FINDING YOUR SUMMIT

Mark Pattison shares lessons from tough experiences

After years of hard work, countless lessons, and unforgettable experiences, mountaineer Mark Pattison shares his journey from being an NFL player to completing the Seven Summits, with resilience and faith helping him rise above life’s challenges.

“Extreme environments teach us about leadership, decisionmaking, resilience, and perseverance when life gets hard,” says Pattison. “I’ve always believed that the lessons from the toughest experiences can lead to the greatest reward.”

Through raw, unfiltered stories from Mount Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, and the challenges that came long before the mountains, Pattison shows how clarity, discipline, and endurance are built one deliberate step at a time. One that his book and podcast Finding Your Summit makes unmistakably clear is that the most demanding climbs are often the ones within us.

At the heart of Finding Your Summit is Pattison’s SUMMITS Model—a practical framework forged through years of adversity, high performance, and moments when quitting would have been justified. The model offers readers a repeatable way to navigate uncertainty, reset their identity, and lead with purpose under pressure.

Finding Your Summit is more than a story about mountains. It is a guide for leaders, athletes, entrepreneurs, and anyone in transition who is ready to rise above their circumstances, rebuild with intention, and climb toward a life that demands more—and rewards the effort it takes to earn it.

Pattison’s focus on building resilience is a lesson in how to handle the setbacks that inevitably come your way and turn them into fuel for growth. He offers guidance on mastering high-pressure

decision-making while staying calm, focused, and decisive, even when everything is on the line. Pattison also explains how to embrace change, pivot when life or business throws you a curveball, and make the most of new opportunities. He provides practical, actionable advice on leading with intention, becoming the leader you want to be, and creating meaningful impact along the way.

“Finding Your Summit is the culmination of everything I’ve learned on my journey from the NFL to the world’s highest peaks and into the boardroom,” says Pattison. “Each chapter reflects the grit, resilience, and high-performance mindset that have carried me through some of life’s toughest challenges.” He adds, “Whether you’re in business, in sports, or striving to become the best version of yourself, Finding Your Summit offers actionable insights for overcoming adversity, making bold decisions, and pushing beyond limits. It’s not just about surviving tough situations—it’s about thriving through them and coming out stronger.” 

Harry Griffith and Mel Jackson

CHANGING OF THE GUARD FOR SUN VALLEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Mel Jackson takes the reins

Mel Jackson, the new Executive Director of Sun Valley Economic Development (SVED), succeeds the organization’s founder, Harry Griffith, who has, since SVED’s founding in 2010, provided vital economic development leadership in Blaine County. Griffith leaves a lasting legacy of 15 years of community impact, supporting the business community through some of the Valley’s most unforeseen times, including the Great Recession, COVID, and the recent relocation cycle.

From the Limelight Ketchum Hotel’s Idaho tax incentive to the launch of the Sun Valley Culinary Institute and the return of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals, Griffith consistently provided leadership and countless contributions to the community throughout his many years of dedicated service.

Griffith is especially proud of envisioning unique and creative projects leveraging our community’s outdoor recreation focus. After securing certification of the area as a U.S. Nordic Olympic and Paralympic training site, he pushed for a kinesiology testing facility in partnership with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation and Boise State University, and with Woodward Performance Centers for a commercial ‘air/anti-gravity’ training facility. In addition to innovative projects, Griffith also focused on the numbers. Conducting more than 30 economic impact assessments over a period of ten years for local events and their contributions to a $30 million annual ‘event’ economy, he used this and numerous other studies to demonstrate how data and numbers reveal value and truth.

“Our communities are in a good place relative to our competitor set,” says Griffith. “There are longer-term issues that refuse to disappear, such as how we deal with the second or third homes that are $10

million and 4,000-plus square feet, where the kids don’t want them and they can’t afford them. That’s just one more addition to the perennial issue of housing.” He adds, “The challenge for Mel is to identify and think about the emerging trends that will have an amazing positive impact on our economy, and to consider how we, as an organization, can guide successful outcomes.”

After 11 years as a part-time resident, Mel Jackson was excited to become a full-time resident, serve the Sun Valley community on a deeper level, and become better acquainted with the business community and how he could work for everyone. Jackson’s wealth of professional experience and strong background in communication, stakeholder engagement, project management, and financial planning and analysis are well-suited for SVED.

Jackson is becoming familiar with the SVED projects and programs currently in place, ranging from educational events (like March’s community roundtable focused on cybersecurity) to vocational training programs, advocacy at the state, county, and municipality level, supporting other lead organizations in early childhood learning, workforce housing and sustainability, and a myriad of other initiatives. “Anything that aligns with our #1

strategic plan objective of helping Blaine County businesses thrive. No two days are ever the same,” he says.

In terms of new or expanded programs, Jackson says, “It all starts with asking questions and listening. SVED is well-positioned to be the connective tissue to put project teams together to solve community economic challenges.”

New projects he’s looking forward to jumping into include figuring out an incubator and mentorship facility for the Valley, getting an English as a Second Language (ESL) learning platform set up for central/South Valley, exploring pre-apprenticeship opportunities in diesel mechanics, and finding ways to engage local businesses with upcoming prestigious events, including the MT2030 Climate Summit (scheduled for October in Sun Valley) and the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals return in March 2027.

Jackson adds, “It’s an evolving list, but I am very excited to be working on such a wide-ranging set of initiatives, all in service to our region’s economic vitality.” 

QUIGLEY FARM

A place to call home

Finding a community and home that suit your needs and lifestyle isn’t something you do on impulse. It requires futureoriented planning, including assessing your children’s schools, choosing lifestyle options that support your vision of wellness and happiness, exploring shopping options and access to nature, and becoming part of a caring community that shares your values.

