The transition to an all-digital projection completes a comprehensive theater renovation designed to provide an unparalleled movie-going and entertainment experience for the community and surrounding areas. The cinema will unveil its digital conversion on October 10, 2012. The only movie theater in the area, Ridgecrest Cinemas has been a community icon since its doors opened in 1983 as a two-screen location. The addition of six more screens followed over the years, along with other enhancements -- all part of the owners’ desire to continually give back to their hometown. “As a community-based theater, providing our customers with the best possible projection solution on the market was very important to us,� said Michael McGee, Managing Partner of Ridgecrest Cinemas, Ltd. “This theater renovation – which will ultimately extend all the way down to new seats -- started with the necessity to convert to digital, and we realized that if we were going to commit to a technology, we wanted to make the best choice possible for our future operation, and that meant Sony 4K projection.� The upgrades are also in response to the theater’s loyal community fan base, who had been expressing their desire for a projection upgrade, especially for 3D screenings. INDIAN WELLS VALLEY WATER DISTRICT VOTERS It has been eight years since we lost most of our Indian Wells Valley Water District corporate knowledge. Let’s try to understand what has transpired in that short time. When Don Joe McKernan, Judie Decker and Leroy Corlett left the board several well meaning but totally inexperienced people filled thier slots. McKernan, Decker and Corlett left the IWVWD in great shape financially with over six million dollars in the reserve fund. Today our situation is much different. District coffers are nearly empty with a debt between $25 and $30 million dollars at 5% interest; one fourth of the District employees have been laid off, some with as much as 38 years service; water rates have gone through the roof, how do you like your water bill now? How have we gotten into such a mess? For starters, we had a banker for a general manager and a CPA for a board president - again well meaning people with no experience. I know about the unfunded mandate from the state forcing the District to build arsenic removal plants. Truth is - the board had several years to prepare, and finally paid much more for the plants than they should have. What firm did the value engineering on that project? Last election we did not have anyone willing to step up and run for the board. To me there is nothing worse than having “good ole boys� run for office unopposed. This time we have a lot of good people; we should thank them for their time and effort. In a different time anyone of these candidates would do the job. However, we don’t have time to get folks up to speed; we need our old hands back on the board to hit the ground running. 1. DON JO MCKERNAN: 33 years experience on the board, knows more about the IWVWD than anyone in the valley. (Financially frugal) 2. LEROY CORLETT: 17 years experience, has developed valuable contacts in county and state government. (Fiscal accountability) 3, JUDIE DECKER: 17 years experience, water conservation has been a major pursuit. (She will make sure the board crosses its t’s and dots i’s) 4. CHUCK CORDELL: A new candidate for the board, valley resident for 57 years, understands what it takes to build District infrastructure.
