After being presented with a bouquet made by Westlea florist Shirley Parrot, the Princess was taken on a tour of Greendown. Showing obvious interest in every activity Princess Anne chatted freely with children and teachers working on computers and in science, language, humanities and drama through Passing classes. Greeendown Playgroup, she received a ÂŁ20 cheque for the Save The Children Fund, her favourite charity. Then in the gym she was nearly knocked over by flying gymnast Helen Morsink. Princess Anne was clearly impressed by adults in a daytime maths class and surprised to find another group lifting weights - on a Monday morning! Before asking Princess Anne to unveil a plaque, Jack Ainslie, chair of Wiltshire County Council, said community schools were at the forefront of sensible and well thought innovation in education. Princess Anne replied by saying that Greendown was an "interesting venture" with a "very good atmosphere" "I wish you all the best" she said before departing, leaving lifetime memories.

FIFTH VILLAGE STARTS The development of West Swindon is now entering its final phase. With a start on the fifth and final "urban village" at Roughmoor an end to house building in the area is about five years away. Toothill and Westlea are complete and Freshbrook/ Grange Park is nearly finished with 160 houses to go. Shaw now has over 1,000 new houses added to the existing village and another 1,700 to be built by 1990. Roughmoor, the fifth village will have over 2,000 household and should be completed in 1992. The village will be located between the 17 acre lagoon water park to be built to the north of Shaw and the Moredon to Purton Road. Another feature of the area will be a Chinese pagoda built on the edge of the lagoon. The first house developers are on site with foundations being built at present. Development Director from McLean Homes Mike Tanner told The Link "We have a mixed development of three and four bedroom homes in very pleasant surroundings. I would expect the first completion by the end of July or early August."

Wiltshire County Council have agreed to employ more teachers to reduce the numbers of children at primary school reception classes. Maria Grime, Chair of the Schools sub—committee, explained the reason for the move. "We felt that a ratio of one teacher to 32 children was far too high, especially in reception classes where children are just starting school," said Mrs Grime. "After discussion with headteachers and staff, we are taking on more teachers to bring down the ratio to one teacher to 29 children. We would like to improve on this by having a teacher with 25 children, but this is going to take some time." A council county spokesman said the extra teachers should be in post for the beginning of the September school term.
NO TRACK A proposal to build a car testing track near houses at Shaw has been rejected — for a second time. The initial planning application by the HLR Company to create a rough terrain vehicle test area was turned down by Thamesdown Council's planning committee on the grounds that the site located on the Shaw tip just to the east of North Shaw was too close to houses. Local councillors had been contacted by residents who expressed their objections. A second application was rejected because the dust, noise and inconvenience would still be unacceptable even though HLR proposed to install a sprinkler system to dampen down dust during the dry weather. The planning committee confirmed that the land was designated for employment purposes and a vehicle track was an inappropriate use. An earlier application to build a tarmac test track close to the Renault Centre had been agreed without difficulties.
HOPES FOR ANOTHER SECONDARY SCHOOL The rejection of a proposal to build a rough terrain vehicle test track at Shaw keeps alive the idea that West Swindon could have another Secondary School. Although Wiltshire County Council do not have any plans, the Shaw tip site is the only land left large enough to locate a secondary school. Thamesdown Councillors agreed a resolution, at a recent full council meeting calling upon Wiltshire County Council to quickly complete a review currently taking place of West Swindon's educational needs and organise consultations with parents. They also want all primary school children to be housed in permanent buildings and plans prepared for another secondary school. Wiltshire County Council are considering the many points made in the full resolution and will respond in due course.

