Gold investment scams are booming: the elderly in Texas lost over $55 Million to gold scams, and for most of them, it was all their life savings.

While institutions still issue warnings on safe investments and fraud avoidance, and with gold prices reaching record highs and going beyond $5,000 per ounce, scammers are preying more and more on Americans, especially seniors, to invest.

In the last two years, FBI Boston documented over 100 instances of a courier being used to pick up illicit cash or gold bars, with financial losses totaling over $26 Million, and around 98% of these losses were reported by individuals over the age of 60.

5 Gold Scams Every American Should Know About, And How To Spot Them

Observer, as AI is easily accessible to everyone, financial scams are getting harder to spot and easier to commit, from generating websites to creating personal messages in seconds. He has identified five key gold scams that investors, especially seniors, should watch for amid booming gold prices.

By Investing a Little, You Might Be Losing a Lot More

It starts normally, an investor buys a small amount of gold at a regular price, from an ad in the paper. This isn’t necessarily a black-and-white scam. Real gold is sold at or slightly below the spot price, then the investor is repeatedly pressured to buy more expensive gold at heavily marked-up prices.

“This is not a con as we understand it, however, when

they are selling generational wealth in the ad, for elderly peo ple, it sounds like a good idea.

Chances are, they do not know the real prices, not only in gold value, but things like dealer costs. And by constantly getting pressured with calls, they easily spend much more than they should, leaving them high and dry in the end,” says Bourgi.

Social Media Shopping

Social Media is now not only meant for sharing memories or chatting with friends, but for shopping as well. It starts with a fake store, using a real store’s name, advertising gold or silver jewelry, with prices that, for some, would raise red flags, but to those less experienced, it would easily catch attention.

needs, as well as their family’s budgets. As a Leader in Experience award recipient, Jewish Family Home Care ranks among the top 10% of home care providers nationwide participating in the Activated Insights Experience Management program. This recognition reflects the organization’s sustained commitment to delivering outstanding experiences for both clients and caregivers. This accomplishment demonstrates JFHC’s long-term Care Awards, Page 2A

What many don’t realize is High LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) Cholesterol often plays a silent role behind the scenes. Taking control of Cholesterol numbers starts by knowing your LDL number and working with your doctor to put together an appropriate treatment plan. Your body produces all the Cholesterol it needs to stay healthy. Cholesterol helps make new cells, some hormones and substances that aid in food digestion. However, having too much Cholesterol can contribute to serious health risks.

Knowing more about Cholesterol and its role in your body and overall health can help you protect yourself from potential life-threatening conditions like Heart Attack or Stroke - even if you’ve already had one. Learn more with this information from the American Heart Association’s “Lower Your LDL Cholesterol Now” initiative, nationally sponsored by Amgen, so you can take control of your heart health.

Know Your Numbers

Keeping tabs on your Cholesterol is an important step toward managing potentially serious risks to your heart, brain and overall health. LDL Cholesterol, also known as “Bad” Cholesterol, can cause fatty buildup called plaque in your arteries.

Nearly 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. has High LDL (Bad) Cholesterol, but many don’t know until it’s too late. Having too much LDL (Bad) Cholesterol can silently increase your risk for Heart Attack and Stroke when it goes unchecked, but you have the power to change that. “A lot of people don’t realize they have high LDL (Bad) Cholesterol because it doesn’t have symptoms,” said Dr. Amit Khera, American Heart Association National Volunteer Expert and Cardiologist. “That’s why I always encourage my patients to get their Cholesterol checked and have honest conversations with their doctors. Knowing your LDL number is one of the most important things you can do to protect your heart.” Studies show an LDL at or below 100 milligrams per deciliter (mg/ dL) is ideal for most adults. If you have a history of Heart attack or Stroke and are already on a Cholesterol-lowering medication, your doctor may aim for your LDL to be 70 mg/dL or lower.

Get Tested

Don’t wait; schedule a Cholesterol test as soon as possible. High Cholesterol often has no symptoms, so it’s important to get your Cholesterol checked even if you feel fine. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends all adults 20 and older have their LDL (Bad) Cholesterol checked every 4-6 years as long as risk remains low. If you have had a heart attack or stroke, talk to your doctor about the right frequency of testing.

A blood test to measure your Cholesterol numbers, called a “fasting” or “non-fasting lipid profile or panel,” assesses several types of fat in the blood. The test gives four results: Total Cholesterol, LDL (Bad) Cholesterol, HDL

(Good) Cholesterol and Triglycerides (Blood Fats).

