Asaprofession,weareusedtolawyerjokes,eyerolls atdinnerparties,andthesubtle(ornot-so-subtle) PRproblemsourprofessionseemstocarry.Butthe factthatsomeone,somewhere,officiallycreateda daytoremindtheworldthatlawyersarepeopletoo saysalot
Italsogotmethinkingthatmaybewedoneeda reminder.Notjustforthepublic butforourselves. Becausebeneathallthecourtroomdrama,fighting, andstereotypesliesatruththatoftengets overlooked:lawyersshowupwhenlifefallsapart.
Wearetheoneswhoshowupwhensomeoneloses aparent,getsarrested,signsdivorcepapers,fights forthecustodyoftheirkids,orgetstheirlife upendedafteramajordisasteroraccident.Wehelp familiesnavigatedeath,businessownersprotect everythingthey’vebuilt,andindividualsstandup againstinjustice.

Thisyear,I’mtakingitasacuetoremindmyselfthat we,asaprofession,stillmakeadifferenceintheworld andwhyIgotintothisprofessioninthefirstplace.In recognitionoftheDay,Imightevenextendalittle moregracetoopposingcounsel(atleastuntil Monday).
Sohere’stous theonesstillfightingthegoodfight, eveniftheworlddoesn’talwaysunderstandwhatthat takes Inhonorofourday,Iencourageyoutoshowa littlemoreloveandappreciationtoyourfellow practitionersouttherestandinginthetrenchesonthe otherside.

AuntAnnette’s PeanutButter&Kiss Cookies
Nothing says the holidays like the smell of warm peanut butter cookies fresh from the oven. A family favorite, these cookies are a simple, sweet tradition that brings everyone together. Soft, chewy, and finished with a chocolate kiss, they capture the cozy spirit of the season and are always the first to disappear from the dessert table!
1 c. butter (softened)
1 c. peanut butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 ½ c. unsifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
chocolate Hersey’s Kisses extra sugar to coat dough
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl with mixer at medium speed, mix first 6 ingredients until fluffy. At low speed, mix in next four ingredients. Shape into 1” balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2” apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press chocolate kisses into center of cookie.