Photo shows construction of Phase II, October 2025

In a time when quick decisions and rapid technological advances shape our daily lives, how can we maintain a sustainable lifestyle while remaining grounded and connected? Quigley Farm was established to help people live their best lives in the Wood River Valley, preserving a home and a high quality of life in a beautiful setting, enjoying Idaho’s finest, and settling down. It also provides space for people to enjoy living in a community with opportunities to create experiences that bring multiple generations together.

Located in Quigley Canyon, just east of Hailey, Quigley Farm was planned by developer and builder Dave Hennessy to feature diverse housing, trail access, community gardening, and worldclass recreation, including over 20 km of Nordic skiing trails in winter and a summer pump track, flow trails, and a skills area for mountain biking. Providing parking and easy access to trails, this area of Quigley Farm is especially desirable to the community, where children and adults often enjoy recreation at all levels—it’s not just alluring, it’s inspiring!

“The driver has always been to create a full community for all generations,” says Dave Hennessy of Hennessy Company. “The ultimate goal is to serve everybody. We hope to expand the neighborhood business area to continue the community’s vision, where people can recreate, learn, eat, socialize, and work right in their neighborhood. There’s a great deal of opportunity.”

In partnership with the Wood River Land Trust, Hennessy placed 1,278 acres in a conservation easement to protect the canyon’s look, feel, and big-game winter range. This significant portion of land has been preserved for public use and wildlife habitat. The Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD) manages the trails, along with 110 acres that were donated to the BCRD, which built a flow trail and a pump track for mountain biking. In addition, access to BLM trails includes the Golden Hour trail, a 4.4-mile extension of the 3.5-mile Silver Lining trail, and the Quigley Loop trail, which leads to Quigley Pond. Plans include completing about 45 miles of trails around Quigley.

“The trail systems with the BCRD and the BLM are an example of how we all worked together as nonprofit, governmental, and for-profit entities,” says Hennessy. “By creating access points and providing recreation, we were able to enhance their systems, so it’s a nice amenity for Quigley Farm real estate and also helps the community at large by providing more recreation opportunities.”

“The ultimate goal is to serve everybody. We hope to expand the neighborhood business area to continue the community’s vision, where people can recreate, learn, eat, socialize, and work right in their neighborhood. There’s a great deal of opportunity.”

Following the sell-out of the first phase of Quigley Farm lots, near The Sage School’s newly built campus, Quigley Farm Phase II offers diverse housing types, including single-family, duplex, and cottage lots ranging from 4,429 to 17,989 square feet, with the potential for more than 40 residences.

“Providing a variety of homes and lot sizes to create a diversity of products was intended to attract a diversity of owners,” says Hennessy. “It was important to do this to build a successful and vibrant community. Having multiple generations and a good cross-section of economic levels was key. We also wanted to involve those who would help us by providing input on how to plan the community.”

Harry Weekes, Head and Co-founder of The Sage School, explains, “The Sage School has three central pillars that guide our work with students: developing self-awareness, community responsibility, and a sense of place. Quigley Canyon, as a place, is extraordinary— physically, in its connection to Hailey, as a growing neighborhood, and in its connection to the natural world and the community of the Wood River Valley.” He adds, “Locating here enables Sage to connect to each of these assets and to be a central part of all of them. Our campus and Quigley Canyon continue to serve as a gateway to all that we love about this area and as an invitation to come out and explore. Our students get to develop a sense of who they are in a beautiful location connected to a wonderful community, and that is powerful and magical.”

From geological time to the present day, Hennessy learned about the history of Quigley Canyon through a historical evaluation by a group that uncovers the “story of place.” They identified four areas where indigenous people, the Sheep Eaters, were the last tribe not to adopt the horse; instead, they created snowshoes, bows, and arrows from animal antlers to hunt elk and deer in the winter. This was followed by the mining era, sheep herding, and, lastly, recreation and tourism.

“It was interesting to learn about the Valley’s reinvention and the themes behind it, as we are looking at this community as a reinvention of new ways to build,” says Hennessy.

Quigley Farm has up to 200 acres dedicated to agricultural production, including alfalfa and grain fields, community gardens, orchards, and berry patches, all thoughtfully integrated into community planning. In addition, Quigley Farm is adjacent to Wood River High School, for which they dedicated over 11 acres to the BCSD to build a sports field on the west side of the development.

“The next big phase is the regenerative agricultural side of the development,” says Hennessy. “Creating a better water management system is in the planning stages for fall 2027.”

Food was central to the development of Quigley Farm, with two orchards and one garden, so homeowners could pick fresh fruit. In addition, providing space for a community garden was intended to allow homeowners to claim a garden bed to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Other ideas under consideration include a commercial kitchen and food prep at The Sage School, greenhouses, and the larger agricultural fields, with potential for pilot-farmer plots.

Hennessy explains that the goal is to move from a small community garden to large-scale regenerative agriculture that encompasses all the food components across those areas.

“From the conception of the development, the big picture has always included three components: education, agriculture, and wellness,” he says. “I really wanted to create a community I would want to live in.” 

“Quigley Canyon, as a place, is extraordinary—physically, in its connection to Hailey, as a growing neighborhood, and in its connection to the natural world and the community of the Wood River Valley.”

DARK TO LIGHT

The story behind the storytellers

This story belongs to the creative independents bent on collaborating, innovating, and fueling their passion to produce striking visual narratives and authentic essays that capture the heartbeat of our community and beyond. It belongs to a homegrown kid with a hard-earned work ethic and the instinct and fervor to run through open doors and lead. It’s the Dark to Light story.

