“This exhibit was wonderful. I doubt that I may ever have the opportunity to visit the real Sistine Chapel, so this exhibit gave me an informative and beautiful representation of what I might see. Plus, the visuals were large and up close so I could see more detail and really experience the artistry and talent and spiritual insight of Michelangelo. I took part in the audio tour which was very informative.”

FOOL’S GOLD:
The Art Of the Steal And The Privatization Of The Presidency
John & Nisha Whitehead
In his State of the Union address, President Trump declared that America is entering a “Golden Age.” Golden for whom?
For a president who lives lavishly in a taxpayer-funded mansion, jets around to weekend golf getaways at taxpayer expense, and dismisses concerns about “affordability” as fake news, life might indeed be gilded.
For the rest of the country, it is fool’s gold.
Nearly six-in-ten Americans say the country is worse off now than it was a year ago. Groceries cost more. Utilities cost more. Housing costs more.
For millions of families, this is not a golden age.
It is a painful lesson in imperial economics: the billionaire class lives large while “we the people” are told to live small.
Trump is not working to make America great again. He is working to expand his wealth, protect his investments, and rule in gilded comfort at taxpayer expense.
As a candidate, Trump promised to “drain the swamp.”
Instead, the swamp has been privatized.
When it comes to the true state of our nation, Americans would do well to examine not just what the Trump administration has accomplished—or failed to accomplish—but who has profited.
The highest public office in the land has become a personal revenue stream for Donald Trump & Co.—a vehicle for private enrichment that monetizes access, influence and public assets while the public pays the tab.
To monetize the presidency is to treat public power as property—something to be leased, leveraged and exploited for private gain.
This is how you bilk a nation.
The man who once lent his name to the ghostwritten The Art of the Deal is now authoring a far more instructive manual: The Art of the Steal—a step-by-step guide to how to convert a constitutional republic into a personal brand.
According to the New York Times Editorial Board,
the Supreme Court’s ruling against his tariff policy—don’t believe it. That’s just another money grab.
A $10 Billion taxpayer buy-in to a privatized Board of Peace created and controlled by Trump in perpetuity with no real oversight or accountability.
$230 Million in damages Trump claims he is owed over investigations into his own past misconduct.
Another $10 Billion in damages which Trump claims he is owed after an IRS contractor was convicted of leaking his tax information.
Millions in trademark rights and licensing fees tied to Trump’s name on public infrastructure. As trademark attorney Josh Gerben notes, “The move raises unusual questions about the intersection of public infrastructure and private brand ownership. While presidents and public officials have had landmarks named in their honor, a sitting president’s private company has never in the history of the United States sought trademark rights in advance of such naming.”
At least $23 Million from licensing Trump’s name overseas since his re-election.
$4 Billion flowing into Trump family coffers in the first year of his second term, including $867 Million through cryptocurrency ventures.
Public money redirected toward private allies and enforcement expansion:
$128 Million for an ICE warehouse purchased three years earlier for $29 million—a $100 million markup benefiting a Russian-backed company.
$15 Million earmarked to feed starving children internationally, which was instead impounded for OMB director Russell Vought’s security detail.
$51 Billion in taxes not paid by Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla in 2025 after receiving a 4.9% tax rate.
A $10 Billion government contract between the Army and Palantir, founded by Trump supporter Peter Thiel.
Foreign entanglements and gifts:
A $400 Million luxury plane from the Qatari government, which will be retrofitted at taxpayer expense for Trump’s official use as Air Force One and which he plans to take with him when he leaves office.
“While presidents and public officials have had landmarks named in their honor, a sitting president’s private company has never in the history of the United States sought trademark rights in advance of such naming.”
John & Nisha Whitehead
“Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 Billion… All told, Mr. Trump has profited from his return to the presidency by an amount of money equal to 16,822 times the median U.S. household income.”
Power attracts conmen and swindlers. It always has. But never has the grift been so openly institutionalized.