I'm Kevin Brownridge, the new neighbourhood worker for Toothill. Some of you may have already seen me, map in hand, trying to find my way around the area. Most people I have met so far have asked me the same question - "What exactly does a neighbourhood worker do?" The main part of my job will be to work with local groups who are developing facilities in Toothill and who are attempting improve the quality of life for the residents of the area. As I get to know the area I hope to be involved in setting up new groups to respond to local needs - unemployment and isolated single parents are two major issues which have been brought to my attention. An immediate project I am working on, with local volunteers, is reviving the thrift shop at Toothill Community Centre which will re—open on Friday 3rd April. During the first couple of months I plan to get round to see all the existing groups and organisations in Toothill and talk to as many people as possible about their ideas for the area. I have already met with several groups and heard lots of exciting ideas for the area which I hope to be able to take up. I will be at Toothill Community Centre every Friday from 10.00am to 2.00pm so please come and see me if you think I can be of help to you. I have an office at Toothill Farm Tel. GROUP RE-OPENS A group of Toothill parents have re—started the Parent & Toddler Group on Thursday 1pm to 3pm. Parents with under threes are given a warm welcome and are encouraged to take part in running the group. Toddler groups are usually seen as women's territory, but the Toothill Group are eager to see fathers responsible for child care join them. Toys are desperately needed. "I don't know how I'm going to make a choice and I do need something loose for the summer months," Lincoln continued, "but as I've been asked to open The Thrift Shop, I'll be the first to take a look won't I, before the crowds get in there I mean". 8 Faced with the task of writing about a day in the life of Linda Black, Librarian at West Swindon Library, filled me with more than a little apprehension but then I thought if I cannot make the Observer's 'A Room of My Own' why not the Link's 'A Day in the life of " Only too well do I wish that I could say that I get up at 5.30am before work and jog around Wootton Bassett! My current health awareness programme involves a 20 minute aerobic exercise, a quick bath followed by yogurt and fruit before I make a frantic last minute dash for the local bus. Each morning I promise myself that I will find funds to buy a car next year but then the ten minute journey gives me the opportunity to think about the million and one things I hope to achieve at work that day. Having had charge of West Swindon Library for almost 2 years I'm still the idealist and never the realist! Having worked as a qualified Librarian now for 10 years. I still wonder exactly what our thousands of customers imagine Librarians actually do to fill their working day. Of course West Swindon is not a stereotypical library (thank goodness!), but for those who think we sit behind enquiry desks and catalogue books, or worse still fill our 37 hours a week stamping books - well, life is not like that at all. The Library itself is the second largest in Wiltshire and fourth busiest. All the staff take immense pride and pleasure in working in such an attractive

In between just talking to people I admit to being kept busy with all the usual memos, reports, staff training, cash balances and extra curricular activity like book displays in schools and visits by groups to the library. Also of importance to me is the general image of the library. I've lost track of the number of hours staff spend just keeping the place looking tidy and attractive - a never ending battle! 5.00pm is time for a swift cuppa before tackling the late evening shift with more enquiries and new readers. Many people express horror at such a long day but all the staff agree at 8.00pm we really do not know what happens to the time. On the return journey home I reflect on what I've been able to achieve in the day. Those achievements are only as a result of the commitment of all the library staff who work so hard coping with the routine of 1500 books returned each day and then to be put back on the shelves not to mention a further 1500 to be issued. I am continually grateful for their smiles and dedication. Yet another cup of coffee on my return home, feet up and I think how lucky I am to have the job I have.

PETITIONS & PROTESTS IGNORED Residents protests and petitions against a "factory" being built in a residential area have been to no avail. Its being built by private developers Plyn Limon Estates and Thamesdown ratepayers are contributing to the project. During 1986 Toothill/ Westlea Councillors consulted with the residents living close to the site on the corner of Rivenhall Road and Ashington Westlea Westlea. Way, Residents Association organised a 350 name petition which was presented by 100 people who lobbied Thamesdown Council's planning committee. The Association argued that the site should be used for residential purposes in keeping with the adjacent area; and that the increase in heavy traffic to an office block would be dangerous near where several bus routes converge and lorries are delivering to Carrefour. West Swindon will soon be the site of an ambitious scheme to find British tennis players who can compete with the world's best. With financial backing from the Lawn Tennis Association, the Sports Council, Taylor—Woodrow Construction and Thamesdown Borough Council, three indoor and four outdoor tennis courts with associated facilities are planned for a site on the eastern edge of Westlea next to the Delta Business Park. The land, originally set