At 18, Tyler Hendricks, who was running the video display system for his dad’s church in Hailey and planning a career in engineering, was offered an internship at Plum TV Sun Valley. Only mildly interested, he applied and got it. He was given free rein to learn on the fly, make mistakes, and explore everything about cameras and editing, having never operated either. Says Hendricks, “They threw me right into the fire, sending me out to shoot and conduct interviews. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I loved every second of it. They gave me the freedom to figure out what my creative skill set was. That was really the beginning of finding my passion in video production.”

Hendricks worked his way up to being a producer, then found himself holding his

own camera and computer as the company abruptly shut down. Fortuitously, that same day, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation called, inquiring about the status of their marketing video. The former Sun Valley Center of the Arts called soon after, and Hendricks was in business for himself. As his schedule filled up, he added someone to help on a contract basis.

The initial strategy was to reach out to local nonprofits and general businesses he was interested in working with, show up for the organization’s next activity or meeting, and capture content for free. Hendricks and his team produced a finished piece with a prompt turnaround and then handed it back for a critique. “We were at the sweet spot of technology where you could create a video in days, instead of the weeks it previously took,” he says. “We began to gain more clients.” Dark to Light Productions emerged on January 1, 2012, with a name that reflected the idea that nonprofit stories are hidden in the dark and in need of illumination for their important work.

“Eventually, it made sense that we needed to start hiring,” Hendricks recalls. “I realized the trick to making better material was bringing in more creatives. In the same way I learned on the job, I’ve wanted to give new hires the time and grace extended to me, while also throwing them into the fire a little.” He adds, “That’s what I envisioned for this company—creatives working hard on client projects while challenging themselves to level up and develop their skill sets.” It’s no surprise he has a waitlist of people clamoring to work for him.

The second video they made for The Hunger Coalition propelled them into distinction by shifting their filming style from the direct emotion of ‘talking heads’ interviews to their signature messaging. “I watched the video at that event, and people were completely overwhelmed with emotion,” says Hendricks. After that, a Dark to Light video piece was readily recognized for its cinematic feel and evocative dramatic impact.

While Dark to Light offers website development, marketing content creation, and, more recently, livestreaming for events, three-quarters of their video production is for nonprofit fundraising events, much of it long-form pieces designed to give viewers and donors an emotional experience that helps them grasp the life-changing impact of their contributions. “That is at our core, to go deep into the storytelling and show donors what their support makes possible in our communities,” says Hendricks.

Hendricks recently launched Dark to Light in Bozeman, Montana, in partnership with an employee who moved there, and business has exploded in the last three months.

“When I was 18, I never had a vision to be an entrepreneur, to start at ground zero, but I knew I wanted to create things for people and get that interaction of critique and feedback,” says Hendricks. “I’ve learned a lot of lessons growing this business. RESILIENCE IS THE ULTIMATE LUXURY

In a world shaped by economic uncertainty and geopolitical change, true luxury is defined by endurance. Global real estate continues to prove its strength, with investment rising nearly 30% since 2020, reaffirming property’s role as a cornerstone of long-term wealth, identity, and legacy.

The U.S. luxury housing market led this momentum in 2025, delivering sales growth nearly twice that of the traditional market while maintaining stable price appreciation. As historic generational wealth transfers accelerate totaling more than $38 trillion globally over the next decade real estate remains deeply embedded in how wealth is preserved, grown, and passed forward.

A new map of luxury resilience is also emerging. Alongside established global icons, markets such as Atlanta, Austin, Nashville, San Diego, Dubai, and Lisbon are demonstrating the same enduring fundamentals once exclusive to New York and London. These destinations reflect evolving priorities among high-net-worth buyers, premium locations, turnkey living, expansive residences, privacy, wellness-forward design, and multigenerational flexibility.

Luxury today is no longer defined by excess alone. It is defined by stability, intention, and long-term value. And real estate remains at the center of it all.

The Wood River Valley is more than a market — it’s a community built on generosity, resilience, and neighbors showing up for one another.

Closing out the year with the highest sales volume in the brokerage, Corey Graham demonstrated what happens when extensive market knowledge, unwavering commitment, and trusted relationships converge. As a 2026 Director of the Sun Valley Board of Realtors, she approaches her work with a long-term perspective rooted in stewardship of the Valley she proudly serves.

That commitment is reflected in her longstanding involvement with the Wood River Women’s Foundation, where she serves on the Grants Committee. In 2025 alone, the Foundation awarded $375,400 to 25 local nonprofits. Since 2005, nearly $5 million has been granted through 294 nonprofit awards, strengthening organizations that support children, protect the environment, and care for neighbors in need. Grant giving season is now underway and stands as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when this valley comes together with purpose.

Strong communities are built with intention. If you’re considering your next move in the Wood River Valley, or looking to invest in its future, Corey is ready to put her relationships and experience to work for you.

MILES OF MEMORIES

Redfish Lake Lodge Memorial Weekend Race

If it’s May in the Sawtooths, it’s time for the opening of Redfish Lake Lodge and the Memorial Weekend Race, Idaho’s most scenic race, now 15 years strong and more popular than ever as an annual welcome mat to the summer season in the Sawtooths. Opening day for Redfish is May 19, with the Memorial Weekend Race slated for Saturday, May 23, during Memorial Day Weekend. The event celebrates not only physical fitness, family recreation, and personal fulfillment but also a memorial tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

“The race is a great way for us to kick off the season,” says Austin Clegg, grandson of the resort’s owners, Arlen and Derrel Crouch, and Marketing Coordinator and Director of Employee & Guest Relations. “It is full of tradition and meaning, and it is a time to remember those who have served our country and loved ones who have finished their earthly race.”

What began in 2009 as a triathlon became the 5k, 10k, and halfmarathons in 2010 due to May’s frigid lake temperatures. Runners of all levels compete in the community-based, scenic races. The resort is permitted to host 500 participants under its U.S. Forest Service Permit, and the event has sold out for the last two years, with the same expectation for 2026.

