MARCH

everyone’s talking about... CELEBRITIES

OLIVIA & CASPAR RELATIONSHIP RUMOURS SPIRAL

Actress Olivia Wilde has “unofficially” confirmed her relationship with art dealer Caspar Jopling, following a string of high profile LA dates.

Wilde, aged 41, was seen out a Beverly Hills bash dressed in Oscar De La Renta with Jopling on her arm on Friday 27th February. They also notably left early together, cosying up as they got in their limo.

And they were at The Sundance Film Festival in late February, where Wilde posted a series of sexy snaps on her Instagram, one of them cuddling up to Jopling, posting underneath the pic, ‘The Invite and I Want Your Sex’ which is a nod to both her films being shown at the Utah-based film festival. And more as the media have speculated - which Wilde and Jopling have not yet denied.

And there was also an “alleged kiss” between the pair recorded by media outlets in September last year, although no pics to prove have surfaced, yet.

In celeb dating land – these recorded outings, trists and social media posts do “unofficially” yet “officially” confirm the pair are dating.

Jopling was previously married to Brit singer Ellie Goulding. Wilde had previously dated former ‘One Direction’ star Harry Styles, 31, for 2 years in 2021 after directing him in her hit film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’.

Prior to this she was with actor Jason Sudeikis for nine years and has two children with the ‘Horrible Bosses’ star; Otis (aged 11) and Daisy (aged 9).

They broke off the engagement in 2020 saying they grew apart - although her subsequent link to Styles just a few weeks later - caused a great deal of contention and wagging tongues!

RUTH LANGSFORD TALKS ABOUT BODY ISSUES

Surrey TV star Ruth Langsford has penned a book called ‘Feeling Fabulous’ and talks candidly about her body issues, relationships and life in the spotlight.

The ‘Loose Women’ and ‘This Morning’ host talks about her “turkey neck” and “TV close-ups” saying how hard it is (now aged 65) to be an older woman

She also revealed how she would cry in the shower before going to work following her break-up with ex-husband and ‘This Morning’ co-star Eamonn Holmes. She expressed a "deep loss" and said it was incredibly hard to come to terms with the 26year relationship coming to an end. Ruth said, sadly “I expected to be with Holmes forever".

The book, available now, is fully titled, ‘Feeling Fabulous: Be your best self, no matter what life throws at you.’

We can’t wait to read Ruth Langsford, our fellow Surreyite’s, full memoirs.

BILLY OCEAN IS COMING TO SURREY

BECKHAMS SCARED OF TELL-ALL BOOK

Victoria Beckham is said to be terrified of her eldest son Brooklyn’s “next move” that could be a reported tell-all autobiography surrounding the family feud.

A source has told Heatworld, “While Vic desperately wants Brooklyn back, she also wants to tread carefully and doesn’t want to poke the bear.”

In January this year, 26-year-old Brooklyn, publicly spoke out against his “controlling” parents requesting they only contact him via lawyers as revealed in a social media post backed up by a legal letter.

The Beckham feud started way back in 2022 when photographer Brooklyn married billionairess Nicola Peltz. According to reports tensions grew when Nicola refused to wear a Victoria Beckham dress on her Wedding Day, snubbing her designs for a Valentino gown.

The legal letter has shown just how bad things have gotten between the family. Victoria has also been accused of making Nicola cry on her Wedding Day by getting up and doing the first dance with her son, embarrassing him and ruining the special moment between the couple.

It is not known how David and Victoria replied to their son’s initial letter, but it is understood that this was the last formal contact between all parties.

A Brooklyn-penned book could be on the cards, if this matter escalates according to sources, and Victoria is said to be “heartbroken” about the whole situation.

There has been limited family gatherings and talks of feuds ongoing with all the family members for 3 years now. Brooklyn is said to be caught between a “rock and a hard place” with his mum Victoria and wife Nicola and this legal letter is the final straw in making his parents leave him and his wife alone.

Legendary ‘Caribbean Queen’ soul singer Billy Ocean is coming to Surrey this July.

The ‘Sandown Park Nights’ season will welcome leading acts for its magical 2026 music nights, bringing club classics and chart-topping stars to Esher this Summer.

Ministry of Sound Classical headline on Friday 24th July, bringing its unique show of a live concert-format production re-orchestrating iconic dance and club music, followed by Billy Ocean on Wednesday 29th July, who’s set to wow the crowd with a show full of smash-hit singles and fantastic vocals.

Taking place at Esher's renowned racecourse, Sandown Park Nights sees world-class racing followed by full headline performances from some of the nation’s biggest music superstars, the stage having previously been graced by Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Jess Glynne, Madness, George Ezra and Bryan Adams.

HAPPY MONDAYS HIT GUILDFORD

Happy Mondays hit the road this Spring for a massive tour taking in Guildford on 10th April, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their landmark album ‘Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on tour with the Mondays in 2026, especially with our old mates The Farm, who are touring with us,” says frontman Shaun Ryder.

Shaun, Bez and the full Mondays line-up will deliver the album’s iconic singles ‘Step On,’ ‘Kinky Afro’ and ‘Loose Fit’, alongside classics like ‘24 Hour Party People’ and ‘Hallelujah’ at state-of-theart entertainment venue G Live.

“Really excited to be going back on tour again in the UK!” says Bez. “I love being on the road with the Mondays, there is no better feeling than playing to the fans of live music.”

NEWS FOR HIM IMD 2026 #CALLFORAPPLICANTS

International Men’s Day (IMD) is on 19th November each year and is marked across the UK and the world and serves as a day to acknowledge and celebrate men's contributions to society and to promote awareness of men's mental health and well-being.

Over the past four years Surrey Rocks Magazine has been raising awareness of this important date and interviewing inspiring Surrey men for it’s cover feature articles.

For this year’s theme “The Future Is Everyone” we are calling on our Surrey readers to nominate their “Inspiring Surrey Men” who we will endeavour to feature in the November 2026 issue. Please email info@rocksmag.com with IMD 2026 in the subject headline and the name and reason for your nominee.

The majority of previous nominees share one or more of the following objectives - to give you an idea of what we are looking for in our next “Inspiring Surrey Men/IMD” Feature Article:

• Valuing male role models

• Acknowledging the contribution of men and boys

• Improving male health

• Tackling discrimination and disadvantage

• Fostering positive gender relations

• Making the world a safer place for everyone

Here we share with you some of the stories of our previous IMD entrants to give you an idea of how their stories and interviews have helped highlight and shape our IMD feature articles, giving valuable insight to readers.

IAN MCCULLOCH, FOUNDER, SILENT POOL GIN

Surrey born Ian started the Silent Pool Gin brand, one of the most sought after, successful gin brands in the world. His valuable insights in our IMD Feature shared the best advice you can give on starting your own business:

“Being patient and also being relentlessly impatient! You’ve got to try and be measured. Just keep going, just keep pushing. You have to be dogged and you can’t ever give in. There are times you think you have paddled yourself up blind creeks, and you need to backtrack and take another route upstream, then you need to do that.”

"Trust your gut. I really thought I was going into the RAF after seeing the Sunday Times Magazine ads with an upside-down plane as a kid. I could have done that but my gut told me not to. Your gut always guides you – listen to it."

JASON BURRILL, BB WINNER, ENTREPRENEUR & PHILANTHROPIST

Surrey-born Jason won the UK’s biggest reality game show ‘Big Brother’. His acting work has since seen him star in James Bond film ‘Spectre’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. We asked him what advice would you give other men going through a difficult time?

“No-one is going to help you if you don’t want to help yourself. There are too many people in this world who are out for themselves, are selfish or will let you down. Only you can decide your own fate. DO NOT GIVE UP. Make 10 calls and if 10 don’t find you help, make 11 calls. Fight, never give up.”

GARRY MILNER, OWNER OF MILNERS, LIQS & BUMBLES

The Ashtead based business owner, shared the secret to his success as an entrepreneur:

“The secret to my success lies in my commitment to customer satisfaction and building a strong and solid team with the same vision is paramount. For the last 30 years we have continuously been evolving in response to market needs. We believe in fostering relationships with all our customers and understanding their preferences, which helps ensure loyalty and growth.”

CHRIS WALLER, FOUNDER, WE POWER

ON

We Power On is a local walking group for Men’s mental health and fitness set up by Chris Waller in 2022 as a result of his own struggles with mental health. He told us what challenges he has faced and overcome:

One of the toughest challenges I’ve faced was a severe decline in my mental health which almost led to me taking my own life. Hitting my lowest of lows pushed me to seek help through my GP who referred me for CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). After this, when I realised there wasn’t much in the way of mental health support for men in my local area, I decided to put up some leaflets to invite other blokes struggling to come along. As time went on I was joined by others and ‘We Power On’ was born – now with over 30 members, the group has helped many men struggling with mental health issues with weekly walks and social events.

FOR HER#FASHIONCOLLABORATIONS WHAT'S TRENDING...

One of Surrey Rocks favourite fashion brands Max & Co. (part of the MaxMara group) has just announced a brand new collaboration with London-based studio Raeburn to release a capsule collection of ecofriendly outerwear and bags that uses recycled, bold and versatile fabrics.

Max & Co. was born in Italy in 1986 with the premise of making clothing that is artfully simple, beautifully crafted and designed for modern life. Their idea was to reimagine and energise the brand, bringing back their unique spirit in order to live up to their mission of making everyday fashion extraordinary.

The new collaboration with Raeburn features a stunning collection, which will be fully unveiled to the public soon.

For now we have a rose pink puffer with matching bag to show. We can’t wait to show you the full collection next month. Until then take a look at two other recent collabs the Italian fashion house has done with LA based Sami Miro Vintage and Italian artist Pietro Terzini.

MAX & CO. FASHION.…

SAMI MIRO VINTAGE

Max & Co. presented ‘Becoming Undone’ inspired by the multifaceted woman inside each of us in its recent collection with designer and founder of Los Angeles based brand, Sami Miro Vintage — which is also a trailblazing sustainable fashion company.

