DEVELON is taking job site productivity to the next level with the North American debut of the -9 Series heavy excavators.
The first four models — the DX230LC-9, DX260LC-9, DX360LC-9 and DX400LC-9 — address customer concerns about operator comfort, fuel costs and job site safety risks.
These next-generation crawler excavators provide smart technologies and performance and versatility features to help operators work smarter and more efficiently.
DEVELON will eventually expand its lineup of -9 Series excavators to replace the current -7 Series models offered in North America. The first four models previewed at CONEXPO-CON/AGG will be available at DEVELON dealerships in 2026.
“We’ve built on the success of our existing excavator platform with the new -9 Series machines, which are engineered with a fully electro-hydraulic control system, replacing traditional mechan-
ical pilot controls to deliver up to 8% greater fuel efficiency,” says Brian Kim, crawler excavator product manager at DEVELON. “A new smart around view monitor camera system, Advanced Lift Assist, remote smartphone starting, factory 2D grading system and real-time oil diagnostics help keep operators safer and more productive.”
With greater lifting power, the -9 Series boosts excavator operators’ productivity throughout the workday. Advanced Lift Assist, a new option in the -9 Series machines, displays the excavator’s current lifting capacity and alerts operators to potential tipping hazards. Advanced Lift Assist is an industry-first technology that uses a lifting force table to highlight risk zones during
maneuvers and on slopes or uneven ground.
“Our new Advanced Lift Assist uses a color-coded arrow system on the monitor to show operators how to safely work in various terrains,” says Kim. “This factors in the machine’s tilt to verify safety even when operators are working on slopes, allowing operators to work confidently without the risk of rollover.”
The excavator breaker assist feature prevents blank firing, protecting internal components from unnecessary wear while reducing the physical strain on the operator. With auto breaker, constant button pressing is eliminated for smoother operation in demolition applications.
The excavator’s new weighing system helps operators easily monitor production levels and manage volumes to make sure dump

trucks are loaded to the proper and safe capacities. Plus, the new stick steer feature lets operators steer the tracks using the joystick, which simplifies movement in tight spaces. The newly designed joystick gives operators the ability to personalize controls for maximum comfort and ease. It enhances movement with options like stick steer and thumbwheel steer, in addition to traditional levers and pedals. This flexibility ensures smoother, more precise operation that’s tailored to the operator’s preferred style, making every task easier to manage.
The new -9 Series excavators utilize the smart around view monitor camera system and human detection system: Six cameras, radar sensors and AI-powered human detection provide a 360-degree view around the machine.
Additional safety features include the following:
• Active E-Stop: If a person enters the danger zone (within 10 feet), the machine automatically brings all movement, including the swing and travel, to a complete stop.

• Virtual Walls: Operators can set digital boundaries to prevent the excavator boom or bucket from striking overhead power lines or underground obstacles.
Safety features inside the cab of a DEVELON -9 Series DX260LC-9 crawler excavator.
The DEVELON -9 Series excavators include several new smart solutions to give operators greater comfort and control.
• Larger touch screen: A
12-inch high-resolution monitor features an easyto-use, split-screen interface to access machine information and manage various functions. A dual monitor option is also available, which enables up to four screen splits to streamline workload and boost performance.
engine and adjust the air conditioning, offering machine control from any distance without a physical key.
Matt Quinnell, owner of Advanced Wall Structures in Minnesota, participated in an exclusive project with DEVELON that focused on gathering operator feedback for the new excavators. As an experienced equipment operator and long-time advocate for the brand, Quinnell has a deep understanding of DEVELON construction equipment.
• Smart Control 2D and Machine Guidance 2D: Operators can take the guesswork out of grading and digging with these standard machine features. The new excavators will be fully compatible with an optional 3D smart control and machine guidance system.
• Advanced Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) technology: The basic option continuously monitors critical components like hydraulic oil, engine oil and main pumps. This smart system predicts maintenance needs to help minimize downtime and lower service costs. The premium option includes the controller, pressure sensors, vibration sensors to provide diagnosis, and abnormality detection functions for the main pump, swing motor and swing reduction gear.
Available through the MY DEVELON fleet management app, a Bluetooth®enabled digital key lets operators unlock the cabin, start the
“Experiencing the prototype crawler excavators was an awesome experience,” says Quinnell, who traveled to South Korea from North America to participate in the project. “There’s a lot of technology in these machines, ranging from alerting operators of a person or different objects in the swing path of the machine to the standard 2D machine control. At the time, I had 13 engineers from DEVELON asking me questions about the machine. We’d test the function, and then I’d write notes and give them feedback.”
“We’ve built on the success of our existing excavator platform with the new -9 Series machines, which are engineered with a fully electro-hydraulic control system, replacing traditional mechanical pilot controls to deliver up to 8% greater fuel efficiency,” stated Brian Kim, Crawler Excavator Product Manager. “A new smart around view monitor camera system, Advanced Lift Assist, remote smartphone starting, factory 2D grading system and real-time oil diagnostics help keep operators safer and more productive.”

The new Cat 308 CR Fixed Boom mini excavator replaces the 307.5 Fixed Boom model with more power and increased hydraulic horsepower, increasing efficiency and performance when using hydromechanical work tools.

New to Caterpillar’s 8-tonne-class offering is this model’s compact radius design that reduces machine overhang by 67% compared to the previous model when equipped with the 250 kg (550 lb) counterweight package. Even when equipped with the optional 500 kg (1,100 lb) counterweight option, not available for the 307.5, the new 308 offers a 61% machine overhang reduction.
“We’ve continued the popular next generation design features of stick steer, cruise control, Ease of Use technology ready, and a comfortable pressurized and sealed cab in the new 308 CR Fixed Boom mini excavator,” says Greg Worley, market professional for mini excavators. “Plus, we’ve given this 8-tonne-class machine a compact radius design, a slightly larger undercarriage for stability and two counterweight options for even higher lift capacities than the 307.5. The new 308 delivers maximum power and performance in a mini size excavator to work in a wide range of applications.”
The new 308 CR is powered by the Cat C2.8 Turbo engine with 51.2 kW (69.0 hp) net power, meeting EU Stage V / U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards. Forty years ago, in a small garage in Finland, a young engineer, Reijo Karppinen, began manufacturing hydraulic generators.
His vision was to transform the machinery world in an unprecedented way, and he pursued this goal with ambition and determination. This marked the beginning of the story of DYNASET Oy.
Today, Dynaset is the world’s leading manufacturer of hydraulic generators, power washers, and compressors. Following the path laid out by Reijo, this familyowned Finnish company has designed and manufactured technological innovations to increase the productivity of its customers’ machinery for four decades.
Behind it are successful and hard-working years that have enabled Dynaset to grow into a global export company. It now employs a total of 130 people, not only at its factory in Finland but also in Canada, Germany, India, China, and Australia. Over the decades, the company’s offering has expanded to a range of over 40 products used worldwide across various industries, from construction to rescue services and process industry. A wide and professional partner network enables the global availability of its products.
Although the surrounding world has changed at an accelerating pace, Dynaset has managed to maintain its pioneering position in the industry over the years. How has this been achieved?
The most significant factors are its unique DYNASET
Technology and a customeroriented approach. Strong expertise in machinery, their users, and their daily work, combined with the ability to seamlessly integrate products with different machine brands, has made it possible to create unique solutions based on customer needs.
Quality and Finnish engineering expertise have also played a major role in the company’s success. Since its founding, the products have been designed and manufactured in Finland. Carefully selected subcontractors, components, and materials ensure high quality. Each product is also tested before being sent out for real-world use, guaranteeing reliable performance.
In addition to groundbreaking technology, customer focus, and quality, the courage to experiment and create new solutions has driven the company forward. Courage is one of Dynaset’s core values, with roots going back to its early years when Reijo began developing products boldly and without prejudice. A good example of such bold innovation is the company’s expansion into the electrifying machinery sector.
The year 2025 will remain in DYNASET Oy’s history as one of the most significant. Known until then for its slogan Powered by Hydraulics and having

