The Sydney Fringe Festival acknowledges the many First Nations People throughout Australia and those who come to us from across the oceans. We are guided by the caretakers of Country, and the footprints they have left behind. Every September, Sydney becomes a city that says yes.

Yes to the artist with a strange idea and the nerve to stage it. Yes to the show in the back room of a pub, the warehouse, the converted shopfront, the room you’ve walked past a hundred times. Yes to audiences who’d rather be surprised than told what they already know.

It starts in late August, when our Festival Garden throws open its gates, and on 29 August when Stanley Street becomes one big opening night party. It carries us through September and rolls on into the October school holidays with two weeks of Fringe Kids.

This year we have over 400 events across 64 venues. Curious shows in curious rooms, from jaw-dropping circus and acrobatics in the Festival Garden to powerful First Nations work staged right across the Festival and all at a price that won’t make you think twice.

Because that’s the promise of Fringe. Take a punt on something you’ve never heard of, in a venue you didn’t know existed, and watch your curiosity pay off. It always does here.

The Sydney Fringe is NSW’s largest independent arts festival, and every event on the program is here because an artist backed themselves and made something new. That spirit of independence is the whole point: Fringe is where careers begin, where forms get bent, and where the work that doesn’t fit anywhere else finally finds a room and an audience.

In a year when making art independently has rarely been harder, this Festival is our loud and unmissable argument that this work matters and that the artists who make it deserve real backing. But an argument needs an audience. So this is also our invitation to you, Sydney: pull up a chair, take a risk, and be part of it. The best nights this city has only truly happen when you’re in the room.

Can’t make a performance date anymore? We have you covered. Log in to your Sydney Fringe Festival account online, or via the app, and you can exchange your tickets to a new performance date of the same show.

Fees

A Booking Fee of $4.60 per booking applies to all transactions made over the phone, in person, or via the Sydney Fringe website or app.

Events ticketed by external parties, including Fringe Comedy events at the Factory Theatre, and events at the Old Fitz Theatre, will incur different fees.

Sydney Fringe Festival’s Official Opening Party

We’re kicking things off with a bang and throwing a free street party on the iconic Stanley Street in Darlinghurst. Expect live music, comedy, circus, dance, roaming performers, great food, and the unmistakable feeling that the city just came alive.

In the afternoon, families can relish in the all-ages entertainment on the Fringe Ignite stage, from heart-racing stunts to friendly dinosaurs and all the wild and wonderful performances in between!

Then when the sun goes down, the Fringe stage heats up with daring acrobatics, sultry burlesque and dazzling cabaret. Come and get a taste of everything Sydney Fringe Festival has to offer.

FIRST NATIONS AT FRINGE

Yalgali is where connection to Country takes centre stage, and First Peoples’ stories are under the spotlight.

Since its inception, Yalgali has served as our dedicated First Nations program, celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytelling through performances, gathering and community.

Yalgali is where you can discover works by artists whose connection to the land, water and skies of this beautiful country extends back into time immemorial.

But behind the mesmerising performances is something much bigger: a commitment to creating a festival that welcomes and walks alongside First Nations people, embedding wisdom in each step of the journey.

Yalgali is the result of a many-year journey of deep listening; to community, to consultants and to Country herself.

Our guiding principle was to move at the speed of trust.

From this, we launched Yalgali in 2024, where it found a home at PACT, becoming a vibrant Hub where audiences could experience new First Nations work and artists could connect with each other.

In 2026, Yalgali is evolving, with First Nations artists featuring across the festival program on some of Sydney’s most iconic stages. This festival-wide program is in response to an enthusiastic call from community to expand into multiple spaces.

First Nations Coordinator Erica Brennan, and First Nations Community Liaison Peta-Joy (PJ) Williams, are a key part of Yalgali’s ongoing story. Together, these women channel their skills in artmaking, event creation, and community championing to ensure Sydney Fringe is a welcoming and invigorating festival space. One that ensures First Nations artists and audiences can dream big and be their Fringiest.

“Whatever you want to make, however you want to make it, we want to help you!” Erica often finds herself saying to artists when she is explaining why Fringe might be for them. “That’s always what Fringe has done.”

