“AI can generate language, but it can’t guarantee that a will is valid, enforceable, or aligned with the realities of someone’s family situation.”

As Artificial Intelligence tools become increasingly embedded in everyday life, more Americans are turning to AI for tasks that were once considered too important to automate - including writing their wills. While the appeal is obvious, experts are now warning that the trend could leave families exposed to serious legal and financial consequences.

According to new survey data commissioned by Choice Mutual, a life insurance agency that specializes in final expense insurance, nearly half (46%) of Floridians say they would consider using AI to write their will, citing convenience, speed, and cost savings as the main motivations. But experts caution that what looks like a shortcut today could turn into a costly mistake tomorrow.

“Wills are not just documents – they are legal instruments that have to meet very specific state requirements,” says Anthony Martin, Founder of Choice Mutual. “AI can generate language, but it can’t guarantee that a will is valid, enforceable, or aligned with the realities of someone’s family situation.”

The Hidden Risks of AI-Generated Wills

AI platforms can produce polished-sounding documents in seconds, but estate law varies significantly from state to state. Requirements around witnesses, notarization, wording, and execution are precise - and even small errors can invalidate a will

changes affect their refunds or balances due. Credits related to dependents, education, and energy efficiency may also differ from prior years, and eligibility rules continue to evolve. Diego Figueiredo & Friends - A Masterclass In Connection

There’s something instantly striking about a Diego Figueiredo & Friends’ per formance. No dramatic entrance, no rigid staging — and four world-class musicians settling naturally into a series of Jazz Duets that will eventually reveal the heart of the night: Connection. As Diego Figueiredo leads, his curls catching the light, guitar resting easily in his hands, he plays with a fluidity so natural that bossa nova, jazz, and classical influences weave together as effortlessly as conversation. Within minutes, audiences find them selves leaning in, drawn by the sense that something genuine is unfolding in real time. Join us on Wednesday, February 4nd, 2026 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Figueiredo’s openness is a defining part of his artistry. A Grammy®-nominated guitarist praised by George Benson as “one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life,” he carries his technical brilliance with a sense of ease. There is no flash for its own sake — only clarity, warmth, and the instinct to listen as deeply as he plays. He has long been celebrated for making a single guitar sound like an entire musical landscape, yet his presence feels humble, inviting. For this Gold Coast Jazz presentation, Diego is joined by three trusted musical partners, each bringing a distinct voice

into the mix. Jazz flutist Nestor Torres shapes the air with lyricism; pianist Shelly Berg adds harmonic richness and intuitive responsiveness; and percussionist Sammy Figueroa provides texture, spark, and rhythmic lift. Together, they create an environment where ideas move freely — a phrase here and a rhythmic cue there. It’s a detail Gold Coast Jazz audiences will appreciate, as it signals the intimacy, spontaneity, and interplay that define their favorite performances.

Says Diego, “The Brazilian feeling is always in my right hand, no matter what

style I’m playing. In concert, when I’m free, I let jazz, bossa nova, and classical flow together.” In this setting where duets are interchanged, that blend can become more vivid. A warm bossa gesture might melt into a jazz-driven exchange; a clas sical turn may spark a new melodic direc tion. The genres don’t collide — they coexist, guided by instinct and shaped by Often seen as an informal ambassador of Brazilian music, Figueiredo brings mas tery and generosity, making the music feel shared rather than delivered. With his

friends beside him, the “duets” will become the engine of the evening — a space where listening leads, and connection drives every note. Diego Figueiredo & Friends reminds us that the most unforgettable music is created together.

Keller’s Korner - 2025 Boca Raton Bowl

Welcome to Keller’s Korner. Since 1986, I have been collecting memorabilia of famous Jewish people in sports, entertainment, politics, and other areas. That is why it was especially exciting to cover the December 23, 2025 Boca Raton Bowl between Louisville and Toledo — because I learned there were five Jewish individuals on the field representing those two teams. The game, played at Florida Atlantic University and shown on ESPN, was a thriller. Louisville edged Toledo 27–22 in one of the closest Boca Raton Bowls in recent memory. The atmosphere was electric, highlighted by Comedian Keegan-Michael Key firing up the crowd and Navy SEALs skydiving into the stadium. Louisville featured three Jewish players — including one from Davie, Florida — while Toledo had one Jewish player and a Jewish head coach.

Louisville’s Jewish Players

The Cardinals, representing the ACC, entered as favorites. Their starting quarterback, Miller Moss, has a Jewish father, Eric, whom he credits for inspiring his football journey. “My father was my first coach when I was just five or six years old,” Miller told me. A USC transfer, he added, “I hope to get in the NFL and I am excited for the draft.” His favorite NFL quarterback is Joe Burrow.

