Classical Meets Hip-hop Duo Black Violin

An Artfully Curated Musical Season Of “Juxtapositions” Timeless Classics Of Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, Mozart And Ravel To Contemporary Works From Grammy Nominees

Grammy-nominated Dillard High School Of The Performing Arts Graduates Release New Album

GRAMMY-winning cellist Zuill Bailey joins SFSO to open its 28th Season featuring the spirit of “Juxtapositions” on Nov. 5 at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale.

Black Violin members Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus met on the first day of orchestra class in 1996 at Dillard High School of the Performing Arts.

The fusion of the bold with the sublime, the union of the achingly beautiful and the utterly divine and the reverence of the old and the new define the spirit of “Juxtapositions,” the theme of South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s (SFSO) adventurous 28th Season. Award-winning Maestra Sebrina María Alfonso conducts an artfully curated lineup of celebrated works, including several Symphony premieres emerging with unexpected contrasts. Highlights include Shostakovich’s introspective final Symphony No. 15, Prokofiev’s triumphant Symphony No. 5, Mendelssohn’s “Italian,” two cherished Beethoven works –the luminous Piano Concerto No. 4 and breezy 4th Symphony, Mozart’s vivacious “Haffner,” and Rossini’s grand choral masterpiece, Stabat Mater. Plus, fresh Symphony premieres by contemporary composers including GRAMMY nominees Carlos Simon and Nathalie Joachim, featuring breakout cellist Seth Parker Woods, “a cellist of pro-

Just a few weeks ago, GRAMMY-nominated classicalmeets-hip-hop duo Black Violin released “Beautiful Day” featuring R&B legend Lalah Hathaway, the final single from their album Full Circle. Produced by Phil Beaudreau (Dr. Dre, Justin Bieber, The Game), the album marks a bold new chapter for the genre-defying duo. The duo also announced an extensive fall U.S. tour, full list of dates can be found on their website: https:// blackviolin.net/ ‘Beautiful Day’ is a reminder that no matter the chaos that surrounds us, there is always beauty in the present moment,” says Black Violin’s Wil Baptiste. “It’s about choosing to see the light, embracing the small joys, and grounding ourselves in the life that’s happening right now.” Black Violin members Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus met on the first day of orchestra class in 1996 at Dillard High School of the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. Baptiste originally wanted to play saxophone in the band, but the orchestra teacher