The work also extends far beyond festival season.

The goal of Yalgali isn’t simply to present First Nations work. It’s to create an environment where communities see themselves in every aspect of Fringe, including as suppliers, brands and partners.

PJ highlights the importance of communities feeling welcome, commenting that “when mob come into a venue and see a brand they recognise, it helps mob feel welcome and that Fringe is a safe space”

Through Yalgali, it is also important that we continue to extend a warm hand of welcome to future First Nations audiences and collaborators.

YALGALI ALL MONTH LONG

Dedicated initiatives like Deadly Tix, which provides discounted tickets for First Nations audiences, and Friends of Fringe, offering free access to all Sydney Fringe shows for First Nations artists of any discipline*, allow us to do this in a tangible way.

Erica and PJ highlight how programs like Friends of Fringe and Yalgali’s annual Open Mic Night; a low-fi, low-risk scratch performance night, create pathways into the Festival and beyond.

What begins as an experiment can often become something bigger, with Erica and PJ commenting that “artists who have participated in past Open Mic Nights have returned to Fringe the following year to present their work in the program.

The trust that is built in the low-fi space pays massively when an artist takes the next risk in their career.”

For PJ, who joined the festival team as an Artist in Residence and now continues to work as a Community Liaison, her deep roots within the community allow her to see the program’s impact firsthand. Those moments are a reminder of why the work matters. First Nations artists are now finding their own way to Fringe through the festival’s open-access model. It’s a sign that trust is growing, and First Nations artists see Fringe as a place where they can flourish.

This year’s Yalgali program is our biggest yet; big stories, deep belly laughs, old knowledge imagining new futures. Come join, you’ll find us all across the city!

Limitless exists to champion access and creativity. What began as a single Hub has grown into a curated program spanning multiple venues across the city, bringing the work of d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent artists to audiences all month long.

Expect a wildly varied line-up spanning theatre, cabaret, comedy and more. Limitless has always been about access and creativity going hand in hand. Work made by and for d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent communities, without compromise on ambition. Spreading the program across venues this year means more of Sydney gets to experience that work on its own doorstep, all month long.

Introducing the Fringe Reviewer Lab.

This September, we’re shining a light on the people who help shape how we talk about independent art: the critics.

In partnership with ArtsHub, one of Australia’s leading arts media platforms, we’re proud to launch the inaugural Fringe Reviewer Lab, a professional development program for ten emerging arts writers at the start of their criticism journey.

Arts criticism in this country depends on writers being given a genuine first opportunity, and those opportunities are increasingly hard to come by. This is why Fringe Reviewer Lab was created.

Across September, our reviewers will cover a variety of Fringe shows, bringing fresh, independent perspectives to the work our artists have poured themselves into.

Their reviews will be published on Fringe Feed, our dedicated media webpage on the Fringe site, with select pieces also published on ArtsHub.

We’re delighted to introduce this year’s cohort: Phaedra Brown, Rosana Bouzas, Grace Davidson-Lynch, Matthew Donlan, Jaynie Ng, Scarlett Potter, Daniel Stojkovski, Solomiya Sywak, William Winter, and Grace Wilson.

Drawn from across dance, theatre, film, music and literary criticism, this cohort brings a range of voices to Sydney’s cultural conversation, and a shared passion for the kind of bold and ambitious work that Fringe exists to make room for.

A wellness retreat that quickly unravels into chaos. Blending dance, theatre, comedy, and sharp social commentary, GIRLS GONE WILD explores female rage, toxic-positivity, and how to live your “authentic best life”.

After sweeping a whopping 21 awards across the festival circuit, Motion Sickness arrives in Sydney! This cutting-edge physical theatre features pulsing electronic music, immersive AV and breakneck-speed new writing.

This pulse-racing physical theatre production examines the masculine traits present within all humans using energetic, ritualistic movement. Directed by John Fabry, ICHOR explores primal roots through the evolution of our species.

Legendary theatre group Frumpus unleash their indefinable brand of silliness in this hour of madcap entertainment! Three shifty women and their fanged sock puppets embody an unabashed line-up of characters.