PIETRO TERZINI

This collection tells the story of today’s renaissance woman through deconstructed tailoring, raw edges, exaggerated silhouettes, and exposed seams that fuse utility with femininity. The collection is stunning and fashion forward as you can see from the latest pictures.

to the garment on which they are applied, often overturning every expectation. There are two collections – fashion and homeware. The collaboration with Pietro Terzini is splashed with the artist’s signature wit and attitude. Because life’s too short for boring gifts and fashion.

Pietro Terzini is an Italian artist who lives and works in Milan. His style ranges from digital art to fine art, passing through street art. This marks the 4th recent collaboration for the fashion house. Terzini’s statements are absolute gems and are always directly linked

RECIPE

THE 30 SECOND CUPCAKE

Being IWD and Mother’s Day we thought we’d share the complete “blaggers guide” to baking. You can cook an individual cupcake in any microwave in 30 seconds, from start to finish.

It has been timed, 50 times at least, by your Editor Sam Matthews and interns Jayna Mistry, Harriet Hill and Alex Weaver. And tried and tested – it tastes delicious.

And if you want to cook a larger cake that can be done in 3 minutes preparation time by following the method below x 8 for the ingredients and in a greased oven proof baking tin. Although you will need to cook in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 2025 minutes. (A microwave won’t COOK IT for larger cakes and you could get salmonella poisoning – so don’t try this at home.)

INGREDIENTS:

• One large tablespoon of margarine or butter

• One large tablespoon of caster sugar

• One large egg cracked

• One large tablespoon of self-raising flour

METHOD:

1. For the 30 second cupcake dream; you have to be quick here –imagine its sports day at school and

you are finishing the 100m sprint.

2. It helps to have a glass of wine nearby.

3. Have all your ingredients ready beforehand and stand near microwave to prep and save time.

4. Put a large tablespoon of margarine or butter, one large tablespoon of caster sugar, one egg cracked, and one large tablespoon of self-raising flour

into a plastic kids bowl (any Ikea or local supermarket version will do).

5. Mix ferociously for 5 seconds with a small fork.

6. Once blended (or sort of blended) –whack the mixture in a microwave for 15 seconds on full heat.

7. Take out and tip upside down on a small plate. Tap.

8. Decorate appropriately - or not at all.

WINE PAIRING

White, red, rose or champagne goes fabulously when you turn into a supremo baker for this ’30 Second Cupcake Dream’. Drink a lot - but not too much – so you are not slowed down when you are against the 30 second timer.

Have your wits about you and make sure the cake mixture goes in the bowl. The champagne goes in your mouth and the decorating is precise, or not at all!

MOVIE REVIEW ALBUM REVIEW BOOK REVIEW

PROJECT HAIL MARY

‘Project Hail Mary’ features the ‘Notebook’ star Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, an astronaut who wakes up alone on a space station with no memory of who he is or why he’s there.

As his memory returns, he discovers he’s on a mission to the new Tau Ceti solar system to stop a cosmic event that has already pushed Earth into the early stages of a new Ice Age.

Expect lots of perfectly orchestrated, visually captivating space scenes and alien lifeforms aplenty – ranging from the scary to the ridiculous. ‘Star Wars’ stalwarts Yoda, the Ewoks and C3PO are given a run for their money here with the ‘Hail Mary’ cyborgs and aliens.

Co-starring German ‘Anatomy of A Fall’ actress Sandra Huller and Hulu’s ‘The Bear’ star Lionel Boyce this is a twist and turning thriller of a sci-fi film that will enthral viewers of any age.

The film is produced and directed by ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’, ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘The Lego Movie’ pioneers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. They started out in Hollywood with comedy hits including ‘21Jump Street’ with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 2011.

Having gone from strength to strength – the directing duo – are set to bring ‘Project Hail Mary’ to be the Spring’s blockbuster movie to watch.

Released on March 20th – get your tickets in early.

THE MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE – RAYE

Raye is back with her 17-track, second studio album this month, ‘The Music May Contain Hope’ on March 27th.

This follows her breakthrough debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ in 2023, that scooped the Londoner 6 Brit Awards - unprecedented for a female solo artist in the UK and even the US.

Raye picked up gongs for Best Album, Best Artist, Best Song, Best R&B Act and Best New Artist at the Brits when she was only 26. She was also the first woman to ever win ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and a Mercury Prize nomination.

It’s been a long time coming (3 years to be exact) but Raye’s second album ‘The Music May Contain Hope’ is definitely worth the wait.

In the last 3 years she has honed her writing skills and voice, working with the likes of impresario Mike Sabath. Her first track from the album ‘Where Is my Husband?’ is already hitting the airwaves and getting praise for its tone and authenticity.

The new album is said to reflect 4 seasons so expect a mix of pop, rhythm, blues and dance.

Raye first shot to fame when her track ‘Escapism’ went viral on Tik Tok and reached number one in the UK charts. Her album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ also won her a Mercury Prize nomination, plus all those aforementioned Brit Awards.

Raye has said her middle name was inspired by her grandmother, Agatha Dawson-Amoah, who she has said is her mentor. “My grandma is awake til 3am praying for me and my beautiful sisters, I love you so much,” Raye said.

BUZZING WITH THE BEES - FROM BRENTFORD TO HOLLYWOOD

From the terraces of Griffin Park to the glitz of the Oscars. This heart-warming, hilarious and synchronicity filled journey through showbiz, sports, celebrity encounters and sheer determination.

Marcus take the reader on a fascinating journey across contents, decades and unforgettable adventures. Hamilton Gibson, performance artist, DJ, football fanatic and entrepreneur blends brilliant anecdotes with moments of genuine inspiration.

Whether he is gatecrashing the Bayern Munich Champions League victory party, rubbing shoulders with the Hollywood elite on Oscars night or blagging his way into the Celebrity XI for a charity match at Griffin Park, Marcus's charm, wit and resilience shine through.

Behind the scenes chaos at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Organising star studded charity matches and hanging out with Premier League legend with deep roots at Brentford FC from childhood.

A heartfelt tribute to the Bees, family, friends and the beautiful game.

His tale is as much about identity and passion as it is about celebrity encounters. This a story for football fans, entertainment lovers, people of clubland and anyone who has ever dared to dream. The book is dedicated to his beloved mother, Sybil Agather Gibson, who's inspiration runs throughout the pages. From Isleworth to international acclaim.

DOODLES DECIPHERED

We all do it, scribbling away while on the phone to friends, family or work colleagues on a nearby pad. But what do these daydreaming doodles actually mean?

Are they random? Apparently not.

The hidden meanings have long been said to say a lot about your personality.

Pen makers BIC teamed up with doodle expert and consultant graphologist, Tracey Trussell, to launch their “Design and Shine” survey of 2,000 UK adults.

The results found we doodle four times a week on average – for 15 hours a year in total and what they are supposed to mean.

DECIPHERED

Criss-crosses can be a sign of anxiety, straight lines suggest someone is a “no nonsense” type and pointed shapes indicate an ambitious and competitive nature. Arrows mean going in a new direction in life while boxes mean pressure.

Tracey Trussell said: “Doodles are like little maps that guide us in the exploration of people’s psyches. They are created casually – usually when the doodler is concentrating on something else – by the complete free flow of uninhibited symbols, live and direct from the subconscious.”

We spoke to leading “doodle expert” Rachael Caringella from Tree Talker Art to decode these mainstay popular scribbles. What’s your go to scribble and do you agree with our Doodle Experts on the personality traits? In Surrey Rocks HQ the flowers, stars and arrows were spot on!

ANIMALS

Animal doodlers are usually sensitive. They may connect better with nature and animals than most humans. Different animals can also represent different moods and personalities.

ARROWS

Arrows often indicate feelings of ambition, drive and motivation. People who draw arrows and straight lines are often goal oriented and assertive.

BIRDS

Birds show the desire for freedom and flight. The bird is also a representation of hope and trust. Drawing and doodling birds also indicates a peaceful and optimistic mindset.

BOXES

Drawing boxes often indicates that you want control over a situation or that you are thinking through a problem. Squares, boxes and cubes often reflect that someone is efficient and analytical.

BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies are dreamy, romantic creatures that don't like to be tied down. They are also great representations of transformation and rebirth. Drawing and doodling butterflies in flight can indicate your desire for freedom.

CIRCLES

Circles represent unity and peace. Since the circle is drawn with round flowing movements it invokes a peaceful mindset. If drawing bubbles & circles you are likely to be a peaceful, well-rounded person.

CLOUDS

Fluffy clouds indicate a happy individual who is free and light-hearted. Clouds can also indicate someone is a day dreamer. Angry stormy clouds can reveal depression, sadness and anxiety.

DOTS

Random dots indicate instability, anxiety and anticipation. Dots in an evenly spaced apart pattern represent control, stability and creativity.

FACES

The expression of the doodled face speaks volumes of the mood of the doodler. Certain facial features may be exaggerated that could provide additional meanings. Drawing full faces can indicate feeling sociable, friendly and open.

FLOWERS

and sociable. The shape of the petal can also reflect a lot. A soft rounded petal will suggest a feminine softness, but pointy petals show defensiveness. Drooping flowers indicate feelings of stress and burden, while vibrant flowers reflect joy.

HEARTS

Hearts often reflect that love and romance is on the mind! These simple designs can also be used as petals and borders, reflecting love and beauty.

HOUSES

Doodling flowers indicates someone who is warm hearted

Drawing a house or your home shows feelings of nostalgia and the need for security. Drawings of happy looking houses with plentiful windows reflects a happy home life, while isolated windowless houses reveal loneliness.

INTRICATE PATTERNS

Highly detailed intricate designs are often signs of an introvert and someone with extreme attention to detail. They may have a hard time coping with sudden change or may at first seem inflexible with new ideas.

MOONS

The moon is a symbol of mysticism and darkness, and this doodle is common among women. Doodles of the moon often reveal an introverted personality, and a solid understanding of self.

