Destination: India – A SixLane Round Trip
Near Melbourne, Austrak Management & Consulting Pty Ltd developed the Somerton Business Park, a major logistics hub extending for more than one kilometre, with direct connections to the region’s main highways and airports. Given the scale of the project, operational efficiency was essential. Material generated from excavation and concrete demolition was processed directly on site using an MB Crusher BF120.4 crusher bucket mounted on the excavator already working on the project. The recycled material was then reused to build internal roads and infrastructure throughout the development. Cummins Inc. has announced updates to its Model Year 2027 North American on-highway product launch plans following its review of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s recently proposed changes to upcoming emissions regulations. Based on the proposed rule, Cummins intends to use the implementation flexibilities outlined by EPA to support a measured transition to its new HELM™ engine platforms. The approach is designed to maintain regulatory compliance, support customer production schedules and provide additional time to ramp production in a disciplined manner that helps ensure a successful transition for the industry. “Our long-term product strategy has not changed,” said Jennifer Rumsey, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cummins Inc. “This is about improving the transition, not changing the destination. OFF HIGHWAY TRUCKS
Cummins plans to begin limited production of the Model Year 2027 X10 in January 2027, with full production expected by Q3 2027, based on OEM launch plans. During the transition, the current X12 and L9 engines used in truck and transit bus applications are expected to remain available. The Model Year 2027 X10 and X15 are part of Cummins’ fuel-agnostic HELM platforms, which build on decades of engine development experience. The platforms are designed to deliver improved fuel economy, similar diesel exhaust fluid consumption and the proven, field-tested reliability customers need to complete their missions.
the company’s next-generation B platform is expected to launch in January 2028. The current B6.7 will remain available through 2027 to support customer production schedules and ensure a smooth transition to the new platform.
Next Steps Cummins will continue working closely with OEMs, dealers, fleets and other partners to align product availability and launch timing. The phased ramp is intended to better support the transition to new technology. The updated product plan is based on Cummins’ preliminary assessment and the language currently included in EPA’s proposed rule. Cummins will continue monitoring development of the final rule and will carefully evaluate the rule to ensure it maintains the flexibilities Cummins is counting on. Product plans and timing may be adjusted if the final rule differs materially from the current proposal, including potential changes to the proposed transition provisions. SP

Integrated with advanced joystick controls, it features dedicated operational control.
Proven tough, the removeable and replaceable shanks and teeth are the same design as those used on Cat motor graders, and its multi-shank design allows the operator to select the number of shanks necessary for the application. The ripper/scarifier’s unique parallelogram linkage design allows shanks and teeth to rotate inward when raised to maximize machine departure angle. Hydrogen-Powered JCB Hydromax Sets Speed Record British engineering giant JCB has set a new world land speed record of 406.320 mph with its hydrogen-powered JCB Hydromax. The car recorded the average speed 400.623 mph in its first run across the Bonneville Salt Flats, and 412.135 mph on its second run, giving the average of 406.320 mph - the fastest a hydrogen internal combustion car has ever travelled. Driven by Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, the twin engined, 32-foot car completed the two runs required under FIA rules - one in each direction within an hour - comfortably beating the previous FIA-officiated
hydrogen internal combustion benchmark of 185.5 mph set by the BMW H2R in 2004. The record is subject to official ratification by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport. In doing so, JCB Hydromax surpassed the 350.092 mph world diesel land speed record set by JCB Dieselmax — also driven by Green, on the same salt, in August 2006. Twenty years on, JCB has beaten its own benchmark
with an engine that produces no CO₂ at the tailpipe. The speed also exceeds the 303 mph hydrogen fuel cell mark — making JCB Hydromax the fastest hydrogenpowered vehicle of any kind in history. The record - set in the Category A, Group XIV - Class 7 FIA World Flying Record Start Land Speed Record - was set using two of JCB’s own production-based hydrogen digger engines, producing a combined 1,600 bhp and manufactured at the company’s engine factory in Foston, Derbyshire, UK. Bamford has led JCB’s hydrogen engine project and came up with the idea of a hydrogen world land speed record bid early last year. “Twenty years ago we came to Bonneville with JCB Dieselmax and showed what British engineering could do with diesel power,” said Lord Bamford. “Today we have done it again — this time with engines powered by hydrogen. This record was set by production-based engines, the same engines powering JCB diggers right now. That is the point of JCB Hydromax: it shows hydrogen works, and it works today at the highest level with zero emissions.” Andy Green said: “Bonneville is the spiritual home of the world land speed record, and JCB Hydromax has just written itself into that history. The car was terrific — stable, strong and fast. Setting a world land speed record with hydrogen power, twenty years after Dieselmax, is a huge privilege. This record

