編者的話
月曆一字，人間一年，在記下自己日程時方驚覺一年容易又過去，轉 眼間自己已由懵懵懂懂的新生，變成現在又出新一期常刊的太青副編。 自七月起種種事務接踵而至，身邊的人來又去，去又來，似是終日營 營役役，困在思慮煩憂之中。細思下才發覺自己已一段時間沒有獨處， 容許自己沉澱一番。

Ironically, Spiderman’s most famous quote not comes from Peter Parker himself, but from Uncle Ben, “With great power comes great responsibility”. Cliché as it may be, this phrase sums up everything that is currently wrong with the Sin System. A bold statement. One that borders on heresy amongst the carefully crafted ecosystem. I’ll move on to an even bolder one: The Sin System both a pointless burden and a tyrant’s tool and should be removed. If I still have your attention, know that I mean well. I do not mean to cause controversy, and only to explore other viable options to modernize and revitalize hall culture into what it could be, and not the decaying carcass that it is right now. Let it be known that this article was not written in malice, but with a surgeon’s determination. The wolf must bite off its leg to survive. Now that we are over with the dramatics, allow me to begin with a brief introduction of what the Sin System is supposed to be. Note that most of the article onward focuses on one’s duty within the hall, and not necessarily teams and floors. Small Sins are what we call the freshmen who have experienced orientation. Their role is to be a learner, as they are new to the university and hall, and must learn what they should do and experience it for themselves. They should be humble and prepared to learn from their seniors. Middle Sins are what happens after one year of hall life for Small Sins. They become the leaders, and they are expected to pass on the knowledge they have to the new freshmen that have chose to live within the same hall. They are expected to

lead the junior, and listen to the advice from their seniors. Big Sins are what happens after two years of hall life for Small Sins. At this point, they have experienced both being a learner and being a leader and knows the troubles both might face. Their role is to be an advisor and advise both leaders and learners. The Sin System, at its root, consisted purely of these 3 roles. Therefore, a complete hall life was 3 years, the same number as that of university years. Where things become interesting, however, is when university adapted the fourth-year system.
A question arose: What do we do with those in their fourth year?
The solution was … simple really. Graduates were named Super Sin (A direct translation), since they essentially “transcended” Sin System. A more accurate translation would be a “Transcendent Sin”. So those in the fourth year were titled Transcendent Sin, and their role was “senior advisor”. In essence, they had the same role as those in their third year, only more “senior”. So after the brief history, here we are, with 4 years of Sin System. Small, Middle, Big, and Super (Transcendent). In theory, it should work without problems, as every year have their designated roles and everyone contributes towards the hall, all in their own ways. A phrase oft used in war is “No plan survives first contact”. This is rather accurate when used to describe the Sin System. As “learners”, Small Sins were expected to do, rather literally, everything. From organizing some hall events, they also have to take on the responsibility of being a team captain, floor representative or executive member of the student society. The question comes is why are they the ones to take on these duties during the second semester of their “learner” year when these are all leading roles. These should be, in theory, taken up by the “leaders”. In actuality, by semester 2, learners are leading other learners, and most of the leaders are relieved of duty. This is when advisors should come into play, to advise these learners

whenever they misstep. Instead, most advisors are off doing their own thing, and rarely pay attention to anything. They are like crows to a corpse when a misstep is made known, but this belies the question: Where were they when the learners were about to make this mistake, where was their advice? In this case: Whose responsibility is it? The inattention of advisers, or the ineptitude of the inexperienced learners? The Sin System vests power with seniority. One is given the ability to scold and dictate the state of many issues when seniority is provided. Callback to the very beginning of the article: With great power comes great responsibility. If the Big Sins, the so-called advisers, are given such great power, but often fail to fulfill their basic responsibility of guiding their juniors, do they still deserve this power? Do we still provide power to those who fail to finish their responsibility? The next question I would like to ask is the motive of those advisors who actually advise. Do they provide their advice because they’re Big Sins, or do they do so out of the kindness and responsibility of their heart? If it is the latter, is there still a purpose for these labels? The core issue I raise is that Big and Super Sins often fail to complete their own required responsibility. They’re judge, jury and executioner. There is no regulation system in place besides their own self-discipline. In an ideal world where they provide advice as they should, I would have no issue to raise. But right now, the only purpose the average Big Sin or Super Sin serve within the Hall is to be an object of fear and annoyance. Theirs are those risen when one missteps, not in requests of aid, but in frustration and distaste. They often have fallen farther and harder than their juniors, but their only response is in spite, instead of in aid. We should always try our best to help each other, and not to divide.