Talk to Your Doctor

Your doctor is there to help you reach your health goals, including keeping your LDL (Bad) Cholesterol at a healthy number. Making decisions together is the best way to create a treatment plan you’ll be more likely to stick to. If you don’t understand something, ask for further clarification.

Discuss your risk factors, including your personal and family medical history. Having a candid conversation about your lifestyle can also help pinpoint potential risk factors and areas you can work to reduce your risk and improve your health. If your LDL Cholesterol number is high, your doctor may recommend treatment options. Together, you can review the benefits, risks and side effects to decide on the treatment plan that works best for you.

Take Action Early

The sooner you manage High LDL (Bad) Cholesterol, the more you can reduce your risk of Heart Attack and Stroke. Proactively monitoring and taking steps to slow or reverse your numbers can halt or delay buildup in your arteries. In addition, treatment options can be more effective when a high LDL number is detected early.

Learn more about the steps you can take to combat high LDL (bad) cholesterol at: www.heart.org/LDL.

Living with High LDL (Bad) Cholesterol

If your LDL (Bad) Cholesterol is elevated, lifestyle changes can help lower your overall risk of Heart Disease, but may not be enough to counteract individual risk factors such as genetics and family history. Check your LDL (Bad) Cholesterol number then talk to your doctor about next steps, including these changes to take back control of heart health.

Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet

From a dietary standpoint, the best way to lower your Cholesterol is to follow a balanced diet, which is low in saturated fats, trans fats and Cholesterol. Following a heart-healthy diet means limiting your intake of fatty meats and dairy products made with whole milk. Choose lean cuts of meat and skim, low-fat or fat-free dairy products instead. It also means limiting fried foods and cooking with healthy oils, such as liquid vegetable oils instead of butter or coconut oil, which are high in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Be More Physically Active

A sedentary lifestyle lowers HDL (Good) Cholesterol. Less HDL means there’s less good Cholesterol to remove Bad Cholesterol from your arteries.

At least 150 minutes of moderateintensity aerobic exercise a week is enough to lower both Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure. Brisk walking, swimming, bicycling or even vigorous yard work can fit the bill. In addition, the American Heart Association recommends adding moderate- to high-intensity muscle-strengthening activity - such as resistance training or weightlifting - at least two days each week.

Quit Smoking

When a person with unhealthy Cholesterol numbers also smokes or vapes, the risk of Heart Disease increases even more. Smoking also compounds other risk factors for Heart Disease, such as High Blood Pressure and Diabetes. By quitting, smokers can lower their Triglycerides and increase their HDL Cholesterol numbers. Quitting can also help reduce damage and improve how the arteries function.

Lose Weight

Living with excess weight or Obesity tends to raise the chances of increasing LDL (Bad) Cholesterol and lowering good Cholesterol. Weight loss of even 5-10% may help improve some Cholesterol numbers and other Heart Disease risk factors.

Citizenship And Immigration Services Plays Key Role In Denaturalization Process To Begin For Former Mayor Of The City Of North Miami

www.uscis.gov

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration

Services in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice led an investigation that has resulted in the filing this week of a civil denaturalization complaint in the U.S. District Court of Miami, Florida against former Mayor of the City of North Miami, Philippe Bien-Aime.

Philippe Bien-Aime, also known as Jean Philippe Janvier, a native of Haiti, used two identities to procure immigration benefits — and eventually acquire U.S. citizenship — after illegally entering the United States.

Bien-Aime’s immigration fraud was discovered and confirmed through a comparison of fingerprints that he provided under the two identities. That comparison is part of an ongoing national initiative called the Historic Fingerprint Enrollment project, a joint effort of USCIS and the Justice Department.

Before he became a U.S. citizen under the name Philippe Bien-Aime, the defen-

4 Tips To Maximize Nutritional Goals

While On A GLP-1

The first GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) medication was approved for weight loss use more than a decade ago with new more effective versions being approved by the FDA over the past few years. As the use of these medications continues to rise, new research highlights the important role nutrition and lifestyle habits can play in supporting muscle, metabolism and long-term weight loss when using the medication.

Whether you’re new to GLP-1’s or navigating the next phase of your journey, small nutrition shifts powered by protein, fiber and hydration can help you feel strong, confident and supported.