All of the races begin and end at the Lodge and run through a mix of sand, gravel, paved, and dirt trails. The 5k race is relatively flat, begins at 11am, and wraps around the north shore of the lake and the Point Campground. The 10k race begins at 10:30am and includes challenging paved hills on the back half of the course, with stunning views.

“It is full of tradition and meaning, and it is a time to remember those who have served our country and loved ones who have finished their earthly race.”
—Austin Clegg

The half-marathon begins at 10am and is challenging yet extremely rewarding. The free kids’ race is a one-mile loop out and around the Point Campground from the Lodge. It begins at 9:30am and is for ages 3-10. Online registration closes at 10pm on Friday, May 22. At high noon, after the races, all participants are encouraged to gather on the docks for the Bluefish Event, a quick and refreshing cold plunge off the docks—the best way to recover and perhaps the most memorable part of the day.

Packet pickup will be on Friday, May 22, from 4-8pm, and on Saturday, May 23, from 8-9:30am, in front of the lodge. (Friday

pickup is highly encouraged.) Also on Friday, a delicious pre-race meal will be available in the event area from 6-8pm. (Adults: $18; kids 12-6: $10; under 5: free.) Race participants will receive a delicious lunch on Saturday with their registration. Meals can also be purchased at the event tent and at the Lakeside Grill and Limbert’s for non-participants.

Check online for lodging reservations in Stanley, or at Redfish Lake Lodge and any of their Stanley Town Properties. Campsite reservations can be made with the U.S. Forest Service. If traveling to the race on the day of, please plan to allow time for parking. 

ST. LUKE’S EXPANDS PRIMARY CARE TEAM

Strengthening access to care across the Valley

Here in the Wood River Valley, access to high‑quality, relationship‑centered primary care plays an important role in keeping the community healthy and supported. St. Luke’s Wood River is reinforcing that commitment by welcoming three new primary care providers—Abigail Allman, M.D., Erin Hess, PA‑C, and Alisa Barnes, PA‑C— broadening capacity and strengthening the health care network that thousands of people locally and beyond trust.

Together, the new providers bring a range of clinical expertise. Their arrival expands access to appointments and reinforces St. Luke’s mission to deliver compassionate, patient‑centered care rooted in long‑term relationships.

COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY MEDICINE CARE

Dr. Allman is a full‑spectrum family medicine physician with advanced training in obstetrics. She brings a warm, relationship centered approach to primary care—one that emphasizes listening deeply, honoring each patient’s story, and supporting health at every stage of life.

Inspired early on by her mother’s example as an optometrist, Allman saw first hand the power of long term relationships in medicine. She carries that lesson into her practice today. “I view each patient physician relationship as sacred and approach the space with vulnerability,” she shares. “My job is not to impress people with my knowledge but to distill complex medical information so I can help them make decisions about their health and well being, individually and as a family.”

Allman attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at Full Circle Health in Boise, where she served as Chief Resident. She later pursued an Advanced Obstetrics Fellowship at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, gaining extensive experience in high‑risk pregnancies, advanced reproductive care, and cesarean sections. Her clinical interests include breastfeeding and lactation medicine—where she is pursuing additional board certification—and lifestyle medicine.

Drawn to the Wood River Valley’s welcoming spirit and strong culture of patient centered care, Allman is excited to return to Idaho. “I love being able to practice full spectrum family medicine within a system that values my role as a rural primary care physician,” she says. “I am so happy to have joined St. Luke’s as a new member of the team caring for this community.”

Dr. Allman, her husband, and their new baby daughter—born right here at St. Luke’s Wood River in September—are thrilled to make this valley their home. Outside of medicine, Allman enjoys hiking, mountain biking, alpine skiing, and baking intricate desserts, along with a voracious love of reading.

“I

view each patientphysician relationship as sacred and approach the space with vulnerability.”

FAMILY MEDICINE WITH RURAL INSIGHT AND COMMUNITY FOCUS

Erin joins St. Luke’s Family Medicine Clinic with broad clinical experience in community health, hospital medicine, primary care, behavioral health, addiction medicine, pediatrics, and rural health. She primarily supports Drs. Hatzenbuehler and Greenberg, providing valuable continuity and expanded access to care for patients across the Wood River Valley.

Hess’s roots give her a steady, adaptable style, and her proficiency in Spanish helps her build strong relationships with our Spanish speaking community. “I grew up in Montana and Alaska and went to graduate school in Utah, so the Mountain West is very much home,” she shares.

With more than three years of hands‑on experience prior to PA school, Hess developed a deep appreciation for how meaningful patient relationships can shape outcomes. “I love family medicine because you can build relationships with patients over time,” she says. Her graduate clinical rotations—ranging from primary care, psychiatry, pediatrics, general surgery, and international work in Guatemala—further strengthened her ability to care for individuals and families with diverse needs.

Hess describes her approach as empowering, collaborative, and whole‑person focused. “I really enjoy empowering patients to build their health care and lifestyle goals,” she explains. “I am here to provide evidence‑based information and help patients navigate decision‑making with the right information.” She adds, “Above all, I want to build trust and provide a safe space for patients to talk about what might be holding them back from being their healthiest, happiest selves.”

“I love family medicine because you can build relationships with patients over time.”

Hess, PA‑C

Hess is thrilled to join the St. Luke’s Wood River team. “There is strong support within and across specialties at St. Luke’s, and we have a great team here in the Wood River Valley,” she notes. Although Hess moved to the valley recently, she has visited for many years and has long been drawn to its small‑town warmth and exceptional access to the outdoors.

Outside the clinic, Hess enjoys skiing, biking, and reading. She also has a strong history of community involvement, including serving as a youth mountain bike coach and volunteering in adaptive sports programs. She looks forward to building lasting relationships with patients and becoming an active part of the community.