PLAYGROUP TO GET ITS OWN PLAY AREA One of West Swindon's Community Centres will soon have a unique facility literally on its doorstep. Children and staff at Westlea's Upper Shaw Farm playgroup are looking forward to the summer day when a purpose built play area will be ready for use by stepping out of the front door. Designed and built by Thamesdown Council's Arts & Recreation Department, the pre-school play equipment will only be available to the groups of under-fives who use the Upper Shaw Farm Centre which is run by the Council's Community Development . Division. Landscape Architect Jim Meadowcroft, who designed the play area, commented "Because access will be through the farmhouse, we've been able to put in the more unusual equipment which normally requires adult supervision. There will be a 18 foot wide sand pit, a play house, outdoor toddler furniture and musical chimes post and the whole space will be covered with studded rubber matting for safety. Its very exciting." New playgroup supervisor Lynne Scragg thinks the play facility will be a great asset to
child development, "It's going to be marvellous; there will be so many opportunities for play and physical exercise which cannot take place indoors." Lynne has arrived at Upper Shaw Farm playgroup just in time to plan for the new play area. She was born and brought up in Swindon but has only recently returned after fourteen years away in London and Hampshire. She has been a residential social worker with children in care and then gave up work to be a mother to an adopted son. When he went to school, Lynne became a playgroup supervisor and then Chairwoman of the Romsey branch of the Pre-School Playgroups Association as well. She also ran summer play for schemes for older children. "I suppose I do have quite a bit of experience with children," admitted Lynne, "The preschool years are such a vital stage; their imagination and creativity is so rich. I enjoy providing the stimulus for them and seeing them change from shy, clingy three year olds to fives. rising confident Playgroups are such a resource to the whole family; it benefits parents as well as their children. SPREADING THE GOOD WORD ABOUT WEST SWINDON
Most Tuesday evenings of the year a deafening noise can be heard at Freshbrook Community Centre; drums crashing, tinkling sounds, feet stamping, people talking - then silence sometimes. Inside you will find over 60 children enjoying themselves and six adults overseeing ordered chaos. The GWR Majorettes are rehearsing. Formed in February 1985, •GWR Majorettes are entering their third summer season of taking the good name of West Swindon far and wide. Pearl Bridge, a pensioner who now lives in Pinehurst, wanted to do something for youngsters and brought the first parents together to organise the troupe. Most of that first season was spent practising and raising money, though by June they were out performing at fetes, including the Freshbrook Fun Day Parade. Pam Pixton, Secretary of the GWR organising committee described their activities, "Last year we were performing twice a month from June to September. We appeared at most of the local fetes and started going further afield. This year we're off to Thorpe Park and Battersea Park in London. This is the first season where we will have a complete marching band with the troupe. We're the Great Western Revellers because we're from the West, we think we're
great and our colours are the same as the GWR Railway. In fact we have two troupes - the Revellers for the older girls and the Revellettes for the youngsters - we march together and perform separately." Currently 63 girls and one boy practice regularly and six adults form the organising committee; "Over the last two years we - the adults and children together - have raised over £2,000 to buy drums, bell lyres and flags. Brenda Bolton of Selby Crescent makes all the uniforms which are loaned, with hats, to the girls" said Pam. "This year we have introduced a different kind of hat. We used to have cowboy hats to go with the western theme. We went to a • competition in Cheltenham last year when it tipped down with rain. We could have discovered the meaning of the ten gallon hat but sadly they went completely soggy and the girls looked a bit of a mess." The troupers enjoy GWR a great deal. Mace bearer, Emma Barrable, aged 13 from Westlea, described her role; "My job is to keep the troupe in order when marching and to encourage good behaviour" said Emma. "I like the GWR because it gets me out in the summer and we visit different places." Drummer Belinda Flowerday from Bosham Close, Toothill agrees, "It's really good fun and I've got