Miller grew up in California and shared, “We celebrated both Hanukkah and Christmas.” His mother Emily said, “I am so proud of him.” His father Eric added, “He is a hero in a time that needs heroes.” When I asked Miller about his parents, he said, “I am super grateful to them. I am super proud to be their son.”

Another standout is Shai Kochav, who lives in Davie, Florida and attended TRU Prep Academy in Miami Gardens. A 5-star long snapper recruited by LSU, Army, and other colleges, Shai possesses a rare skill set that should draw NFL attention.

“I will continue to train and hopefully make an NFL team,” Shai told me. His girlfriend Hannah added, “He is the hardest worker I know. He takes his work very seriously and is a great person and player.”

Shai’s parents, Mike and Pam Kochav, proudly wore their Kochav jerseys at the game. Pam also sported a button with her son’s photo and told me, “I am very proud of him.”

Standing 6’3”, Shai is not someone you want to mess with — he’s a third-degree black belt and a five-time Taekwondo world champion. Louisville also has Jewish punter Carter Schwartz, though I was told he was not at the game.

Toledo’s Jewish Representation

Toledo, which plays in the Mid-

American Conference, had one Jewish player and, notably, a Jewish head coach. Jason Candle served as head coach throughout the 2025 Season but accepted the UConn job shortly before the bowl game. As a result, Robert Weiner was elevated to head coach just three weeks before kickoff.

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Robert. Jewish college football coaches are rare — Jedd Fisch and Ryan Silverfield are among the few — but Robert is a rising star who had the Rockets prepared on short notice.

“Football coaching has been my love since 1989,” he told me. “I started at my alma mater, Jesuit High School, as an assistant coach. From there I was the head coach at Plant High School for 16 years. We won four Florida State titles and 14 district titles.”

Robert left Plant after the 2019 Season to join Toledo’s staff in 2020. Raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey before moving to Tampa, he joked, “I still have the cassette that had my Haftorah on it. I remember it was on December 10th.”

At the post-game press conference, the love his players have for him was obvious. Emotional at the table, he said, “There are no moral victories. It was the greatest privilege to be the head coach for the Boca Raton Bowl.” Robert will be coaching at another college in 2026.

I did not get a chance to speak with Tanner Rubinstein, but he is also a Jewish player for the Rockets.

Voices Around the Bowl

Doug Mosley, Executive Director of the Boca Raton Bowl since its inception in 2014, is a walking encyclopedia of the event. He told me, “We had the game on December 23rd so more children could attend as school is out.” He also noted that December 23rd is the anniversary of the very first Boca Raton Bowl, when Marshall defeated Northern Illinois.

Scott Singer, Mayor of Boca Raton since April 2018, said, “I have attended all 12 bowl games. This might be one of the best as it was a close game.” Fran Nachlas, the Deputy Mayor of Boca Raton, added, “I have attended the last three bowl games.” I love Fran’s enthusiasm, and she shared that she will be running for Boca Raton Mayor in 2026. I also enjoyed speaking with ESPN’s Evan Cohen, co-host of the early-morning show “Unsportsmanlike with Evan, Canty and Michelle.” Like Mayor Singer, Evan said, “I have been to all the Boca Raton Bowl games and love them all.” I encourage everyone to attend the Boca Raton Bowl in 2026.

One Crash Away From Financial Ruin

How To Protect Yourself from Auto Accident-Induced Financial Collapse

Driving is an essential part of life for many people, but without being properly insured, many drivers are often one accident away from financial collapse. While driving is often a necessary means of transportation for many people, the dangers it poses to financial stability and health should not be overlooked; car wrecks are the number one cause of injury and death among people ages 16-29, and the number three cause for those ages 30 and up. In the face of these facts, it is important to consider what the effects of being underinsured can have on a driver when they get into an accident, and how to guard against potential financial collapse.

A driver must possess a minimum amount of liability insurance, which can vary from state to state, to prove financial liability. It can be easy for drivers to underestimate the possible effects of even a minor vehicle accident without this, especially when the damage to the car seems minimal. But the damage to the car often does not correlate to the injury of the occupant any more than an egg carton to the egg; If an egg carton were to be tossed around, the carton may be unblemished, but that is surely no indication of the egg’s state within the carton. Additionally, when a doctor examines a patient post-accident, no videos, photos, or interviews by investigating officers are used in the Doctor’s medical decisions. Rather, doctors will utilize tests and physical examinations to guide their diagnosis. Depending on the number of tests or scans used, the average emergency room visit spans from $10,000 to over $20,000. If surgery is required, a person’s minimum insurance limit can be exhausted within the first few days of injury. It is not difficult to imagine that lifelong impairment or death can further expose drivers or injured parties to financial collapse. Ultimately, the risks of driving are present whether a person is the negligent

entirely.

