MD-4 CALIFORNIA LIONS CLUBS ANNUAL STUDENT SPEAKER CONTEST TOPIC “HOW DO WE CREATE AND KEEP JOBS IN AMERICA?”
This year the Lions of MD-4 California are proud to sponsor our 76th Annual High School Student Speaker Contest. The Contest is open to students, including foreign exchange students, grades 9 through 12 of any high school, charter school, private school or home school. Eligible students must be under the age of 21 as of February 23, 2013. There are six levels within the Contest. The first three are paid in cash. The following Contests at the higher levels pay $4,500, (15 separate winners,) then $6,500, (4 separate winners), and the Final Contest pays $10,000. The California MD-4 Final winning student gains $21,000 in scholarship funds. Scholarship awards are to any accredited two or four year college or university or to any other school approved by the Lions 4th District Student Speakers Foundation, Inc. Each year there is prize money from each level of the contest awarded for a grand total of $103,500 dollars awarded statewide. The Ridgecrest Club Level Contest is scheduled to occur February 19th, 2013 at 6:00pm in the Ridgecrest City Council Chambers, 100 West California Avenue and is open to the public. The Club Level Contest is open to a maximum of six students. Students entering the contest shall prepare a speech to be as close as possible to, but not over ten minutes, nor less than five minutes in delivery time. The speech is an expository one, meaning to persuade the listener, on the subject topic. The Contest is an open opportunity for the students to express their views, and open doors for financial scholarship funds.