Trista 7/F Q：你Acting 嘅Post 係咩？ A：Publication and Publicity Secretary。 Q：點解你會做Acting？ A：我覺得有少少俾人呃咗嘅感覺（笑），但始終我係啲博盡為Friend 嘅人，CMY 又係中同。 Q：Acting Pub Sec 有咩工作？ A：（大笑）我就真係冇乜點做過嘢。（編：你喎？）喱啲嘢唔使講 啦，大家都知我做過咩㗎喇，又試過做衰咗某啲嘢咁。 （Tracy：有喊過幾次咁囉。）Pub Sec 其實都係整下Poster、錄下片、 影下相，輕鬆啦，基本上冇乜嘢做。 Q：Acting 期間令你印象最深刻嘅事？ A：做到好忙嗰時有人嚟幫手，尤其係七樓其他Pub Sub Comm，真係 幫咗我好多。 Q：Acting 之後平唔平衡到學業？ A：我平衡得都幾好，GPA 都過2。 Q：覺得做Acting 辛唔辛苦？ A：當然唔辛苦（笑）！ Q：做Acting 有冇令你成長 ？ A：呃......學會咗俾人鬧嗰陣，要乖乖 哋咁坐喺聽，就千奇唔好諗住反駁， 認錯就好了（笑）。 Q：有冇咩想同CMY 講？ A：多X謝呀！

阿豆 2/F Q：你Acting 嘅Post 係咩？ A：Internal Vice-Chairperson。 Q：點解你會做Acting？ A：首先都因為冇乜人做，身邊嘅人有啲係唔想做，有啲就要去Exchange，所以冇人Take Up喱個Post。咁我本身冇乜所謂，反正得返一 個Sem 要Act，又唔係真係好Chur。 Q：Acting IV 有咩工作？ A：Sem 1 主要做嘅都係照顧下啲Latecomers。例如Latecomers 入到嚟 Brief 返多啲佢哋喱間Hall 係點樣，始終佢哋啱啱入嚟，都唔係好適 應。第二就係樓主委會。嗯......主要都係喱兩樣嘢，所以唔覺得話特別 忙。 Q：你早幾年上過Hall 嘅Social Secretary，咁而家再Acting 返支莊都好 罕見，有冇話好大壓力？ A：其實我Year 1 係想上IV 嘅，但因為我係Latecome，所以最後就冇得做 IV。

Q：Acting IV 算唔算係圓咗四年一夢？ A：叫圓咗半個夢咁囉，我本身都比較鍾意做多啲對人嘅嘢。順便同 Hallmates Clarify 一下，Acting 同Ex-Co 係唔同㗎，我係Acting IV，唔係 上莊，只係Take Up 咗IV 要做嘅Duties。 Q：你而家Final Year，會唔會擔心遲啲有其他嘢做，例如要瘋狂見工， 有機會兼顧唔到Acting 嘅Duties？ A：咁又唔會。因為我讀Education，啲工都係Sem 2 嘅三、四月先開始 post，唔會話Clash 到見工嗰啲。同埋我之前爆咗太多Credit，而家冇書 讀咁濟，太得閒（笑）。我今個Sem 得Take 咗18 Credits，之後就Grad 得，所以Academic 嘢都冇乜點Clash。唯一比較可惜嘅係我Year 1 本身想 玩Kong U Danso 嘅Mass Dance，但住咗Hall 之後冇時間。諗住Final Year 試下，但而家又冇機會。 Q：你同而家支莊嘅Ex-Co 都有三、四年年齡差，會唔會開始有種老鬼嘅 滄桑感或者代溝？ A：代溝喱啲嘢就人夾人嘅，我會比較願意做Adviser 嘅角色，畀多啲空 間佢哋決定。啫係會根據我住Hall 喱幾年同埋上莊嘅經驗，提醒佢哋某 啲位有時點做會好啲。但最後係點，都會畀佢哋自己決定。 Q：你覺得Acting 同你真係上莊之間，最大嘅差異點喺邊？ A：始終我唔係Ex-Co，好多位唔可以係我決定。有時一定要先問咗佢哋 三個，然後再Proceed 去第二個Stage。 Q：你喺Acting 期間最想達到嘅目標？ A：有樣嘢係我Year 1都有講嘅，就係我想啲Latecomers Adapt To 喱間 Hall 多啲。其實而家已經易咗，我Year1 嗰陣啲大超仙會再惡啲，好多 嘢又會Chur 啲，所以好多Latecomers 都會Quit。我嗰陣上莊嘅其中一個 原因，就係想幫下啲Latecomers 。咁而家Final Year 我覺得間Hall 係有轉 變嘅，都冇以前咁Chur，或者咁仙嘅態度，可能Latecome 會易啲適應。 加上IV 喱個Post 都應該要幫啲Latecomers 融入間Hall，所以我會希望如 果Latecomers 有嘢要幫手，或者有困難嗰陣，都可以幫到佢哋。