“One of the biggest dangers is false confidence,” Martin explains. “People assume that because a document looks professional, it must be legally sound. Unfortunately, many of the most serious problems only surface after someone passes away, when it’s too late to correct them.”

Common risks associated with AI-written wills include:

• Invalid execution, such as missing witness signatures or improper formatting.

• Ambiguous language that creates room for disputes between heirs.

• Failure to account for state-specific inheritance laws.

• Overlooking complex family dynamics, including blended families or dependents with special needs.

In worst-case scenarios, an invalid or unclear will can push estates into probate court, delaying distributions and significantly increasing legal costs for surviving family members.

Survey Shows Growing Reliance on AI Choice Mutual’s survey of 1,500 adults highlights how quickly attitudes toward AI in legal planning are shifting, suggesting a

driver, or the injured party in an accident, amplifying the importance of having sufficient coverage. A potential protection to reduce the risk of personal exposure is to purchase umbrella coverage, which can be purchased as an endorsement from a person’s homeowner’s personal liability coverage. This protects against a driver’s potential future negligence and reduces the risk of a gap between the driver’s liability coverage and the injury extent of the victim at the time of negligence. To qualify for an umbrella policy to serve as excess in addition to auto liability coverage, the purchaser or insured is typically required to have the maximum amount of auto liability coverage. Umbrella insurance carriers will not attach an umbrella policy to a minimum auto liability policy, or to one that is less than the maximum coverage.

Another protection to reduce the risk of personal exposure is the fiduciary obligation that a carrier must settle the insured’s liability within the stated policy limits if it is reasonable to do so, which can further protect the insured from exposure. If an insurance carrier fails to do this it can trigger a cause of action by the insured against their carrier, which can

common belief it would be “good enough” for straightforward estates.

That perception concerns Martin.

“Even so-called ‘simple’ estates often aren’t simple at all,” he says. “Life insurance beneficiaries, digital assets, stepchildren, shared property, and debts all introduce complexity that generic AI tools aren’t designed to handle.”

The survey suggests that many Floridians may be underestimating the long-term consequences of errors in estate planning - especially when those errors are only discovered during moments of grief and emotional stress.

Why Mistakes Are Often Discovered Too Late

Unlike many financial or legal decisions, wills rarely get tested until the original author is no longer alive. This creates a unique risk profile, where mistakes can’t be clarified or corrected.

“When a will fails, families are left trying to interpret intentions without guidance,” Martin says. “That’s when disagreements arise, relationships fracture, and assets end up consumed by legal fees instead of going to loved ones.”

In some cases, courts may default to state intestacy laws, distributing assets in ways that directly contradict what the deceased intended.

Advice for Consumers Considering AI Tools

Martin is not urging Americans to avoid

then be assigned to the injured party to help guard against further exposure.

Furthermore, it is also important to guard against the risk of financial collapse when the negligent party has either insufficient or no liability coverage. Drivers can purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage for these situations. Most states require UM/UIM to protect the public from unpaid medical expenses and a loss in work and productivity when drivers fail to carry liability coverage. Auto insurance carriers must offer this coverage, for a premium fee, unless the insured rejects it in writing. Insurers cap UM/UIM coverage to equal whatever the amount of liability insurance was purchased. So, insurers will only extend UM/ UIM coverage above $30,000 if the liability coverage purchased is above that limit.

Another possibility is for the insured to purchase an endorsement that attaches their umbrella coverage to their UM/UIM coverage, which stacks and serves as excess applicable coverage for injuries which would exhaust the sum of both the negligent party’s coverage and the UM/ UIM.

Another protection against the risk of financial collapse in an accident is

technology altogether - but he stresses the importance of understanding its limitations.

“AI can be a helpful starting point for learning or organizing your thoughts,” he says. “But it shouldn’t replace professional review when it comes to estate planning.”

He recommends that anyone considering an AI-generated will:

• Treat AI output as a draft, not a final document.

• Verify state-specific legal requirements.

• Have documents reviewed by a qualified estate planning attorney.

• Revisit and update wills regularly as life circumstances change.

A Cautionary Moment for Estate Planning

As AI tools continue to evolve, experts say consumers must remain cautious about where automation ends and accountability begins.

“The cost savings people expect from AI can disappear instantly if a will fails,” Martin concludes. “Estate planning is about protecting the people you love. That’s not something you want resting on untested assumptions or automated guesswork.”