manufactured hydraulic attachments for 39 years, the company took a major step in its product development by launching a new generation electric product family. Hydraulics were not abandoned. Instead, electric products were introduced alongside them to meet the needs of an evolving machinery world. At the same time, the new slogan Partner of Your Machine was adopted, which emphasizes partnership and customer focus as well as the reliability of products and services.
Dynaset’s future aims to be the best friend of machine manufacturers and contractors. The company closely monitors the evolving machinery industry and customer base to serve their needs in the best possible way. It responds to growing demand through further development of its current products and new innovations.
Naturally, production facilities must also meet demand. Dynaset’s factory has been located at the same address since 2001, although it has undergone several expansions and improvements over the years. Automation and robotics have already been introduced to enhance production processes, and they are recognized within the company as key enablers of future growth.
A few years ago, Reijo passed the torch forward, and his daughter Anni became CEO. His son Atte is also strongly involved, working as Dynaset’s After Sales Manager and participating in management and board activities. The company has remained familyowned, which is seen as a strength, and the intention

is to continue this as long as it serves the company and its employees.
“Of course, I hope that Dynaset will remain a family business for the next forty years and beyond,” reflected founder Reijo Karppinen. “However, it must be acknowledged that all such decisions must be made based on what is best for DYNASET Oy, considering both employ-

ees and customers. I strongly believe that family entrepreneurship is the best solution.”
Increasing brand awareness and providing a good workplace are also key future focuses.
“I hope that in the future we will be seen as the best partner for machine contractors, the first one to contact when they need more productivity from existing equip-
ment,” said After Sales Manager Atte Karppinen. “Our goal is also to be a stable and desirable employer that can grow its workforce and create new jobs.”
“We want to be a good partner to our customers, our other stakeholders, and our personnel,” concluded CEO Anni Karppinen. SP

DESIGNED TO HANDLE THE TOUGHEST ROCK EXCAVATIONS AND LARGE CONCRETE DEMOLITION PROJECTS. DUAL SPEED IMPACT FREQUENCY ALLOWS THE HAMMER SPEED TO BE ADJUSTED FOR MAXIMUM PRODUCTIVITY.

The applications of SENNEBOGEN telehandlers often require precise driving and maneuvering in confined spaces, while simultaneously demanding reliable directional stability when traveling over longer distances.
Since the steering system, as a central control element, has a decisive influence on productivity, safety, and ergonomics, SENNEBOGEN introduces a market innovation in the telehandler sector with its newly developed joystick steering. This system specifically addresses these seemingly conflicting requirements. To ensure optimal adaptation to individual operating profiles, the concept focuses on maximum freedom of choice and a functional symbiosis of control systems.
The vast majority of telehandlers currently on the market rely on the proven hydrostatic steering wheel system. This technology has established itself over decades as a robust standard and enjoys universal acceptance among
operators due to its intuitive operating logic. Steering input is provided directly via the steering wheel, while the selection of different steering modes—such as all-wheel steering, front-axle steering, or crab steering—is typically implemented via additional switches or levers in the cab.
Despite its reliability, significant ergonomic disadvantages become apparent during intensive work operations. Particularly during repetitive loading cycles and frequent maneuvering, numerous steering wheel rotations are required to position the machine precisely. These constant, large-scale movements place considerable strain on the operator’s shoulder and arm muscles during shift operation. While steering wheel control provides stability at higher speeds, it often becomes an efficiency
bottleneck and a source of operator fatigue during slow, work-focused operation.
To close this gap, an innovative steering concept was developed that transfers the advantages of joystick control, already familiar from SENNEBOGEN material handlers, to telehandlers. Technically, this system is implemented as an electronic steer-by-wire concept.
A key advantage of this digital architecture is the implementation of softwarebased steering curves. This allows the steering response to be dynamically adapted to the respective driving situation. At low speeds, the system enables extremely fine resolution, meaning minimal hand movements are sufficient for precise corrections. As speed

increases, a progressive limitation of the maximum steering angle ensures that the machine remains stable and safely on track even during faster travel.
To meet the highest safety standards, the entire system is designed with redundancy and features continuous plausibility checks of all input signals. The joystick acts as a highly sensitive input device that digitally captures the driver’s hand movements. These signals are processed in real time by a central control unit and transmitted to the steering hydraulics.
A key differentiating feature of SENNEBOGEN telehandlers is the possibility of customer-specific control selection. The system is available either as a pure joystick steering solution or in combination with a conventional steering wheel. This concept addresses the limitations of previous market solutions, where the complete elimination of the steering wheel often reduced flexibility during road travel and limited general user acceptance.
This approach gives operators full flexibility: for
longer transfer journeys or road transport, the traditional steering wheel is used, providing a familiar and stable driving experience. Once the machine enters working mode and precise maneuvering or loading operations are required, the joystick steering can be activated.
Switching between the systems occurs either via a dedicated control element or through intelligent logic that detects the active input. To prevent operating errors, the software ensures that only one input device has priority

Funding supports project that will reduce emissions, grow forestry, agriculture sectors.
A Kootenay-based project is receiving provincial funding to convert forestry waste into a soil supplement, benefiting agriculture and forestry sectors, while supporting training and good-paying jobs in the region.
“People in rural communities are finding innovative ways to create new opportunities for their families and neighbours while caring for the environment,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth. “By turning wood waste into valuable new products, this project is creating jobs, supporting local businesses and helping build a stronger future for the community. Through our Look West strategy, we are investing in the people, ideas and industries that keep rural
British Columbia thriving.”
Through the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP), the Province is providing approximately $182,000 to Wildsight to support its Fire for Healthy Soils project in Creston. The funding supports a pilot project to convert wood waste into biochar, which is a stable, carbon-rich form of charcoal produced by heating organic waste in a low-oxygen environment. It will connect rural forestry and agriculture while advancing sustainable economic growth in the Kootenays.
“We’re always looking at ways to embrace cutting-edge innovation and new technology and helping farmers adapt to a changing climate,” stated Lana Popham, Minis-
ter of Agriculture and Food. “This project will strengthen the resiliency of our food systems by boosting productivity on the ground and supporting long-term food security in B.C. communities.”
The provincial investment will support Wildsight, the Creston Community Forest and the Regional District of Central Kootenay to collaboratively pilot a biochar business project using low-cost kiln technology.
Instead of pile-burning waste wood, the project will transform hazardous wildfire fuels and wood waste into biochar. It is primarily used as a soil supplement to improve agricultural yield, enhance water retention, improve soil quality by storing carbon and other essential soil nutrients, and keep carbon out of the atmosphere. The material will be tested in forestry, agriculture, composting, gardening and landscaping applications.
“Since 1987, Wildsight has collaborated with partners like Creston Community Forest and the Regional District of Central Kootenay to pursue new ways for our communities to thrive in greater harmony with the natural world,” said Graeme Lee Rowlands, water and climate director, Wildsight. “This project overlaps community resilience, climate action, youth empowerment and economic innovation.”
While research shows strong interest in biochar, businesses need local proof before investing. The project will demonstrate its value in the Kootenays, building demand for biochar and kiln rentals, and supporting local businesses and jobs.