so many friends." The lone boy from Lambert Close, Freshbrook plays drums. "We have a good laugh going to the different displays" said Darren "and the girls treat me alright." GWR is not all about marching, playing instruments and practising. "We have parties, jumble sales to raise money and outings to build up group spirit", said Secretary Pam, "and we hope to hold another weekend summer camp this year. All of us have a great deal of fun, though as you might expect its hard work." As for newcomers, Pam said the GWR
Majorettes welcomes girls who want to join. "We can usually take older girls straight away. Younger ones might have to wait a little while so that they can start together. We are looking for more musicians to join us, and here we can welcome boys. We would like to meet children with a little musical experience but we can provide training if they are keen". WILDCATS FIRST SEASON The Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey Team officially opened their season on 13 September 1986 against the Altringham Aces in front of approximately 300 inquisitive fans. Not knowing quite what to expect, most visitors to this first game were amazed to see 90 mph slap shots, breath—taking runs and incredible control by ungainly looking heroes dressed up more like jousting contestants than sportsmen. However, once bitten by the hockey "bug" its extremely difficult to let go, hence many now loyal Swindon Wildcat fans will tell you. So what does the "Hockey Bug" consist of? Besides witnessing one of the fastest, skilful and most aggressive games in the world, spectators watch in the comforts of seating, in a warm, friendly atmosphere where the whole family can come along without the fear of intimidation from the opposition fans. The Wildcats have drawn more and more fans each week, to the point on 21 March, against
Oxford, Link Centre officials are expecting a house full. Unfortunately the Swindon Wildcats have not fared well in their first season of top class hockey. Unusually the 'Cats' were promoted straight into the first division, missing out the second. This brought local lads without experience up against players of considerable talent with many years of top class hockey behind them. Swindon were also finding it difficult attracting their allowed quota of 3 import players to boost the squad. Good import players apparently preferred to look to well established clubs. In the end Coach Walker put together two quality imports and has recently signed a third. Without imports (who are mostly from Canada) a team could not be expected to survive in the highly competitive Division One, Heineken league. Early in the season, Swindon soon realised that life was never going to be easy. Coach Walker immediately identified his goal for the season as staying up in Division One.
FITNESS IS FUN Everybody is constantly being reminded about the positive effects of keeping fit by exercising; but turning thought into action is quite another matter! Every excuse under the sun is used to get out of doing that 3 mile jog you promised For the good of Ice Hockey development in Swindon and the continued high quality games at Link Centre let's hope the Wildcats do manage their objec'tive. Whether it's Division One or Two next season, Ice Hockey has certainly brought a new dimension and lots of new characters to Link Centre. The Wildcats are made up of players from all over the county, not forgetting our international friends. Consequently when walking round The Link Centre and you hear a strange accent perhaps you've just bumped into one of our unsung heroes, who dress up every weekend in the yellow and black of the SWINDON WILDCATS! Greendown Students: Cathy Taylor, Christopher Evans, Jeremy White, Margaret Hockley, Tracy Cartmen, Vicky Leverton and Lisa Draper recently presented their play. "The Leaf Factory" at the Merlin Theatre, Frome in the regional finals of the national Science, Technology & Drama Competition (sponsored by
Lloyds Bank and the British Association for the Advancement of Science). Their exciting piece of Drama, which explored how a leaf converts sunlight into oxygen and food for the tree, won them 30 for the school to spend as well as the unique opportunity to perform under the 'bright lights' of a real stage.
TRIP TO PARIS We got to Dover at ten past eight. The boat trip was good but we didn't buy anything. About an hour later we could see France. Our first town was Abbeville and we had a look around. I bought a chocolate croissant. The hostel was great. I shared my room with two of my friends. We went to Paris and first we went to the Champs— Eylsees. After that the Eiffel Tower. Then we went to Notre Dame cathedral. We had our lunch outside the Pompadou Centre. To finish the day we went to the Sacre—Coeur. Then we went to the Hostel. On the way back we stopped at a hypermarket. We had a great time.

by Nick Digby, Thamesdown Archaeology Unit. This new and regular column will put you in touch with the history of West Swindon. To many it may come as a surprise that the area does have a history at all, despite its modern appearance. In fact remains of the Romano—British are common, and medieval peasants cottages lie scattered in many field corners or now under neat modern houses. Much of the known evidence has been recorded by the Thamesdown Archaeology Unit, based at Wick Farm, off Hay Lane, that narrow windy and very uneven road running between Hook Road, Grange Park and the Purtori Road, Shaw. Part of it has now been turned into foot— path from Hook Road, across Sudeley Way to Grange Park Way. This lane provides one of the most obvious links, as its origins are extremely ancient. A glance at any Ordnance Survey Map shows Hay Lane running almost straight North—South,
across the entire map. By following the line it can be traced to Droitwich in Worcestershire to the North and to Southampton in the South. The reason for such a road running up the southern half of England can only be explained when the product with which Droitwich has been associated is known. The product was salt! Salt was a basic necessity and the salt springs at Droitwich were exploited by the Romano— British who named the place Salinae. They almost certainly inherited use of the site from the Iron Age people, and pottery of that date suggest distribution must have followed a route similar to that of Hay Lane. In Worcestershire the route is still called Salt Lane, and 90% of it is still used as lanes and roads. Freshbrook and the M4 have removed short sections but its historic character survives across much of North Wiltshire, even if its days as a major highway are long since vanished.