Personal Injury Protection (PIP).

Depending on the insurance carrier, PIP benefits can exceed $100,000 in coverage for a relatively affordable premium. Like no-fault insurance, PIP will cover an insured’s medical expenses and loss wages regardless of who is at fault. Similarly to UM/UIM, PIP is required for carriers to provide in most states unless the insured rejects it in writing.

In the end, while motor vehicle accidents pose a significant risk to drivers, the importance of reducing exposure and gaps in coverage is often an overlooked and under-explained topic. But through umbrella coverage for the at-fault party and UM/UIM or PIP for the injured party, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from potential financial disaster.

As Miami reemerges at the forefront of national conversations, the moment feels especially meaningful. “This is a story about power, fear, and the fight to be heard,” says Nicholas Griffin, journalist, author, and playwright whose work, including Dangerous Days, has long explored the forces that shape Miami. When Miami New Drama’s Artistic Director, Michel Hausmann, came to

Griffin, he was immediately attracted to the idea. “The debates at the heart of English Only are not relics of the past. They are the very conversations shaping Miami today,” says Michel Hausmann.

“The chance to illuminate a defining moment in Miami’s history, with all its tension and humanity, was impossible to pass up.” This production continues the Miami History series that Miami New Drama has undertaken in recent years, which brings pivotal moments from our community to the stage, including Elian, Dangerous Days, and Confessions of a Cocaine Cowboy. The remarkable cast bringing English Only to life on the Colony Theatre stage is led by Andhy Mendez as Manny Diaz; the ensemble also features Rene Granado, Stan Rogers, Carmen Pelaez, Lucy Alvarez, Linda Mugleston, Barbara Simmons, Laura Faye Smith, and Emmy Shafer, along with an outstanding supporting company. Together, this group of actors delivers depth and emotional clarity to Nicholas Griffin’s world premiere, creating performances that feel both intimate and urgently of the moment.

Behind the scenes, a powerhouse creative team guides every detail of the production. English Only is directed by Margot Bordelon with Karina BatchelorGomez serving as Assistant Director, and

written by playwright Nicholas Griffin, with Dramaturgy by Jocelyn Clarke. The visual and technical world is shaped by Lighting Designer Solomon Weisbard alongside Nathalie Sore and Shane Cassidy, Sound Designer and Composer Salomon Lerner, Costume Designer Beth Goldenberg, Wig designer Carol Raskin, Projections Engineer and Mapper Steve Covey, Props Designer and Supervisor Tyler Correa, and Scenic Designers Justin and Christopher Swader. Casting is by Kelly Gillespie, with Production Stage Management by Amy Rauchwerger and Gunilla Alvarez Munoz, and Overall Production Management by Sajari Hume.

This collaborative team comes together to create a bold, thoughtful, and resonant theatrical experience worthy of its world premiere, thereby marking a significant addition to The Colony Theatre’s commitment to presenting new works that illuminate the cultural forces shaping South Florida and the country at large.

Don’t Overlook Key Coverage Gaps, Start 2026 Right By Reviewing Your Insurance Policy

As families are getting settled in the new year, AAA experts suggest adding one crucial financial task to the top of the list: reviewing their insurance coverage. While health and savings goals are common priorities for 2026, ensuring that your home, auto and assets are adequately protected is a vital step toward long-term financial security.

“Many homeowners renew their policies automatically, overlooking how their lives and homes have changed over the past year,” said Mark Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “This ‘set it and forget it’ approach can create significant coverage gaps. A comprehensive insurance review ensures policy limits align with current needs and replacement costs.”

Key Moments When Homeowners

Should Revisit Their Coverage Home Additions or Renovations –Projects such as kitchen or bathroom upgrades, finishing a basement, replacing the roof, or installing a pool can significantly increase a home’s value. Policyholders should confirm that their dwelling coverage limits reflect these improvements. Recent roof replacements may qualify homeowners for lower premiums.

Life Changes That Affect Coverage –Major milestones can shift a household’s insurance needs, yet many families forget to update their policies accordingly. Changes such as marriage, divorce, teenage drivers, adult children moving out, or welcoming a new baby can influence liability considerations, personal property needs, and eligibility for certain discounts. Keeping household occupants accurate ensures the policy reflects the home’s current risk profile.

Acquiring High-Value Items – New valuables, such as watches, jewelry, fine art, electronics, photography equipment, firearms, musical instruments, silverware, or high-end furniture, may exceed standard

Working From Home – With remote and hybrid work becoming increasingly common, homeowners should consider coverage for their home office equipment. Standard policies typically cap reimbursement for business equipment at $2,500, which may not cover computers, monitors, routers, and other essential devices.