turning wood waste into biochar, the project will support other rural communities in B.C. in adopting similar approaches, enhancing forestry revenue, reducing emissions and strengthening food security.

over the steering axis at any given time. If an irregularity occurs during joystick operation, the system automatically reverts to conventional steering wheel control as part of its safety concept.
The benefits of this combined concept extend across several levels. From an ergonomic perspective, integrating the joystick into the armrest enables a permanently neutral seating position. Arm and shoulder movements are reduced to a minimum, significantly delaying operator fatigue. In addition, the optional elimination of constant steering wheel operation con-
siderably improves forward and downward visibility, as no obstructive steering movements occur within the operator’s direct field of view.
From an operational standpoint, the direct implementation of steering commands leads to faster work cycles. Direction changes can be carried out without repositioning the hands, increasing precision and reducing the risk of collisions in confined environments. Because the most suitable control concept is always available for the respective situation, the machine becomes more versatile overall and more attractive for different operator profiles.
The introduction of joystick steering for telehandlers
represents a logical advancement that places the focus on the individual needs of the operator. The decisive advantage for customers lies in the maximum flexibility when configuring the machine. Depending on the specific application profile and operator preference, users can freely choose whether the telehandler is equipped with the classic steering wheel system, a pure joystick steering solution, or the combined dual system.
“The Creston Community Forest has always focused on innovative projects that support sound environmental stewardship while providing employment opportunities in the Kootenays,” said Daniel Gratton, forest manager, Creston Community Forest. “Creston is well-positioned to explore new methods to support its agricultural and forest sectors.”
By demonstrating a practical, scalable model for
It will also provide training opportunities for local youth, build skills, support job creation and improve youth retention in the region through the Youth Climate Corps (YCC). The YCC program launched in the Kootenays in 2020 through Wildsight and has since grown into a provincewide initiative, Youth Climate Corps BC. Wildsight continues to run the East and West Kootenay YCC crews.

While conventional steering wheel control continues to impress with its intuitive operation and safe driving characteristics during transport operations, the pure joystick option provides maximum ergonomic relief and optimized visibility during intensive material handling tasks. The dual solution ultimately combines the safety of conventional steering with the precision of modern steerby-wire technology.
Through this freedom of choice, the system sets new standards for productive work under demanding conditions and demonstrates that technological progress is most effective when it gives customers the freedom to determine the operating concept that best suits their needs. SP

This configuration is designed for contractors focused on potholing, daylighting and excavation work where maximum vacuum power is the priority.
The VX75 with jetter adds an 18-gpm at 3,000-psi (68.1L/min at 206.8-bar) jetter system with 500 ft (152 m) of 0.5-in (1.3-cm) jetter hose, capable of cleaning pipes and culverts up to 12 in (30.5 cm) in diameter.
Because the jetter requires engine power, this configuration runs a 1,000-cfm (28.3m³/min) blower with a 4-in (10.2-cm) boom. It is suited for contractors who need pipe cleaning capabilities alongside vacuum excavation without hauling separate equipment.
The VX75 with air includes a 180-cfm (5.1-m³/ min), 110-psi (7.58 bar) air compressor for dry excavation and pneumatic tools. Like the jetter configuration, it uses a 1,000-cfm (28.3m³/min) blower with a 4-in (10.2-cm) boom.
This setup addresses applications where water cannot be used or where contractors need to power pneumatic tools on site without a separate compressor.
All VX75 models include a full-function remote control with start and stop capability, dual cyclone filtration with a two-micron poly filter, a cam-over hydraulic rear door that opens to 50 degrees and an in-tank cleanout system.

Practical design improvements address everyday operator needs and simplify maintenance in the field. The extended tongue adds 18 in (45.7 cm) to improve turning radius when towing with larger trucks like stake bodies or small dump trucks. Driverside fuel fill lets operators fuel both truck and trailer from the same side of the pump, and a lockable fuel door provides security when equipment is parked overnight or at remote locations.
The electric-over-hydraulic tongue jack includes
a manual override and is positioned on the driver’s side. Reverse pressure capability allows operators to offload material through the gate valve before opening the tank door, keeping the process cleaner and getting crews back to work faster.
For contractors working in colder regions, an optional 300,000-BTU hot box operates from its own fuel tank, extending the operating season without drawing from the trailer’s main fuel supply.
A 3-in (7.6-cm) crossover line between tanks fills faster when using hydrant connections. Improved

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has added a short-swing model to its latest generation of excavators with the launch of the new ECR255.
The Volvo ECR255 shortswing crawler excavator offers higher productivity and lower fuel consumption than the ECR235E it replaces. Its updated design prioritizes operator comfort and efficiency. The excavator is now available for order in North America, Europe, Oceania, Turkey, Japan and Korea.
The compact design, strong performance and operational efficiency of the ECR255 make it a smart choice for contractors working in confined spaces and demanding environments — from urban construction to utility and infrastructure projects.
The ECR255 replaces the previous generation’s ECR235E, providing a 7% increase in lifting capacity and a 10% reduction in fuel consumption. It joins the large ECR355, mid-size ECR145 and compact ECR90 excavator as short-swing models in Volvo CE’s latest excavator series.
“This launch means Volvo now offers a comprehensive range of short-swing models in our new generation of excavators, giving customers the flexibility to choose the right machine for their application without compromise,” said Jaesu Kim, Chief Project Manager, Volvo CE. “It’s designed to help customers do more in confined spaces thanks to its reduced tail swing, in-
creased lifting capability, lower fuel consumption and industry-leading operator environment.”
The new Volvo ECR255 excavator’s advanced electrohydraulic control system includes a smart cooling system and engine speed regulation for higher torque at a lower rpm. This means smoother, more responsive operation, less opportunity for the loss of energy, and up to 10% less fuel consumption compared to the ECR235E. Features like autoidling, automatic engine shutdown and customizable work modes also help keep operating costs in check without compromising performance.
The ECR255 excavator delivers a 7% increase in lifting capacity because of its redesigned structure and heavier counterweight, making it a more versatile machine choice for contractors. With Volvo Active Control, its boom and bucket movements can be automated for faster, more accurate digging and grading, helping operators complete tasks up to 45% faster and reducing fatigue. The floating dozer blade and the ability to set boundary limits and boom and swing priority functions make the ECR255 well-suited for complex work on confined jobsites.