STARS

Stars are often symbols of hope and optimism. To doodle stars shows that you are optimistic and are able to find hope in the darkest of situations. Stars, like the moon often reflect an interest in mysticism and spirituality.

TREES

Trees are often self-portraits of the doodler. A sparse skinny tree can reflect feeling unseen or uneasy, while a happy tree full of leaves indicates feeling full of life. A tree surrounded with flowers is someone who feels full of hope and joy. A lone tree on a hill suggests someone feels isolated and lonely.

TRIANGLES

Triangles are a masculine shape based on the sharp angles. They show forward thinking and direct action. Triangles reveal a rational mindset.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S

WOMEN’S DAY 2026

International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8th celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide. The day also marks a call to action for advancing gender equality with this year’s theme being ‘Give to Gain’ encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

When people, organisations and communities give generously…. opportunities and support for women increase.

Giving is not a subtraction! It's intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.

Whether through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring or time, contributing to women's advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world.

In 2026, IWD marks an extraordinary milestone: 115 years of collective action and progress toward gender equality. For more than a century, IWD has helped drive transformative change. Each generation has built on

IWD TIMELINE

Many first wave feminist groups, such as the suffragettes and suffragists, played a foundational role in shaping IWD by championing women's rights, particularly voting rights, and laying the groundwork for broader feminist movements. Additionally, many feminists educated about gender inequality and rallied support for a better world for women, such as Simone de Beauvoir, Virginia Woolf, Betty Friedan, and Gloria Steinem. There are many groups and events that have actively forged IWD to become what it is today, which is a vibrant worldwide movement where everyone is welcome and included to help advance gender quality. Many influences have contributed to the rise, popularity, and mainstreaming of IWD.

1776 - Abigail Smith Adams, first lady to President John Adams writes her 'Remember the Ladies' letter on March 31 urging that Continental Congress consider women's rights and protections when drafting new laws for the newly independent nation of America which, on July 4, adopted the Declaration of Independence.

1792 - English author, Mary Wollstonecraft, advocates for educational and social equality for women in her book, 'A Vindication of the Rights of Woman.'

1857 - First organized strike by women workers occurs in New York City on March 8 with a protest march by women textile workers calling for fair working conditions with a shorter work day and decent wages, alongside equal rights.

1903 - Independent women's movement, Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), is founded by Emmeline Pankhurst in Manchester, England.

the courage of those before it, pushing boundaries and redefining what is possible.

IWD honours the achievements of women across all aspects of life - social, economic, cultural and political - while also advocating for gender equality.

Surrey has a plethora of successful women achieving amazing things day after day. These remarkable women are revealing all in this feature on what it’s like being a woman in 2026 and juggling their existence in a somewhat still, maledominated world. This year’s theme being ‘Give to Gain’ is encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

WHAT HAVE YOU “GIVEN AND GAINED” RECENTLY?

I’ve given myself to different projects and causes and gained a lot of clarity lately. I realise our legal system is not fit for purpose most of the time and favour most likely goes to the most powerful or influential.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN BEAUTY PAGEANTRY AND YOUR CHARITY WORK?

If I’m honest, it started on a whim. I submitted an application almost as a test, egged on by a friend. I was 39 at the time, thinking i was way past the pageant application age. But I got through. What I quickly discovered is that beauty pageantry, at its best, is far more than appearance and ‘beauty pageant’ is a redundant term. For me, it has become an empowerment platform - a space where women and children can feel seen, supported, and strengthened.

During some of the most difficult periods in my life, the pageant community - that network of supportive, uplifting women - provided something I will always be grateful for. Your world can feel like it’s falling apart, but walking into a pageantry event can offer powerful perspective, connection, and even a little magical escapism.

My charity and philanthropy work grew naturally from my own experiences of adversity, both before and during my pageant journey. Having survived domestic violence and significant personal challenges, my mission has become clear: to help ensure women and children are truly heard and supported in a society that too often overlooks them. Pageantry didn’t just give me a platform — it helped me rebuild.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AND OVERCOME?

In truth, ‘challenge’ has been a companion throughout my life. My father committed suicide when I was just four years old and even before I was born, his life and my life were destined to only briefly cross paths. At fifteen, my best friend passed away.

In adulthood, came abusive relationships, the realities of raising children as a single parent, and the pressure of building and sustaining an education business. There have been moments when life didn’t just knock me down — it kicked me completely down and when i was already down!

Some experiences change you permanently. That is the honest truth. But healing is not about becoming who you once were. It’s about learning to live alongside what you’ve endured — wiser, stronger, and with boundaries that protect your peace. I am still here and trying. And that, in itself, is a quiet kind of victory.

HAVE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME DISCRIMINATION AS A WOMAN?

Yes - and often in ways people don’t expect. I’m going to be honest - there’s a persistent myth that being a blonde, attractive woman somehow makes life easier. Recently, I was speaking with a friend from a different cultural background who initially assumed my path had been straightforward. However, as we talked more deeply, we realised that many of the expectations placed upon us and aspects of our upbringings were remarkably similar. From the outside, I may not appear as though I’ve experienced significant hardship or trauma - and that, perhaps, is the most misleading part. Over time, including through difficult experiences

Danielle Baron

trying to stand up for justice, I have become increasingly aware of the subtle and sometimes systemic misogyny that still exists in certain institutions. I have also witnessed the impact of internalised misogyny between women, which is a conversation we don’t have often enough.

What I’ve learned is this: women who appear strong or confident are often fighting more battles no one sees.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT ASSUMPTIONS MEN MAKE ABOUT WOMEN?

I would challenge the lingering belief - sometimes subtle, sometimes overt - that men are inherently entitled to more opportunities, more authority, or more second chances. While meaningful progress has been made, women are still often required to continually prove themselves in spaces where men are more readily trusted. Too often, women’s perspectives are dismissed or discredited through assumptions about hormones or mental health - and this remains unacceptable. Our assertiveness is criticised as being hostile.

WHAT DOES BEING A POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL MEAN TO YOU?

To me, it begins with awareness, authenticity, and emotional intelligence. Life teaches you that you will encounter two broad types of women:

• Those who genuinely celebrate your growth

• And those who, often from their own unhealed wounds, feel threatened by it

Maturity is learning to recognise the difference — and choosing wisely where you place your energy. Being a positive role model means modelling that discernment. It means intentionally surrounding yourself with women who uplift you and consciously uplifting them in return. Success feels infinitely more meaningful when it is shared. It also requires the courage to be appropriately vulnerable. Not every space is safe for your story — but in the right spaces, vulnerability becomes a bridge that helps others feel less alone.

Through my years working with children and families, I have seen firsthand how empathy and understanding can transform confidence and self-worth. Compassion, without judgment, is one of the most powerful forms of leadership we have. Being a role model is not about perfection. It is about being real. Being kind. Holding firm boundaries. And using your voice in a way that helps other women and girls feel seen, supported, and strong enough to keep going.

WHICH WOMEN HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE MOST?

There is something about Kate Winslet that has always resonated deeply with me. She embodies a rare blend of beauty and authenticity — never appearing to mould herself to fit expectations. That quiet confidence has always inspired me. Closer to home, my mum has been one of my strongest role models. She built her success through resilience and determination, carrying a deeply rooted strength. We are very different in personality. She is naturally more reserved, whereas I have grown into someone who feels compelled to speak up (maybe a bit too much!) and seek justice. But watching her quiet suffering and endurance shaped my own drive to be more vocal and protective — both of myself and of others.

Even my maternal grandmother, who passed away before i was born, has profoundly influenced me. She lived in a domestically abusive and violent relationship. My mum once shared a story that has never left me - that my grandmother was knocked unconscious and dragged upstairs by her husband. She later confided in my mum that she felt she was simply waiting to die. Hearing that changed something in me at a very young age.

I made a deeply conscious decision that my life would not follow that pattern. Her story became a silent turning point in my mindset. Breaking generational cycles is, to me, one of the most powerful forms of strength. I believe she would be proud of me, and in many ways, my life feels like a form of redemption for all that she endured.

And most importantly, no woman should ever be blamed for the silence she once needed to survive. In her time, leaving was far more difficult — and even today, for many women in similar situations, walking away can still be incredibly hard and deeply risky.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO WOMEN/GIRLS?

Find the courage to speak up when something isn’t right - and honour yourself enough not to tolerate disrespect.

WHAT’S YOUR LIFE MANTRA?

Sometimes you have to fall (or to lose it all) to truly discover your strength.

If life brings you to your knees, let it.

Because from that place, you have the power to rebuild, piece by piece, stronger, wiser and more resilient than before.

What feels like an ending can become the very foundation of your greatest comeback.

THE ENTREPRENEUR Lorraine Captan

Lorraine does not measure success by titles or noise. For her, it has always been about people, about connection, about building something meaningful without losing sight of what matters most. Grounded, quietly driven and unwavering in her values, she represents a kind of entrepreneurship that feels both modern and deeply rooted. She has built her business, Forever Bloom, with the same principles that shape her life: integrity, resilience and an instinctive understanding of atmosphere. Her approach is not performative, it is purposeful.

Lorraine’s floral installations are immersive rather than ornamental. Creating environments that feel effortless yet deeply considered. She understands that atmosphere shapes emotion, and she approaches each project with the intention of leaving a lasting imprint. Her aesthetic is timeless, balancing romance with structure and softness with strength. By working primarily with high-end faux florals, she achieves both longevity and precision, ensuring that each installation feels abundant yet re-fined.

Attention to detail defines her process, echoing the uncompromising standards portrayed in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, where excellence is built behind the scenes. Yet her influence extends beyond design. Lorraine is known for leading with integrity and for championing other women in business. Collaboration, encouragement and shared growth sit at the heart of her philosophy. Central to her pride is her daughter, who is forging her own path with confidence and independence. She makes it clear that her daughter’s accomplishments are entirely her own. Rather than claiming credit, she chooses to lead by example, demonstrating resilience and kindness in action.