Upgrades That Lower Risk and May

Earn Discounts – Certain improvements not only protect the home but may also reduce insurance premiums.

These include:

• Updated plumbing or electrical systems

• Smoke detectors and fire alarms

• Security systems and smart home monitoring

• Water leak detection devices

• Other home protection technologies that reduce the likelihood or severity of losses

Ensuring Adequate Replacement Value

– Homeowners should verify that their dwelling coverage reflects the current cost to rebuild, not the original purchase price. Construction and labor costs continue to fluctuate, making it essential to confirm that coverage is sufficient to fully replace the home after a major loss.

Don’t Overlook Auto Coverage Just like homeowners’ policies, auto

“Changes such as buying a new vehicle, adding a teen driver, moving to a new neighborhood, or driving more (or less) than in previous years can all affect premiums and protection levels,” Jenkins said.

AAA recommends confirming that liability limits are adequate, optional coverages like uninsured motorist protection are up to date, and discounts for safe driving, good student discount for teens, telematics like AAADrive, or multi-vehicle households are being applied.

MLK Echoes Of The Past

This past weekend, cities across the country celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy who was sadly shot 58 years ago. The same year Robert Kennedy was shot and 5 years before in 1963, John F. Kennedy. This was an extremely dark period in our country’s history. All of these great men worked tirelessly towards justice and equality. Personally, I remember these assassinations.

When JFK was shot, I remember playing around with my sister who was in her play pen while my mother ironed shirts for my father and three brothers. While she was standing watching the old black and white TV, we could not afford color, I remember her standing and crying, watching the news.

When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot I was in third grade in school when our Principal Mr. Kusgee came in and told our teacher. Mrs. Hersh was a stern teacher and that was the first time I saw her cry. Once again, we walked home to find my mom and her friends around the TV watching Walter Cronkite and crying. The same thing happened when Robert Kennedy was shot. Our parents did not talk a lot about it, but my brothers did around the dinner table. I do remember vividly standing on the train bridge in Trenton watching the Robert J. Kennedy train pass. Hundreds of people stood weeping and waving to show solidarity.

These points in history, even as a young child, had a lasting impact on me as a young person. I did not attend a segregated school in Levittown. I know there were areas just like it in the south that were African American, but I was never exposed to racism and bigotry growing up. My best friend and neighbor were a Jewish boy, Andrew. I do not recall what his father’s profession was, but his mom was a hairdresser. I loved going to his house and watching her do hair. Where I grew up was drastically dif-

ferent to what children my own age experienced in South Florida.

When I moved to south Florida my eyes were open to a different reality. As recently as 1991 the confederate flag still flew on Young Circle. Thanks to Judge Ken Gottlieb who was a Hollywood Commissioner it was brought down. It was not unusual to see blatant signs of the hate of the past that I thought would certainly be gone.

This truly made me question whether I wanted my children to grow up around such hatred. While we are seeing a doubling of antisemitic acts of aggression on Jewish houses of worship, Jewish businesses, and multiple killings of Jewish people simply for being Jewish. We need to be reminded that it is up to every one of us to stand up. These acts are not just the KKK or Alt right from days past we are seeing them from Americans that simply have been indoctrinated with misinformation and simply do not understand history. We are blessed to have a great city. There have been incidents of antis-

emitism such as graffiti and incidents involving harassment of one of our Rabbis. Our City Commission and our Police Department have a firm commitment to stand up against these acts. It is up to us all now to stand up. If you see something, say something. If you read something online, correct it.

My biggest call out is the land of Israel was Judea before it was taken over. It was taken over and then called Palestine. Jews have and should always have the right to their land. The other is antizionist. These means anti Jew plain and simple. Zion was the age-old name for Jerusalem and Israel. There is a famous quote from Yusuf Diya al-Khalidi “Who can challenge the rights of the Jews in Palestine? Good lord, historically it really is your country.”

In 1899 the Arab ottomans had invaded and taken over Israel and he was the “Mayor of occupied Jerusalem.” This was before the British came in to occupy Israel. It was not until the Israeli Independence War.

Just like the history of the Rights Movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King,

Jr. the fight of the Indigenous people of Israel to live in their country, history matters. The correlation between the fight for African American freedom and equality and the shared Judeo-Christian values is a unique bond. Now more than ever it is critical that we continue to unite against hatred.

The Neo Nazis, Skinheads, Alt Right and White Supremacists have now partnered with those of the extreme left. We need to not be the quiet majority but the vocal majority for peace, unity, and love. Only love can conquer hate.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
