ABOUT THE PROGRAM Super Safari is a play-based recreation program designed to provide children their first experience in a structured environment. The program runs September through early May and follows the Sunnyvale School District holiday schedule. The goal is to encourage children’s imaginations and creativities through a play-based learning environment. Experienced staff members lead a variety of hands-on activities such as art, language, storytelling, math readiness, circle time and music movement. Children must be toilet trained by first day of class.

Pottery – Parent and Child
Spring is in the air. Young chefs learn the necessary tools to sharpen their culinary and life skills. New recipes are always introduced so classes are always exploring new delights. Past recipes include lemon grass meatballs with coconut rice, Thai chicken lettuce wraps, and caramelized onion and mushroom risotto. Junior chefs will be in a world of culinary discovery highlighting nutrition, seasonal favorites, while developing knife skills and understanding core ingredients.
Share a creative experience in clay. Working together, parents and children learn to hand-build projects out of clay and glaze them using low-fire glazes (wheelthrowing and high-fire glazing are not included). Clay, glazes, and firing are included with class registration. Parent may accompany more than one child. No unregistered siblings are permitted in the studio. Price is per child. A fun, fast-paced five per side soccer game, futsal is played indoors within the lines of a basketball court (no walls), using a small, size three ball with low-bounce. Play fun, educational games that focus on increasing balance, coordination and fundamental futsal skills. Creative, fun activities are used to foster cooperation in a group setting and build self-esteem in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Open Pottery Studio
Beginner Ballroom Dance
Work independently on your projects and enjoy the company of fellow intermediate and advanced potters in our spacious, fully equipped studio. No instruction is provided, but our master pottery kiln techs can provide technical assistance with equipment and firing advice. Purchase a one-time or multiple session pass in the studio or at the registration desk. Passes expire at the end of the 12-week term in which they were purchased. A pass is required for all studio work including trimming and quick glazing. Pass price includes glazing and firing. Clay must be purchased in the studio ($31 per 25–pound bag). Modern Line Dancing Have fun, meet new friends and dance to popular music while learning various styles of dance. No partner is needed. Tai Chi Chuan Exercise your body and mind with the slow motion, continuous movements of this traditional Chinese martial art. This is a mixed level class. The first and second parts of each class focus on stretching, fundamental stance drills and form movement combinations. Students are then split into small groups. Beginners work on eight- and 28-form short routines. Intermediate/advanced students learn more challenging techniques including authentic Yang Style 85-form long routine, form application, push hands and traditional sword and saber.

Lifeguard Training Blended Learning Certification This blended learning class allows for participants to learn at home and in-class. Receive all the required trainings to become a certified lifeguard including lifesaving skills and techniques, first aid and CPR for professional rescuer. Pickleball A fun paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong has arrived in Sunnyvale. The game is played on a badmintonsized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Terry Myers, Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Class A Member A PGA Class A member since 1992, Terry has given over 40,000 lessons during his teaching career. Terry recently worked at Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club, Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland and Almaden Country Club. He has authored a book titled, Take Control of Your Game (1999), a learning guide for simple and consistent golf. Terry still plays competitively in the Northern California PGA Club Professional tournaments.

PICKLEBALL Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in America. A fun paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. How Do I Request a Refund/Transfer?
Registration Opens Dec. 2, 2019 (begins online at 12:01 a.m.)
• Refunds may be requested by phone (408-730-7350), fax (408-730-7754), or in person at the Recreation Center. If submitting via fax or in person, be prepared to present a receipt. If submitting by phone, be prepared to share info from your receipt. Receipts can be printed online.

• Refunds will be issued in the form of a check, credit card or coupon, depending on the original method of payment. Cash payments will be refunded by check.

Participants must be that age by class start date. • Registration is accepted (space permitting) until the second class meeting unless otherwise noted. • For golf, tennis or Sunnyvale Swim Complex registration, see pages 57 – 61
Waiting Lists • A waiting list is established if a program is full. • If a space becomes available, staff will notify adult participant or parent/guardian by telephone.
Missed Classes If a class meeting is cancelled by the City, staff will make every effort to notify you as soon as possible by phone or email. Staff will let you know if there is a make-up class or credit will be issued. Please make sure your contact information is current so we can reach you. The City does not offer make-up classes or issue credits when individual customers miss a class for illness or other personal reasons.
• Payment is not charged until an opening becomes available.
Non-Participants
• If you are paying for multiple classes with one check and one or more classes are full, a refund check will be mailed within approximately four weeks.
The City of Sunnyvale does not allow unregistered individuals in the program space, except when family and friends are invited to attend youth performances or demonstrations.
• Mail-in registrations that are received after program is full are automatically placed on the waiting list. Checks sent with mail-in registrations will be returned if space does not become available.

Cancellation Policy • Programs may be canceled when the minimum enrollment is not met. Please register early. • If a program is canceled, participants are notified by phone and given the option to transfer to another class or receive a full refund. Please note refunds take up to four weeks to process. • See refund/transfer policy for additional information.
Refund/Transfer Policy
Fee Waiver Assistance: Eligible Sunnyvale residents may apply to offset the expense of class registration fees up to $234 for youth (ages 17 and under) per eligible family member, per funding cycle. Fee Waiver Assistance Program resources are limited and subject to the availability of funds. Subsidized Program: If preapproved, families can pay a subsidized rate on select programs.
• A $10 processing fee per transaction applies for all refunds. A $5 processing fee per transaction applies for all transfers.
To apply: Fee Waiver Applications are available at the Columbia Neighborhood Center, the Sunnyvale Community Center or online at Sunnyvale.ca.gov. Please allow two to four weeks for a response to your application. Any funds not used are forfeited and cannot be carried over to the next funding cycle nor used for another child. See chart below for deadlines.

Why it’s important? EVERYONE COUNTS. The census counts every person living in the U.S. once, only once and in the right place. Completing the census is mandatory; it’s a way to participate in our democracy and say “I COUNT!” IT’S ABOUT FAIR REPRESENTATION. Census results are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets. IT’S ABOUT $675 BILLION. The distribution of $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities based on census data.
CENSUS DATA ARE BEING USED ALL AROUND YOU. City of Sunnyvale uses the census for public safety and emergency preparedness. Businesses use census data to decide where to build factories, offices and stores, which create jobs. Real estate developers use the census to build new homes and revitalize old neighborhoods. YOUR PRIVACY IS PROTECTED. It’s against the law for the Census Bureau to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share your answers with any other government agency.
