SwanCare Allsorts Choir

Maureen Grickage moved to SwanCare 10 years ago where she had an idea to start her own choir, “I was a bit hesitant at first, but finally I found the courage to put a notice up and see who would be interested. At first only three people attended, then there were ten. Now we have over twenty fabulous members!” Maureen said. The talented choir consists of residents from all walks of life, including ex-farmers, truck drivers and nurses. Maureen shared how it was the uniqueness of the group that inspired their name, “A friend of mine asked ‘How is that choir of yours going?’ and I said, ‘It’s going ok.’ At the time we had only just started, and I didn’t even know what to call us. She then asked me, ‘Who’s in it?’ and I replied, ‘Oh lots of different people, we have all sorts.’ Then I thought, that’s it! That’s our name!” SwanCare Allsorts Choir meet every Tuesday at 2pm in the Auditorium. They dabble in everything from show tunes to hymns, with a special interest in music from the 60s and 70s. Although there is one particular song Maureen says she enjoys most, “I love when they sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Before they start, they’ll hand me a tissue because they know it makes me emotional. It’s just so beautiful.” The choir is preparing for their midyear concert scheduled for Sunday, July 9th at the Auditorium from 2pm. The performance is free to watch and will have an old-time musical theme. SwanCare Allsorts Choir are on the lookout for a conductor to direct them, so whether this is you or perhaps you’re interested in just singing, the club remains open to new members, “I would recommend the choir to anyone. Singing does something to you and your spirit, it makes you feel good. We all get on well and look after each other in the choir, everyone is welcome to join us,” Maureen said. When: 2:00pm to 4:00pm Tuesdays Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Maureen Grickage on 6250 0580

SwanCare Centres Auxiliary Our first meeting of the year went well with a good crowd and interesting speaker. However, we are looking forward to our luncheon day out to Settlers in York. Bookings for this day trip have now closed but rest assure there will be future events for more residents to attend. We also received the updated wish list for care centres and SwanCare Ningana can now go ahead and access the $400 we donated to purchase 10 new jigsaws. Thanks to all our residents who contribute to our fundraising efforts. Writing Group The group meets regularly, and a great deal of work has been undertaken already this year. We have one writer’s space left in the current class but could set up another group if required. The current members have interesting backgrounds, and most are writing family histories of some kind, plus fantasy works, so there is a great deal of interest in the texts being written and discussed. The group is very surely supporting each other’s efforts, as is requested. If any other villager is interested in finding out how the group works, you are very welcome to contact me and attend a session or two before deciding whether to join us. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday morning the 13th of April at 11:00am until approximately 12:30pm, and then each fortnight thereafter.