SQUATCH WATCH: LIVE IN THE KEY OF G

Hosted by leading podcast Squatch Watch, this hilarious cryptozoological deep dive into the world of squatch hunting brings you on a journey through research, bizarre theories and undeniable proof of the Australian Yowie.

Three best friends, one birthday girl, a bedazzled camcorder, and the scariest stories they’ve ever told. Comedic group HEAT PACK and horror filmmaker Jayden Rathsam Hua stage a genre-bending theatrical experience.

Back by popular demand, In the Key of G returns to George Place in a celebration of new music, creativity and improvisation. Guests are treated to a complimentary welcome drink and charcuterie boat. Hurry - tickets move fast!

Fresh from a stellar season at MICF, this cultfavourite show makes its Sydney debut. Freidah ushers the recently deceased, in all her spooky glory to begin afterlife in the underworld.

CLAIRE ROBIN IS ONE TO WATCH

The award-winning Nun Slut returns to Sydney Fringe Festival after taking the world by storm.

For emerging artists, a festival season can be many things; a testing ground, a creative venture, a chance to connect with new audiences. Sometimes it’s the start of something much bigger.

When Sydney-based artist Claire Robin returned to Sydney Fringe Festival with Nun Slut last year, she joined hundreds of artists both developing shows and taking a leap on new work.

Presented in 2025 as part of our Emerging Artist Share House program, Nun Slut found its audience among the festival’s curious, adventurous crowds. But by the end of the season, Robin’s Fringe journey took an exciting turn, with Nun Slut winning Best Comedy and the Hollywood Fringe Tour Ready Award, opening the door to opportunities beyond Sydney.

Now, one year later, Robin is excited to bring “even more hilarious physical comedy moments” to Sydney Fringe with the same show that sparked that momentum. This time however, she’s stepping onto a different stage, featuring as one of our artists performing at Fringe on The Rocks. This leap is a wonderful reflection of not only the show’s success, but the way a show can continue to evolve long after a festival run comes to an end.

For many artists, shows are tested and developed alongside day jobs, other creative projects, and the hustle required to find opportunities to get their work in front of an audience.

Here’s where Sydney Fringe comes in. We provide a platform where artists can experiment, take risks and discover what resonates with audiences.

For Robin, Nun Slut became exactly that kind of opportunity. Robin comments how Sydney Fringe has been “instrumental in taking the show to the next level and touring overseas”, and although the basis of the show is the same, over the past years she has been pushing herself creatively, developing “new ways to make the crowd laugh” Nun Slut is ever evolving. Robin muses how she is always “adapting the show and integrating the gifts the audience give me every night”

The journey of Nun Slut provides a glimpse into the process required to grow, tour and evolve a show over time. What began as a smaller-scale production has become an ongoing creative project, shaped by new experiences, new audiences and the opportunities that followed. The awards allowed Robin to take her work beyond local

stages and out into the world, currently in LA about to do her first show at Hollywood Fringe, Robin explains she has expanded this into a longer international tour, “performing in Vancouver in a couple of weeks, and at the Edinburgh Fringe”

When speaking on what the recognition meant to her, Robin commented that she was ecstatic when she found out she had won and that “it really affirms the joy the show brings to people and that I’m on the right path”

Artists are at the core of our festival. Beyond showcasing finished work, Sydney Fringe acts as a creative ecosystem, supporting artists at different stages of their careers and providing pathways for development. From emerging artist programs through to major festival hubs, artists are given room to grow, refine their practice and build sustainable careers.

As Nun Slut takes to the stage once again, Robin is excited to “have fun with my hometown Sydney audience”, with attendees getting to experience a work that already has travelled far since its most recent Sydney Fringe run.

This is what local festivals like Sydney Fringe make possible. Not every artist leaves Fringe with an international touring opportunity. But every artist who steps onto a Sydney Fringe stage is given the chance to be seen, to connect and to take the next step in their creative journey.

For Claire Robin, that next step began at Sydney Fringe. One year on, the story is still being written.
