Youth takeover! Meet young musos Tye Belcher, Emmy Greaves, Sciennaj Belcher, Charlie Downard and Ayla Mears. They are Technical Difficulties – one of eight emerging bands and solo performers from across the Western Bay that will bring Tauranga’s waterfront to life for youth this Sunday, May 17, from 1pm-4pm. This is the Ōtūmoetai College students
second year performing at YouthFest – and they are pumped! They say it’s a big opportunity them, as emerging young artists, to perform to a public audience in a stress-free, no-pressure environment. “Everybody there understands that you’re all kids and you’re learning and that you’re here to play for them,” said Sciennaj, the band’s lead singer. “For me I think Youth
Fest is a really amazing opportunity for people my age to get up and have a chance to perform for others…” Beyond the music, attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere with food trucks, a photo booth, face painting and interactive stalls from more than 20 community organisations. The event, supported by Tauranga Western
Bay Community Event Fund, One NZ, Ara Taiohi and Tauranga City Council, is free to attend and open to all ages, with a strong focus on the 13-24 age group. Organisers encouraged families, friends and the wider community to go along and support the next generation of Tauranga talent. Read more on page 25. Photo / Kelly O’Hara
