keller learned the intricacies, of bronze sculpture, from skeleton construction to clay sculpting and final casting. For years, Keller worked at his craft, bringing his visions to life with borrowed tools and mentorship. As his skills grew, so did his independence.

Eventually, he bought all his own equipment, even fabricating some of his tools by hand.

Those early days weren’t always glamorous, but Keller persevered.

“I think as an artist, that’s one of the hardest things, as you’re building your skill, you hate everything you do, and you’re like, ‘Wow, this is terrible. Am I ever going to get better at this?’” Keller says. Keller remained dedicated and has grown exponentially

because of his grit. His deep connection to rodeo sets his work apart.

A tie-down roper himself, he brings a rider’s eye to every detail.

In 2018, he entered the Calgary Stampede artist competition - and won. His bronze tie-down roping and steer wrestling sculptures were chosen, an honor that came with a five-year contract.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted Calgary’s schedule, Keller’s bronzes were used for six years instead.

That sixth year, 2024, marked what Keller believed would be the end of his Stampede run. Then came the call that changed everything.

In spring 2025, a representative of the Calgary Stampede caped to ask if Keller would create their

first-ever breakaway roping bronze. “I was happy they thought of me for it,” Keller says. Breakaway roping has surged in popularity nationwide, and Calgary’s decision to include it in this year’s rodeo, complete with equal payout, signals a major milestone.

But with the addition came the need for a new symbol of excellence.

Calgary had a clear vision for the piece and knew Keller had the skill and authenticity to deliver.

Creating a bronze of this caliber isn’t fast or easy.

Keller begins With concept sketches and client approvals before building a plaster model.

From there, he makes a mold, often the most timeconsuming step, cuts it into multiple sections, pours in wax layer by layer and builds up the form.

Heat removes the wax, and Keller pours molten bronze into the hollow mold. After cooling, he breaks open the cast to reveal the sculpture inside.

Once the rnw bronze is out, Keller grinds, polishes and welds the final piece together - animal, rider and gl’Ound, all crafted separately for anatomical accuracy.

Keller is known for his nttcntion to detail, particularly in the movement and musculatme of his animal subjects.

His background as a competitor helps him sculpt pieces that resonate with rodeo athletes.

For the breakaway bronze, Keller took things a step further, literally bringing the sculpture into the barn.

He tied up his own horses and studied their expressions, proportions and stance, working for hours to get every detail right.

He even restarted the piece twice.

Calgary had very specific points they wanted Keller to capture in this bronze, like the rope breakingoffthesaddle horn. Working on a tightdeadline, Kellerwas grateful to have his own tools and equipment.

“I guess it’s kind of boastful, but it is the best I’ve ever done so far” Keller says. Keller poured himselfinto this project emotionally, artistically and physically.

As breakaway roping continues to grow, so does the need to honor its athletes with the same reverence as any other rodeo event.

Thanks to Keller’s sculpture, the Calgary Stampede now has a trophy that meets the moment.

For Keller, it’s more than bronze; it’s about capturing a story, honoring the sport and leaving something permanent in a world that rarely stands still.