BRINGING BROAD FAMILY MEDICINE EXPERIENCE TO HAILEY

Alisa Barnes joins St. Luke’s Wood River’s Family Medicine Clinic in Hailey, bringing extensive experience in family practice, pediatrics, urgent care, and academic precepting. She primarily supports Drs. Drumm, Prouty, and Vandenburgh, adding depth and versatility to the clinic’s provider team. With clinical experience in Idaho, Utah, and California, Barnes brings a well‑rounded perspective and a passion for supporting healthy families in the communities she serves.

“Adding these three exceptional providers enhances access to high-quality family medicine for our patients.”

A MEANINGFUL INVESTMENT IN COMMUNITY WELLNESS

The expansion will help ensure long‑term access to high quality care as the valley continues to grow. “Adding these three exceptional providers enhances access to high quality family medicine for our patients,” says Karen Hawkes, practice director for St. Luke’s Wood River. “Their skill, compassion, and dedication to forming meaningful connections will support the long‑term relationships that are so important to wellness in our community.”

With the addition of Allman, Hess, and Barnes, St. Luke’s Wood River continues to strengthen its role as a trusted partner in health, one dedicated to supporting the well being of all who call the valley home. 

SHIFTING INTO SPRING

A season for natural growth

Spring is my favorite season, filled with warmth, new life, movement, and renewed energy. In Chinese medicine, spring is associated with the liver and gallbladder—the systems responsible for movement, direction, detoxification, and decisionmaking. Energetically and physiologically, this is the season of upward flow, growth, and renewed momentum.

Yet each spring, many people experience the opposite: fatigue, irritability, disrupted sleep, digestive issues, headaches, or pain flare-ups. Rather than feeling clear and energized, they feel congested, restless, or stuck.

With simple neurological support, we can ensure the transition into spring brings lighter minds, lighter bodies, and feelings of hope and inspiration. Spring is a neurological and metabolic transition from winter conservation into movement and expression.

In Chinese medicine, the liver governs the smooth flow of energy and blood throughout the body. The gallbladder supports decision-making, coordination, and directional clarity. When these systems are overloaded or stagnant, symptoms arise not only physically but also emotionally, such as frustration, tension, and irritability.

The liver and gallbladder do not function in isolation. The ability to detoxify, regulate hormones, and support digestion is directly influenced by the nervous system. During winter, the nervous system naturally shifts toward conservation and protection. As spring arrives, light exposure increases and activity rises, and the body is asked to mobilize. Our job is to prepare it to do so.

The ability to detoxify, regulate hormones, and support digestion is directly influenced by the nervous system.

True liver support is not about forcing elimination. It is about restoring communication—between the brain, the nervous system, the muscles, and the organs. With that coordination, the liver can perform its function efficiently.

Spring health is less about doing more and more about allowing movement to return naturally. This means prioritizing nervous system regulation before intensity. Our spring protocols include QNRT, BRT, and our 30-day gut restore program to restore digestive health, immunity, and detoxification pathways; balance the nervous system and circadian rhythms; and restore clear neurological communication while charging mitochondrial function and clearing inflammation.

In Chinese medicine, the liver is also associated with vision—both literal and metaphorical. When liver function is supported, people often report clearer thinking, better decisionmaking, improved mood, and a renewed sense of direction. These are not abstract. They reflect improved neurological and metabolic coherence.

Spring is the season of growth—and growth requires order.

When we treat this seasonal change as a time of recalibration rather than acceleration, the body transitions out of winter smoothly. Energy rises without spikes. Digestion improves. Pain patterns soften. Emotional tension releases. The liver and gallbladder regain their natural rhythms.

The spring season can be a time of recalibration, renewed hope and inspiration, and a move forward with clear order and organization for this year’s goals, visions, and directives. 

FROM THE SKI SLOPES TO YOUR BRAIN

Wake up your inner Olympian with hypnotherapy

“Whether it is someone wrestling with insomnia that’s disrupted their life for years or an executive wanting to optimize their performance, hypnotherapy offers an effective pathway to lasting change.”
—Megan McCann

We live in a valley where high performance isn’t just valued—it’s fundamental to the way we live. Professional athletes and Olympians train on our mountains. Successful entrepreneurs and artists flood our coffee shops. The culture of excellence is unavoidable, and it inspires us to reach new heights.

Yet in this high-performing town, there’s also a paradox: the same mindset that drives achievement can also become the barrier that prevents it. Comparison, imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and undervaluing ourselves are all unconscious thought patterns that can cripple us. How do we break through when we’re repeatedly sabotaging ourselves?

I’ve wrestled with this question for over two decades, since my days as a Division 1 college athlete. I watched myself—and countless teammates—undermine our own potential, not from lack of skill, but from what was happening inside our heads.

Take Major League Baseball, for example. A .300 batting average is exceptional. Hall of Fame-worthy, even. But here’s the reality—that batter fails seven out of ten times. Seven failures for every three successes. So, which defines them—the three wins or the seven losses? Both are true. But how we internalize that ratio reshapes our neural pathways, either building resilience and confidence or ingraining fear and self-doubt.

What most people don’t realize is that we spend 95% of our lives on autopilot—decisions, behaviors, and reactions are driven by the subconscious. Only 5% operate at the conscious level, and here’s the kicker: most of our subconscious thoughts were formed before age seven. Habits, beliefs, and automatic responses are formed long before we become aware enough to question them.

This is exactly why, as a counselor and coach, I decided to dive headfirst into hypnotherapy. (Pun intended!) I realized that while still helpful, traditional talk therapy only addresses the surface of who we are. In contrast, hypnotherapy works with the other 95% (our subconscious thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that were developed in childhood but are reinforced daily).