This cleverly prevents unwanted accumulation of material on the grab. The grab can be equipped with one or two powerful rotary drives, depending on whether higher speed or greater torque is required. A sturdy sheet-metal cover protects them from external influences. Choosing The Best Bucket For Rock, Rip Rap, And Aggregate Rock, rip rap, and aggregate create heavy wear on bucket cutting edges, floors, and sidewalls. Choose a bucket based on material abrasiveness, impact, and rehandling frequency—not simply the heaviest option available. If you’ve ever watched a general-purpose bucket get chewed up in a quarry, you already know the answer to “can I just use what I’ve got?” You can… for a while. Then the cutting edge rounds off, the floor thins out, and you’re buying a new bucket way ahead of schedule. Working with Werk-Brau and a number of dealers across the U.S., I’ve seen too many customers trying to save money up front and regretting it when the bucket ultimately fails prematurely or delays production during repairs. On the flipside, I have also seen end users that wanted a bucket that was unnecessarily heavy for their application, which costs them efficiency, fuel consumption, and unnecessary wear on the machine linkage. Rock, rip rap, and aggregate are three of the tough-
est materials a wheel loader bucket will ever face. They’re heavy, they’re abrasive, and they’re unforgiving on anything not built specifically to handle them. So the real question isn’t just “what’s the best bucket”, it’s “what’s the best bucket for my application, my material, and my budget.” That’s what we’ll break down here: a Good, Better, Best comparison so you can match the right bucket to the job instead of guessing.
Why Rock, Rip Rap, and Aggregate Are So Hard on Buckets Before comparing options, it helps to understand what’s happening to your bucket every time it goes into the pile. Rock and shot rock are sharp, dense, and irregular. Every pass drags jagged edges across the floor and side
plates, and the impact loading on breakout is far higher than in dirt or sand. Rip rap is large, angular stone used in erosion control and slope stabilization and is often handled in a rehandling application: picked up off a stockpile, loaded into a truck. That means more scraping, more impact, and more stress concentrated at the cutting edge and floor of the bucket. Aggregate (crushed stone, gravel, sand-gravel mixes) is more abrasive by volume than people expect. Even though individual pieces are smaller, the sheer tonnage moved daily in a quarry or aggregate yard means constant, grinding wear on the bucket floor and wear straps. All three materials attack a bucket in the same three places: the cutting edge, the floor, and the side plates. That’s

Every operation is a little different, and the right bucket is the one sized and spec’d for what you’re actually doing
on the ground, not just the biggest number on the spec sheet. In my experience, you either pay for the bucket up front, or you pay for it down the line. If you choose the latter, it will likely cost you much more than if you had purchased the correct bucket to fit your application. If you have to fix a bucket, you will likely incur costs such as loss production, downtime, and heavy overtime to fix your bucket. Give Your Engine A New Start

Do you suffer from tired engine trouble? Are your points all dull and your sparks worn out and your battery needs charging? Well, we’ve got the thing for you. It’s an electronic ignition that will work on every kind of gaspowered engine — and it’s guaranteed for life.
No — this is no gismo, and it is not all that new either, but in the not-too-distant future you may well see it installed as a standard feature in that new automobile that you planned on buying. As we said, the basic concept of the ignition system has been around a good while. The first conventional type, known as Kettering, was introduced some six decades ago. Since then, a variety of new triggering devices have been developed and know by such strangely descriptive names as Breaker points, Magnetic, Hall Effect, Optical, Metal Detect I and Metal Detect II. If their names didn’t have much in common, their function certainly did — for they were all designed for one purpose — to hold in engine performance as engine wear
increases. In quite the same way as the fire which is ignited in a cigarette lighter, the spark in a cylinder is intended to start the fuel/air mixture burning, but if the flint in the cigarette lighter becomes worn you may have to flick several times to get the fire started. In an engine you don’t get so many chances because each misfire wastes fuel and causes power loss and then there is no start at all. Of the various systems now on the market — one now sold under the trade name of ‘Megaspark’ is exceptionally efficient. It belongs to the new optical type of electronic ignitions which consist of an infrared lightemitting diode which shines on a light-sensitive cell. A light beam interrupter, mounted on the cam turns
between the light beam interrupter and the photocell. Slits in the interrupter make and break the light beam allowing electronics to detect and trigger the system. The original rotor is used and every circuit is protected against failure by electronic safeguards. The infrared light is not affected by motor, oil, condensation, etc. and so it fires every time on every cylinder. For every motorist it means fewer tune-ups are required to maintain engine performance and for those who are not too regular in getting these important tune-ups — it means their engine will still fire with an electronic ignition system. For boat owners, this sure starting feature is even more important because of the problems on condensation which affect starting, usually when needed most which is right around the dock area. As a matter of face, the electronic ignition should really be a must have for boaters because you could even go to the extreme of dowsing an engine in water, press the starter and away you go. For racing drivers, it