From events to commercial environments, Lorraine’s exquisite work is designed to elevate how spaces function and how brands are perceived. The emphasis is not on decoration but on creating environments that convey presence, credibility, and impact. As a modern entrepreneur, she represents a generation of women who build boldly, remain grounded, and understand that true influence is measured not only by success but by the standards they quietly uphold.

WHAT HAVE YOU “GIVEN AND GAINED” RECENTLY?

I’ve given my time and my artistry. Long before I started Forever Bloom, my journey began with a simple love of creating beauty. I first expressed this through volunteering for well-known charities, transforming ordinary venues into memorable gala

events.

In return, I’ve gained meaningful friendships and a deep sense of fulfilment that comes from giving back.

HOW DID YOU COME TO START FOREVER BLOOM, AND HOW HAVE YOU MADE IT SUCH A SUCCESS?

Honestly, it was my husband who first gave me the confidence to see what I was creating as more than a passion. He came home one day to find I’d made a giant blossom tree display, long before they became popular. He stopped in his tracks and said, “You’re mad. You should do this as a business. “That moment he planted the seed, but the decision to build Forever Bloom, and to grow it, was very much my own.

I believe success comes from having a genuine passion for what you do and being brave enough to pursue it. I still have moments where I pinch myself, I wake up excited, with new designs forming in my head, and I can’t wait to get into the studio.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AND OVERCOME?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning to navigate growth, understanding that scaling a business isn’t just about taking on more work, but about doing it sustainably and on your own terms. I’ve also had to overcome self-doubt, particularly early on, and learn to value my expertise. Experience teaches you that confidence isn’t arrogance, it’s earned.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO OVERCOME ANY DISCRIMINATION OR MISCONDUCT BEING “A WOMAN IN A MAN’S WORLD?”

There have definitely been moments where assumptions were made about capability, authority, or technical knowledge. Rather than reacting emotionally, I’ve learned to let the work speak for itself. Delivering consistently at a high level has been the most powerful way to challenge those perceptions. Respect follows results.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE ASSUMPTIONS MADE BY MEN OF WOMEN?

I’d change the assumption that confidence needs to look a certain way. Women don’t need to be louder, tougher or more aggressive to be effective. Strength can be quiet, thoughtful and collaborative. Different leadership styles bring different strengths, and that diversity is incredibly valuable.

FEATURES

Lorraine Captan

WHAT DOES BEING A ‘POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL’ MEAN TO YOU?

Being a positive female role model means leading by example and showing that women can build, create, and succeed while staying true to their values.

It’s about supporting other women rather than competing with them, sharing knowledge openly, and celebrating each other’s achievements. I believe real leadership is about empowering others through action, integrity, and encouragement.

On a personal level, it also means guiding my daughter by example. To see that confidence, kindness, resilience, and ambition can all coexist and that she should never feel limited in what she can achieve.

WHO ARE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOUR LIFE, AND WHY?

Other than my mum, it’s been the successful women I’ve met along the way, those who lead with quiet resilience and balance ambition with generosity.

What I admire most is that these women haven’t sacrificed their values or beliefs to achieve their goals.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS/WOMEN JUST STARTING OUT IN BUSINESS?

Trust your instincts and don’t rush. You don’t need to have everything figured out immediately. Focus on building expertise, not comparison, and remember that

your perspective is your strength. Longevity comes from consistency, not perfection.

WHAT'S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

Be the example you’d want her to follow.

THE MOTHER Debbie Clack

Debbie is the devoted mother of Lillie Jane Clack who at only 22, lost her life following a car crash on Christmas morning in 2021. The driver, was under the influence and Lillie was sober. It is every parent's worst nightmare… two police officers knocked on her door on Xmas Day and explained Lillie had been involved in an accident it was critical. The days that followed were an emotional roller-coaster, with the family hanging on to any little bit of hope. However, sadly on the 28th December 2021 at 4.55pm, Lillie’s heart stopped beating. The family asked, “How can it be right that Lillie has been left to lay in a hospital mortuary for 3 weeks, needing a postmortem to prove how she died while the driver is free to enjoy his life? Something needs to change.” Help the family get justice for Lillie and other innocent victims. People that cause ‘death’ whilst driving should have their licence suspended immediately. People who are convicted of ‘death by dangerous driving’ should receive 25 years in prison – the maximum the courts can give. People that are sentenced for ‘death’ by driving whilst under the influence should never permitted to drive again… it should be a lifelong consequence for their actions. It has been a long journey to get justice for Lillie but Debbie is almost there. There are 42,347 signatures so far. “We will keep going to make sure we get justice for our Lillie,” Debbie says. WHAT HAVE YOU “GIVEN AND GAINED” RECENTLY?

Time and presence, plus a calm, safe physical space, listening without fixing and giving my emotional availability - that kind of presence is deeply valuable and is often an invisible labour. I have also supported my friends and family through their grief. Plus, carrying emotional weight after difficult conversations - that's a genuine form of giving, even if it doesn't show up on a balance sheet.

IF ANYONE IS GOING THROUGH GRIEF/ LOSS - WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THEM?

Supporting grieving people means hearing difficult stories, plus being able to manage and cope with empathy and compassion. If you get invested in community and connection - find a place where people feel less alone,

doing rituals (tea, conversation, familiarity) and having gentle normality in hard times - that can really help. I set up Lillies in the Garden – the tearoom to help raise money for Lillie’s cause. That's a powerful psychological return.

Helping people through grief often deepens. The emotional insight being around loss and healing tends to build compassion. If you have perspective on life priorities, emotional resilience you can change how you see both joy and hardship.

HAVE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME ANY DISCRIMINATION OR HARDSHIPS?

Owning a tearoom like Lillies In The Garden means hard work. You've invested your ideas your taste and atmosphere, your personal values and I feel I have shaped an environment that reflects something of myself & Lillie. I feel I have more of a meaning and purpose now.

Helping people through grief often deepens, with a sense of contribution and alignment with personal values, feeling that your work matters beyond profit. These often become the heart of community-based businesses. My tearoom has brought the community spirit back.

WHO ARE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Family members, in particular my mother, who battled cancer 3 times, she never gave up. My Nan also – she is definitely a tough old bird. My sister who is my soul mate and caregivers…..these souls I am in awe of.

Teachers or mentors (I suppose I have to say this) as I wouldn't be here today if they were not part of my life. Plus, women who just keep going despite money worries, poor health, sadness - yet they always manage to smile and carry on - as well as mothers who have had to live without their child.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS/WOMEN?

You can be anything you want to be! Be a leader not a follower. Don’t shrink yourself to make others comfortable! Grow into who your meant to be. Always follow your dreams.

WHAT'S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

FEATURES Debbie Clack

Also “Live life love” - And importantly — it doesn't mean becoming hardened. You can be empathetic, nurturing, strong, and expansive all at once. Be kind ... kindness cost nothing and last a lifetime, but never at the cost of abandoning yourself. Always tell the people around you love them. Tomorrow isn't promised have no regrets.

I am dedicating this IWD entry to Mothers who have had to carry on either in life without their child.

Joanne Matthews is one of Surrey’s finest. Born and bred in Warlingham, she has also lived in Oxted, Dorking and Fetcham and has had a successful career in London; first as a model then organising international fashion shows before going on to do Marketing & PR for top brands including Estee Lauder, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and M&N Associates – the latter of which she co-founded with her good friend Nicky.

She is also a devoted mother of three and grandmother to 4 (in her early 70’s – a woman never tells!) and has been married to Oxshottborn Martin Matthews for 50 years now – for which she deserves a medal/sainthood!

Her life hasn’t always been easy having lost her mother when she was only 22 to breast cancer (after she was ill for 10 years) and also losing her brother and father at an early age. She also saved her sister Rosemary’s life when she pushed her out of the way of an oncoming car on their way to school one morning. Joanne, aged 8, was flung onto the bonnet and was hospitalised. If Rosemary (aged 6) was hit by the car the police said she would have been sucked under the vehicle and could have easily died from the injuries she would have sustained.

Joanne’s charity work includes fundraising for the NSPCC for 30 years raising over £1m in funds and being Chairwoman of her local parish, Church of the Holy Spirit in Fetcham, for 13 years. She now takes care of her family, children, grandchildren and elderly friends and is always there to support and listen to everyone around her.

WHAT HAVE YOU “GIVEN AND GAINED” RECENTLY?

I have given love and support when needed to family and friends. I have recently gained respect for older people as I can see how difficult things are especially, when you are on your own.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR SURREY CHARITY & COMMUNITY WORK?

For 30 years I was a volunteer for the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) in Surrey. Our Dorking-based committee raised over £ 1million in the time we worked for them; organising annual NSPCC Craft Markets at the Burford Bridge Hotel (also supporting local businesses) as well as Carol Singing and doing Charitable Collections in the

High Street and at Dorking Train Station. Sadly, in the late 90’s, no young people came on board to carry on our work - so unfortunately our local group was forced to close.

However, I now support my daughter Sam in her fundraising efforts through Surrey Rocks Magazine and Surrey Fashion Week (stepping in to model last minute at Epsom Fashion Week) and raising over £15,000 for charities including Mind, The Meeting Room, The Royal Marsden and Prostate Cancer UK to name a few.

Plus, for 13 years I was chairwoman of our Fetcham Catholic Church : The Holy Spirit. I ran confirmation groups, sang in the choir and ran many fundraising events including the annual Summer BBQ, Quiz Nights and Coffee Mornings – keeping the parish & community together.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AND OVERCOME?

Getting a serious cancer diagnosis 20 years ago was tough, the treatment was hard but the recovery even harder. But with love and support from my family and friends I have come through it all.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO OVERCOME ANY DISCRIMINATION OR MISCONDUCT BEING "A WOMAN IN A MAN’S WORLD?"

I think women of my age will have experienced some sort of discrimination - but having the confidence to carry on and not be deterred is an important lesson for us all to learn.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE ASSUMPTIONS MADE BY MEN OF WOMEN?

Has anyone heard of the expression “Her in Kitchen?” That well-used phrase used to make me really cross. Men like to appear strong and masterful, but I know (and we all know!) we are more than HER in the kitchen.