With two new mines advancing toward construction after receiving federal approval, the uranium sector is growing, creating new jobs and economic opportunities for northern Saskatchewan.
In February, Denison Mines Corp. was approved to construct its Wheeler River Project by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
On March 5, 2026, NexGen Energy Ltd. received CNSC approval to build its Rook I Project. These are the first Canadian uranium mines to be approved for construction since 2004.
“The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to see Denison and NexGen reach this significant stage with their projects,” Energy and Resources Minister Chris Beaudry said. “At each step of the approval process, these companies have advanced their projects responsibly by building relationships with local communities and through their commitment to environmental stewardship. Wheeler River and Rook I
will provide generational economic opportunities for Saskatchewan people, particularly the Indigenous and Métis communities in the north, and strengthen our position in becoming the world leader in uranium production.”
“Well over a decade ago, we made a strategic decision to exit our international operations and to make significant long-term investments in the uranium mining sector in northern Saskatchewan,”
Denison President and CEO David Cates said. “Today, we have a diverse portfolio of projects including our flagship Wheeler River project –which consists of the Phoenix In-Situ Recovery (ISR) uranium mine, and a potential future underground mine at the nearby Gryphon deposit. Phoenix will be the first ISR uranium mine to be built in
Canada and reflects the best of Canadian mining ingenuity and determination.
“Further to this, I am pleased to announce that site preparation and initial construction activities have already commenced at Phoenix, and that we are preparing to transition into full-scale construction. The support and encouragement of the Saskatchewan government have meaningfully contributed to the successful advancement of the project – providing us with a rigorous and stable regulatory environment that results in the predictability and confidence needed for a large-scale investment like a new mine.”
“Our final approval of the Rook I Project on March 5, 2026, represents the beginning of construction of this generational project, which the NexGen team have been preparing for since the Arrow discovery 12 years ago,” NexGen Founder and CEO Leigh Curyer said. “As a world-class project in a leading mining jurisdiction, Rook I will create opportunities in employment, local procurement, and community infrastructure, while generating an

initial estimated $32.5 billion in total economic impact for Saskatchewan over its construction and initial operations phases. This will mean generational careers and investments available for infrastructure in the North and across the province.
In collaboration with our Indigenous Nation partners and with the support of Premier Scott Moe and the Government of Saskatchewan, together we are transitioning mining into a new era. Backed by our team’s proven capability and focus, NexGen is ready to successfully deliver this project for the benefit of all Saskatchewan residents. We thank Premier Moe and this
Saskatchewan Government for its steadfast support of the project and commend its vision for a strong, prosperous future for Saskatchewan.”
Both Wheeler River and Rook I are located in northern Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin, which holds the world’s largest high grade uranium reserves. Combined, the projects will create over 1,600 jobs during construction, employ over 700 people during operation, and represent a total estimated investment of $2.8 billion.
Demand for Saskatchewan’s responsibly produced uranium continues to increase as Canada and its allies around the world look for
stable and reliable sources of low-emissions energy. With a strong regulatory framework, the world’s richest uranium reserves, and strong exploration incentive programs, Saskatchewan can meet this demand now and into the future.
Saskatchewan’s existing uranium sector is responsible for over 3,300 jobs including direct employees and contractors. The uranium industry is a major employer of northern and Indigenous workers, with 43 per cent of mine site workers being residents of Saskatchewan’s north. SP

Terex Washing Systems presented the new AggreScrub P80 Logwasher with PreScreen at Hillhead 2026, where the new wet processing solution was shown publicly for the first time.

The AggreScrub P80 is a high-performance wet processing solution engineered for construction and demolition waste, excavation material and aggregate applications. Mounted on a single modular chassis, the plant combines pre-screening, logwasher scrubbing, post-screening, contaminant removal and slurry management within one integrated system, delivering efficient material separation while maximizing throughput and uptime.
Commenting on the launch, Paul Carolan, recently appointed Business Line Director for Terex Washing Systems, said, “Introducing the AggreScrub P80 at Hillhead reflects the increasing demand for compact, high-throughput wet processing solutions capable of handling heavily contaminated material. By combining pre-screening, intensive scrubbing and accurate post-scrub sizing on a single chassis, the P80 provides a practical way for operators to simplify plant layouts while achieving more consistent, higher quality end products.”
Designed to remove clays,
silts, organics and lightweight contaminants, the AggreScrub P80 enables operators to reduce operating costs, streamline plant design and improve final product quality. Its modular, compact layout also supports faster transport, installation and commissioning, making it well-suited as a core module within modern wet processing plants.
At the heart of the AggreScrub P80 is the PowerScrub twin-shaft logwasher, featuring spiral-arranged blades that deliver intensive stone-on-stone attrition and continuous material movement. An adjustable operating angle allows retention time to be optimized for varying feed conditions, while independent high-torque drives enable reliable start-up under load, helping to minimize blockages and downtime.
Following the scrubbing stage, material is processed by a 2.4 m x 1.2 m triple deck inclined aggregate screen, producing up to three clean, washed products. Integrated spray bars deliver an effective secondary rinse to remove residual contamination prior to final sizing. Lightweight con-

Finlay, a global manufacturer of mobile crushing, screening and conveying equipment, has expanded its horizontal impact crusher range with the launch of the I-130 and I-130RS.
Positioned between the I-120/I-120RS and the larger I-140/I-140RS, the new models address demand for a machine that delivers strong impact performance while being easier to transport and configure across a wide range of applications.
The I-130 models have been developed for quarrying, recycling, asphalt and demolition operations where efficient reduction, consistent product shaping and simplified material flow are required. At the core is a 1065mm x 1245mm (42” x 49”) four-bar rotor with twin hydraulic aprons, delivering aggressive reduction and consistent shaping across a broad range of materials. A direct-drive system with soft-start provides smooth engagement, fuel efficiency and reduced wear on drivetrain components.
Material is delivered to the chamber via a heavy-duty vibrating grizzly feeder, with the option of an independent pre-screen to remove fines ahead of the chamber, reducing wear and improving overall efficiency. Beneath the chamber, an optional under-pan feeder provides additional belt protection, managing rebar and directing material safely onto the main product conveyor when used in conjunction with the optional overband magnet.
Designed for operators who do not require onboard screening and recirculation, the I-130 offers straightforward operation, strong service access and durable components, making it a practical solution for high-output crushing across multiple applications. For operations requiring closed-loop crushing
and on-board screening, the Finlay I-130RS integrates a high-capacity two-deck afterscreen and recirculation system within the same midrange platform.
The large two-deck afterscreen is the biggest in its class, which provides high throughput, screening capacity and flexibility of configuration. Both decks can be recirculated for closed-loop applications, or operators can divert bottom-deck oversized material to produce a mid-grade product, increasing output flexibility without the need for a separate screener.
The 500mm (20”) recirculation conveyor slews up to 90 degrees, allowing material to be efficiently stockpiled when required. For recycling and C&D applications, an optional windsifter can be fitted to the

afterscreen to remove light contaminants such as wood, paper and plastic, improving final product quality.
A key feature of the I-130RS is its modular design. The entire RS section can be quickly detached to reduce transport weight when screening is not required. Alternatively, the RS conveyor can remain in place while only the afterscreen is removed, giving operators the flexibility to configure the machine to suit specific job requirements.

