ADOBE’s new 25-26 year is about to begin, and we are pleased to announce that our October 16, 2025, Community Meeting will open with a special presentation from the Superstition Fire & Medical District regarding their upcoming bond initiative. The meeting is being held at the Gold Canyon Best Western Hotel, with social time starting at 6 pm and the meeting at 7 pm. This important matter will be brought to a citizen vote in November 2025, and we believe it is essential to provide the District with an opportunity to present its case. This enables residents to evaluate all facets of the proposal before casting their vote. As noted in the June 2025 edition of Superstition Living, the ADOBE Board of Directors has formally endorsed a YES vote on the bond measure. While ADOBE remains apolitical, and how you vote is, as always, entirely your decision, we do maintain the right and responsibility to speak out on matters that directly affect the quality of life in Gold Canyon and the wellbeing of our environment.

The ADOBE Board strongly believes that the level of emergency services available to our community has a profound impact on our collective quality of life. For the District to continue providing optimal emergency response, it must be equipped with the necessary tools and resources.

That said, it is ultimately the citizens’ choice, as it should be in any democracy that values informed decision-making and civic participation. ADOBE continues its engagement with AZ DOT and Pinal County regarding transportation matters, particularly the proposed turn lanes at RT-60 and Superstition Mountain Drive

and Mountainbrook Drive. With the construction of the Maverik gas station nearing completion, we anticipate that transportation patterns at that location will soon stabilize, providing us with a clearer picture of long-term needs. For now, it’s a wait-and-see scenario, but rest assured, the die has been cast, and we remain vigilant.

As a related initiative, ADOBE has reached out on several occasions to Maverik, including contact with their operations manager, to discuss running electricity to the Gold Canyon monument to install lighting (with ADOBE assuming the monthly electricity cost via a special meter). We also hope to install three flagpoles to display the national, state, and Gold Canyon flags proudly. Despite our efforts, Maverik has not responded. This is disappointing, particularly given their public commitment to “building strong family communities”, a value that aligns perfectly with the spirit of this project. We remain hopeful they will have a change of heart, and we continue to advocate respectfully for their support.

is something for everyone to enjoy. In addition, we will feature a diverse selection of food vendors offering an array of culinary delights to satisfy any craving. To help you plan your visit, be sure to check out our detailed lineup and more at https://www.pinal. gov. Event is hosted at Multipurpose Field |174 W 1st St Florence, AZ 85132

The WaiTing Room

Coming through the door, you check in and find a seat, one where you can hopefully wait silently in retreat.

No one wants to be here in this purgatory room, waiting for answers that lie somewhere ‘tween grace and doom.

Too much time to wonder, so take time to study the faces of those other anxious guests in this worrisome of places.

Some are reading books, but most are on their phone, searching for diversions that are meant for them alone.

Eventually the door opens and the aide calls your name. I find it somewhat humorous and it always is the same.

They smilingly ask this question, “So how are you today?” Now Isn’t that why I came, to hear what the doctor will say?

SONORAN DESERT LANDSCAPES

SONG DOG [CANIS LANTRANS]

The Latin translation of the above is ‘Barking Dog, an apt description of a most clever canine, the coyote.

Found from Alaska to Costa Rica, the coyote is one of the most adaptive animal species in nature, learning to live and even thrive with mankind as a neighbor.

Built for speed, the coyote can run up to forty mph, a useful skill as his main food sources are rabbits and small rodents. There is not much that coyotes won’t eat, including prickly pear fruit to roadkill.

Coyotes mate for life, with the mated pair forming the alphas of the pack which consists of their own children and grandchildren. Pack members do not breed if the alphas of the pack are intact, a natural strategy that controls the coyote’s population. If something happens to one or both alphas, the pack may fracture, allowing the betas to start breeding and producing pups, another strategy to quickly increase the population.

Very territorial, the coyote uses its song to lay claim to its hunting range and warn off trespassers. In fact, research has indicated that the coyotes have at least 11 different vocalizations which, coupled with body language, setting, and personality, produce a very complicated language. Two coyotes can easily modulate their voices when singing in unison, using all 11 sounds to sound like a pack of eight.

They are cooperative hunters, known to chase game in relays, with participants alternating between the hunt and resting. Coyotes play an important role in balancing our desert

ecology by regulating the food web below and around them, making them a keystone species [one whose presence or absence has a significant effect on the surrounding biological community].