Common side effects experienced by GLP-1 users are often digestive and include nausea, constipation, stomach pain, bloating and more. A pilot clinical trial by Atkins suggests pairing GLP-1 use with targeted macronutrients, especially protein and fiber, may support healthier body composition and a lower-carb diet with higher protein and fiber intake is well tolerated.

Feast On Fiber

Digestive slowdowns, including constipation, are among the most common GLP-1 side effects. Prioritizing fiber not only helps food move comfortably through the body, it supports your gut health and steady energy. Many fibers are prebiotics, meaning they promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Prioritize foods like apples, melon, berries, cruciferous vegetables and leafy greens to boost fiber intake.

Prioritize Protein When your appetite changes, structure helps. Anchoring your day with reliable protein sources helps make nutrition easy.

dant used a fraudulent, photo-switched passport to enter the United States under the name Jean Philippe Janvier. In 2001, Bien-Aime was placed in removal proceedings and ordered removed under the Janvier identity. He appealed the removal order, but he withdrew the appeal, representing that he had returned to live in Haiti. In reality, Bien-Aime remained in the United States and using the new name and date of birth, married a U.S. citizen to obtain permanent resident status. The marriage was fraudulent and invalid because he was already married to a Haitian citizen. After making numerous false and fraudulent statements in adjustment and naturalization proceedings, he naturalized in 2006 under the Bien-Aime identity.

The complaint alleges that Bien-Aime illegally procured naturalization for several reasons. First, he was subject to a final removal order, which disqualified him from naturalization and precluded the former

from considering his application for permanent resident status. Second, the removal order prohibited USCIS from considering his naturalization application and granting U.S. citizenship. Third, he did not lawfully adjust status to permanent resident because of his fraud and because his marriage was fraudulent and not legally valid. Fourth, he provided false or misleading information under oath in his adjustment and naturalization interviews to obtain immigration benefits when he denied that he was subject to a removal order and denied that he lied to U.S. government officials. He also provided false testimony about his children and former residential addresses. The complaint also claims that Bien-Aime’s naturalization

should be revoked because he concealed and misrepresented facts that were material to his qualifications for U.S. citizenship. The case was investigated by USCIS of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and will be litigated by the Affirmative Litigation Unit of the Civil Division’s Office of Immigration Litigation and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. To report suspected immigration benefit fraud or abuse to USCIS, please use the: https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/ uscis-tip-form.

Prioritizing protein may help prevent lean muscle loss, and nutrient dense protein sources can help you get enough essential nutrients to support overall health. Supporting a protein- and fiberrich diet can start with a solution like Atkins High Protein Shakes, which are packed with 30 grams of protein and 7 grams of prebiotic fiber and provide more than 20 essential vitamins and minerals. Designed to be an ally for your nutritional goals, they’re gluten-free, lowglycemic and keto-friendly with 3 grams of net carbs and 1 gram of sugar per serving. Experts recommend making sure you’re consuming enough protein to help limit lean muscle loss when using a GLP-1 to lose weight.

Hydrate to Help Prevent Side Effects GLP-1 users in particular are encouraged to prioritize fluids. Staying hydrated can help with both constipation

and nausea, two common side effects. Drinking water helps support kidney and liver function, which are vital for weight loss and overall health. Adequate fluids help food move through your body, combat fatigue and replenish losses from potential nausea or constipation, preventing complications and improving tolerance to GLP-1’s.

Eat Small, Frequent Meals

Large meals can feel uncomfortable when digestion slows. Instead, focus on smaller, more frequent eating moments that give your body a steady supply of nutrients without overwhelming your system.

For an easy, GLP-1 friendly option, try Atkins High Protein Bars, which are high in protein and fiber while minimizing net carbs. Available in flavors like Cookie Fusion, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Brownie Delight, they’re a satisfying way

to stay fueled between meals and a simple solution when appetite cues are muted. The snacks are designed to take the guesswork out of choosing highprotein, low-carb options that support your goals. Living well on a GLP-1 is about support, confidence and clarity. Consuming adequate amounts of protein and fiber, staying hydrated and maintaining daily structure can help you feel energized and empowered every step of the way. By following nutritional guidelines and making mindful lifestyle choices, GLP-1 users can experience better outcomes on their weight loss journeys.