WHAT DOES BEING A ‘POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL’ MEAN TO YOU?

I think it means getting the right mix between home and work life. I started my own PR company 30 years ago and have had lots of very interesting jobs yet I have always made time for my family, which is still the most important thing to me. Striking the right balance is hard for women but it is achievable.

WHO ARE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

My good friend Nicky Winch, whom I started a business with. After 30 years we still give each other advice and support even though she now lives in Portugal. We have shared so much love and friendship and continue to do so.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS/WOMEN?

Be strong with your convictions, care about people and don’t always put yourself first. Always stand up for your principles and keep your mind active daily.

WHAT'S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

Never give up.

Debbie is an actress, an author, an altruist, a writer, a producer, a content creator, a podcaster and a voice artist. She has raised funds and supported numerous charities. She's a mother to 2 daughters, grandmother to 3 grandsons and dog mother to 3 canine kids! She has enjoyed a successful career in television and theatre. She is the only actress in the UK - or maybe even the world – who has appeared in 2 soaps at the same time....and every major UKTV soap in the last 30 years as a regular character.

Debbie started her career in television and went on to appear in the most iconic comedy and drama programmes of the '80s, '90s and '00s! Everything from 'Miss Marple' to 'Minder' – comedian Ronnie Barker even created a character especially for her in the ‘2 Ronnie's’.

She's also created many extremely successful online shows with her business partner Dee Anderson including 'Wonderbirds' with Sherrie Hewson and Harriet Thorpe, ‘Beauty Angels' with Linda Lusardi which metamorphosised into 'Beauty Investigates' again created by Debbie and starring Debbie, Dee and Debbie McGee. Debbie is a regular contributor to ITV's ‘Good Morning Britain’, ‘This Morning’, ‘The Jeremy Vine Show’, ‘GB News’, BBC's ‘Newsnight’ and many other current affairs and news programmes.

Apart from her soap career, Debbie has worked with some of the most legendary comedians and actors in the business on stage and on screen. Most notably starring opposite Omar Sharif in 'The Sleeping Prince' at the Haymarket Theatre. Debbie is currently Ambassador of the National Bullying Helpline, The Retired Police Railway Dogs. As well as her distinguished career Debbie is also the producer of ‘Actors at Sea’ for Saga Cruises.

WHAT HAVE YOU "GIVEN AND GAINED" RECENTLY?

I’ve always tried to help people coming into our business - getting agents, getting jobs, navigating everything - as I was born into the industry, I've probably got a contact or an answer for everything.

Recently I did panto at Esher Theatre, working with some young performers on their first professional job and I loved guiding them and in return they gave me confidence in what I was doing and really helped me too.

YOU HAVE APPEARED IN ALL 4 OF

THE MAJOR UK SOAPS - HOW DID YOU CARVE OUT SUCH A SUCCESSFUL ACTING CAREER?

I was born into show business - my father was an impressionist, and my mum was an Agent so I knew I wanted to do something in the industry.

But acting really happened by accident - I applied for a job in 'The Stage' and the rest is history!

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AND OVERCOME?

Far too many to list professionally but personally it was having my children. I had 9 miscarriages, but I did it....I had my girls - I never gave up.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO OVERCOME ANY DISCRIMINATION OR MISCONDUCT BEING "A WOMAN IN A MAN'S WORLD?"

I think being an actress it's hard to answer that because as 'actors' are always equal and until recently we couldn't play the other genders parts!

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE ASSUMPTIONS MADE BY MEN OF WOMEN?

That if you show off your figure you want them to ogle you!

THE ACTRESS Debbie Arnold

Everyone knows women only dress for other women to look at them!

WHAT DOES BEING A 'POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL' MEAN TO YOU?

In public and private being supportive, kind and always seeing a glass half full.

WHO ARE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

My mother and my grandmother - and now my two daughters.

My mother's parents were murdered in Auschwitz and she came here on the kinder transport when she was only 4 years old. She made a huge success in her life - she taught me values. 'As long as you have love, a roof over your head and food to eat nothing else matters'.

My father's mother lost her only son (my Daddy) when he was 34. She brought me up so my mum could work – and she never was sorry for herself or sad.

She was amazing - and my beautiful daughters are a mix of both of them.

This is a vocation - when working remember to leave your ego outside and watch and learn. No histrionicsactresses who are easy to work with will get more jobs than the temperamental ones. And if you don't get a job, it's not because you're not good enough it's because you're not right.

WHAT'S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

I always get what I want!

HOLISTIC HEALER Surinder Lall

Surinder, a Holistic Reflexologist based in Surrey. Some of her clients call her a healer – through the practice of holistic reflexology she can help ignite your own body’s natural ability to heal itself. Alternative therapy isn’t just a trend; it’s an informed choice.

WHAT HAVE YOU GIVEN AND GAINED?

Throughout my journey as a Holistic Reflexologist, I have encouraged clients to open up their hearts and minds in a space that is non-judgmental in order to heal and feel at peace with themselves. I give my time, skills and energy generously, and in doing so, helped to nurture an environment where my clients feel empowered to speak their truth and connect authentically.

Through simple affirmations like “it will be alright” and “you are not alone,” “ you are enough” and challenging thought-provoking questions like “who are you?” “who are you now after your life experiences, because you cannot be the person you were 10 years ago?” “where is your strength? who gives you your energy?” I empower women to reconnect with their inner strength and step forward with renewed confidence. My firm belief is healing your body starts from breath. Regaining emotional balance and strength is so important when starting your wellbeing journey, and I help to enable meaningful shifts in mind, body, and spirit, allowing the flow of energy to be free. Feeling that flow of your breath, encouraging your mind to silence, even for a few minutes ignites and allows the body to unblock stagnant energy, and almost magically, begins the process of healing, which is what this is all about. My work is about giving my clients the strength and support landing firmly on the path to transformation.

For myself, I have gained peace - peace of mind, soul, and spirit. I have grown stronger listening to the positive feedback I receive and the visible differences my work makes in my clients’ lives. The progression I observe from a client’s first session to their sixth brings me immense satisfaction and joy. This journey has filled me with calmness, gratitude for the soul work I do, and a profound sense of peace throughout my being.

HOW DID YOU COME TO START HOLISTIC REFLEXOLOGY AND MAKE IT A SUCCESS?

My passion for holistic healing began long ago, especially when faced with medical

conditions which set me back and actually focused me to deep dive into how and what I was actually consuming, and I don’t mean just nutrition. I realised that life’s challenges have an impact on your physical and mental state from quite a young age. Infact its not just an adult affliction, it may impact when you are very young, it’s not always possible to articulate or make sense of your emotions and feelings.

Faced with a chronic medical condition (Crohns Disease followed by a heart attack), I started to research alternative and natural ways to reduce the inflammation in my body. I found that small, mindful shifts like reducing stress impacted inflammation in your body and impacted how you felt. One of my most powerful discoveries was when looking at how to reduce stress, I realised how interconnected the mind is, and what a powerful organ just the thoughts that race through your mind have on your body. You have only to feel how nervous or sick you may become at the thought of sitting an examination, or before an important presentation, or how you feel after an argument. Your legs may go to jelly, you may feel sick/nauseous, you may sweat, or suffer restless nights, with your mind in overdrive. Stress does this. Imagine how it impacts disease in your body. Understanding that stress is a major factor blew my mind on how much damage it can and does do.

The more I practiced as a Holistic Reflexologist the more my curiosity about energy work grew. When faced with redundancy I committed to it full time, it was a very natural decision.

My journey unfolded in remarkable ways and with speed. What began as a few hours a week quickly expanded to three full days, and now I practice in two locations, sharing holistic reflexology with a diverse range of clients. My work grew simply by word of mouth. I became in some circles, known as the Healer. My clients often commented on how as soon as I started my work with them they would feel the effects during the session. I had one particular client who came in with terrible rash and eczema, during the treatment it started to dry up, by the following day 50% had disappeared. Both him and his wife could not believe it. 90% of my clients are recommendations though existing clients and this is how I prefer to work. I love the work I do. I love the results I get, and I love the fact that people come back to me time and time again knowing when their body needs it.

FEATURES Surinder Lall

HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED GENDERBASED CHALLENGES IN THE CORPORATE WORLD?

Yes absolutely ! During my time in the corporate world, I found myself navigating an environment that was predominantly male dominated. Although some of the biases were not always overt, they were very much present, often manifesting in subtle ways that many did not even consciously realise. For those who are observant and informed, these underlying biases become apparent quite quickly.

One of the most significant challenges I encountered was the reality of the gender pay gap. I am confident that several of the positions I held would have been remunerated differently had I been a man, highlighting the inequality in pay structures between men and women.

Another key difference I observed was in the language and methods men and women use to communicate success. Men typically present their achievements through data -figures, statistics, percentages, and ratioswhereas women are more inclined to share their success through stories and personal experiences. While both approaches are valid, this distinction can create a gap in how accomplishments are perceived and valued. Once this disparity is recognised, it becomes possible for women to adapt their communication style, enabling them to deliver more impactful messages and succeed within the existing corporate framework.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE ASSUMPTIONS MADE BY MEN OF WOMEN?

My message is simple: women are more than capable to be treated with respect, every woman has a voice and should use it.

The gender pay gap remains a persistent issue, and it is long overdue for women to have equal opportunities for training and career advancement as their male counterparts. These deeply rooted assumptions are among the most significant challenges faced by women in the workplace, as they shape both perception and ongoing experiences of women in professional environments. Changing these biases is essential, not only to transform the workplace but also to impact society as a whole.

The prejudices and traditional ways of thinking that continue to limit women are not confined to one region - they are a global reality. It is vital to bring these inequalities into the spotlight, ensuring that women receive the respect, opportunities, and recognition they deserve. True progress is not just about equality, but about equity: providing women with the resources and freedom to make independent decisions regarding marriage,

finances, family, and their own lives. The shifting balance of power raises important questions about social norms. We must move beyond a society where men have the authority to silence women or treat them as inferior. It is time to reshape the landscape, fostering an environment where women are empowered and their voices are heard.