"The next time you sit beside me at the Freshbrook Friendship or Luncheon Club, should you sniff a peculiar smell please don't think it's me - just check the tyres on my wheelchair. You will most likely find them full of dog excreta. In my travels around West Swindon in my chair I am constantly dodging piles of the stuff which has been deposited on our paths and grass by thoughtless dog owners. I say dog owners because you can hardly blame the dogs, they are only doing what comes naturally - what a pity they don't do it in their gardens instead of all over our paths, grass verges and parklands.
It has come to the attention of the Thamesdown Law Centre that a Housing Association with properties in the Toothill and Freshbrook area is using "distraint" as a remedy to recover its rent arcars without applying to the County Court for permission to do so. "Distraint" means sending bailiffs round to the house in question and taking away the tenant's possession for sale at an auction room in order to pay off the rent arrears. It is a very harsh and old—fashioned remedy and has no place in modern housing management. If you or your friends or neighbours have had a visit from the bailiffs, you should contact Richard Hazell at the Law Centre on 486926/7 as soon as possible.

WHAT'S ON IN SWINDON
Did you know that Swindon has four theatres? That it has one of the most exciting dance studios in the country and a performance programme that gives you the opportunity to see a range of arts events nearly every night in April? Each month we hope to keep you in touch with what's going on in the arts in Swindon, through reviews, previews and listings. Further details on all events are available from the Arts Studios at the Link Centre and the West Swindon Library. Check the Evening Advertiser on Fridays for details of weekly events at all venues, while Saturday's Advertiser has information on films and local bands. The four theatres in Swindon each offer a wide range of performances that include drama, dance and music (classical, jazz and rock). These are the WYVERN THEATRE in the town centre, the ARTS CENTRE in Old Town and the LINK ARTS STUDIOS. The Wyvern runs a mixed programme of arts and entertainment in this, the largest theatre in Swindon. Highlights this month include the 'London Festival Ballet 2' on the 7th and 8th of April, a community drama production of Laurie Lee's 'Cider with Rosie' from the 14th to 16th and 'The Cannon and Ball Show' on the 26th. The Town Hall studios are the home of Thamesdown Dance Department and the Media Arts Lab. The Dance Studios offer courses and classes in a wide range of dance, while the Media Arts Lab provides facilities for film, video and sound recording.
The performance programme this month includes 'The German Sisters' on the 2nd, a film from a series 'Women in Focus', 'Denise Block and the Kray Sisters', a comedy/cabaret show on 9th and a Youth Dance Gala on the 11th. The Arts Centre in Devizes Road in Old Town is the base for a number of groups. local amateur Performances there this month include Shakespear's 'The Tempest' on the 2nd, 'Joolz' the punk poetess on the 23rd and the 'Lansdown Singers' from the 30th to 2nd May. The Link Arts Studios are situated above the library at the Link Centre. This month's highlights range from a performance by the 'Women's Theatre Group' on the 10th, a circus skills workshop and performance by 'Taboo Mime Project' on the 16th and Mark Bunyan, a witty composer/ pianist on the 25th.All four venues offer workshops and classes in various art forms, as the JOLLIFFE does ARTS COMMUNITY STUDIOS above the Wyvern Theatre. The Jolliffe is also the home of Thamesdown Community Press which provides skilled assistance and materials for producing posters, leaflets and any printed publicity or promotional material you may require. The Link Arts Studios are the major purpose built arts facilities in West Swindon. Apart from the performances the theatre is used for workshops and classes, and it is also available for individuals and groups from the community to use for band rehearsals and