FPL Shares Tips To Avoid Utility Scams As Florida Leads Nation In Fraud

For the second year in a row, Florida leads the nation in fraud reports, with more than 1,200 scams per 100,000 residents, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). During National Consumer Protection Week from Sunday, March 1st, 2026 - Saturday, March 7th, 2026, Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) is warning customers about utility scams and sharing steps to help keep customers from being targeted. Imposter scams are the most frequently reported type of fraud in Florida, according to FTC data, with nearly 50,000 cases of imposter scams between Jan. and Sept. 2025.

What are utility imposter scams?

Utility imposter scams occur when scammers impersonate trusted companies and demand payment from customers. Scammers are using increasingly sophisticated tactics, including:

• Manipulating internet search results to display fake websites or phone numbers.

• Posing as utility representatives seeking sensitive personal or financial information from customers who call these numbers unknowingly.

• Targeting customers by phone, text, email or even door-to-door, falsely claiming to be an FPL employee.

How can FPL customers protect themselves from utility scams?

FPL urges customers to stay alert and follow these tips to avoid scams:

• Contact FPL directly. Call the number on your bill. Or call: 1 (800) 697-5223 instead of searching online where scammers’ numbers may appear.

• Don’t rely on caller ID. Scammers can manipulate the name to appear to be FPL.

• Be cautious of urgent or odd payment requests. FPL will never demand immediate payment, ask customers to pay through Zelle or gift card, or threaten immediate disconnection.

• Trust your instincts. If something feels off, hang up and contact FPL directly.

• Delete suspicious texts or emails asking for payment.

• Verify representatives at your door. Shut the door and call the police if a visitor without FPL identification tries to collect payment or aggressively sell products.

• Spread scam awareness. Talk to loved ones about common scam tactics to keep them from becoming victims.

What should customers do if they suspect a scam?

Customers who suspect they have been targeted by a scam should immediately report it to FPL and local law enforcement. In case of phone or digital

scams, customers should also file a complaint with both the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Florida’s state consumer protection agency.

How is FPL mitigating scam activity?

FPL follows a well-established set of processes to ensure customer information remains secure and confidential.

• FPL works closely with local and state law enforcement agencies to investigate reported scams.

• Customer reports help FPL and local law enforcement identify fraud trends and can lead to investigations and arrests.

• As a member of Utilities Against Scams, FPL is committed to educating and spreading awareness across the industry on new trends and tactics.

“Imposter scams are designed to create urgency and fear, often pressuring victims to act before verifying a payment request,” said Francine Freitas, FPL spokesperson. “We encourage customers to verify any suspicious communications through our official channels and report suspected scams to our team and local law enforcement immediately.”

Your Next Best Friend Might Be Waiting Right Now

Every day, loving pets wait behind kennel doors for someone to see past the noise, the uncertainty, and the temporary sadness of shelter life—and into the loyal hearts beating within. At the Humane Society of Broward County, two special companions are hoping their next chapter begins with you. Sweet Bear and Charming Kitty have each lost the homes they knew through no fault of their own. Now, they’re waiting for families who will make their wishes come true.

Sweet Bear (ID 713452):

From Heartbreak to Hope

At just four years old and 34 pounds, Bear is the perfect midsize companion— big enough for adventure, small enough to fit comfortably into most homes. This handsome Australian Shepherd mix found himself at the shelter after his family went through a divorce and, heartbreakingly, no one could keep him. It’s a story shelter staff see too often: life changes for people can mean upheaval for pets.

The transition has been especially hard on Bear. Australian shepherds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and sensitivity, and Bear embodies all three. The shelter environment, with its constant chorus of barking dogs and unfamiliar faces, makes him nervous. He tends to be shy in his kennel, quietly observing the world around him and waiting for reassurance. But talk to those who knew him before, and a different picture emerges. According to his previous family, Bear is a well-mannered, affectionate compan-

ion who is good with other dogs, cats, and children. He is potty trained and accustomed to home life. Once he feels secure, his true personality shines: energetic, playful, and eager to engage.

Like many Australian shepherds, Bear is extremely active once he settles in. This breed thrives on physical exercise and mental stimulation. They are often stars in agility competitions, herding trials, and advanced obedience work. Bear may very well excel in agility, flyball, or any activity that lets him stretch his legs and use his sharp mind. If you’re a runner, hiker, or someone who enjoys long walks in the Florida sunshine, Bear could be your perfect partner.