Hypnosis uses a series of inductions to put the brain into the theta state. The critical brain slows down, giving us direct access to the subconscious. Because our brains are neuroplastic, we can create

new neural pathways to shape our thinking. But can I make you cluck like a chicken or rob a bank? The answer is NO.

After introducing hypnotherapy, I began to realize how much misinformation there is. When people think about hypnotherapy, they often refer to what they have seen in movies or at the circus. This is not the same.

During hypnotherapy, the client is highly alert. My goal is to guide the person into the theta brainwave state using a variety of techniques. When they reach this state, I use positive suggestions to achieve their therapeutic goals, ranging from sleep, addiction, PTSD, weight, habits, memory, relationships, and more. Whether it is someone wrestling with insomnia that’s disrupted their life for years or an executive wanting to optimize their performance, hypnotherapy offers an effective pathway to lasting change.

You can spend years talking about why you can’t sleep, understanding your relationship patterns, or knowing you should exercise—but if your subconscious hasn’t gotten the memo, nothing changes. This is why hypnosis works. While traditional talk therapy can take months or even years to create meaningful change, my clients often see significant results within just six sessions or less. This isn’t because hypnotherapy is a shortcut, but because it works with the part of your brain where change actually happens—the subconscious.

It’s not magic—it’s neuroscience. And it’s why clients often leave our work together wondering why they didn’t try this first. 

DONAVON FRANKENREITER RETURNS

This time it’s an acoustic evening

A truly great artist is always expanding their horizons, and over the years, Sun Valley audiences have experienced Donavon Frankenreiter in many of his talented offerings, from full-band, record-breaking tour challenges to perhaps the most exciting yet: an all-acoustic set featuring his down-to-earth folk rock, a signature sound that never disappoints. Known for his hits Free, It Don’t Matter and Move By Yourself, among others, Frankenreiter captures a groovy spirit rooted in classic vibes, delivering an unforgettable performance.

RJK Entertainment and The Argyros present Donavon Frankenreiter’s Ask Me Anything Tour (Intimate Duo Acoustic Evening) on Friday, March 27, for a performance featuring the very best of Frankenreiter’s strings, lyrics, and vocals.

For nearly two decades, Donavon Frankenreiter has traveled the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. Born in Southern California, Donavon spent most of his youth chasing waves and turned pro at 16. These days, instead of surf competitions, concert halls bring Frankenreiter to town, where he entertains audiences with his unique blend of laid-back grooves, philosophical lyrics, and soulful delivery.

Frankenreiter released his first studio album in several years in September 2024. The album, Get Outta Your Mind, marks the 20th anniversary of his self-titled debut.

The Unbroken Project

February 27–March 26

Ecuadorian photographer Felipe Jácome’s first solo exhibition at Gilman Contemporary showcases work from the series The Unbroken Project. Created in collaboration with Ukrainian dancer and photographer Svitlana Onipko, the series reflects on how art endures amid war. Each photograph captures current and former members of the Ukrainian National Ballet mid-dance, revealing the grace, power, and vulnerability of their movement. These fleeting gestures, shaped by collective memory, emerge as acts of quiet defiance.

Printed in black on empty bullet casings, the dancers’ silhouettes transform objects of violence and brutality into vessels of meaning. The work embodies a tension between delicacy and destruction, with each piece carrying physical and symbolic weight that underscores art’s capacity for resistance and transformation in the face of war. A portion of the proceeds from every sale will be donated to Ukrainian relief.

Jan C. Schlegel

German photographer Jan C. Schlegel’s black-andwhite images capture the profound beauty and delicate fragility of life. Known for captivating portraits and still-lifes, Schlegel’s work reveals the bare essence of his subjects. Whether it is a portrait of a person, a jellyfish, phytoplankton, or a tulip, each image is filled with a tender, quiet intimacy. Schlegel uses traditional photographic printing methods. Each hand-toned and printed platinum print is a meditation in stillness, craft, and artistic vision. Of his series My Secret Garden, which captures tulips in various stages of bloom, Schlegel writes:

“The title My Secret Garden reflects a private space of discovery, where visual language becomes a way to process feelings and reflect on what it means to be close, to be vulnerable, and to observe. Across many cultures, gardens have symbolized harmony, paradise, and personal growth. Tulips, too, carry layers of meaning—grace, love, the fleeting nature of life. This body of work is not about flowers alone. It’s about the quiet, sometimes uncertain journey of opening up to beauty—where it’s found, and where it leads.”

Matt Duffin

Gilman Contemporary presents new paintings by Matt Duffin. Trained as an architect, Duffin brings a rigorous understanding of structure, perspective, and spatial tension to his practice, where precision gives way to wit and psychological nuance. Executed in encaustic wax, these labor-intensive works are built through layers of sharp planes, compressed space, and a restrained palette that heightens their emotional charge. Duffin’s paintings hover between realism and imagination, drawing viewers into scenes that feel both familiar and slightly off-kilter.

Across these new works, Duffin continues his exploration of contradiction, pairing darkness with humor and unease with playfulness. Inanimate objects and recognizable figures are animated into quiet protagonists, each caught in moments that suggest solitude, irony, or absurd resolve. Duffin describes humor as a universal language, and here it becomes a subtle entry point into deeper emotional terrain. The works invite a deeper look, providing moments of reflection and an occasional smile, as the strange and quietly human worlds within them begin to unfold.

New works by

Untamed presents a bold selection of new works by contemporary Western artist Rudi Broschofsky, expanding the visual language of Western art through a dynamic, modern lens. Broschofsky uses spray paint and hand-cut stencils to transform iconic imagery of the American West into highimpact compositions defined by color, contrast, and rhythm. His work captures the frontier’s rebellious energy while infusing it with a distinctly urban edge.