Just consider the entries in this administration’s ledger.
Personal indulgence and vanity projects:
$400 Million and counting for a White House ballroom underwritten by corporate giants whose regulatory futures sit squarely in presidential hands.
$70 Million for a luxury jet with a private bedroom so DHS Secretary Kristi Noem can fly around in comfort with her rumored partner.
$28 Million for an Amazon documentary on Melania Trump.
Tens of millions for Trump’s weekend golf trips to Mara-Lago, including what he charges the American taxpayer for the Secret Service to be housed at the resort.
Policy decisions that generate revenue or leverage:
Billions in stealth taxes disguised as “emergency” tariff revenues paid for by the American people. According to NPR, the federal government is now collecting roughly $30 Billion per month in tariff revenue—far more than it collected from import taxes before Trump returned to office—largely paid for by American consumers. So when Trump tries to sell Americans on the idea that tariffs could eventually replace income taxes—a clear bid to overturn
Hundreds of millions more from foreign government-linked investors gaining access through the purchase of the Trump family’s cryptocurrency ventures.
These are not isolated expenditures. They reveal a pattern.
They speak to the blueprint Trump has used to monetize his stint in the White House.
The Founders anticipated precisely this danger: a president tempted to convert public trust into private profit. The Constitution’s Foreign and Domestic Emoluments
Clauses were intended to prevent a president from profiting from office.
With Congress unwilling to enforce the Constitution and the courts slow to intervene, these guardrails have weakened.
As the Brennan Center concludes, “Not even the most notorious public corruption scandals from American history can match the scale of Trump’s profiteering in terms of total dollar amount.”
This is how access to power is sold to the highest bidders.
The American system of government was designed as a constitutional covenant: power delegated, limited, and bound by law.
What we are witnessing is transactional governance: access traded, favors exchanged, loyalty rewarded, and policy negotiated like a business deal.
This pay-to-play culture now permeates the highest levels of power.
The U.S. government is fast becoming a self-serving, money-laundering enterprise masquerading as legitimate authority.
The choice before us is not partisan. It is constitutional.
A republic cannot survive when public office becomes private property.
As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, this is how republics fall.
It is time to drain the swamp.

Advancing Pediatric Sports Medicine
Florida Panthers Captain Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov Announces Significant Seven-Figure Gift
Florida Panthers Captain Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov, a longtime supporter of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, recently joined patients and their families for a special celebration where he announced a significant seven-figure philanthropic gift to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation.
This exceptional gift will expand Pediatric Orthopedic and Sports Medicine services at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, supporting this program, which is ranked first in the state of Florida by U.S. News and World Report. The program cares for patients with acute emergency injuries, surgical needs, rehabilitation, injury prevention, education, concussion management, and athletic training services. In recognition of his significant seven-figure philanthropic investment and commitment to the health and recovery of young athletes, Aleksander Barkov’s name has been added to the sports medicine program, now known as Barkov Sports Medicine Program at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital [U18].
“It is because of the extraordinary generosity of donors, especially Sasha Barkov, that we can ensure our patients have access to the highest level of care and the encouragement they need to thrive,” said Kelley Morris, President of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and Memorial Foundation. “Through philanthropy, we surround patients and families with exceptional care and meaningful support every step of the way. For the young athletes we serve, recovery is about more than healing an injury, it’s about rebuilding confidence, rediscovering the joy of sport, and returning stronger both physically and emotionally.”
“Sasha’s been a long-time supporter of our patients here at the hospital. We have had the joy of watching him lift trophies and spirits! Our patients feel connected to Sasha and a visit or high five from him can change their emotional experience here,” said Caitlin Stella, CEO of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. “His support allows our teams to continue leading and advancing Pediatric Sports Medicine, getting children back to the activities they enjoy, with the inspiration and namesake of a Captain that leads with love and humility.”