He especially loves playing fetch and will need sturdy, durable toys that can keep up with his enthusiasm. A fenced yard where he can safely zoom and explore would be a dream come true. Even more important, though, is a family committed to including him in their daily lives—whether that means weekend adventures, training sessions, or simply relaxing together after a busy day.

Because of his sensitive nature, Bear would do best with patient adopters who understand that trust takes time. A calm introduction to his new home, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement will help him blossom. The reward? A fiercely loyal, intelligent dog who will bond deeply with his people and shower them with devotion.

Bear has already endured the confusion of losing his home. What he needs

now is stability, compassion, and someone willing to see the incredible dog he truly is.

Kitty (ID 713903): A Gentle Soul Seeking Security

While Bear’s world changed due to divorce, Kitty’s life shifted when his owner was deployed. Military deployments can be long and uncertain, and sometimes beloved pets must find new homes as a result. Kitty didn’t do anything wrong—he simply needs another cat lover to give him the stability and affection he deserves.

Kitty is looking for a somewhat quieter household. Younger children tend to startle him, and when he feels overwhelmed, he prefers to retreat to a safe hiding spot. For that reason, a home with older, respectful kids would be ideal. In the right environment, Kitty’s sweet personality truly shines.

He may also do well with a wellmannered dog who already knows that felines are friends, not foes. Slow, careful introductions are always key, but Kitty has the potential to adapt beautifully to a multi-pet home.

Once he settles in, don’t be surprised if Kitty becomes your little greeter. Shelter staff believe that in a comfortable setting, he may meet you at the door and rub against your legs in a warm, affectionate welcome. That gentle nudge and soft purr can turn even the most stressful day into something manageable.

And if you’re the kind of person who likes to spoil your cat with treats, Kitty is

fully on board. He isn’t picky and appreciates a good snack. Treat time could quickly become a bonding ritual between you and your new feline friend.

Like many cats adjusting to change, Kitty may need a bit of patience in the beginning. Providing cozy hiding spots, a consistent routine, and plenty of positive reinforcement will help him feel secure. In return, you’ll gain a devoted companion whose quiet affection speaks volumes.

Opening Your Heart—and Your Home

Both Bear and Kitty are reminders that pets don’t control the circumstances that bring them to shelters. Divorce. Deployment. Major life changes. Through it all, they remain ready to love again. When you adopt, you’re not just gaining a pet—you’re giving an animal a second chance. You’re transforming uncertainty into stability, anxiety into comfort, and loneliness into belonging.

Bear dreams of a yard to run in and a family to call his own. Kitty hopes for a calm home, a sunny window, and someone whose legs he can lovingly wind around at the end of the day.

Could that someone be you? Your next best friend might be waiting right now. To meet a pet at the Humane Society of Broward County, visit: www.humanebroward.com and complete the pre-adoption application. The shelter is

“Having the right knowledge of Generative AI allows you to makeshift an online store with images in several minutes. What scammers do is take a real store’s name, even pictures, and play the persuasion game. The thing is, if the next day you go pick up the jewelry, you would find yourself at a fake address or some random back alley.”

Unreliable Payment Methods

One thing that should immediately raise red flags if people are investing in precious metals is the way the seller is requesting payment.

Chances are, if the sellers do not accept credit cards, any bank involvement, this is a sign of a scam. A legitimate seller should not be against using traceable, secure payment methods that offer buyer protection.

“Wire transfers are irreversible or hard to trace. No legitimate seller would be against bank involvement. If they are, ver-

ify everything they are telling you, through official websites or sources,” notes Bourgi.

Bogus Investment Platforms

If someone decides to buy goldbacked tokens on an investment platform, it is crucial to check if it is real and credible. There have been instances where people invested large sums in gold through investment websites, which increased in value quickly. However, when trying to withdraw, mysterious taxes appeared, and funds got frozen.

“In this case, the money got into scammers’ pockets the second it left your bank. And this is money you won’t get back. It is pointless to pay the mysterious taxes, as your funds are locked inside a fake platform. If it is not a popular website, check reviews, check registration,” explains Bourgi.

Recovery Scams

There are cases when people get scammed twice. First, someone ends up buying fake precious metals and loses a considerable amount of money. Assuming

it was an expensive buy, scammers sell the buyer’s personal information.

When the buyer realizes there was a scam, a person claiming to be a lawyer or a government official reaches out and offers help.