Both models offer easy access to service areas, with large platforms, clear walkways and straightforward maintenance points. Fully hinged crusher sections simplify blow bar changes and liner inspections, helping reduce downtime and improve safety.
“Building on the market success of the I-120 and I-120RS, the I-130 and I-130RS were developed to meet demand for a more transport-friendly impact crusher with increased con-
figuration flexibility,” said Matt
for
“The result is a machine that can be tailored to suit a range of recycling and quarrying applications, with options including use of a pre-screen, under-pan feeder, windsifter, and onboard recirculation, while remaining easy to operate and maintain for efficient, low-complexity production on site.” SP

Superior Industries is introducing expanded horsepower options across its Patriot Cone Crusher lineup, giving aggregate producers greater flexibility to optimize performance in demanding and unpredictable crushing applications.
According to the manufacturer, the move to more horsepower is less about tonnage increases and more about solving operational challenges producers face every day in the field. The updated options include increasing the Patriot P300 from 300- to 350-horsepower, the P400 from 400- to 450-horsepower, and the P500 from 500- to 600-horsepower.
“There’s a misconception that more horsepower equals more tonnage, and that’s not necessarily true,” says Supe-
AGGREGATE EQUIPMENT
rior’s crushing product manager, Jarrod Adcock. “What additional horsepower really does is expand the machine’s application flexibility.”
Adcock stresses that ideally, cone crushers should be choke-fed (operating with a full crushing chamber) for maximum crushing efficiency. But in real world operations, maintaining consistent choke feed conditions is not always possible, he notes.
Variations in upstream feed, surge fluctuations, screening limitations, segre-
Sandvik has launched the new Ranger DX1010i drill rig.
This new long-feed version enhances the capabilities of the Ranger DXi top hammer rig family in mining ap-

gation, portable plant constraints, haul cycle inconsistencies and changing material conditions can all prevent a cone crusher from operating with a consistently full chamber.
“When producers reach amp limits before fully optimizing the crushing chamber, additional horsepower can make a big difference,” says Adcock. “It creates more operating headroom, allowing producers to maintain crushing force and reduction performance in inconsistent or partially loaded feed conditions while sustaining throughput and hitting target gradations.”
For portable operations, Superior says expanded horsepower is a major advan-
plications, featuring up to 6.4 meters (21 ft) of single-pass drilling and a major boost in compressor output.
The Ranger DXi top hammer drill rigs by Sandvik have earned a strong reputation at hundreds of work sites around the globe. The rigs’ rotating superstructure excels

tage. Traditionally, moving into the 600-horsepower cone crusher class has required larger plants and oversize transport permitting, but the increased horsepower available on the P500 helps producers achieve that performance on a portable chassis.
“Having a 600-horsepower cone on a portable chassis is not typical because higher horsepower cones can create portability challenges,” says Adcock. “Adding more horsepower to our P500 portable cone gives producers access to expanded performance without sacrificing portability.”
Superior Industries notes that the additional horsepower is not intended to override the physical limita-
time and again, providing a superior reach and excellent single set-up productivity in a multitude of applications, ranging from mining to infrastructure.
Ranger DX1010i keeps the proven superior reach of the previous Ranger DXi family drill rigs to produce more holes with a single setup and combines it with a new long-feed system to enable 6.4-meters (21ft) of single-pass drilling. The large drilling coverage area, plus longer feed, enable more continuous drilling and drilled meters. The innovative long-piston RD930 rock drill and dedicated CT55/67 rock tools further boost performance by generating optimized shock waves to achieve higher penetration rates, longer tool life and lower fuel consumption.

tions of chamber design or liner geometry. Instead, the expanded horsepower configurations are designed to help producers operating in difficult or inconsistent applications where ideal feed conditions cannot always be maintained.
According to the manufacturer, the added horsepower provides more operating flexibility in situations
ing durability with Sandvikenabled intelligence. The rig includes a host of advanced solutions to make the operator’s life easier and their work more productive, including the safe and comfortable iCab cabin, advanced connectivity for Sandvik digital solutions, improved one hole automation with collaring automatics and the iClean drilling automation system. All these systems aim at the same goal: empowering operators to drill more, support easier machine servicing, and transfer production data smoothly to the office,
where crushers are not consistently choke-fed or where upstream conditions fluctuate throughout the day. The additional horsepower options are available on new Patriot cone crushers, while select existing units may also qualify for retrofit upgrades following an application review by Superior engineers. To support the capability for deeper holes, the auxiliary systems of the new Ranger DX1010i include extensive upgrades to deliver more power, more air and more water. The powerful compressor blows the deeper holes clean and clear with its 11 cubic meters per minute (389 cfm) of flushing capacity. Furthermore, the water system now includes an option for an extra tank, topping up the capacity to 500 liters to allow the rig to keep drilling for longer with water flushing.

Sewer systems work around the clock to serve communities. That means routine cleaning is a necessity. This addresses blockages and backups and also prevents them from worsening.
Combination sewer cleaners like the Vactor 2100i help simplify sewer cleaning by increasing efficiency with their larger overall capacity. As industry experts, the Vactor team shared seven ways to simplify the sewer cleaning process.
Ensure the pressure is right
Understand pipe size before water jetting to ensure the appropriate pressure is being used. Utilizing proper pressure improves cleaning speed and effectiveness while reducing damage risks. Be sure to also use the right pressure to prevent blown toilets and other damages.
Use a Vactor Jet Rodder pump
This single piston, double acting pump is simple and suitable for quick daily rou-
tine maintenance and operation. The Jet Rodder pump is also powerful, producing high pressure and high flow for greater efficiency. The pump’s jackhammer action at the nozzle pounds through line blockages and lifts the nozzle head up and over the blockage.
remove more debris with fewer trips. Selecting a water tank capacity that fits your operational needs provides a big advantage over basic jetters as it allows operators to both clean the line and remove blockages in the same pass. Proper water capacity must match to the chassis and overall truck configuration to maintain safe weight distribution and legal operation.
on preventative and regular maintenance
Implementing preventative and regular action simplifies sewer cleaning. Relying on reactive responses to backups means working in emergency mode, which is inefficient. Instead, plan for issues at hand to be more prepared. Regular line flushing and visual inspections extends the life of both infrastructure and equipment. As snow melts, trash, sand, leaves, and other debris resurface and make their way into the sewer system. Treat new blockages as soon as possible to prevent further issues and damages.