Untamed
The Roper by Rudi Broschofsky spray paint on panel 30” x 36”

Rooted equally in street art and Western tradition, Broschofsky’s paintings sit at the intersection of grit and polish. Layers of vibrant pigment, sharp graphic forms, and precise stenciling create works that feel immediate and kinetic—images that echo familiar Western symbols while pushing them into contemporary territory. Horses, riders, and moments of tension and motion are rendered with confidence and restraint, emphasizing attitude, movement, and individuality.

Untamed highlights the expanding scope of contemporary Western art. Broschofsky honors the independent spirit and visual heritage of the West while confidently breaking from convention. This body of work invites viewers to reconsider what Western art can be today—fearless, experimental, and unmistakably modern.

Also on exhibition

Broschofsky Galleries also features works by Bill Barrett, Duke Beardsley, Russell Chatham, Edward Curtis, Jan Grotenbreg, Kollabs, Joan Mitchell, Ken Peloke, Billy Schenck, Fritz Scholder, Theodore Villa, Andy Warhol, and David Yarrow.

Almost Like

Peppi Bottrop, Mathew Cerletty, Benjamin Langford, Stuart Middleton, Robert Rauschenberg, Amanda Ross Ho, Analia Saban, Henrik Munk Soerensen, and others

March 13-April 24

Almost Like gathers works that hover in the charged space between thing and depiction, presenting objects and images that feel uncannily familiar while never fully resolving into what they resemble. Across the exhibition, everyday motifs and materials are pushed through processes of translation such as printing, weaving, rubbing, and precision rendering, resulting in works that function less as copies than as proxies.

These stand-ins carry traces of touch, labor, and mediation, drawing attention to surface and structure as subjects in themselves. The exhibition ultimately stages a choreography of nearness, asking viewers to consider how meaning shifts when the “real” is rerouted through pattern, archive, and technique, and how recognition gives way to doubt in that subtle interval.

Evidence

Evidence features large-format photography by Laura McPhee, Luis Gonzales Palma, Jack Spencer, and Laura Wilson. This exhibition explores the traces of human presence, along with botanical images and portraits of cultural suppression. Gonzales Palma, McPhee, Wilson, and Spencer capture the subtle histories of place, using the camera to examine what is visible, what is implied, and what has been left unresolved.

Jacquard Tapestries

As one of the world’s oldest art forms, tapestries have evolved over thousands of years and across many cultures. This exhibit celebrates contemporary artists working in this time-honored medium. Hung Liu, Squeak Carnwath, Kiki Smith, April Gornik, Diane Andrews Hall, and Don and Era Farnsworth create beautifully executed Jacquard tapestries woven on historic Belgian looms.

Mist

A group painting exhibition featuring works by Lynda Lowe, Raphaëlle Goethals, Nicole Charbonnet, Pegan Brooke, and Mario Reis. This exhibition explores how each artist, working in varied mediums and techniques, creates mysterious subjects in which light and atmosphere commingle. Veiled in ambiguity, the tonal shifts and tactile surfaces of each painting invite the viewer to meditate on movement, stillness, memory, and meaning.

New works by Thom Ross

Mary Anning

Mary Anning is one of the world’s greatest fossil hunters. Born in 1799 in Dorset, England, Mary excelled at collecting from a very early age. By the time she was twelve, she had discovered the world’s first ichthyosaur skeleton. Twelve years later, she uncovered the first complete skeleton of a plesiosaur, a longnecked marine reptile. Often risking her own safety, she worked the treacherous cliffs of Lyme Regis in the dead of winter when violent storms helped to uncover what lay buried millions of years ago. Despite her immense contributions, she was largely excluded from 19th-century scientific society due to her gender and social class. It wasn’t until twelve years after her death that Darwin would publish

his theory of evolution in 1859. Today, it’s hard to overstate the magnitude of her discoveries. Her work sparked a new way of thinking about the world, and she is now regarded as the “Mother of Paleontology.”

Best known for his striking depictions of the American West, Thom Ross describes himself as “a storyteller who paints.” For over forty years, he has delved into the overlooked corners and footnotes of history for inspiration. In March, Hemmings Gallery will unveil two large-scale acrylic paintings of Mary Anning by Ross. With this larger-than-life subject, Ross has once again found the perfect muse.

Idaho landscapes by Melissa Graves Brown

Rooted in Color

Opening Night Friday, March 6, 5-7:30pm

Melissa Graves Brown’s work is inspired by a deep connection to nature and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. As a native of Fort Myers, Florida, she spent much of her childhood outdoors, fostering a love that continues to influence her paintings today. She earned her BFA from Auburn University and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, where she received honors in color achievement. For the past 26 years, she has lived in Idaho, where her love for nature and color can flourish.

“I’m inspired by Idaho’s majestic landscapes and seasons. My favorite moments are in fall, when the leaves catch the wind and lift off the trees against a big, blue Idaho sky. I work with acrylic paint, which allows me to quickly layer washes, drips, and brush strokes. I will often lay my canvas flat and splatter paint from above to create a sense of motion and life within each piece. My aim is to create compositions that transport viewers into a daydream or allow people to simply experience joy,” says Brown.

“Nature is the main inspiration for my work, especially trees and the way they embody life’s quiet resilience. I never tire of exploring the vivid spectrum of colors that nature offers and how to use them as a visual language to express my imagination and emotions. My intention with each piece is to create a dialogue between the viewer and the natural world, to invite others to see beyond the surface and delve into the wonder and mystery that lies deep within ourselves and the world around us.”

Saddletree Gallery West

Jules Frazier

Now showing at Saddletree Gallery West, Jules Frazier presents a focused selection of photography from her American West and Mountain Chic collections, with special emphasis on the Year of the Horse.