An icon of the American west, the coyote is revered by Native Americans as the ‘Trickster’: a magical being, part creator and part jokester. While very skillful in his own right, Coyote specializes in using the skills of others to accomplish his goals, often uniting others in cooperation to accomplish important tasks. In many tales, Coyote tends to obscure simple issues and devises complicated solutions to solve them. At all times Coyote is irreverent, fun loving and paradoxical.

Navajo sheep herders had a great respect for coyotes, calling them God’s dog. It was only after sheepherders began running large herds of unprotected sheep that coyotes became a ‘scourge’ to be eliminated. Some of our historical attempts at managing the coyote population backfired and increased coyote numbers by fragmenting established packs. Larger coyote populations led to less natural prey causing coyotes to prey upon man’s domestic animals.

Most wildlife managers would agree that when it comes to negative interactions between coyotes and humans, it is humans that need ‘managing’.

Has your doctor told you that it’s time to get your blood sugars under control? Hyperglycemia, or high blood sugars, can lead to a number of problems, including weight gain, insulin resistance, and eventually type 2 diabetes. Here are some active steps you can take to lower blood sugars naturally. (Even if you don’t currently have high blood sugars, these are a great way to prevent them in the future!)

1. Keep a food diary.

Keeping a food diary increases your awareness of the amount and types of foods you’re eating and helps you become accountable to yourself about making good choices.

• Record everything you eat each day.

• “Connect the dots” to discover what foods are spiking your

5 NATURAL HACKS TO LOWER BLOOD SUGARS

• Herbal teas can be relaxing and help decrease cravings and some can act as a mild detox.

• Use electrolyte water. I recommend LMNT electrolyte drink mix added to your water. I bring it with me when I travel because it’s so convenient to use!

4. Help stabilize blood sugars with liquid chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll from dark, leafy vegetables is great for you. If you’re not eating enough of those you can supplement your diet with liquid chlorophyll or get it in tablet form. Chlorophyll pulls toxins out of the cells and chelates toxins for excretion. It also assists the healing of our gut biome and kills non-beneficial bacteria. Apple cider vinegar is another good addition to help promote a healthy pH balance in the body and balance blood sugars.

• Prepare a drink with apple cider vinegar and liquid chlorophyll that you can sip throughout the day. I usually use a teaspoon of each to about 12 ounces of water; you can add a bit of stevia to sweeten the taste, if you like.

5. Reduce fasting blood sugars with an appropriately timed

Morning blood sugars can sometimes be high because when the body senses a drop in blood sugars from fasting during the night it releases glycogen from the liver that turns to glucose.

• If you have high fasting blood sugars, try eating a snack of a complex carbohydrate (high fiber) with a little protein an hour or

• Another tip: when you eat a fruit, try to eat a protein along with it. Fruits can be high in sugar and the protein can help prevent a blood sugar spike.

By taking these positive steps with food choices, you can prevent many of the potential health problems that can be associated with high blood sugars.

REAL ESTATE FOR YOU

ASSOCIATE BROKER LORI BLANK & ASSOCIATES, LLC

A Tactical Plan to Go From Renter to Owner in One Year

For many renters, the idea of homeownership feels just out of reach. Rising home prices, limited inventory, and financial uncertainty can make the process seem overwhelming. But with a clear plan, the right guidance, and a one-year commitment, you can move from renter to homeowner, and take control of your financial future.

Here is a practical, month-by-month roadmap to help make it happen.

Month 1: Assess Your Finances and Set a Goal

Start by reviewing your income, expenses, and debt. Use a simple budget worksheet to understand where your money is going. Pull your credit report from all three bureaus and check your score.

Set a realistic savings goal for your down payment and closing costs. While 20 percent is ideal, many loan programs allow for as little as 3 to 5 percent down.

Month 3: Build or Repair Your Credit

If your credit score needs improvement, now is the time to act. Pay bills on time, reduce credit card balances, and avoid taking on new debt. Dispute any errors on your credit report and work toward lowering your overall utilization rate.

Even small changes in your score can lead to better loan options.

Month

5: Start Saving Consistently

Open a dedicated savings account for your home purchase. Set up automatic transfers and treat your savings like a nonnegotiable bill. If possible, cut back on non-essential expenses, pick up side work, or redirect windfalls like tax refunds or bonuses toward your home fund.

This is also a good time to explore down payment assistance programs in your area.