cleaner can break up blockages, clean pipe walls and flush debris to the vacuum hose more quickly and effectively. By doing this, it reduces the likelihood of leaving debris behind, thus decreasing the risk of future clogs. Higher pressure water also can return excess liquid to the sewer, helping maintain more productive operation.
Customize equipment for efficiency
Vactor Ramjet Truck features an array of customizations. The versatility enables the jetter to combat heavy debris and sludge in city mains and culverts while also navigating smaller lateral pipes with blockages too.
Know what lies beneath the surface
Increase tank capacity
A combination sewer cleaner can carry 5-15 cubic yards, allowing crews to
Apply high pressure for tough blockages
With high pressure, a Vactor combination sewer
The right customizations for the jobs your team commonly addresses helps simplify sewer cleaning. The
Prior to sewer cleaning, it is critical to know what exists underground. Tree and plant roots can make it a more difficult process. However, this can be simplified by using a H.A.L.O (Hands-free Accessory Light Option). It is a
safe, efficient way to see what is happening in sewers to help get to the “root” of the problem prior to entering.
Combination sewer cleaners and effective tools are not only more efficient but also provide more operator ease. The Vactor 2100i is designed for tough work conditions and provides reliability while also featuring many capabilities to help simplify the sewer cleaning process. The Alberta government is taking the next step toward developing a long-term provincial approach for accelerating management of oilsands mine water and fluid tailings.
To ensure Alberta manages these waters and volumes safely, transparently, and in a way that protects downstream ecosystems and communities, the province is launching a series of engagements throughout 2026 to implement the recommendations the Oil Sands Mine Water Steering Committee brought forward in 2025. The recommendations included reuse and disposal options, consistent measurement and treatment standards, strengthened monitoring and transparency and pathways for pit lake development.
The engagement process will include Indigenous communities and organizations in Alberta, industry operators, federal partners, technology providers, environmental non-profits and northern governments to create policies grounded in science, community input and practi-
cal implementation. Feedback gathered during the engagements will help shape provincial approaches for managing oilsands mine water and fluid tailings.
“Albertans are counting on us to manage oilsands mine water responsibly, transparently and based on the best available science,” said Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas. “Alberta’s government is committed to finding solutions that protect people and the environment while providing clarity for industry. This engagement process is critical to ensuring our policies reflect the full range of perspectives and expertise needed to get this right, now and for future generations.”
“Alberta’s government recognizes that meaningful partnership with Indigenous communities is essential to the responsible management

of natural resources,” stated Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Indigenous Relations. “As we advance long-term solutions for oilsands mine water and tailings management, we remain committed to collaboration founded on respect, transparency and shared stewardship for the benefit of future generations.”
Alberta’s oilsands are recognized globally for responsible production. Industry has drastically cut freshwater use and strengthened sciencedriven reclamation, but with billions of litres of mine water still held in tailings ponds, the province’s requirement for progressive reclamation at these mines, and some mines nearing the end of their operational life, current storage capacity is reaching its limit.
This work reflects Alber-
ta’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with Indigenous communities, industry and federal partners to build a long-term, science driven approach to mine water management and tailings pond reclamation.
The Oil Sands Mine Water Steering Committee, established in 2024, evaluated technical, environmental and regulatory options and delivered nine recommendations to accelerate mine water management and tailings pond reclamation. All mines produce tailings, which are a mix of water, sand, clay and residual bitumen created during oil extraction. SP

With the Vario Impact Sizer, Wirtgen offers a powerful system for material size management for the Surface Miner 220 SM(i) 3.8.

Compliance with the required material size is a decisive factor for ensuring efficient processes in opencast mining operations. With the Vario Impact Sizer (VIS), Wirtgen offers a system that scores top marks in terms of flexibility, precision, and adaptability. It enables machine operators to reliably control the maximum particle size and particle size distribution, even under constantly changing operating conditions. Extensive evaluation of the system in practice has confirmed its effectiveness, particularly in coal and bauxite mining operations.
The core of the VIS is a split baffle plate mounted directly on the cutting drum housing. This plate is equipped with two primary adjustment mechanisms that enable precise control of the material that passes through the system. The variable gap between the plate and the cutting drum is the first adjustment mechanism: this distance can be adjusted in five stages to control the amount of additional crushing and thus change the particle size. A smaller gap results in extra crushing and thus finer material, while a larger gap results in coarser material. The adjustment is made by simply enlarging or reducing the gap and securing the plate with pins, which takes around ten minutes. The second adjustment mechanism relates to the holes in the scraper. Depending on the specific requirements of the operation, they can be opened or closed in four different settings by means of covers. These two mechanisms complement the basic adjustment options of the Surface Miner like the
teraction of standard machine settings and the VIS settings. The standard machine settings include the machine’s advance speed from 0 to 84 m/min. The cutting drum speed is also adjustable with six standard settings on board. The cutting depth is adjustable from 0 to 350 mm. The settings of the VIS consist of the five baffle plate gap settings from 22 mm to fully open and the four cover plate opening settings, which can be adjusted from fully closed to fully open. This wide range of combinations offers almost unlimited possibilities for influencing the maximum particle size and the particle size distribution.
advance speed of the machine, the speed of the cutting drum, and the cutting depth.
In combination with the VIS, this results in an extremely high level of control over the maximum particle size. Machines in cut-toground or windrow applications often produce material that exceeds the required maximum particle size. This is where the VIS comes in –the system is designed to fulfill precisely this requirement by influencing and limiting the maximum particle size.
Finer material passes through the sizer and leaves the crushing process while coarser material is crushed until it can also pass the sizer. The VIS has proven itself in both coal and bauxite mining applications and effectively controls the size of the material produced to ensure that it meets the specified requirements. One of the advantages of the VIS is its seamless integration into the machine. The VIS is mounted directly on the cutting drum housing and integrates seamlessly into the material processing process. Furthermore, the system is highly adaptable. The variable settings enable reliable crushing of a wide range of rocks and minerals. The VIS is particularly suitable for brittle and porous rocks and minerals such as coal, bauxite, or chalk. The robust construction of the VIS ensures that it can withstand the harsh conditions in mining and meets all requirements for durability and stability, even at high throughput rates.
The VIS is available for the 220 SM(i) 3.8. Particle size control is achieved through the in-
In the meantime, the performance of the VIS has been evaluated in various mining regions. In coal mining in India, the system showed improvements in the control of coal particle size. Specific settings were used to achieve a target size of less than 100 mm. In bauxite mining, the VIS delivered impressive results in the Boffa and Boké regions of Guinea. During mining in Boffa, the sizer was opened fully to enable a cutting depth of 300 mm and a high advance speed, enabling maximum performance for the achievement of high productivity. In Boké, the settings were adjusted to a material size of less than 100 mm, demonstrating the system’s ability to adapt to different types of bauxite and different crushing behaviors. Clearly noticeable in practice: the settings have to be carefully adapted to the requirements since additional crushing reduces the throughput rate.
The VIS provides machine operators with a tool that gives them exceptionally precise control over the maximum particle size. The system settings have a direct impact on key performance parameters: particle size distribution, production output, fuel consumption, tool wear, and stress on parts and components. By specifically adjusting the configuration, the operator can always achieve an optimal balance between material requirements, process stability, and overall cost-efficiency. The VIS thus confirms its role as an effective tool for efficient material size control in contemporary opencast mining scenarios. SP

Available as desktop portal or mobile app, this connected digital ecosystem is designed for fleets, drivers, and International dealers. My International brings tools, insights, and processes together to make every interaction faster, clearer, and more connected. The result is a more transparent and proactive ownership journey that helps reduce downtime, enhance operations, streamline service, and strengthen collaboration with International.
“This is a simplified way of doing business with us,” said Fabio Souza, executive vice president, Service Solutions. “My International brings everything our customers rely on into one connected system, helping them prevent downtime instead of reacting to it.”
The introduction of My International marks a pivotal step in International’s commitment to deliver solutions that move customers forward. For too long, fleets have relied on a patchwork of portals, vendors, and emails to manage their fleet’s vehicles. My International continues to enhance fleet capabilities through factory-installed connectivity while presenting information in a streamlined flow.
My International is designed for seamless integration with leading telematics service providers. This interoperability allows customers to consolidate data from multiple sources into a single, unified platform, providing a comprehensive, real-time view of their entire fleet.
My International functions as a centralized command center that syncs real-time telematics data with dealer service systems. When a vehicle requires attention, the system alerts the fleet manager, identifies the nearest preferred dealer, and facilitates direct communication to schedule service. This transparent workflow ensures that warranty details, contract terms, and repair statuses are visible to all parties, eliminating the information silos that can cause extended downtime.
With the My International mobile app, customers can access vehicle insights, monitor service events, remotely optimize vehicle operations and more from their phone.

