In the year before we turn 60, we ask: what lies next for the SYC Ensemble Singers? To find some answers, we look towards composers who were ahead of their time and organised pitch, rhythm, sound and text in novel ways.
In NEXT, we create constellations of stars with Jordan Nobles (Canada) and chant prayers for the dead with Arvo Pärt (Estonia). We long for halcyon spring days in an idyllic valley with György Orbán (Hungary) and stage a debate about women in Tudor England with Carmen Braden (Canada).
Artistic Director Jennifer Tham, Associate Conductor Chong Wai Lun and Assistant Conductor Nicolette Foo will direct both full-sized and small ensembles in an afternoon of diverse new music.