“Never trust anyone who claims to be a government official or someone else whom you cannot verify from trusted sources. Especially if they ask you to make payments up front. You lost money when you both bought gold, it happens, but don’t make the same mistake twice,” says Bourgi. “Remember, no one will ask you for your bank details and important information through the phone. Check them online, call the bank, but do not trust anyone who asks for money or information.”

Protecting Sex Predators: The Sordid Reality Of The Global Power Elite

“No one, including the President of the United States, should be able to cover up crimes against children.”—James Talarico

Nearly 30 years after the first complaints were filed, the Epstein files remain a masterclass in how the ruling class shields its own.

We are long past the point for partisan excuses and institutional gaslighting.

The question is no longer whether Jeffrey Epstein—the hedge fund billionaire/convicted serial pedophile and sex trafficker—committed monstrous crimes against young girls, many of them children.

We know he did. What remains unresolved is something far more troubling.

We know that Epstein did not act alone.

A decision by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals allowing thousands of pages of Epstein-related documents to be unsealed referenced allegations involving “numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well-known Prime Minister, and other world leaders.”

That alone should have been enough to trigger full transparency.

Instead, nearly 30 years after the first complaints against Epstein were filed, the full truth remains obscured.

And that is the real scandal.

Because this was never simply about Epstein. It was about the system that made Epstein possible.

The Epstein files should have been a moral bright line—an issue so morally reprehensible and widely condemned as to cut through partisan politics.

Instead, it has become part of the three-ring circus that is governance in America today.

This is not a minor incident involving minor players, nor can it be confined to one political party or one political era.

This is about the darkness at the heart

of the American police state: a system built to shield the powerful from justice.

Epstein did not sidestep accountability because he was clever. He sidestepped accountability because he was protected.

Power protects power.

Epstein was aided, abetted and protected by a cross-section of political, corporate and societal classes here in the United States and abroad. He cultivated relationships across politics, finance, academia, entertainment, and global power circles. His social network spanned parties, ideologies, and continents.

While mere association is not tantamount to guilt, these associations speak volumes about how power operates according to its own rules.

As Representative Thomas Massie warned Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has been at the forefront of the Trump administration’s effort to slow-walk the release of the Epstein files: “This is bigger than Watergate. This goes over four administrations. You don’t have to go back to Biden. Let’s go back to Obama. Let’s go back to George Bush. This coverup spans decades, and you are responsible for this portion of it.”

If it looks like a cover-up, smells like a cover-up, and appears to benefit the same entrenched interests, we have every right—indeed, a civic and moral duty—to demand greater transparency.

For years, the Epstein case has stood as a grotesque emblem of the depravity within the global power elite: a sex trafficking ring operated not only for Epstein’s personal pleasure but also for that of his friends and business associates—billionaires, politicians, and celebrities.

If Epstein exposed the rot at the top, the broader landscape of child sex trafficking reveals how deep and systemic that rot truly runs.

The numbers alone are staggering.

Child sex trafficking—the buying and selling of women, young girls and boys for

sex, some as young as 9 years old—has become big business in America. It is one of the fastest growing criminal operations and the second most-lucrative commodity traded illegally after drugs and guns.

Adults purchase children for sex at least 2.5 million times a year in the United States.

It’s not just young girls who are vulnerable to these predators, either. Boys account for over a third of victims in the U.S. sex industry.

Who buys a child for sex?

Otherwise ordinary men from all walks of life. But then there are the so-called extraordinary men—like Epstein and his associates—with wealth, connections, and protection who are allowed to operate according to their own rules.

These men skate free of accountability because the criminal justice system panders to the powerful, the wealthy and the elite.

While Epstein’s alleged crimes are heinous enough on their own, he is part of a larger narrative of how a culture of entitlement becomes a cesspool and a breeding ground for despots and predators.

Nor is this culture of impunity confined to billionaires and political elites.

Across the country, law enforcement officers have been caught running sex trafficking rings, abusing women and girls in their custody, or exploiting their badge to coerce sex.

From Louisiana to Ohio to New York, officers have been arrested for trafficking underage girls, assaulting vulnerable women, and raping detainees—often shielded by unions, prosecutors, or a blue wall of silence.

This is how the system works, protecting the untouchables—not because they’re innocent, but because the system has made them immune.

And this is why this case was never just about one man.

As Piotr Smolar writes for Le Monde,

“Epstein was the most striking face of a two-tier system of justice, one that provided a privileged path for the powerful.”