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) showcased its latest advancements in commercial vehicle technology at Truck World in Toronto earlier this year, with a lineup of Freightliner and Western Star trucks and Detroit powertrain technologies.
A key focus of DTNA’s presence at the show was the Detroit Gen 6 heavy-duty diesel engines, giving Canadian audiences their first in-person look at the next generation of powertrain technology up close.
Designed to deliver reliable performance across realworld Canadian operations - from efficient, long-haul runs on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) to durability in the Athabasca oil sands of northern Alberta and all provinces in between - Detroit’s Gen 6 engines build on more than two decades of a proven platform. Updates for the engine include an advanced combustion strategy, reduced parasitic power losses, and increased torque ratings to support downspeed performance for on-highway applications. A familiar aftertreatment system employs known and trusted technology designed to operate reliably in cold-weather environments, and for vocational customers, helps simplify integration with no impact on back-of-cab space.
“Truck World provides a valuable opportunity to connect directly with Canadian
customers, hear their feedback, and share the innovations shaping the future of both Daimler Truck North America and our industry,” said Greg Treinen, vice president on-highway market development, Daimler Truck North America. “Every truck,

engine, and solution we bring forward is guided by realworld customer needs, and we look forward to serving the Canadian market with proven platforms that deliver uptime and long-term value.”
At the booth, DTNA presented a range of vehicles and services designed for the unique and demanding environments in which Canadian fleets operate. For heavy-haul applications such as logging in British Columbia, a Western Star 49X Power Hood tractor was on display. For
urban construction applications, DTNA showcased a Freightliner 114SD Plus with a dump body. The all-new Fifth Generation Freightliner Cascadia was also be part of the display and supports both local pickup and delivery and cost-to-coast, over-the-road transportation.
As one of its newest offerings, DTNA highlighted the exterior camera system for the Western Star 49X and Freightliner 114SD, which gave attendees a closer look at how the system supports improved visibility at the job site, or on the way there. Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in a ride-anddrive experience featuring a natural gas-powered Fifth Generation Freightliner Cascadia equipped with the Cummins X15N engine. In addition, a Custom Hardware and Electronics Configurator (CHEC) demonstration on the Western Star 49X allowed attendees to experience DTNA’s advanced technology for tapping existing electrical architecture for the seamless and expedient upfitting of vocational trucks. Stellar Industries has recently introduced an updated design for its Large Off-the-Road (OTR) Tire Trucks.
Built to meet the evolving needs of tire service professionals across industries, the redesigned body incorporates several new features that enhance functionality and versatility.
Stellar Large Off-the-Road (OTR) Tire Service Trucks are engineered to handle the industry’s largest off-the-road tires in demanding environments. Designed and manufactured in the U.S., these heavy-duty trucks combine a high-capacity carrier, advanced tire manipulator and onboard air system into a single mobile tire service solution.
With carrier and tire manipulator capacities ranging from 4,600 to 16,500 lbs and steel body lengths from 15 to 20 feet, the trucks are built to efficiently manage large OTR tires while supporting a fully equipped tire service opera-
tion. An onboard air compressor, tire transport capability and ample tool storage allow a single technician to perform service directly at the jobsite, reducing response times and minimizing downtime.
Exclusive features on Stellar Large OTR Tire Trucks include a hexagonal boom design for increased strength and reduced flex, a worm gear-driven rotation system, radio remote and manual controls and a modified Aframe stabilizer system with out-and-down outriggers for enhanced stability across varying terrain on most models. A heavy-duty steel body with reinforced components and corrosion-resistant undercoating ensures long-term durability in tough operating conditions.
With new options and enhancements, the refreshed large OTR body can be con-
figured to meet the specific needs of the job at hand, all while withstanding demanding work environments and harsh weather conditions.
New features

OTR tire truck integrated mounting rails. Integrated Mounting Rails are welded on top of the vertical compartments to allow for work lights to be drilled directly into the rail, rather than into the compartment itself. By limiting drill holes in the compartment itself, the structure is better protected from weather. In addition to long-term durability, integrated rails give customers greater flexibility in lighting placement to better serve their needs.

Stoughton Trailers is setting a new benchmark for thermal efficiency, helping fleets maintain more stable temperatures while reducing energy demand and lowering total cost of ownership.
Stoughton Trailers commissioned Element Labs to conduct independent, thirdparty competitive testing to benchmark PureBlue against five leading refrigerated trailers. The results showed that PureBlue was, on average, 18.2% more thermally efficient than the competitive set, potentially reducing average annual fuel costs by up to $910. The design, 27.7% more airtight on average than competing units, minimizes temperature fluctuations and extends refrigeration system life. In addition, its lighter than four of the five competitor trailers tested and, when compared directly to the market-leading trailer, delivers both superior thermal efficiency and lighter overall weight.

partment latches. Stainless Steel Compartment Latches enhance both appearance and performance. These new latches provide a professional look and allow a larger clear opening for more accessory options. Stellar has also expanded the toolbox system offering for large OTR trucks, giving customers the option to choose between two or four 3-inch drawer sets to be installed in the compartment.
• Adjustable Compartment Configuration allows customers to choose shelving and layout options based on their needs. Shelving

In addition to its thermal efficiency and lightweight design, PureBlue refrigerated trailers are now available with factory-installed equipment that allows multiple temperature zones within the trailer, giving fleets greater flexibility when transporting mixed loads. The company recently completed a multi-temperature production build for a national retailer, demonstrating the growing demand for advanced cold-chain capabilities.
“The ability to produce multi-temp trailers allows Stoughton to better serve existing customers while opening new opportunities in food, pharmaceutical and other coldchain markets,”
“When fleets, owner-operators and leasing companies evaluate new reefer trailers, they focus on performance, reliability and total cost of ownership,” said Jack Hartnagel, Fleet Sales Director –Refrigeration.
To support the continued growth of its refrigerated trailer product line, Stoughton Trailers has completed a significant, multimillion-dollar investment to expand refrigerated trailer production capacity at its Evansville, Wisconsin manufacturing facility. The facility has been fully reconfigured to improve product flow, flexibility and workplace safety, while increasing floor space dedicated to refrigerated trailers by 87%.
The redesigned production line features multiple parallel paths that provide additional space for complex trailer configurations.
“The investments made in Evansville have dramatically increased our production capacity,” said Todd Eicher, Vice President of Refrigerated Products. “The investments in expanding our product offering, production capacity and third-party competitive testing shows our commitment to the refrigerated trailer line and our growth expectations.” SP