The Barkov Sports Medicine Program [U18] is one of the region’s only comprehensive pediatric sports medicine programs. Its multidisciplinary team includes more than 11 Pediatric Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeons and three Sports Medicine Physicians, as well as Physical Therapists and Certified Athletic Trainers who work collaboratively to provide exceptional care across the full continuum — from emergency injury treatment to rehabilitation, education, injury prevention, and concussion management.
At the Barkov Sports Medicine Program [U18], young athletes at all levels receive specialized care for both acute injuries and chronic conditions, helping them safely return to the sports they love. The team serves as physicians for U.S. Figure Skating, USA Wrestling, and Olympic athletes, and exclusively provides athletic training services to 29 public high schools in Broward County, supporting more than 18,000 student athletes. A national leader in pediatric orthopedics, the program was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the 2025–2026 Best Children’s Hospitals for Orthopedics.
“My relationship with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is one of the greatest highlights of my life. It is an incredible institution taking care of children in the South Florida community and beyond,” said Sasha Barkov. “I truly appreciate the efforts of the entire medical and administrative staff that work every single day to improve the lives of kids.”
An NHL superstar on and off the ice, Barkov has long supported Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital through both philanthropy and personal engagement. During the season, he pledges a donation for every goal and assists to benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. He also donates the use of a suite at Amerant Bank Arena, providing patients
and their families with the opportunity to enjoy Florida Panthers games. His continued generosity helps advance the foundation’s mission to deliver exceptional, family-centered pediatric care to children throughout South Florida and beyond.
The celebration, held in the Child Life Zone at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, included a visit from Stanley C. Panther and Viktor E. Rat. Patients and families had the opportunity to meet Barkov, dance with the mascots, and enjoy games and activities together.
The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and Memorial Foundation advance philanthropy to positively impact patients and families through expert care, innovation, advanced technology, research, programs, services and facilities
that support the Memorial Healthcare System’s mission of healing the body, mind and spirit.

Hallandale Beach Is Happening
By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper
Over the past two weeks Hallandale Beach has been in the news for some exciting announcements. For the past few years, we have been strategically working to position our city as the place to move to, invest in and also to come and have some fun. We also still recognize the importance of our multiculturalism when it comes to the vibrance of our city.
Last month, Gulfstream hosted the Pegasus Cup which is the world’s wealthiest race with the winning purse of $3 Million dollars. This race not only brings horses from around the globe but many Thoroughbred owners’ trainers. It also brings with it stars and celebrities.
We hosted Mayor Davidi and Deputy Mayor Nahshonov of Sderot as part of our city partnership. In uniting with Sderot, we have made an impact far beyond our borders. We look forward to future cultural exchanges.
We welcomed the new Imam Serjeel Amed of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community here in Hallandale Beach. This Muslim
group has always supported the separation of religion and state. Their motto is Love for All Hatred for None. They believe in peace and have fully rejected all forms of terrorism. As our Muslim neighbors celebrate Ramadan, I wish them an easy fast. As we grow as a diverse welcoming City, we are seeing redevelopment taking root. Our plans to increase our available housing stock have created synergy and many developers are investing in our City. We broke ground this year on Seven Park. The property in front of Big Easy was sold and plans are underway to create a new mixed use development. The Big Easy is also looking to finally redevelop the casino and State-Of-The-Art entertainment center. Shell Bay, which is home to the exclusive golf course and Tennis Racquet Club, just topped off their 100-unit condominium. They are also moving forward with their other plans for additional hotel condominium units and their marina homes. Oasis is also getting close to topping off

their eastern tower.
While housing and entertainment are always important, commercial properties are also part of the plan. While we have seen some new Class A Office developments including Optima, Atlantic Village I, II and III. Commercial offices are vital to retain and attract new businesses, young professionals, and families.
