Bentley Park Residents’ Council

Bentley Park Social Club
Despite the worst weather possible there was a good turnout of residents for the talk on Mobility Scooters. A follow up from the speakers was very positive and they have offered to come back again next year. They have also offered if four residents with Gophers need their Gophers serviced, they will come out and drop call out charges, just charging the basic $140.00.
Our weather hopefully will improve soon and the sun will shine brighter. Looking forward to the Dolphin Cruise in September. In October we are organising at outing to the aquarium at Hillary’s. Cost is $50.00 and flyers are to follow with more details. As such, there will be no meetings in September or October. As the Bulletin had already gone to press before our August meeting, we don’t have the details regarding money raised at the No Bake Cake Sale, but will follow up in next Bentley Park Bulletin.
The Social Club invites all residents to a free concert with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra. The theme is ‘Let’s Dance.’
Diary dates to keep in mind are the 24th of October for our outing to Hillary’s and the 28th of November for our AGM. Other dates are the 4th and 11th of November where we will be selling tickets at the Swan Grocery Store for our Christmas raffle.

September’s guest speaker on the 19th of September is Visva Kumar who is responsible for education and training in SwanCare’s People and Culture Department. The topic will be ‘Mental Health First Aid’. In the next month we will be calling for nominations for the Residents’ Council and will be seeking at least eight members. All current Councillors can renominate. If you are interested and want to know what is expected of a Councilor, contact Bill at billwaterer@gmail.com. The Council have been working with management on resolving residents’ concerns but please remember we cannot fix problems that happened years ago unless they are still reoccurring. Many of the issues raided are ‘people’ problems and we need to be able to talk to each other before matters get out of hand. Members of the Council are at The Club from 9:30am – 11:00am on the second Friday of each month. If you have a concern or need information, drop in and say ‘hi’. Bingo Club Moving into Bentley Park alongside her husband, Allan, retirement living resident Mary Manning was looking for a new activity she could immerse herself into and meet new friends through. “I heard about the Bingo Club through a friend and decided to come along, I thought ‘what’s there to lose?’ Well actually I thought ‘there’s not too much to lose!’” Despite never playing before, Mary had a great time and quickly found a love for the game. 17 years later she remains a passionate Bingo Club member, joining fellow residents every Thursday evening to share a laugh and try her luck on going home a winner. In addition to playing bingo, residents also have a chance to secure a win with break opens, lucky numbers, door prizes and raffles. “The social aspect is what I enjoy most but obviously there’s also a chance to win something, whether it’s money or a prize, either are great! It’s a game of chance, you can’t always win but it is always a fun time.” Players are asked to bring their own mug for tea or coffee with biscuits for a small donation of $1. Alternatively, attend with your own snacks and drinks to enjoy throughout the evening. “A lot of residents encourage their friends to join - or persuade their friends I should say!” Mary laughed, “No matter how they find us, it’s great seeing new faces and I’d recommend it to anyone.” The Bingo Club are welcoming new members to come on down and give it a go! To arrange pick up and drop off, please contact village bus driver, Ken Power, on 6250 0486.