We see this pattern everywhere.

Abuse of power—and the ambitionfueled hypocrisy and deliberate disregard for misconduct that make those abuses possible—works the same whether you’re talking about sex crimes, government corruption, or the rule of law.

Give any one person—or government agency—too much power and allow them to believe that they are entitled, untouchable and will not be held accountable for their actions, and those powers will be abused.

We can agree to disagree about many things, but America should have zero tolerance for child sex trafficking.

At some point, moral outrage must give way to moral clarity. The Trump administration’s cover-up is unacceptable. The selective redactions of non-victims’ names and faces are unacceptable. The removal of files by biased administration operatives is unacceptable. As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, a constitutional republic cannot survive a protected class.

If the Epstein files force us to think and act differently about anything, let it be this: the rule of law cannot be a one-sided weapon used against the powerless. It must require that the powerful be held just as accountable for their abuses as anyone else.

South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and changemakers will enjoy an evening filled with powerful moments, uplifting stories and a celebration of the generosity that has helped Voices rise.

Sderot Way In Hallandale Beach

I, along with our City Commission, had the great honor to host an event in memory of October 7th and recognizing our Sister City Sderot. Last year, I requested that our City make sure we memorialize the history of October 7th. On February 18th, Southeast 5th Street was renamed as Sderot Way in Honor of our Sister City. A marker was also placed in memorial of October 7th and the street renaming. History is so important. In this day and age many people simply move on and significant events are forgotten. Historically, the Holocaust has been denied. While it has not been forgotten many of the survivors have passed. They bore witness and we need to continue to tell their stories.

Entr’Acte Theatrix invites audiences to join them on the yellow brick road ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ when they present The Wizard of Oz at the William G. Skaff Center in West Palm Beach from running through March 14th.

“This is, to come out with it immediately, the most marvelous show.” – Jeremy Kingston, The Times

Based on the classic 1939 movie, this delightful theatrical version was tailored for the stage by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. It is a faithful adaptation of the film, recreating the dialogue and structure of the MGM classic nearly scene for scene. The production will feature the movie’s iconic score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. (Yip) Harburg, and all the tale’s beloved characters –Dorothy Gale, The Scarecrow, The Cowardly Lion, and The Tin Man, The Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good Witch, and many more.

“The timeless messages of love and friendship and searching for home are just as relevant today as they were in 1939, and in 1900 when Frank L. Baum penned this classic tale,” says Entr’Acte Theatrix Founder and Producer Vicki Halmos. It’s a fitting piece for the times, and for Entr’Acte… a classic musical, extremely entertaining, and very apropos for these times.”

“The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum brings out so many vivid memories and feelings for a lot of people,” says the production’s Director, Carlo Sabusap. “It’s one of those timeless classics that could only be best described by experiencing it, whether you watch the original 1939 film or see it on stage. I find it exciting to be helming such a memorable story because it’s something I feel that we can all relate to, that feeling of finding home, whether it be a place or a group of people who make you feel loved and appreciated.

“We’re doing some fun new things with the material, via the use of hand-crafted puppets and costumes, but doing our best to stay true to the classical feel that everyone has come to be familiar with,” he continues. “The cast and crew are both talented and brilliant, and I’m sure it’s going to be a great time for all, even if for a moment, going somewhere over the rainbow.”

Director Sabusap’s cast includes Daley Fosgate as Dorothy, Cherry Rivera as Almira Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West, Carley Graefe as Aunt Em/Glinda the Good Witch, Ace Gilliam as Hunk/ The Scarecrow, Greg Halmos as Hickory/The Tin Man, John Douglas as Zeke/The Cowardly Lion, Ennalls Berl as Professor Marvel/The Wizard of Oz, and Aaron Bravo as Uncle Henry/The Guard/and Others. The show’s ensemble cast includes Sarah Glass, Luis Acosta, Ophelia Kore, Carlo Sabusap, Nik Rosa, Mimi Anne Levenson, and Milo O’Connor.

The show’s Music Director is Aaliyah Amoin, and the Choreographer is Amber Lebrun. Elizabeth Southwell will serve as the production’s Lighting and Technical Director, and the Production Stage Manager is Jacob Quartell. Puppets by TCA – Carlo Sabusap, Milo O’Connor, and Sarah Elizabeth Kenny. Jason Fisher will handle Front of House duties.