WHAT DOES A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL MEAN TO YOU?

Being fearless in what you can achieve with authenticity, good values, respect for others, compassion and love. Being excellent in what you do and inspiring others to follow your

WHO ARE THE INFLUENTIAL WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE?

Maya Angelou - Maya Angelou has been a profound influence on my life, representing resilience and compassion in the face of adversity. She consistently demonstrated strength and advocated for women's rights within a male dominated world. Her poem, ‘Still I Rise’, remains a source of inspiration to me, and I frequently return to its verses whenever I need encouragement or fortitude.

My Aunt - My aunt was both glamorous and a dedicated career woman, choosing to break away from the traditional role of housewife. She placed great value on her professional life and was a staunch believer in equality for women. She frequently emphasised the importance of women making their own decisions and having financial independence. Growing up with such a strong role model shaped my outlook from a young age. She stood apart culturally from other women in our family, being the most academic and one of the first to attend university. My aunt consistently challenged not only the men but also the women around her, pushing boundaries and encouraging everyone to think beyond convention.

My Mum - My mum brought kindness, grace, and a sense of calm and peace to our home. She worked tirelessly and loved cooking, always eager to nourish those around her. Her life was filled with gratitude and love, and she provided a nurturing environment that deeply impacted me.

Go for it. Recognise the barriers or biases that might be holding you back and actively work to smash them –Celebrate your successes and inspire others to achieve.

WHAT'S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

The opportunities in life are limitless, look within you and you will find everything you need.

Victoria is a former pro model whose career in the 1990s spanned major television commercials, music videos and international campaigns, seeing her also work on productions alongside Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. She appeared in numerous national adverts, most notably for Birds Eye Peas and Guinness, as well as the iconic “Japan” campaign. She danced in the video for ‘Power’ with Helloween, appeared alongside rock legend Lemmy and featured in projects connected to The Prodigy. Her early career was high profile and fast paced, a life that stood in stark contrast to the path she would later choose.

Today, Victoria is co-founder and director of K-9 Angels, alongside fellow co-founder Pola Pospieszalska. Now in its 14th year and run entirely by volunteers, the charity has rehomed over 2,000 dogs and sterilised thousands more, preventing millions of unwanted births and significantly reducing longterm suffering. The charity’s patrons are Eamonn Holmes OBE and Sue Barker MBE and its work is practical and hands-on: building and supporting shelters, raising funds through organised events and endurance challenges, delivering ongoing medical care and food donations through its established international network, and maintaining a continuous sterilisation programme to address the root cause of overpopulation.

Over more than a decade in rescue, Victoria has witnessed the realities of neglect, abandonment and abuse first-hand. The work is emotionally demanding and often heartbreaking, but the team remains focused on measurable impact: fewer dogs born into suffering, more placed into secure homes, and sustainable systems built locally to prevent future crisis.

She is a long-standing vegan, mother to six rescue dogs and four rescue chickens, and regularly fosters traumatised dogs requiring rehabilitation before rehoming.

Victoria modelled at our Surrey Fashion Week celebrity charity catwalk show in 2022, at which her fellow K-9 Angel - BRIT Award-winning S Club star Jo O'Meara - headlined. Victoria, Oti Mabuse’s husband Marius Iepure and ‘Bond’ star Jason Burrill wore matching outfits with Victoria’s Romanian rescue dogs as they walked them down our star-studded catwalk! Alongside her charity work, Victoria co-founded The Vegan Women’s Club with close friend Karin Ridgers, building a values-led community of likeminded women committed to ethical living, leadership and creating a kinder, more accountable world.

Victoria is also a judge for this year’s Autism Hero Awards, which recognise and celebrate excellence within the autism community. A life of two contrasts, from commercial modelling and rock videos to frontline rescue and community activism, she says she wouldn’t want it any other way.

WHAT HAVE YOU “GIVEN AND GAINED” RECENTLY?

THE PHILANTHROPIST Victoria Featherstone Pearce

Recently I’ve given more time to prevention, particularly expanding our sterilisation work through K-9 Angels. Rehoming changes individual lives, but prevention changes the future. Every sterilisation stops generations of suffering before it begins. I’ve also invested more energy into strengthening The Vegan Women’s Club, building a solid community of women who don’t just talk about values, but live them. Personally, I’ve given time to myself in a way I hadn’t before. I’ve worked seriously on my mental health and addressed childhood trauma, abuse and domestic abuse that shaped many of my earlier years. For a long time, I lived in survival mode. I functioned, achieved and pushed forward, but I was surviving. What I’ve gained is self-love, stability and perspective. I’m not saying life is perfect - it isn’t - but I am the most wellrounded and happiest I’ve ever been. I now live with the understanding that anything is possible when we have the right people around us and when we do the internal work alongside the external work.

HOW DID K-9 ANGELS COME ABOUT?

We saw a Facebook plea from a complete stranger asking for 40 euros to help a dog who had been abandoned and was “living” in a cardboard box in a forest. We took a chance and sent the money. That decision changed everything. The dog was saved, and we later named her Angel. We found her the most beautiful home. Seeing that transformation made something very clear. If one small action could change one life, what could we do collectively? With our extensive network of contacts, experience and determination, we realised we could help many more dogs. That is how K-9 Angels was born. It is not easy to run a charity. The responsibility is constant. The emotional weight is real. But it is absolutely worth it.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AND OVERCOME?

The biggest challenge has been emotional endurance. When you work in rescue for over a decade, you see everything: neglect, cruelty,

Victoria Featherstone Pearce

abandonment and suffering that could have been prevented. You witness the very best of humanity and the very worst. Learning how to stay compassionate without becoming hardened is something I have had to consciously work at.

Financial pressure is a constant reality. Running a volunteer-led charity means responsibility never switches off. You are always thinking about the next vet bill, the next transport, the next emergency case. There is no corporate safety net. It is built on trust, transparency and relentless fundraising.

Personally, I live with PTSD, shaped by childhood trauma and domestic abuse. For many years I operated in survival mode. That survival instinct helped me achieve and push forward, but it was not sustainable. Addressing my mental health properly has been one of the hardest and most important things I have done. Resilience is not about pretending nothing affects you: it is about recognising what has affected you, doing the work, and choosing to build a stronger foundation.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO OVERCOME ANY DISCRIMINATION OR MISCONDUCT BEING “A WOMAN IN A MAN’S WORLD?”

Yes, but not always in obvious ways. Often it is subtle: being underestimated, being spoken over, having compassion mistaken for weakness, or having your authority quietly questioned. In my earlier career in modelling and media, image often spoke louder than substance. Later, in charity and leadership spaces, I ensured my work spoke louder than perception. I do not try to lead like a man, and I do not feel the need to. I lead in alignment with my values: clear, firm, collaborative and accountable. Consistency builds credibility. Results build respect.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE ASSUMPTIONS MADE BY MEN OF WOMEN?

I would challenge the assumption that strength has to look dominant, loud or traditionally masculine. Strength comes in many forms, including physical strength. I recently pushed a 250kg sled in training, something often associated with rugby conditioning. I am not saying women naturally have greater physical strength than men, but a woman who trains consistently and pushes herself can become exceptionally strong. And this is being seen more and more. Women have historically been the carers and nurturers. Those roles require enormous endurance, emotional intelligence and resilience. Only in more recent times are those strengths being fully recognised. Women have always had an array of strengths. We are simply no longer shrinking them.

WHAT DOES BEING A ‘POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODEL’ MEAN TO YOU?

It means alignment. If you advocate compassion, you practice it. If you speak about resilience, you build it. If you talk about integrity, you uphold it. Role models are not perfect. They are accountable. They show that rebuilding is possible. For me, it’s about demonstrating that you can be physically strong, emotionally aware, ambitious, nurturing, disciplined and compassionate at the same time.

WHO ARE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Growing up, I did not have a clear personal role model or cheerleader. I learned to rely on myself. For many years that independence came from survival rather than confidence. I have always been inspired by women who challenged the status quo. The suffragettes stand out profoundly. Women who were

willing to be imprisoned, force-fed and publicly ridiculed so future generations could have a voice. Their courage reshaped history. I also admire Pamela Anderson for consistently using her platform to advocate for animal welfare. She could have remained silent and simply enjoyed fame, but she chose to speak up for animals long before it was widely embraced. That takes conviction.

In the past five years, the greatest shift has been internal. I realised it is important not only to look outward for role models, but to become one for yourself. To build your own standards and lead from within?

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS AND WOMEN?

Do the internal work early. Build your self-worth before the world tries to define it for you. Choose your circle carefully. The right people will expand you. The wrong people will drain you. Do not shrink to make others comfortable. Become your own standard.

WHAT’S YOUR MANTRA IN LIFE?

Be you, everyone else is taken. Every day is a chance to become 1% better. Growth does not have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Small improvements compound. If that 1% does not happen, do not beat yourself up. The fact you tried is more than good enough. Progress is not perfection. It is effort. It’s showing up again the next day. Lead with action, not noise. Fourteen years of rescue. Continuous training. Ongoing community building. Discipline. Integrity. Compassion in action. Be kind, the world needs more kindness.

BORDELAISE SURBITON

On a Tuesday evening, the day before my birthday, little did I know what a treat lay in store, when I arrived at the jewel in the crown of Surbiton; the new Bordelaise French Bistro & Steakhouse, located on the beautiful, tree-lined Maple Road. It was a pre-birthday treat indeed.

Bordelaise serves the finest and freshest French cuisine including sensational starters, marvellous mains (with Steak to die for) and delectable desserts.

This stunning new restaurant marks the third opening for the charismatic and talented French proprietor, Olivier Cohen. You can also visit Bordelaise in Ewell or Tooting; or, even better, all three!

Hope you enjoy reading about this fabulous, new Surrey restaurant.

TO START

We both ordered two starters, my ultimate goal - to taste as many dishes as possible to assess as much of the menu for you - our lovely readers.