concerts, film shows, drama productions, etc. The craft studio has facilities for pottery, as well as providing space for artists and craftspeople to work in. A fully equipped darkroom, operated on a community access policy is there to be used day and night on a very cheap basis. Julie Livsey, the current 'Artist in Residence' for West Swindon is based partly at the Link, whilst having studio and workshop space at the Community Arts Studios in Dunwich Drive, Toothill. We will be reporting further on Julie's residency next month. We shall also be looking at the arts programme in Greendown Community School in Grange Park with particular emphasis on drama. WE SENT THEM AWAY Well, that's what the word
missionary means - someone who is sent away. And did you know that a family from Toothill Church in West Swindon was sent away as missionaries? Yes, 4 years ago, Tim and Zinnia Symonds, with their Daughter Caroline (then only 4 years old) were asked by the Church in Hong Kong to go all the way over there to help them! Caroline always wanted a sister, so while they were there, they adopted Susanna, a chinese girl, now aged 7. Now the whole family is back with us in West Swindon for a year, telling us what happened
to them in Hong Kong. They have been very busy, starting a new Church and an Old People's Centre, on a brand new housing estate with lots of high rise flats. And of course, they've had to learn to speak Chinese, which is very difficult! But it's worth all the hard work, to see people being changed when they learn about the difference Jesus can make to their lives. We shall be sorry to say goodbye to them again in August, when they are going back to Hong Kong to carry on the good work there.
THE CHANGING SCENE OF SHAW We live in a changing world, and nothing seems to change more than the Shaw area, with houses springing up at tremendous rates. Gone are the days when it was about 36 houses. At Christmas we distributed 1,000 Christmas cards, as against 500 cards the Easter before. However, one question that I am continually asked is when is the area to the North of Shaw Village Square going to change, when are we going to see the church being built? The answer is very soon. It is quite possible that, by the time you are reading this copy of the Link, work may have already started, for the starting date is scheduled for sometime in April. (The plans can be seen in the library at The Link Centre). It is estimated that it will take 40
weeks before it is completed and ready to serve the community. We hope, it is not going to be a building used just on Sundays but a building which will serve the people of Shaw in various ways. It is intended that the Church Area, as well as at the times of public worship, will always be open during the day time, for the community to use as a haven, a place to pray or be quiet and think, whilst the rest of the building will be available for all kinds of activities, such as another pre—school playgroup, parent and toddler group, the one at the chapel is almost too big now, and a meeting place for the over sixties. The uses that the building is put to depends chiefly on the residents of Shaw and is there, as the members of the church are, to serve you!. Keith Boxall (Vicar for Shaw).

West Swindon's annual announcement that warmer weather will soon arrive makes its appearance.
SPRING DELIGHTS by Claire Beaton of Toothill Gardening on a cold West Swindon clay tends to mean our seasonal delights in the garden will flower a good month later that they will in the attractive pictures in the gardening press. With Easter arriving towards the end of April this year, I am expecting to see my 'Waterlily' Magnolia stellata in bloom over the holiday weekend. On lighter soils this would be in flower in March. This is a gorgeous shrub to plant as a focal point in your garden. In winter you look out of the window at its graceful web of twigs, each tipped with a promising furry flower bud. As spring comes, these become silvery in the sunlight. Then they split open and the many petalled, pure white flower expands (this is when you hope no heavy frost will brown the petals). They look their best against an evergreen background but should not be planted too close to a hedge as this will blur their fresh leafy form in sumther. Returning to the flowers; these are sweetly scented and will continue, with new buds opening, for between 3 and 5 Weeks depending on how warm the weather is. If you get the opportunity to inspect one at close quarters, see how wax smooth the petal looks as it bells out from the stigma in the faintly gold centre.
Since magnolias have fleshy roots, nothing more substantial should be grown beneath their branches than spring or autumn bulbs. This year I'm waiting to see the effect of 'Glory in the Snow' (Chinodoxa lucilliae) planted beneath. I'm hoping for a pool of clear blue flowers, each petal with a white stripe lightening the flower centre. In summer, the magnolia's leaf canopy is fresh green to the ground, with new leaves opening slightly bronze. I can't remember seeing Magnolia stellata in Mr and Mrs Sturt's garden in Lower Churn but their garden in spring is lovely to visit. As you approach the front gate, look out for the winter flowering cherry (Prunus subhirtella autumnalis) in its last flush and see if you can smell the creamy white flower clusters of Viburnum burkwoodii. In the back garden a stream runs through a woody meadow naturalised by fritilllanes; not butterflies but purple and white flowers, nodding box—like something like Chinese lanterns? You'll have to go and see for yourself! Mr and Mrs Sturt's garden is open under the National Gardens' Scheme on Sunday April 12th, 2pm to 6pm; Admission 50p, children free. From South Cerney turn a bridge down Bow—wow Lane for 1 /2 mile.
