A Message from Jean Osthus, President Welcome back to SLGA league play! Our full calendar of league golf, tournaments and socials is included in this newsletter. Our SLGA golf community is all about connection, fun and improving our golf game together in a judgement-free zone. Course closures and excessive heat has challenged many of us during the off season but hopefully everyone is anxious to get back together for some fun and competitive golf. We start off with our fun SLGA Quarterly on September 15th which will be a ABCD scramble with a board meeting following in the Magnolia Room. Super fun format and a cool place to gather after a warm Florida golf round. October through December we will have some great competitive golf and of course two of our favorites: the Halloween & the Holiday tournaments so get your teams put together. The board is so happy to welcome several new members over this last year. In these events it is often hard for them to find a team, so please look at mixing it up in the coming year. Whether it is a four person team or two person team, find that relatively new person who would enjoy being included!!! Can’t wait to see you all back on the first tee.

It’s election season! And not just the national or state elections, but the SLGA Executive Board elections for the offices of Vice President and Treasurer! These offices will be filled by an SLGA member in good standing for a 2-year term, beginning January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2028. The vote will take place during the November 2026 business meeting, so please be sure to attend. Per SLGA Bylaws, the Nominating Committee “shall nominate at least one candidate each” for each open office. The slate of nominees shall be presented at the October business meeting, followed by the vote in November. We currently have a candidate for each position from current officers willing to serve a second term:

As we enter tournament season, maintaining pace of play ensures an enjoyable experience for all members and helps prevent course-wide backups. Please keep the following best practices in mind during your round:

Play ready golf whenever possible. Be prepared to hit when safe rather than strictly adhering to away-first play on approach shots and around the greens.

Be realistic about lost ball searches. If a ball is likely lost, acknowledge it quickly and play a provisional. Avoid spending unnecessary time searching for a ball that is unlikely to be found.

Limit pre-shot routine time. A good benchmark is 30-40 seconds from arriving at your ball to executing the shot. Make reads and decisions while others are playing so you are ready when it is your turn.

Read greens while others putt. Get your initial read while walking onto the green so additional time is minimal when it is your turn.

Leverage the mobile sand bottles. Drop one player at their ball with a sand bottle while others proceed forward with clubs in hand.

Keep up with the group ahead, not away from the group behind. This is the true pace-of-play standard. If a gap forms in front of your group, it contributes to coursewide delays regardless of pressure from behind.

A Message from Jean Osthus, President April has flown by and it has been an honor serving as the President of this group of amazing women in my first four months! We will be taking a break over the summer months, and have many fun events scheduled for this fall. Many thanks to Donna Adams and Carolyn Knudsen for organizing the SLGA member member “Bee the Best” tournament. We just finished this season’s Race to SLGA Globe event, and the results are posted below. We will start next season’s Race to SLGA Globe in November. Congratulations to the winners of the SLGA Member/Member, Ladies Club Championship and Queens of the Greens event (see below). There is beauty in everyone’s efforts to become a better and more confident golfer. Just a little inspiration to believe in yourself and be proud of who you are, I want to share a quote from Arnold Palmer: “Success in this game depends less on strength of body than of mind and character.” Just a reminder, courses will be shut down starting the beginning of May for maintenance, so no SLGA organized golf until September 15th. Enjoy your summer!!!

Race to the Globe

Our season-long Race to the Globe Challenge has ended. Any participant who earned 9 or more points received a payout in sweeps. Congratulations to Pat Matthews for being our overall winner, and a shout out to everyone who participated! See results below.

The SLGA Board of Directors (BOD) will have the offices of Vice President and Treasurer coming open for a 2-year term beginning January 2027. Both offices will be elected by the membership at the SLGA General Business meeting in November 2026. Per SLGA Bylaws, the Nominating Committee shall nominate one candidate for each open office. If you would like to learn more about the duties of the offices of VP and Treasurer in consideration of serving, please contact Pat Matthews, Nominating Committee Chair. In Remembrance ... SLGA lost one of our finest ladies recently. Catharine “Kit” Otto-Rieke passed away on Easter Sunday. For those of us who knew Kit, we will always remember her genuine kindess, her quick wit, and her effervescent positivity. She was indeed a true lady, and a wonderful human.

Did You Know? The newly added cart path between #10 & #18 Classic, made of crushed coquina rock, does NOT allow for cart path relief. You must play it as it lies whenever your ball lies on this surface.

A Message from Jean Osthus, President March was such a busy golf month - it seems to have flown by. Congrats to those who placed in the Suntree Ladies Member Guest. What a fun 3 days spent with friends, family or acquaintances! Many thanks to Cindy Jackson and her committee. The St. Patrick’s Day quarterly offered some challenging cold weather & wind, but many of you stayed committed and came out to play golf. You also learned a little Irish Trivia. Thank you to Nancy Garbedian and her committee. April is a busy month with the SLGA Member/Member tournament and the Ladies Club Championship. So get out on the range or course to sharpen up your game before these signature events. If you haven’t yet - get yourself registered! I just want to encourage you to stay patient with your game and other’s games. Our expectations are always so high, but we can all achieve our goals with a little practice, patience and encouragement from a fellow golfer. Just a reminder, the course shutdowns will start the beginning of May for maintenance, so no SLGA organized golf until September 15th.

In Remembrance ... We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Lee Tull, beloved husband of Vicki Tull. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Vicki and their family. The family has requested support of the Alzheimer’s Association in remembrance of Lee.

Hello ladies of SLGA We are thrilled to see our golf community thriving. Looking forward to all our fun March events and hopefully warmer weather!! Golf is known as a sport of challenges and rewards. Little did we know that frost delays were going to be one of those challenges. You will see on the calendar below that we have moved the ringer game of Queen’s Gambit to March 10th. You are welcome to sign up even if you didn’t play the first round but of course chances of winning are higher for those who played the first round. Still a good day to golf with your friends. Congrats to all the Presidents’ Cup winners (see below). The highlights for March golf are the Member/Guest club tournament and of course the very popular St Patricks Day ABCD quarterly. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the course for some fun, laughter and great golf.

olf activities during the winter season in Florida can G be a challenge. Kudos to all who showed up for our Par Three Quarterly! Congrats to the winners of this fun event, and as we all know this weather pattern will continue so stay strong. The next big event for SLGA is the Presidents’ Cup, a 2 day stroke play tournament on February 10 & 12 on the Classic course. This is a “Race to SLGA Globe” signature tournament event which rewards you 1 globe point for just playing and more if you place in your flight.

The board is very excited to welcome several new members into the group! Just a reminder to all members to show them the wonderful golf & social network that SLGA offers.

A Message from Jean Osthus, President Happy New Year SLGA Ladies!

The SLGA board is excited to start a new year with many fun weeklies and tournaments. The “Race to SLGA Globe” is one of our major events this year and will run through the end of April. Everyone is enrolled and you just need to play in the Race to Globe events to earn points. In January there is one event on Jan 6th Net Points. In February there will be two events, President’s Cup and Net points.

You may have noticed that the summer games have been removed from our calendar and this was due to low participation along with multiple course closures. Due to this we are increasing all payout schedules for both weeklies and tournaments. There still will be SLGA tee slots reserved for the summer when both courses are open, just call the Pro Shop to get signed up and there might even be a fun side game. I’m so excited to be your new President and look forward to the upcoming season to enjoy good golf and fun social interaction. SLGA is the best way to meet ladies in the club and enjoy a sport we love. Cheers to 2026 and see you on the course!