Fecon Updates Blackhawk Mulching Head Fecon LLC, a leading manufacturer of professional mulching and forestry equipment, has announced a major update to the Blackhawk mulching head, their most field-serviceable head to date. Every Blackhawk ships standard with the X Lock tooling interface, a next-generation tool system that cuts torque requirements by 72% and eliminates the need for bushings entirely. The headline number says it all: tool changes that previously required 425 ft/lbs of torque now require only 120 ft/lbs. Mack Launches New Granite Cab Mack Trucks is highlighting the driver-centric cab and interior design of the all-new Mack Granite, the next-generation vocational truck engineered from the ground up around the people behind the wheel. Built around how vocational work is actually accomplished, the new Granite cab reflects years of customer input, driver clinics and engineering refinement. A Roomier, Driver-First Cab, Designed with Driver Input The all-new Granite’s interior was developed with input from more than 30 professional drivers through an unbiased clinic at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, where drivers without knowledge of the Mack brand rated prototypes and provided feedback on ergonomics, control placement and visibility. Several signature interior features came directly out of that clinic. A reinforced accessory rail runs across the top of the instrument panel, doing double duty as a sturdy mounting surface for ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices) and as a grab bar that helps drivers pull themselves up and out of the seat — a thoughtful detail for those who spend eight to 10 hours a day in the seat or contend with knee or hip issues. A metal ELD plate built into the dash provides additional reinforced mount-
ing for secondary screens or monitors.
Intuitive HMI and the Mack CoPilot Display From the instrument panel to the door panels, the Granite’s human-machine interface (HMI) switches were designed to optimize visibility and ergonomics, creating a driver-centric command position. A new 12-inch digital instrument cluster – the Mack CoPilot™ Display – is paired with an optional nineinch secondary infotainment display on the dash panel, combining the precision of digital displays with the intuitive, analog feel of traditional gauges and controls. A Mack-exclusive flatbottom steering wheel creates more knee room while keeping critical controls within easy reach. A standard driver-side airbag is integrated into the wheel, while smart steering wheel buttons provide access to infotainment, cruise control, CoPilot Display navigation, headlight and marker light interrupter switches and phone controls. These features provide a design that allows drivers to manage key truck functions without taking their hands off the wheel. Stalk-located Mack mDRIVE™ Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) controls allow smooth, intuitive gear changes while keeping the driver’s hands on the wheel. After 20 minutes, or so, they directed him into a triage room. The nurse said I could also go in, so we both took a seat. Clerk: “What is your name?” LaRon: “LaRon Johnson” C: “What is your address?” He provided his address. The clerk then asked and received other pertinent data. C: “Are you married?” L: “Yes’m” C: “What is your wife’s name?” Here, LaRon answered something neither the nurse, nor I, understood. It sounded like Yorfyundian. C: “How do you spell that?” LaRon reached up to scratch his forehead, but he would have scratched the bump, so he moved his hand enough to scratch the side of his head as he proclaimed, “I don’t know! I never did know how to spell her name!” The clerk was stunned and at a loss for words. She looked at me for guidance. Me: “Hell, don’t look at me.

quired. “Hold on a minute.” I heard Joe, in the background, asking the name of the establishment. He came back on the line and said, “I’m at ABC Supply.” “Okay. I meant, what town are you in Joe?” I asked. “Hold on a minute.” After asking what town he was in, he said, “I’m in Little Creek.” (This isn’t the real town’s name, but I had never heard of the name he gave me, either.) “Damn, Joe, I’ve never heard of that one.” Without giving it a thought, I asked him, “What state are you in, Joe?” “Hold on a minute.” Incredulously, I heard him ask what state he was in. I even felt sorry for him when I heard uproarious laughter in the background. I suppose ignorance truly is bliss, because Joe came back on the line, while not having a cluein-hell those folks were laughing at him, and replied, “I’m in New Jersey.” My last question was, “Joe, do you know where our terminal is located in Baltimore? WMTS had a trucking terminal about five miles from downtown Pittsburgh. The location was perfect, in that it was across the street from our largest flatbed shipper, and it wasn’t far from one of our largest van shippers. At that time, the terminal was within 30 miles of many of the largest steel shippers in the country. (Today, there are hardly any steel, or steel related, shippers left in the Steel City.) I received a call one afternoon from that shipper across the street, informing me that one of our drivers had been injured, and they requested my presence at its plant. I walked into the plant’s nurse’s office to find our driver, LaRon, sitting on an examination table. He had an enormous bump on his forehead, which was every bit the size of a small orange. It was a truly bizarre sight, because LaRon, at 5’2” and maybe 130 pounds, seemed miniscule in comparison to the “rising” on his forehead. (In many southern states, a “rising” refers to any bump, or welp, on a person.) Upon questioning, LaRon informed me that he had been chaining-down his load of steel bars, and that he was using a two-foot-long piece of steel pipe (binder pipe) to make sure his chain binders were tight. Just as one binder was closing-shut, the pipe slipped out of his hands. The binder flew open, and the pipe shot straight-up above him. Just as he looked up, the pipe came down and whacked