The most classic dish of them all, ‘French Onion Soup’ was served with a bread and cheese accompaniment that worked ridiculously well together. This beautifully presented dish was

RESTAURANT REVIEW

standout.

Our second starter, ‘Torched Mackerel’, was an appetising dish, silky, subtle and accentuated by the pickled grapes that created a wonderful balance of flavours.

Next the ‘Snails Served in Persillade Butter’ were cooked just right in a rich but not overpowering garlic sauce. Possibly one of my favourite dishes of this fantastic food adventure, I could taste the French countryside with every mouthful.

The final starter, the ‘In-House Cured

Salmon’ was sublime, with a light and dynamic taste - simply sensational.

FOR MAINS

Once again 2 main courses each and for me and my happiest of companions, Shane, who must have thought he had struck gold by attending this review!

Possibly the simplest and most delightful dish of the day was the ‘Homemade Confit Duck’ which was

RESTAURANT

served with a delicious bacon and lentil casserole.

Such an age-old recipe, it is not inconceivable that the cream of the French Cavalry that tragically fell at Agincourt could have dined on such a grand, noble dish. The duck was extremely tender and the skin crispy – a huge nod to the head chef Dax for getting it “just right”.

Another sensational offering was the classic ‘Surf & Turf’. A perfectly Grilled Flat Iron Steak, with large Prawns, crispy French Fries and garlic butter to die for. The third dish of ‘Cotes de Boef’ was authentic, flavoursome and delicious. It was served with rich,

RESTAURANT REVIEW

substantially creamy Dauphinios Potatoes and an exquisite Peppercorn Sauce.

Last, but by no means, least was the delicious ‘Lemon Sole’ - cooked to “melt in the mouth” perfection. This wonderful dish was accompanied with New Potatoes, Capers and Butter Sauce and a Side Dish of Caramelised Carrots.

RESTAURANT REVIEW

TO

FINISH

We confronted the delicious Bordelaise Dessert Menu after two enjoyable rounds with the previous courses, my new found best friend Shane, had my back on these – as I was filling up fast.

The classic Bordelaise ‘Creme Brulée’ was perfectly presented, light in constitution with an amazing caramel flavour, complimented perfectly with the crunchy Brulée topping.

Next up the ‘Apple Tartin with Glaze’ was pert, refreshing and palate cleansing made with delicious fresh apples you could taste the goodness of this dish.

The third dessert, the ‘Chocolate Flan’ was so mouth-wateringly scrumptious with a delicious crumbly pastry base and devine chocolate filling, Shane commented how he would be back for this dish alone.

5 STARS FOR BORDELAISE SURBITON STAFF

The elegant ease with which the staff work together so effortlessly has to be applauded.

Diana, the Manageress, with her elegant manner; her Assistant

Manager Agnes, was charming and radiant and Michael a local born, Sous Chef was another true talent, as was French waiter Simon from Montlucon in central France, while the insanely creative Head Chef Dax, created these age-old French Classic's with pinache.

Victoria, the newly-turned full time Bar Mixologist, was also at the very top of her game.

She made an absolutely fabulous Strawberry Mojito. The sharp exotic flavours so perfectly blended with the cool ice, took my breath away and took me floating on a distant cloud back to a beach somewhere in St Tropez on a beautiful summer’s day….beautiful people, beautiful restaurant and a beautiful drink. Well done all.

IN SUMMARY

The open plan of the kitchen at Bordelaise Surbiton demands close scrutiny of the well-heeled patrons with cleanliness and hygiene obviously at the forefront of importance to this supremely, well-run establishment.

The food was “tres chic” and the setting and ambience “tres jolie,” Shane said.

"Les Blues, so superbly led by Zinedine Zidan to a glorious World Cup in 1998 under the gaze of La Tour Eiffel. So too with legendary master chefs of France, champions of cuisine. There can be no higher accolade than the stars of "Michelin", Marcus added of his Bordelaise experience.

Congratulations Olivier, Diana, Agnes and your amazing team for bringing us your third, wonderful French Bistro & Steakhouse –we will definitely be back soon.

HAPPY MONDAYS HIT GUILDFORD’S G LIVE

From IMPACT Live! to G Live, Happy Mondays hit the road this Spring for a massive tour taking in Guildford on 10th April, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their landmark album ‘Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on tour with the Mondays in 2026, especially with our old mates The Farm, who are touring with us,” says frontman Shaun Ryder. Shaun, Bez and the full Mondays line-up will deliver the album’s iconic singles ‘Step On,’ ‘Kinky Afro’ and ‘Loose Fit’, alongside classics like ‘24 Hour Party People’ and ‘Hallelujah’ at state-of-the-art entertainment venue G Live.

“Really excited to be going back on tour again in the UK!” says Bez. “I love being on the road with the Mondays, there is no better feeling than playing to the fans of live music.”

Happy Mondays pioneered the Madchester sound after signing to Tony Wilson’s Factory Records in the late ‘80s, blending their love of funk, rock, psychedelia and house with the sounds of the UK’s emerging rave scene.

The band became icons of Britain’s biggest cultural phenomenon for a generation when they crossed over into the mainstream with ‘Pills 'n' Thrills And Bellyaches’, which went platinum in the UK becoming one of the decade’s defining albums, putting the band firmly on the map as one of the most influential bands to come out of Britain in the early 1990s.

Supporting Oasis on their 'Standing On The Shoulder of Giants' arena tour, as well as playing numerous festivals worldwide, Happy Mondays' reputation as one of Britain’s most

influential and best-loved bands was recognised in 2016 when they won the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award.

Sadly, Shaun’s brother Paul, the band’s bassist and founding member, passed away a few years ago. Paul was key behind the band's idiosyncratic groove and unique sound, putting the funk into their funkadelic northern powerhouse sound that was so influential.

Very special guests The Farm, meanwhile, made their breakthrough in 1990, with the first of their nine Top 40 singles being the huge hits ‘Groovy Train’ and the evergreen ‘All Together Now’.

The Farm’s lead singer, Peter Hooton, says, “We are absolutely delighted to be joining the Happy Mondays as special guests on their forthcoming tour. We go back a long way, having first met them at one of our gigs at the Boardwalk Manchester in 1986, when their style and attitude struck a chord. We also played with them at the legendary Elland Road gig in 1991 and toured with them in 2005, so we can’t wait for these gigs. It will be like a meeting of the tribes once again!”

Completing the bill will be the Happy Mondays’ fellow Mancunians and former Factory Records labelmates Northside.

SHAUN & BEZ TALK MUSIC, MIRACLES, MARRIAGE & THE ROCK'N'ROLL ROAD

Shaun Ryder and Bez look back at the madness, music and miracles of still being Happy Mondays. From autocues to viral fame, sexless marriages to survival, they tell the story their wayunfiltered.

“I've been playing those songs for so long that it all just becomes second nature,” says Shaun re. revisiting ‘Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches’.

“It all sort of flows together now, you know what I mean? I don't sit there thinking, ‘Oh, this is that iconic album’, even though everyone else does. To me, they're just our tunes. But it still sounds good - proper good - like it could've been made today. I don't really notice the years on it because we've never stopped playing the bloody thing. It's part of the furniture now!”

Thirty five years on, which moment in the live set still gives him the biggest buzz? “That's changed loads over the years. I mean, I've gone through phases where I've absolutely f**king hated everything - hated touring, hated myself, hated the lifestyleand then phases where I've loved it and then hated it again. But now? Now I just f**king enjoy it more than ever. It's mad. I get a buzz now more than I did when we were kids. Maybe it's because the sex and drugs have gone - all that madness - and now it's just the rock'n'roll road. And I'm enjoying the road. You get older, and you appreciate the crowds more, the band more, the songs more. I get a buzz off the whole thing every night, and I never expected that.”

CAUSING CHAOS - UNREAL HAPPY MONDAY

MOMENTS

Looking back to the Happy Mondays' wildest days, what moment still feels completely unreal?

“The unreal thing is simply that we're actually still in the band after all this time,” says Bez.

“That's the bit that blows my mind. If you'd thought back all those years ago, when we set out as young fellas chasing a dream, causing chaos everywhere we went, you'd never have imagined we'd be here now as 60-odd-year-old fellas, planning gigs and getting the band back together again. Just being here, still doing it, still being the Happy Mondays. The fact that we survived it all, physically and mentally, is unbelievable.”

How does Shaun cope with remembering lyrics today? “Oh, I still can't remember any of the f**king lyrics I wrote - not a chance. If you take the autocue away, forget it. I'd be starting a song with the second verse, mixing lines up, putting the chorus where the middle eight should be, all sorts. Now I know whyit's my ADHD, dyslexia, all the things I've got going on in my head. We played with Bowie in the early '90s, and even he had a massive lyric screen he'd glance at. If it's good enough for Bowie, it's good enough for me.”

The Mondays' songs still land strongly with audiences who weren't there the first time around. “Back in the f**king '80s, a lot of the stuff around was total s**t, so we were digging into the underground, listening to The Doors, all that kind of thing. We were trying to make something different,” Shaun explains. “And good music is good music - that's it. Something like ‘24 Hour Party People’ still sounds like it could've been written today. People connect with it because it's timeless - not because we meant it to be, but because that's what came out.”

GOGGLEBOX, CELEB JUNGLE, BIG BROTHER & GORILLAZ

‘Gogglebox’ opened this entertaining pair up to a whole new crowd, seeing younger fans discover them through TV.

What surprised them most about filming ‘Gogglebox’ together? “The power of television — it's not what it seems…” says Bez. “But the great thing is the company behind it. They're brilliant to work for, really friendly, great production set-up, proper nice people. And they ply you with whiskey and Guinness, which is dangerous for me and Shaun,” he laughs. “Once we get a bit too much whiskey in us, whatever comes out of my mouth is stuff you could never show on TV.”

“When Bez did ‘Big Brother’ back in 2005, he brought a whole new young fanbase to the band,” Shaun explains. “When I

did the jungle in 2010, the same thing - loads of new people suddenly knew who we were. And every time we do things like ‘Storage Hunters’, we pick up more!”