MO? Mass Orien tation? Mad Orien tation?
步入九月，校園重新變得熱鬧
新時期中，MO 仍然是迎新項目
起來，到處可見不同的人影，
之一。部分迎新活動往往希望
充斥於校園不同角落，更可見
帶有「教育意義」，除了讓新
於早上地鐵站內那條排隊的人
生了解認識新的學習環境和同
龍，那條足以從一個出口排到
學外，亦希望他們能跳出以往
另一個出口的人龍。各學會舍
中學的框架，把批判思維提升
堂的迎新活動亦隨之進入尾
至大學生應有的水平，對學術
聲，取而代之的是各種聚舊和
時事都能建立自己的立場和思
招莊的活動，招莊、茶聚和傾
考模式，MO 便是這種思想的體

Try Hanbok
Hanbok is the traditional attire of Korea. Colorful and aesthetic, it was worn daily until a century ago. Since then, it remains an important icon of Korea, and is still donned on special occasions and national holidays. Many visitors can opt to rent a hanbok set for a few hours (along with complimentary hair dressing, makeup and rentable accessories) and may roam around the streets with it, surely can catch everyone's eye.

Tour Seoul's Palaces
With five ancient imperial sites in the Korean capital, Seoul is well-known as the city of palaces. The grandest and most beautiful of these is arguably Gyeongbukgung (Palace Greatly Blessed By Heaven), which sprawls across over 40 hectares and houses both the National Palace Museum of Korea and the national Folk Museum within its premises. Wandering through this living museum is a half day activity all of its own.

1. VIeW the City From the World Financial Center The Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC) is the second tallest skyscraper in the world, and the tallest in China. It is located in the burgeoning Lujiazui financial district competing with all the other imposing skyscrapers in Shanghai. On the 100th floor of this 643-meter-high building, locates the world’s highest observatory – The Sky Walk – where you can observe the scenery of the Shanghai metropolitan.
You can also see the famous Oriental Pearl TV Tower from a birdeye-view. It is recommended to witness the amazing sunset and nightscape from this observatory. www.swfc-shanghai.com 16
2. CruIse Along the HuanG Pu River in the Bund The Bund has been one of the pride and symbols of Shanghai for centuries. This place exhibits a stretch of colonial architectures along the 500 m wide Huang Pu River. It is often referred to as “the museum of buildings�, where 52 buildings of different architectural styles manifests the history of the 1800s. To appreciate the historical buildings, you can take the Huang Pu River cruise, which is advised to take at evening.
3. Enjoy Disneyland PArk The Shanghai Disneyland is the first Disney
theme park built in China. It is decorated with the magic of Disney and the unique cultural elements of Shanghai. Through various themed lands that are filled with amusing attractions and striking entertainment, it brings you to a magical journey. Things to Eat:
1. XIAOLONGBAO ( 小籠包 ) Xianglongbao is the most famous soup dumpling in Shanghai, and is listed as one of Shanghai’s favourite foods. The dumpling hides its soup within its delicately wrapped semi-transparent dumpling skin, and gives a mouthful of hot savoury pork filling. On its note, be aware not to get your mouths and tongues burnt by the hot soup when having a bite.
2. CONG You BING ( 蔥油餅 ) Cong You Bing, or Scallion Pancakes, is a popular street food, attracting Shanghai food-lovers with its smell of buttery scallion and pork-studded fried pancake. The dough is rolled into a spiral and then flattened to give its unique shape and texture.
3. HONGSHAO Rou ( 紅燒肉 ) Hongshao Rou is a dish of soy sauce braised pork belly, which was also loved by Chairman Mao. The Shanghai-style is rather more sweet and soy-glazed. You will definitely be amazed by its taste and texture. 18

In particular, the Hogwarts topic thoroughly embodies the amazing scenes in the Harry Potter series, which creates a magical world for us muggles to explore. Besides, the Disney topic and Marve l t o p i c a re a l so w orth visiting.

2. SHINSAL BASHI ( 心齋橋 ) Shinsaibashi is not only an amazing shopping area but also a famous scenic spot you can’t miss. There you can buy souvenirs for all kinds as well as high-end products. When speaking of its unique viewing values，Shinsaibashi can be roughly divided in two parts—The European village and the American village. The European village is elegant and has a typical british style, with pathways built with stones，buildings constructed with bricks. The American village on the contrary has a distinct characteristic which contains all fashionable and special elements.
3. SUMIYOSHI-TAISHA ( 住吉大社 ) Sumiyoshi-taisha, built in the 3rd century, is one of the oldest shrines in Japan. It is the main Sumiyoshi temple in all of Japan, which houses gods that protect fishermen, travelers and sailors. Roam through its four main halls and take a good look at its unique architecture, Sumiyoshi-zukuri. The buildings are fenced, with the entrance positioned under a gable, and roofs are curved, with forked finials and five horizontal billets. Before leaving, remember to take a beautiful picture over the Sorihasi Bridge for a lovely souvenir!