Month 7: Meet with a Mortgage Professional

Now that your finances are on track, schedule a meeting with a trusted lender or mortgage broker. They will help you understand your loan options, walk you through the pre-approval process, and calculate how much home you can afford.

Getting pre-approved now gives you clarity, and shows sellers you are serious.

Month 9: Connect with a Real Estate Agent

It is time to start house hunting. Choose a real estate agent who understands your goals, communicates well, and knows your market. Your agent will help you focus on neighborhoods that fit your lifestyle and budget, and ensure you are seeing homes that meet your criteria.

Month 11: Make a Move

When you find the right home, your agent will guide you through making an offer, negotiating terms, and completing inspections. From contract to closing, the process can take 30 to 45 days.

Before you know it, you will be holding the keys to a home that is truly yours.

You Do Not Have to Do It Alone

Becoming a homeowner takes effort, but it is absolutely possible with a plan in place. As your real estate agent, I am here to walk with you through each step from your first question to your final closing signature.

Let us turn your “someday” into “this year.”

FINANCIAL FOCUS®

MATTRUPPERT

LIFE INSURANCE: PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS MOST

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month and the perfect time to consider whether you have adequate coverage to protect your loved ones. While no one likes to think about what would happen if they weren’t around, doing so is an act of love.

Life insurance is fundamentally about protecting your loved ones should something happen to you. If you pass away, your family will not only face the challenges of grief and loss but they could also find themselves financially strapped. Life insurance can help provide them with financial security in the event you no longer can.

Who needs life insurance: You’re a good candidate if you have a spouse or partner who depends on your income or if there are children or other loved ones whom you support. Insurance protection can also be a solution if you have outstanding debts like a mortgage, credit cards or a car loan, or if you simply don’t want to burden your loved ones with your final expenses.

Insurance through work: While many people have life insurance through their employers, this coverage may not be enough for you, depending on your situation. Among employers who offer group life insurance, only 2% offer more than two times the employee’s annual salary — essentially just two years of income — according to the Guardian’s 2023 Workplace Benefits Study. And remember that it’s only good as long as you’re employed there. With all this in mind, many people purchase individual insurance as a supplement to their workplace coverage.

How much: You might hear that you need life insurance equal to about seven to 10 times your pretax annual salary. That’s not a bad “ballpark” figure, but not everyone is playing in the same ballpark. To get a true sense of how much of a death benefit is right for you, use the “L-I-F-E” guide to calculate your needs:

Liabilities: Will your family need to pay off a mortgage, credit cards, car loan or other debt?

Income: Will your family need to replace your income for a period of years? Final expenses: Do you have the resources to cover funeral and burial expenses? Education needs: Do you need to put children through a private school or college?

Which type: You can choose between two basic types of life insurance: term and permanent. As its name suggests, term insurance is designed to provide coverage for a designated period, such as 10, 15 or 20 years. In general, term insurance is quite affordable for most people, especially when they buy policies as young adults. On the other hand, permanent insurance, such as whole life or universal life, is usually considerably more expensive because in addition to providing a death benefit, your premiums build cash value. In choosing between term and permanent insurance, you’ll want to evaluate several issues, such as how long you think you’ll need coverage and how much annual premium you can afford to pay.

Life insurance needs can change over time, so it’s important to review your coverage every three to five years or after major life events like marriage or birth of a child. Consider working with a financial advisor who can look at your complete financial situation and help you choose a policy that truly fits your family’s needs. Taking action sooner rather than later could be one of the most important gifts you give your loved ones.

AJ Mounted Rangers membership invitation

Following the summer season characterized by dry hot conditions, desert landscapes, and periods of monsoon rain, the AJ Mounted Rangers (AJMR) will reconvene for their upcoming season of community service activities. Our first meeting will be the first Friday, on September 5, at 7 PM at the MultiGenerational Center in Apache Junction at 1035 North Idaho Road, Apache Junction.

We are currently recruiting new Rangers for our season and welcome both residents and winter visitors. You don't need a horse to join, but if you have one, we would love to have you in our Mounted Unit. We are a peacekeeping group who provides security at events. The funds we raised are donated to the children of Apache Junction. We also welcome those with ATVs or quad vehicles, as well as foot soldiers. Everyone is welcome with open arms!

You must be at least 21 years old and pass a background check. Our minimum requirement for service is 10 hours a year, so if you have the time and want to be part of this Western lifestyle peacekeeping group, please consider joining our organization. We co-host the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo each year and expect our members to support us during this fun event at the rodeo grounds.