At the center of the exhibition is Bland Horse, part of the American West Collection—a striking portrait that speaks to strength, grace, aspiration, and the enduring myth of the West. Frazier’s connection to horses began at eight years old, when she fell in love with her first horse—an experience that sparked a fascination she would continue to follow for more than three decades.

Below: Bland Horse by Jules Frazier 24” x 16”
Bottom: Girl on Horseback by Jules Frazier 48” x 32”

Though Frazier participated in only one rodeo, the encounter became a point of entry into a much longer visual journey. Over time, that curiosity evolved into a sustained exploration of the American West and its icons, culminating in her acclaimed coffee-table book, Faded Icons of the West .

That same trajectory ultimately led to the realization of a dream she never knew existed: riding on horseback across Africa on safari. Across landscapes and cultures, the horse remained a powerful constant.

Bland Horse embodies that continuity—an image that celebrates the horse as a symbol of power, elegance, and possibility, and a fitting tribute to the Year of the Horse. Also featured are Girl on Horseback, Posse, and Black Stallion

Link Jackson

Link Jackson was born in Montana to a backcountry guide and sportsman. He roamed the wild places throughout his life, fly fishing, running rivers, backcountry skiing, backpacking, and pursuing other outdoor adventures. The camera has always been his constant companion. He studied the arts in college and paid some of his college costs by selling his paintings. Link’s prior business, Streamtech Boats, and global adventure travel gave access to collect thousands of images along the way, resulting in a rich portfolio of landscape photography and reference images for his watercolor paintings. His works have appeared in galleries, magazine spreads, books, and in product advertising. His works have also won several awards.

Also on exhibition

Saddletree Gallery also features original artwork by Ed Anderson, Dolan Geiman, and Nancy Gervais. Prints and photographs by Jack Weekes, Sandra Shaw, Ed Cannady, Tony Moody, and Mike Pepper. Modern and vintage maps, vintage black and white Sun Valley photos, posters of all types, and much more.

Pioneer Saloon

Walking into the Pioneer Saloon in Ketchum is like greeting an old friend. It’s often the first stop for locals coming home or visitors starting a memorable vacation. For more than 50 years, the Pioneer has been welcoming its loyal customers with a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels more like someone’s home than a restaurant. Renowned for perfectly aged and flavorful beef, many varieties of seafood, fresh Idaho rainbow trout, and Northwest regional specials, the Pioneer is much more than a steakhouse. Unique and historic western art fills the bar and restaurant, reminiscent of earlier days when pioneers settled in this valley. Authentic and genuine friendly service from familiar faces will make you feel as though you have arrived home when you walk in the door. As the locals say, “If you haven’t been to the Pioneer Saloon, you haven’t been to Ketchum.”

Always busy with a fun mix of locals and visitors alike, The Sawtooth Club has been downtown Ketchum’s most beloved destination for dining and cocktails since the days when Ernest Hemingway himself was a regular there. Nowadays, the place is more popular than ever with an inspired menu offering a mouthwatering blend of creative small plates to share, grilled steaks, chops & ribs, healthy vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, unique pasta bowls, nightly specials, and much more.

In the bar, enjoy handcrafted cocktails, 16 wines by the glass, and 12 ice-cold craft brews on tap. Dinner offerings this season include fresh Idaho trout, filet mignon, linguine with clams, chicken Senegalese, flatiron steak bearnaise, rack of lamb, ribeye steak, butternut squash ravioli, Manchester Farms quail, BBQ baby back ribs, vegan noodle bowl, Wagyu beef meatloaf, pasta Portofino, baked brie en croute, fresh steamer clams, seared ahi salad, awesome burgers and sandwiches, to name just a few.

Much of our grilling is done over a live mesquite fire. This method of natural wood cooking generates the intense heat that sears in the flavorful juices and imparts a variety of subtle tastes and aromas to meat, poultry and seafood.

An award-winning wine list complements the wonderful food, and winter nights around the large central fireplace are not to be missed. One visit and you’ll know why The Sawtooth Club has repeatedly been voted the “Valley’s Best Overall Restaurant and The Valley’s Best Bar!”

The Cellar Pub

Head down the stairs and you’re instantly in one of Ketchum’s classic rites of passage—a traditional pub energy hit with the perfect pint of Guinness waiting at the bottom. The Cellar’s patio hums in summer, but inside is where the magic happens: locals, visitors, and ski bums packed around wooden tables, digging into Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, or the legendary Old-Fashioned Bar Burger.

Late-night? Even better. The full bar is stacked with draft beers and daily drink-and-shot specials. Music and sports memorabilia cover the walls, giving the whole place that lived - in, good -times - happen - here feel. Wander to the back and you’ll find booths made for storytelling, a free full - size shuffleboard table that’s probably older than half the crowd and a Big Buck Hunter arcade game. You don’t just leave The Cellar Pub with a full belly—you leave with a story.

Michel’s Christiania

Few other restaurants in Ketchum are as steeped in history as the legendary Christiania. Known as “The Christy” to locals, the restaurant has been in operation since 1959 when Ernest Hemingway dined there so often he had his own table. To get your own glimpse of ski history, come to the famous Olympic Bar, where photos and mementos from former owner Michel Rudigoz’s time as the U.S. Women’s Olympic Ski Team Coach adorn the walls. For a true culinary experience, you will enjoy French cuisine

that is also inspired by Michel’s background in Lyon (the country’s culinary capital). Your meal will be a pièce de résistance! Entrées like Wild Salmon in Sorrel Sauce and Braised Lamb Shank appear nightly on the menu in addition to an infusion of specials like the Poisson du Jour and Pâté de Campagne. The menu also features Lyonnaise pomme frites and fresh salads and, of course, Michel’s famous and extensive wine list.