When I previously wrote about the difficulty of properly securing finished lumber, I mentioned that coiled wire rod was just as bad to keep from falling off a flatbed.
Well, here is the loadfrom-hell story of James, one of BM’s (Bad Mistake) drivers who had been with the company for several years. James was probably 50 years old. I never saw him in a foul mood, and his infectious grin caused everyone to smile when then spoke with him. He maintained his professional truck driver image as he always looked like he had just showered, shaved, and clean clothes.
BM’s flatbeds were equipped with only nylon straps for securement, since chains were not permitted to be used on the dedicated customer’s outbound products. James had delivered his load of sheetrock to Dallas. We dispatched him on a backhaul load from Houston to Louisiana, and I asked James if he would have a problem hauling coiled wire rod using only nylon straps. He replied that it shouldn’t be a problem, because the load only had 9 rolls of wire and the load did not need to be tarped.
Those drivers who have hauled coiled wire rod know how the damned rolls would lay-down sideways, and poor James learned that, unless you are experienced using nylon straps, they aren’t very effective when trying to secure this product. He had traveled less than 100 miles before several bundles had already fallen over. He eased into a truck stop, where he found a fellow trucker willing to help him. By using the other driver’s chains, they successfully straightened the fallen bundles. Over the next 24 hours, James was forced to stop, find other drivers with chains, and then repeat the same process two more times. Thanks to his determination, he safely delivered the load to New Orleans the next afternoon.
When James turned in his paperwork at our terminal the following morning, I added eight hours of hourly pay to his road pay before I sent it all
several inside tires, he walked out of his office and fired the driver on the spot. No second chance for this guy. Yep, crazy people do crazy things!
to the home office. This was the least I could do to thank him for a job well done, and because the time he spent dealing with the wire rod had caused him to lose the pay of hauling another load that week. I was sure this “Attaboy” was the right way for a terminal manager to take care of his driver.
The adages, “Doesn’t fall far from the tree,” or “No good deed goes unpunished,” became quite evident when one of the sons of BM’s owner called me the following week. He said he was looking at the “hours” I had added to James’ pay, and he asked if I had checked James’ logbook to make certain he was due the extra money. My reply was that I had not looked at his logbook, but the fact that James had done such an outstanding job of getting the load there at all, in addition to him not incurring any wrecker fees, I felt that he was due the extra money.
Thirty-five years later, I have a crystal-clear memory of the son’s reply, “Check his logs. If he didn’t include how he spent the extra time on the wire rod, or if he falsified his logs, then screw him, and do not pay him!”
Now, there were several reasons I made damned-sure James got paid for those eight hours. Most importantly, he had earned it. Secondly, and very important, was the fact that I thought that BM’s owner, and both of his sons, were completely out of their minds, and/or crazy as hell.
The old man’s office at corporate headquarters was located beside the fuel lanes, and he had installed a oneway glass, just like a police interrogation room. One afternoon he watched a driver pull into the fuel lane. The driver put both fuel hoses in his tanks, set them on automatic shut off, and then he went around his rig thumping the tires. When the old man saw the driver miss thumping
Early one morning, two weeks after I had paid James the extra eight hours, BM’s V.P. of operations walked unannounced into our office, along with my Mobile, Alabama-based division manager. While I was talking on a lengthy phone call, I observed the V.P. pacing back and forth as he chewed on his pipe. When I finished the call, he sat down opposite me and I said, “Damn, man. What in the world is wrong with you?”
He sighed, and then informed me that, “He had been sent down here to relieve me of duty.” Although I knew exactly why this was happening, I asked anyway. He said the reason for my firing was that I “did not get along well with the management team.
Having to agree with him, I responded, “Well, no shit! I really do not get along well with them.” Just then, the phone rang, so I instinctively reached to answer it. I stopped myself, looked at the V.P. and said, “You probably should answer it, since I don’t work here anymore.”
The V.P. had flown into Mobile and then had been driven 100 miles to our terminal by my division manager. The V.P. stayed at the office while the division manager drove me to my apartment, because BM wouldn’t let me

take their company car home with me. Imagine that? And to think that just two weeks prior, this same V.P. had suggested that I sell my personal car because I really did not need it since I had a very nice company car. I’m glad as hell I didn’t take his advice.
I had become very good friends with my division manager during my six months with BM, and during our short ride to my apartment, he told me that he had been ordered, three days prior, to travel to our terminal and to fire me himself. This upstanding fellow (in my eyes) told BM, “I did not hire him. He is moving all loads on time and his terminal’s empty miles are lower than any other terminal’s. I think he is doing an excellent job. I will not fire him.”
I am sure no one would be shocked to learn that BM’s management team was not overjoyed by his refusal to fol-
Engineered Transportation International, LLC, a leading manufacturer of tank trailers and transportation solutions, has announced the acquisition of B&R Repair, Inc.
This move marks the first step in EnTrans’ strategy to rebuild and expand its service center business across the United States and Canada.
As part of this transaction, EnTrans has taken full operational control of B&R’s three locations: Lemont, Illinois; Hammond, Indiana; and Wampum, Pennsylvania. This acquisition enhances EnTrans’ ability to provide high-quality aftermarket service and repair capabilities for its Heil Trailer, Polar Tank Trailer and LBT Tank customers.
Founded in 1987, B&R
Repair started as a fatherand-son operation serving the Chicagoland transportation market. The company has built a strong reputation for quality workmanship and customer commitment.
“This is an exciting milestone for EnTrans as we reestablish a dedicated service center platform,” said Charlie Gilson, Senior Vice President of Parts and Service at EnTrans. “B&R has a stellar reputation as a customer-focused operation with deep technical expertise. Their culture and commitment to quality align perfectly with EnTrans.”
low their order. The company even went as far as stripping him of his division managerial role, and they informed him that now was being demoted to the Mobile terminal manager. It is also not surprising that he quit working for BM a few months later. I’m glad he quit because we got to work together for several more years at another company.
Damn, another of life’s lessons: The grass is not always greener.
Thankfully, there was a happy ending to getting canned by Bad Mistake Trucking, because two days later, I interviewed with, and was offered a job, by a flatbed carrier. After leaving this carrier’s offices, I found a pay phone and called the president of WMTS to inform him that someone would be calling him for a reference. I jokingly requested him to, “Lie to
Randy May, Owner of B&R Repair, added, “Joining EnTrans is a fantastic opportunity for our team and our customers. We’ve spent decades building strong relationships and a reputation for dependable service. EnTrans brings the scale, resources and vision to the next level. I’m excited to continue leading the business and expanding our offerings while staying true to the values that got us here.”
EnTrans plans to steadily expand its tank service network, targeting the addition of new service center locations each year. This initiative responds to the growing demand for reliable maintenance, inspection and repair services among its large customer base.
The company emphasized that its service strategy is designed to complement its dealer network.
them and tell them something good!”
As luck would have it, he asked that I come to his office in Wilson, NC the next day to patch up differences with the fellow that had caused me to leave in the first place. To shorten this narrative, I went back to work for WMTS and got to move to a brand-new terminal outside of Pittsburgh, where I met, and married, my wife of 45 years. Yep, I was happy to correct a Bad Mistake! SP

“Our dealer partners are critical to our success, and that will not change,” said Jake Radish, President and COO of EnTrans. “We view the expansion of our service centers as complementary to both EnTrans and our dealers’ growth initiatives. These locations will focus solely on service and parts, not new trailer sales, helping to increase overall market capacity. We will continue to sell parts through our dealer network as we do today and remain committed to strengthening those partnerships as we grow.”
In conclusion, Radish added, “Our goal is simple: to build a stronger, more responsive service network that supports our customers while creating more opportunities across the entire EnTrans ecosystem.” SP