AJMR raises money at local public concerts and local community events. By joining, you can attend these events, get in early, and enjoy good parking—all for a worthy cause. Plus, it's a lot of fun!

Our members come from all levels of society. We value team players and positive attitudes. We have over 30 years of history and you can see the photos on our website. You will find more about us at our website @ajmountedrangers.org. We are on Facebook too. Contact information is available on the website.

Join us at our first Friday meeting this September at 7 PM at the MultiGenerational Center. Dues are $24 a year. We wear western uniforms to promote the Western lifestyle and values. So grab your cowboy hat and join us!

PROVIDE INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION TO OTHERS

Self-inspiration and motivation differ from the methods by which individuals encourage and motivate others. Self-inspiration and self-motivation are primarily personal, grounded in individual goals and internal rewards. In roles such as Fitness, Pilates, or Yoga instructor, inspiring and motivating others involves engaging in a specialized social process that includes empathy, clear communication, and consideration of everyone’s needs and abilities.

The responsibilities of these instructors encompass more than facilitating exercise sessions; they also play a pivotal role in promoting clients’ overall health and fostering personal development. Their responsibilities extend beyond the studio setting to include aspects such as supporting physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as supporting professional commitment over the course of their career.

An instructor’s philosophy focuses on empowering others through education. Rather than simply showing movements, the instructor prioritizes facilitating a deeper understanding among clients. By systematically teaching key principles of anatomy, physiology, and nutrition, instructors enable individuals to grasp the reasoning behind each exercise and lifestyle recommendation. This emphasis on knowledge supports the development of informed decision-making and encourages the formation of meaningful connections within the community.

Physical fitness is just one pillar of holistic health. A thoughtful instructor recognizes the symbiotic relationship between body, mind, and spirit. They encourage mindfulness, stress management, and emotional resilience, integrating practices such as meditation, breathwork, and positive self-talk. The aim is not just to sculpt bodies, but to nurture whole beings, fostering balance and harmony in all aspects of life.

Recognizing that everyone has unique physical attributes, a

fitness instructor’s approach should align with this principle. Training programs are tailored to individual competencies, needs, and goals, factoring in differences in age, skill, and experience. This individualization extends to creating a safe, welcoming environment where all clients feel valued and included, regardless of background. An instructor’s philosophy rejects uniform methods, instead recognizing and valuing the distinct path everyone undertakes.

In an environment focused on rapid change, our experienced instructors emphasize the importance of consistency and patience. Their approach is based on sustainable development, encouraging gradual improvements over time. Instructors are committed to cultivating discipline, acknowledging perseverance, and promoting a strategic long-term outlook.

Fitness flourishes in community. Instructors foster connection, camaraderie, and support, drawing together individuals who share common goals. The instructor’s philosophy recognizes that belonging can be as motivating as any workout, and that shared effort amplifies personal growth.

The most profound motivation for a fitness instructor is seeing the transformations when their clients move from self-doubt to self-confidence, from stagnation to vitality. These moments of breakthrough, whether physical or emotional, serve as powerful reminders of the impact an instructor can have. The joy of watching someone reclaim their health, overcome adversity, and discover their own strength is a wellspring of purpose.

The instructor’s long-term motivation lies in knowing that their guidance contributes to the broader tapestry of people’s lives, fostering resilience and hope that ripples outward in unexpected ways.

Many instructors draw motivation from their own stories of struggle and triumph. Whether overcoming injury, illness, or adversity, these experiences can enhance their empathy and commitment. Supporting others as they navigate comparable difficulties serves as both a constructive and empowering process. Their individual experiences align closely with their professional responsibilities, resulting in a sustained and genuine drive to fulfil their role effectively.

A fitness instructor’s philosophy and long-term motivation are rooted in a strong commitment to supporting the success and well-being of every individual. Their work is both art and science, blending education, empathy, and the ability to unlock potential in others. Sustained by a vision of lifelong impact, instructors approach each day with a spirit of curiosity, compassion, and purpose.

The right instructor can be a catalyst for change, an architect of habits, and a beacon of resilience. Their philosophy is expansive, embracing the unique stories and ambitions of every client. Their motivation runs deep, fueled by the transformations they see, the legacy they build, and the hope they inspire.

Fitness spans various dimensions including physical, financial, emotional, and psychological domains. Finding a supportive community and an effective instructor, who acts as both mentor and companion, can help individuals in exploring diverse pathways to well-being and achieving their Best Life.
