President’s Message – The Aussies 2026

Welcome to the 2026 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, proudly hosted this year by the North Kirra, Tugun and Bilinga Surf Life Saving Clubs.

As the largest surf lifesaving event in the world, the Aussies stands as a true showcase of our movement’s strength, unity and passion.

It is fantastic to be back on the Gold Coast after the success of last year’s event and also following a challenging period for our coastline and our communities throughout 2025. Through it all, I remain incredibly proud of this remarkable movement. Every competitor here is also a volunteer surf lifesaver who has continued to show up, support others and serve their communities, no matter the circumstances. I look forward to seeing that same spirit and heart shine through over the coming days.

This year’s theme – United, Inspired, Iconic – is embodied by more than 7,000 competitors from across Australia who come together not only to race, but to celebrate what makes surf lifesaving such a powerful and enduring presence.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of Tourism and Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast, whose partnership helps bring this event to life. It is always a pleasure to return to these iconic Gold Coast beaches, and we look forward to nine days of outstanding competition.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the officials, volunteers, safety personnel and staff who make this event possible. Your dedication ensures the Aussies remains a highlight of the Surf Life Saving calendar, and it is a privilege to witness the passion and professionalism you bring to this event.

To all competitors – good luck and enjoy every moment. Whether you’re competing on the sand, in the water, in a surf boat, taking part in our adaptive events or the lifesaving/first aid scenarios, I wish you all the very best.

We are fiercely lucky to be part of this community, and I hope you carry that spirit with you into every race, every challenge and every opportunity to represent surf lifesaving at its best.

The Aussies will deliver a quintessential Queensland experience and contributes to Queensland’s $1.3 billion-dollar 2026 events calendar.

Queensland’s growing calendar of events plays a vital role in driving visitation and showcasing the very best of what our state has to offer.

2026 Mayor Welcome Message

Talk to any diehard surf lifesaving athlete about their dreams and ambitions and two words always come to the fore: The Aussies.

For many, The Aussies are the holy grail of surf lifesaving competition and a chance to showcase their skills against the best-of-the-best across nine magical days of competition and camaraderie.

This year marks the 30th edition of this national carnival on the Gold Coast and I thank Surf Life Saving Australia for its continued faith. We won’t let you down.

I pay special thanks to the 600 local volunteers who will support more than 7500 athletes across 570 events. This event is only possible thanks to your generosity and support.

For the southern Gold Coast clubs hosting The Aussies, I know you will roll out the welcome mat at Kirra, Tugun and Bilinga, welcoming competitors from the youth categories through to Open and Masters athletes.

Showcasing our city’s open beaches, support services and natural attractions is invaluable as we continue to promote the coast as the No 1 event and holiday destination.

When the competition is over, take time to stay a little longer, party a little harder and explore our incredible backyard. It’s your time to Get Up and Gold Coast!

Message from Rachael Rylance

On behalf of the SLSA Sport Advisory Committee, it’s my pleasure to welcome all clubs, competitors, and visitors to the 2026 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

A huge thank you to North Kirra SLSC, Tugun SLSC and Bilinga SLSC for your support in preparing our championship venues and for proudly hosting us this year. With events stretching from North Kirra all the way up to Miami for Board Riding, we’re set to enjoy the very best of the Gold Coast across these nine exciting days. I have no doubt the atmosphere, beaches and the energy of this place will make it an unforgettable Aussies for everyone.

The Aussies have a unique way of bringing out the very best in all of us. They remind us that every moment of triumph or disappointment is part of the journey towards something greater. As our members chase the ultimate honour of becoming Australian Champions, they also showcase the courage, resilience and spirit that define surf lifesaving.

I have every confidence that this year’s Championships will inspire us with extraordinary performances and create memories that will stay with us long after the competition ends.

I encourage each of you to step into your events with pride, determination, and the true spirit of our movement—and when the racing is done, to come together in the friendships, camaraderie, and joy that make the Aussies more than a competition - they make it a community.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to all our officials, powercraft team, support crew and first aid personnel for the time, energy and commitment you bring to making this event possible. Your dedication underpins the success of the Aussies, and we are truly grateful. I also acknowledge the SLSA Sport team, whose tireless work behind the scenes ensures this event comes together so seamlessly.
