Sharp shooter He took up clay target shooting aged 10. Now 17, he’s just become the best in the world; the youngest ever world champion. James Sullivan of Te Puke set his sights on winning the junior competition at Morpeth, Northumberland last week.

And he stunned the target shooting world by seeing off the world’s best and winning the overall competition to become world clay target shooting champion. He did little else but practise leading up to the world championships. And he

was in the zone throughout. “I kept calm and cool and ‘parked the bus’,” the young champ tells The Weekend Sun. And all around him were tears of joy. “It was a massive thing.” James, who lives on an orchard with his

family at Paengaroa, is now back home, “not doing much” and pondering his future as a world champion. Today James talks about his journey to the top. Read his story on page 10. Photo: John Borren.