Last week, after almost three years of negotiations with PPG 1800 LLC they applied for a new office building at the old post office. Originally Chick-fil-A wanted to buy and build there but withdrew interest. While Chick-fil-A is a great franchise it is actually the busiest with an average of 100 cars per hour. While residents were relieved, I am sure they realized that some type of development would occur there.
I did not mention this during the hearing as I did not want to muddy the water, but the owners could have built under live local residential mixed use of over 90 units since it is 1.3 acres. Originally, they asked for a much larger building. To address the concern raised by the community they
reduced the building to 22 stories. They worked with FDOT and actually received approval for a designated right turn. Hallandale Beach also has grown to be a true food city. In addition to our many classics this summer we welcome Meat n Bone, Murano by Ferrao and Verda along with many others at District 8. This Thursday, we will welcome London’s famous Signor Sassi. This will be their first U.S. location. Another new restaurant that is opening to the public on the Hemispheres Bay side, Patrizia’s Restaurant Italiano. Their first was in NYC and they opened in Fort Lauderdale three years ago. So, yes! Hallandale Beach is Happening and there’s more to come! of Product Management at Mercury Insurance. “Understanding what coverage actually does - and doesn’t - do can help people avoid unpleasant surprises after an accident.”
To help consumers stay informed, Mercury Insurance is sharing this lineup of auto insurance misconceptions that can affect coverage, cost and peace of mind - and the facts that stand in their place.
Myth No. 1:
You Can Negotiate Your Auto Insurance Premium
Fact: Insurance rates aren’t like haggling for a car price. They’re calculated using approved rating formulas and risk models regulated by state insurance departments, so you can’t negotiate a lower rate directly with your carrier. What you can do is shop for discounts, adjust coverage levels or improve your risk profile to influence your premium.
Myth No. 2: You Don’t Need Medical Payments
Coverage if You Have Health Insurance
Fact: Even if you carry health insurance, your auto policy’s medical payments or personal injury protection can still be valuable. These coverages may pay medical costs regardless of fault and can help cover expenses not covered by health insurance, including deductibles, co-pays, ambulance bills, lost wages and more, depending on state regulations.
Myth No. 3: Full Coverage Means You’re Covered for Everything
Fact: “Full coverage” is a common shorthand used to describe a policy that includes liability, comprehensive and collision coverage. Even with all three, coverage is still subject to limits, deductibles and exclusions, which means certain situations and expenses may not be covered unless additional protections are added.
Myth No. 4: All Insurance Companies are Basically the Same Fact: Each insurer has different underwriting guidelines, risk models, discount structures, serv-
ice levels and claims handling practices. Shopping only on price without comparing coverages and service reputation can lead to surprises when you need to file a claim.
Myth No. 5: A Not-At-Fault Accident Won’t Affect Your Rates
Fact: Even if you weren’t at fault, filing a claim can still influence your insurance score and possibly affect future pricing depending on your state and your carrier’s specific rating rules. Discuss the scenario with your agent before deciding whether or not to file.
Myth No. 6: New Cars are Always More Expensive to Insure Fact: A new car often costs more to insure than an older one, but this isn’t automatic. A new vehicle with high-end safety features or strong crashworthiness and theft-deterrent systems may be less expensive to insure than a different used model with poor safety ratings or costly repair costs.
Myth No. 7: Insurance Automatically Pays for a Rental After an Accident Fact: Rental car reimbursement is an optional add-on. Unless you specifically select rental reimbursement coverage, your auto policy won’t pay for a temporary vehicle while yours is being repaired.
Myth No. 8: If Your Car is Totaled, Insurance Pays Off Your Loan or Lease
Fact: Car insurance settlement is based on the vehicle’s actual cash value at the time of loss, not what you originally paid - meaning depreciation can leave you owing money on your loan or lease even after a total loss. Gap insurance is a separate optional coverage that can help cover the difference.
“Dispelling myths is about more than just good information - it’s about building insurance confidence,” Yoshizawa said. “We want drivers to make choices based on reality, not rumor.”