“You get the young 'uns watching all that stuff on their iPads. These two old d**kheads - me and him. They watch us for 20 minutes, then check out the music, and the next thing you know, they're at the shows. Our fanbase now goes from f**king 10 year-olds to people in their nineties.”

“Yeah, it's mad,” adds Bez. “At the gigs now, there's a proper cross-section of people - mums, dads, kids, grandparents, all sorts. It's turned into a family occasion. It’s great seeing that generational thing.”

Clips of the two constantly go viral, seeing TikTok and social media bringing in new fans. “Loads of kids found out about us because the Gorillaz tune was used on TikTok — no idea why, but it worked!”

Mark ‘Bez’ Berry joined the band on stage during a live performance after befriending Shaun and became the band’s dancer and percussionist. “It was timing, wasn't it?,” says Bez. “You couldn't get a better moment - the whole ecstasy explosion, the culture, the energy in Manchester. We were at the very forefront of it, first in every way. Me and Shaun rode that wave right from the start. I don't know how it happened - I just went with it!”

“Sometimes I can't believe the luck I've had. Being a Happy Monday gave me freedom - proper freedom - and not many people today get that kind of freedom to live life in a free and honest way. I'm blown away by it sometimes. I thank people for letting me be a Happy Monday because it gave me a way of life that most people never get. So no, I can't complain about the chaos - it's part of who I am.”

Shaun and Bez’s partnership has survived many bumps in the road. “Our friendship is like a sexless marriage,” Shaun explains. “We don’t have sex – that’s why it works. We are married… and sexless.”

Despite the fallouts, the bond between the boys is still strong. “We've been through a hell of a lot,” adds Bev. “As Shaun says, it's really like a sexless marriage because we've been together for so long. Being a Happy Monday is a proper roller coaster - the ups, the downs, the lows, the highs. You can't write this f**king s**t. We've had some big fallouts, yet, after everything, we're still really good friends. That's what it's about - being able to go through all that emotion with somebody. It's rare, really rare.”

Don’t miss Happy Mondays, featuring special guests The Farm and Northside, at G Live on 10th April. Further info at www.happymondaysofficial.co.uk

2026 Hot Stars!

Your Astrology Forecast from PIA TALBOT

Aries

21 MAR – 20 APR

2026 is starting strong for you Aries, as you are honing your skills and working hard on the next achievement. However, don’t fear going through this alone, as there are people close to you that will help along the way. It is unlikely they will be at the forefront of your plans, and will step back to allow you to shine, but nonetheless will be there for you if you need support. Think of something you want to achieve this year. Now turn your attention towards who you think will be best suited to help you get what you want. Remember to trust that other people are as knowledgeable as you are.

Taurus

21 APR – 20 MAY

Being out of control is very distressing for you Taurus. 2025 seemed to be out of your control and it’s time to take the reins back. You know what you like and how you like it. There’s nothing wrong with this. Could you sometimes learn to be a bit more flexible? Yes, but this will come in time. For now, you have a commitment to your values and ideals that will get you back on track. Once you feel you have regained some control back into your life, you can focus on letting go step by step. Don’t overwhelm yourself too quickly. You have the time to go as slowly as you need. Trust the process. You’ve got this!

Gemini

21 MAY – 21 JUNE

Buckle in Gemini, as 2026 is starting with a bang! You are not short of things to do and it is unlikely you will be bored in the coming weeks. This is a positive for you, as Gemini’s worst enemy is boredom. All these responsibilities may not be easy, but you are more than capable of not only getting through them but flourishing because of them. This isn’t the time to procrastinate. More than any sign, you have the energy to get jobs done and focus your energy on what’s important. Keep pushing yourself to be the best you can be. You don’t lack motivation, so keep going and keep being you.

Cancer

22 JUNE – 23 JULY

2025 was your year of reflection, Cancerian, and now it’s time to make some difficult decisions. You have thought through your options enough and whether you believe it or not, are ready to come to a conclusion. Remember how important it is to do right by yourself. It can be easier to make decisions with other people’s happiness in mind, but it is hugely important that you cultivate a life that makes you happy as well. Deep down you know what you truly want, and sometimes it can be hard to admit this to ourselves, but the sooner you do, the happier you’ll be.

Leo

24 JULY – 23 AUG

2025 was a year of growth for you Leo. However, with all this growing you experienced many trials and tribulations, leaving you focused on the negatives and ignoring the positives. It’s time to get back to that almost childlike state of hoping for the best and dreaming big. Don’t allow the pessimistic nature of our world to push that side of you down. Approach each day this year with an open mind. You never know what day may turn out to be the best of your life. Try to have fun, even in the times you find stressful or boring. Make the most of your year and see how a shift in mindset can transform your life.

Virgo

24 AUG – 23 SEPT

2026 brings you a period of selfreflection in order to re-examine your priorities Virgo. You are likely to feel a new calling in your life, but your day-to-day routine isn’t matching up with this. It’s time to connect your outer world with your inner world. It’s all well and good to think about what you want, but now is the time to go for it. Make subtle changes so that your whole life doesn’t change in one day. Take some time right now to think about what it is you want your life to look like. Allow yourself the space to reflect before starting on your new journey. This year is going to be a big one for you!

24 SEPT – 23 OCT

I am very happy to say, Libra, that your pain and sadness is coming to an end. The end of 2025 brought some difficulties into your life, but you are now being released from these woes. This is all down to you. You are releasing the memories of the past and allowing yourself to move into the future. There is a sense of hope about your upcoming year. You are being reborn into a brand new you. If your mind tries to revisit past events, acknowledge your feelings, and gently flow past them. There’s no point in ignoring what you’ve been through, but don’t dwell on any pain you may have previously felt.

SCORPIO

24 OCT – 22 NOV

Scorpio - we need to talk. Why have you been so hard on yourself recently? You should be so proud of everything you have achieved in 2025. 2026 is all about your dreams coming true. It’s safe to say you have worked extremely hard over the year, and you are now going to see the fruits of your labour finally blossom! Don’t limit yourself by dreaming too small. You have the right mindset to go after what you want. Use the beginning of this year to dream big and explore all exciting aspects of your life. You can do anything you set your mind to; you just have to believe it and believe in yourself.

Sagittarius

23 NOV – 21 DEC

As someone who exudes determination and courage, it is likely you have had struggles with confidence, especially throughout 2025. Somewhere along the way, you have felt undeserving of what you have in your life. 2026 is going to fix that. This is a year for YOU. Regain that confidence you once had. Start believing that you are worthy of every little bit of positivity in your life. Why wouldn’t you be? You are a hard worker and a kind soul. However, remember to show the more vulnerable side of your personality. If you’re feeling anxious don’t hide it away. Accept all parts of who you are, and work on a way forward.

Aquarius

21 JAN – 19 FEB

See this as your sign of encouragement Aquarius! Your mind is in ‘expansion mode’ now, leading you to become your most creative and innovative self. You are embracing new ideas and are jumping at the next chance to learn something new. You naturally crave stimulation, and 2026 invites you to produce original ideas only you could dream up. You may be feeling as if you’re floating on a cloud. Go with it. Flow freely without thought of the past. See where these ideas take you, as knowing you Aquarius, it’s going to be an extremely interesting place! Let you mind take over and explore.

Capricorn

22 DEC – 20 JAN

You are a planner Capricorn, and 2026 is going to be all about your long-term view. This is the time to assess where you can best put your time and energy in to get the best results. There’s no point anymore putting effort into an area of your life you’re not getting anything back from. 2025 was an experimental year for you, with lots of trial and error. You now know what works and what doesn’t. Reap the rewards for your hard work and take a large step back from energy-sappers in your life. Focus on the road ahead and not on detours that will end up hurting more than helping.

Pisces

20 FEB – 20 MAR

You are at your most creative Pisces and it’s time to put this into action. You’re getting inspired at the most random moments and it is now too much to keep to yourself. If you are afraid to put yourself out there, just tell one person one of your ideas you may think is crazy and see how they react. Chances are your ideas are actually incredible; you just can’t quite see the vision yet (this is where an Aquarius comes in handy!) If you don’t already have one, buy a beautiful notebook to write down everything that comes into your head. Your potential is limitless. You have nothing to fear.

A beautifully Danish SS26 collection

Design with intention from BoConcept

For Spring/Summer 2026, BoConcept continues to evolve its philosophy of The Art of Living Danishly — a celebration of simplicity, balance and the beauty of the everyday. This season explores how thoughtful design and personal expression come together to create spaces that feel calm, connected and distinctly individual, re ecting both lifestyle and personality.

Central to the collection is the return of Helena Christensen as curator and creative force. Her new Catskills collection captures the restorative spirit of the landscape that inspires it, pairing Danish craftsmanship with tactile materials and cocooning silhouettes. A velvet lounge chair and uted wooden side table introduce softness and intimacy, while two new Bologna Velvet tones — Sky Blue and Mouse Belly — bring expressive depth to the palette. The result is a sensory collection that feels both serene and characterful, balancing Danish minimalism with poetic individuality.

In contrast, BoConcept’s rst collaboration with Copenhagen studio Atelier Axo presents a re ned architectural dining

series. Crafted in Natural and Dark Oak veneer, alongside a striking round Travertine table, the Axo collection balances sculptural precision with warmth and tactility. Designed as a complete dining environment, it re ects a contemporary Scandinavian sensibility — honest, timeless and made for gathering, where proportion and materiality work in quiet harmony.

Elsewhere, the sculptural Nawabari lounge chair, created with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, expands the artful character of the season. Expressive yet inviting, it forms intimate lounge moments while maintaining everyday comfort, its bound, architectural form designed to stand the test of time.

Practicality is woven throughout SS26. The Lucerne sleeper sofa embodies the brand’s commitment to versatile living, seamlessly adapting to modern lifestyles, while elevated customisation options ensure each piece can be tailored to personal taste. Because living Danishly is not about rules, but intention — creating a home that re ects how you truly want to live, every single day.
